Monsters & Sunshine: The Lytle Creek Brotherhood

Rate this book
The last thing Scarlett needed was a distraction. She was in the process of healing from an abusive relationship when she serendipitously met Callan, the cocky, smirking trainer at her self-defense gym, who also happens to be the President of The Lytle Creek Brotherhood Motorcycle Crew.

There is an undeniable connection between the two, but there is someone in Scarlett’s life who is taking a stand against that connection. A dangerous stand. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes and a dark knight coming in to save what is his, this steamy, love story is a whirlwind of two broken people who fit each other like puzzle pieces: perfectly.

Warning: This book contains several moments based on the inhumane aspects of life. This book isn’t for everyone.

We first meet Scarlett Black at a horrible moment in her life: on the floor, being yelled at and pummeled by her abusive boyfriend. Vowing to never let that happen again, she gets the locks changed, dumps his crap outside the apartment and, at her uncle's advice, signs up for self-defense classes.

When Callan McNamara, President of The Lytle Creek Brotherhood motorcycle club, tells his employee that he'll find a trainer for his niece, he didn't think he'd end teaching her himself. She's hurt and afraid but has her head held high and she brings sunshine wherever she goes.

He wasn't expecting to be so drawn to her. She wasn't expecting to get involved with a "bad boy", but life never goes as planned anyway. So, when danger comes to brotherhood and touches Scarlett, he will do anything to protect her. ANYTHING.

I am not a fan of motorcycle club books because they tend to portray women in a way I just can't stand. Although this book acknowledges this attitude towards women, it was a breath of fresh air in that regard.

This is B. Ryan's debut novel and let me just say it's a kickstart of a great career. She gets you invested in these characters and now she made me want to know all about a certain "deranged enforcer". What did you do to me?! lol A fun read, but not for the faint of heart.

Possible triggers: domestic abuse, violent acts on page, kidnapping, torture, mentions of drug use, parental neglect, criminal activities

Monsters & Sunshine is B.Ryan's debut novel. It follows the MFC Scarlett who has gone through some horrific events(check out the triggers) that leads her to Callan.

I've never read an motorcycle club romance before but I'm so glad I got to read this ARC. It's dark, dirty and gritty.
I enjoyed everything in this story. We all need our own Callan.
It was fantastically written, the abuse felt real and it was dealt with perfectly. I liked that we got the memories from Callan too as his help set up his background.

Recommend everyone to read but it's definitely for 18+ and check the triggers out first.

Thank you B.Ryan for letting me read your debut novel

Lytle Creek Brotherhood Book 1

Dark Romance - 300 Pages

This was my first MC book and I loved it. It was dark, gritty, and yet it was bright, and sweet. I went through so many emotions. I had to force myself to set this book down or I wouldn't get any sleep.

I absolutely LOVED this book. I cannot wait for book two to come out.

This book begins with Scarlett living through a horrific ordeal (check triggers, y'all). She begins training with Callan, the Prez of the Lytle Creek Brotherhood MC. Sparks fly, but someone from Scarlett's past just won't seem to go away. What a beautiful story of personal transformation, love, and acceptance of our darkest parts. I loved the female friendships in the book and want to know more about their stories. If you love motorcycle club romance, then definitely add this one to your list!

What soul? We love the darkness

Monsters and Sunshine is a first book in The Lytle Creek Brotherhood. It’s an emotional rollercoaster ride. This follows the odyssey of Scarlett, she had a poignant past and has been in a toxic relationship. Their relationship couldn’t get off on the right foot and William gave her cold shoulders. Now meet Callan, the cocky, smirking trainer at her self-defense gym, who also happens to be the President of The Lytle Creek Brotherhood Motorcycle Crew. He is everything a woman desires. They both cross each other’s path and their love ignites like a magnetic attraction and they both form an unfathomable bond. But her past keep coming back to her . Will Scarlett go back a long way or get out of toxic relationship? And give love another chance?

The ending was so unexpected. I loved all the characters including, Jackson, Athena, Rocks, Callan and Kelsey. Also I loved the Callan’s grandmother. It was an odyssey of love, tragedy, getting out of toxic relationship, healing and finding love again.

PS: BOOK COMES OUT TODAY! SEPTEMBER 1ST 2022!

This was an absolute roller coaster of emotions, it was so dark, and so sweet? But absolutely enjoyable.

Of course, I recommend that you check the warnings before reading this book, there is certain abuse and violence involved, but if you are above 18 read this book, and enjoy it, and then come thank me.

It was very well written, and it was set as a motorcycle club dark romance, with a main character who goes through a difficult ordeal, and then meets our dream guy, Callan, and then her past catches up to her.

Everything about this book was enjoyable, apart from the fact that I had to literally put it down to process what I was feeling, it was very well written, the characters had amazing depth, and it had a very aesthetically pleasing dark eeriness to it.

I definitely want to thank the author for sending me the book prior to the publishing, in exchange for an honest review, lots of love.

I want to be Scarlet. I want the love she has with her big, bad biker. I want to be the Sunshine to his Monster.

But since I can't, I will go on re-reading this book. B.Ryan is a great story teller, the emotions jumping off the page. And the slow buildup of Scarlet and Callan are amazing.

In love, it’s always the little things that seem to matter, and it’s those little things in the story that make you love these two so much more. Callan might be a biker to the hardcore degree, but it’s so sweet to see that side fall just a little when his Sunshine around.

If you are looking for a book that makes you feel love, passion, awe, and anger, trust me, this gives it all to you....and then some!

"You have shattered your way into my heart that I otherwise thought no longer existed. You tame the monsters that live inside me."

"His kiss reaches depths of my soul I never knew were there, all I need of his love and possession."

