If he can’t have her, he’ll take the next best thing.
Zooey Taylor learns that her mother’s past is coming for her, marring her already-battered mental state to oblivion. The possibility that Seth could send people to harm her sets her on a path of self-destruction.
Zooey puts her trust in her best friend, Brian Riggs—a mistake that allows room for Seth’s claws to grasp her.
Nicolette is a Bay Area author of alluring romances that span from dark contemporary to the depths of the apocalypse. Outside of the all-consuming obsession to write, she is in love with being a full-service editor. She taught the fourth grade for five years, and is now a part-time substitute. During downtime, she enjoys knitting and crocheting while watching video game playthroughs with her hubby and fur baby.
Such a page turner! The struggles that the protagonist, Zooey, has to go through in the shadow of her mother’s kidnapping and the ever present threat of her kidnapper’s retaliation kept me hooked. The complexity of Zooey with dichotomy between her anxiety and strength made her realistic and relatable and caused me to root for her throughout the book.
So happy to see Jake and Alice from Many Punctured Wings! And of course, I loved Zooey's story. I couldn't get enough of it. And Bryan Riggs? Oh. My. God. Loved him. Is it possible to love him more than Jake?
Nicolette Beebe is my all-time favorite second chance romance author! If you haven't read her books yet, you need to. You won't be disappointed!
I wish I could give this more than 5 stars. The Thin Skin series is definitely so far my favorite series from Nicolette. I've been waiting so long for this sequel and it only took me days to finish. It was fast paced but each page was engaging.
First thing, seeing Jake and Alice again just reignited my love for the first book. I loved the mystery and romance too. There were a lot of tears shed, heart beating moments, cheers and screams.
Thin Skin is definitely a romance duology you don't want to miss. I encourage you to pick this up and dive into the romance of not just Zooey and Bryan but Alice and Jake. ❤️
I don’t think I’ve read a book as quickly as I did with Few Working Minds. With each novel she releases, Nicolette Beebe captures our hearts and souls with her beautiful characters, and I find myself reading well into the night because I can’t put her stories down.
I thought I loved Jake Taylor from Many Punctured Wings, but then here comes Bryan Riggs to sweep us off our feet! I couldn’t get enough of him!
In this second story of the Thin Skin series, the storytelling is top-notch and pulls at our heartstrings in the best of ways. In true Nicolette fashion, this story had me invested from the first word to the last period, and I instantly wanted to re-read it.
For all the contemporary readers out there, you need to add this five-star author to your one-click list because you don’t want to miss anything Nicolette Beebe releases. Trust me. You’ll find your new favorite author!
Is it possible to love Jake and Alice even more in this novel? Let alone their daughter, Zooey and her love interest, Bryan. From what I remember reading in Many Punctured Wings, it seems that old wounds and fears are still well and alive in Few Working Minds. Especially with how it affects Zooey throughout the book.
The breakdown of her mind and inner fears are apparent as she struggles to hold on. And when her parents finally tell her the truth about Seth, something snaps in her.
One thing I appreciated about this book was how it was consistent with Alice and the trauma she faced with Seth in the first book. How even now, with her own daughter, she's still facing those five years from the past, the scars running deep.
Jake, just like he was in the first book, is fiercely protective of his family, and that was true by the end of the novel where even I was just like, yeah! Wait, you really did that? I guess you really do love your family, man.
Bryan, Zooey's love interest, reminded me so much of Jake when he first met Alice. It's clear that Bryan cares for Zooey, and never really stops throughout the novel. Do I like him more than Jake? Perhaps. Perhaps not.
All in all, I believe that this was a wonderful end to this duology--things were cleared up, hearts were healed, and families reconnected and safe. All I have to say now is, well done, Nicolette. Well done in writing yet another wonderful duology I'll go back to time and time again. :)
Oh. My. Gosh! A day and a half and I devoured this book! I don’t want to give anything away. So I’ll just say that I think Zooey and Bryan are my two new favorite fictional people. Thanks to Nicolette she has awaken my love for reading. This is a must read! I am so excited to read more of her books.
I actually liked this story better than the first, but I had some major issues with this. This is the kid’s book, not a part 2, in case you were like me and didn’t read the synopsis.
Same third person, past tense. Same juvenile prose, like a middle school diary. Also, for most of the book she’s 17. I didn’t like that. I don’t want to read about minors.
My other real big issue was the ending. It didn’t feel wrapped up. Like I guess they sail off into the sunset together? I guess it’s an HEA? I don’t know.