"No matter what, I will always be the light to your darkness, the light at the end of the tunnel. I love you, Callan, Mr President, coach, my king."

⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was and enjoyable MC story. It had a good plot. It was entertaining enough to keep me interested. I liked the character development. Scarlet and Callan were a wonderful couple. I do wish the side characters had some more showtime.

I loved the plot for this! Combine and gym romance with an mc club? Call me a happy girl! Scarlett deserves every bit of happiness that comes her way.

My only con is I felt like I was being told the story and not really living it.

Now onto the review itself. First let me start by saying that everyone needs friends like Jack, Kelsey and Athina in their life. They were there for Scarlett in a matter of minutes after the whole thing happened (I don't wanna say too much because I don't want to ruin the book for you).

Also, this book really made me wanna be an Old Lady for a President of Motorcycle Crew, minus the crime that is. Callan is a dream, even tho very dangerous he also has a soft side that comes out when he is around Scarlett. That man feels like pure sex and is sooo good at it.

Other thing I really loved is Vic's choice of music. Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin are my faves. Any man who likes them has good taste in my opinion.

And also (that is a lot of also's but I have a lot to say you can't blame me), I wanna unalive William myself. He is the lowest of the low scumbags.

Overall, I recommend this book to anyone in need of a fun MC romance read, because this book has it all: sexy times, amazing friendship vibes, girl power and so much more.

Monsters & Sunshine is a fabulous debut novel by B. Ryan!

The story starts out with our FMC, Scarlett, experiencing some trauma, so I would suggest checking out the tigger warnings before you dive in. That being said, this is a wonderful book of showing how you can overcome the worst that life throws at you and gain something beautiful out of it.

Callan is a beautifully broken and hardened MC prez that isn't afraid to show his strengths. He takes out anything that gets in his way and isn't afraid of taking what he wants. And what he wants is Scarlett.

I can't wait to read more from this series!

A very good story. I loved every minute of it. I was hooked from the beginning. It starts with a difficult subject: domestic abuse, and it describes the process of victim blaming, self-blaming very well. Scarlett and Callan have their own baggage, their're far from perfect, but that makes them loveable. The style is excellent, I recommend it to anyone who likes MC stories. I was especially pleased that the musiclist wasn't collected at the beginning or the end, but brilliantly wowen into the story.

Thank you to author B. Ryan for the advanced reading copy of Monsters and Sunshine, receipt of which does not impact my review.

Monsters and Sunshine is B. Ryan’s debut novel and it is a hot motorcycle club romance! After leaving a disastrous, abusive relationship, Scarlett turns to family. Part of her plan to get stronger - inside and out - involves training at a local gym. When her usual trainer isn’t available, Callan steps in.

Callan is president of the Lytle Creek Brotherhood and doesn’t usually do personal training. However, he makes an exception for beautiful Scarlett due to her past. The more time they spend together, the harder it is to deny their attraction.

I enjoyed this debut novel and Scarlett and Callan’s relationship. They were definitely good together, even when they resisted their feelings! Not for the faint at heart, it definitely dives into some of the dicier and illegal workings of the LCB. It has been awhile since I’ve read a MC romance, and this one did not disappoint. It’s open door romance and definitely spicy!

From the intense beginning to the never dull center and it’s kinetic ending, this book was unpredictable in the best ways. I’m not really one who reads “steamy books” but this was a good one regardless of the “type of book” that it is. Competent writing, skillful pacing of someone who knows how to “leave out the parts people skip” as Elmore Leonard once said, succinct & definitely not dull, I think it’s a great book, if this is number one in a series- I can’t imagine where else it would go, but wherever it takes us, I’ll go along.
Be proud of this book.

Wow! I was not expecting this. I loved this story. Callan and Scarlett truly complemented each other. My only issue would be the errors and misusage of words. Nothing a good proofread couldn’t fix. I will definitely be on the lookout for more from this author.

I wanted to love this, I really did. But, honestly, I almost DNF'd it several times.

Pros:
The overall premise is pretty great, I really enjoyed the story overall.

Cons:
The entire thing was greatly lacking in detail. I don't remember what either MC looked like. Even the bedroom scenes felt flat. And because of the lack of detail, the emotion didn't pull me in. I really didn't care what happened to either of the MCs. So, working my way through the story was painful in several places.

There was a lot of telling versus showing. Like entire chapters or two of them explaining what happened over a span of a week or a month. This was similar in the conversations as well. They felt forced and were frequently huge blocks which made them insincere. Side note of the conversations: Kelsey was just awful. She served no purpose and everything she said was so obscure.

The tattoo scene is completely unrealistic. 16 hours in the chair isn't even possible in one location. It's not about pain tolerance. The skin isn't able to accept ink nor is the artist ever able to see the detail. I've seen entire back tattoos done and at most a 5 hour session is reached, but occasionally 3 hours was all that was possible.

The final confusion was the "monster" within him. At first, it's described as a mask he puts in place to effectively be the president of the motorcycle club which makes sense. However, near the end, he and she both describe it as it was coming forward when they would get intimate which felt unrealistic.

Overall, I'd recommend but go in with the above expectations. If none of that bothers you, then have at it and I hope you enjoy it. I don't plan on reading further books in the series.

Storyline and premise were good, and held my interest. The editing left much to be desired. No one in a MC is going to say “I am” instead of “I’m.” Too much proper English to be believable. Commas used instead of semicolons. A little more crazy from the crazy would help the story meld more. Author is well on her way to becoming a great writer.

Not bad

Fallen is definitely the sexy strong male that makes this story. I didn't enjoy Scarlett as much however. The story was good, a so!I'd ready but not great. AI would put this as a good vacation read but not a book that will stick with me over time. If your looking for a great escape pick this one up.
