Readers' Favorite rating: ★★★★★ Alex Andre has written a thought-provoking book with Lost and Book 1 of the E Apocrypha. The elements of technology and religion echo today's society. And if it did come to that, it would, unfortunately, be easy to imagine people acting the way they do in this book. The story moved at a good pace and kept my interest throughout. The descriptions of the world and how it looks after the events of the apocalypse are both imaginative and chilling . Knowing how much we rely on technology, if it were to be taken away, things could look very bleak. Yun-mi is a great character . ... I would definitely recommend it.
Alex has lived on three continents, is fluent in three languages, and never has enough time to get to all the books on his ever-growing To Be Read list. He has always appreciated select authors’ ability to string words into elegant sentences and tie those sentences into intricate plots. The E Apocrypha series is the result of him trying his own hand in the craft.
I love apocalyptic and dystopian novels, so when Alex Andre offered me his books, I jumped at the chance. We start out with Lost & Found and move on to Book II, As & When. Catchy titles, right?
Yun-Mi is a teenage scavenger. Her desire is to be the best Rat. It’s an appropriate name for their group, seeing they live underground. She is immediately put in danger and I am eager to watch her grow into her adult self. The things she will go through can make any apocalyptic/dystopian lover like me cringe and shiver.
As the story unfolds, visions of The Walking Dead run through my mind. I love when I can picture the characters as the story unravels, drawing me into the world Alex Andre created. Isn’t it a common theme, using religion to manipulate and control the underlings.
I felt deep sorrow, right along with the character, at 88%. My eyes teared up and I tried to hide it from hubby. That is how powerful the end of the book is, and I have a feeling Book II, As & When, is going to be even better. I am now familiar with all the characters and the group dynamics. The details often make a book drag, but they are important to the story, so I must go through them to get to the good stuff.
I love an author that creates powerful female protagonists and able to kill off a character or two, or three, or…when necessary.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Lost & Found be Alex Andre.
Absolutely love the style of writing from the different POVs of each character. They’re all so unique and different from one another, it’s cool to watch each one of them develop throughout the book. Beautiful twists and turns, overall highly recommend if dystopian fiction is your cup of tea!

The descriptions of the world and how it looks after the events of the apocalypse are both imaginative and chilling. Knowing how much we rely on technology, if it were to be taken away, things could look very bleak. Yun-mi is a great character. She is tough and determined and faces a lot of challenges, but she is fighting for her life and will do anything to live. I think this would appeal to dystopian fans and probably science fiction fans too. I would definitely recommend it.
Lost & Found: Book 1 of the E Apocrypha by Alex Andre is a dystopian adventure set in a future where technology has been obliterated by a fanatical movement known as E Apocrypha. This apocalyptic reset has left society scrambling to survive amid the ruins. With an intriguing cast of characters, each grappling with their role in this fractured world, Andre crafts a compelling tale of survival, resistance, and ambition.
The novel centers around Yun-mi, a determined young "Rat" — a scavenger who has spent two years honing her skills in the hope of becoming one of the finest scavengers in her city. When her mentor is murdered, Yun-mi finds herself on the verge of being sold to slavers, and her dream is shattered. Yet she’s fierce and resilient, refusing to give up. With both wit and grit, Yun-mi embarks on a journey that not only puts her survival skills to the test but also awakens a fierce desire for revenge within her.
Supporting Yun-mi is a diverse ensemble of characters, each with unique motivations and backgrounds. Buck, who possesses precognitive abilities and a mechanical intuition, grew up sheltered in a religious enclave, wrestling with an inherited sense of fear and obligation. Rajan, a slave bound to haul train cars under backbreaking conditions, yearns for purpose, dreaming of a life beyond servitude. Ka Ya and Wai Lam, revered as "golden dragons," aim to restore the integration of machines into society, symbolizing the remaining hope for technological rebirth. Meanwhile, Janet, a scholarly character, searches for a hidden cache of knowledge that could change the fate of their world. Andre gives each character a distinctive voice and perspective, making it easy to follow their individual storylines.
Andre’s world-building is immersive and richly textured, painting a bleak picture of a civilization fallen into ruin. The remains of ancient cities teem with “Rats” scavenging for remnants of technology to trade, offering a thought-provoking look at what society could devolve into if technology vanished overnight. The vivid, often chilling descriptions of this post-apocalyptic landscape remind readers of our deep dependence on technology and pose unsettling questions about how humanity might respond if that lifeline were severed.
The pacing is swift, with each chapter propelling the story forward, though the multiplicity of characters and factions occasionally makes the plot challenging to follow. The motives of certain groups are not always entirely clear, but this mystery adds to the intrigue, making the reader wonder who they can trust as the power dynamics shift. The intertwined plotlines and character arcs ultimately come together, revealing a deeper connection among the protagonists and creating anticipation for future installments in the series.
Despite some narrative complexity, Lost & Found is a gripping and thought-provoking adventure that will captivate fans of dystopian fiction.
Long after the “E” rendered machines inoperable, society has changed. Within the remains of cities, people who refer to themselves as “Rats,” search for usable items to trade or sell, though with as much time that has passed, little seems to remain. Park Yun-Mi is a young “Rat” who believes she is meant for great things. But her beginning is a rough one, leaving her with a great deal to prove to herself as well as others.
I received a review copy of this book, and while I did enjoy it, I do need to mention that it is over 500 pages long and contains an attempted rape. The characters are interesting, but there is a great deal of necessary set up to the story before it becomes really clear what the story is about. Because of all the necessary setup to this story, and also likely due in part to the length, it feels like the plot moves somewhat slowly, though that may in part be an illusion due to it being a longer than usual book. (I expect that book two in this series will go much faster now that we have the history and background information already, and yes, I would be interested in reading book 2 in this series at some point.)
I will say that for longer than I expected, I was trying to figure out where the story was going, but even when not yet realizing what the story was supposed to be about, I was still enjoying it. It’s not often that I read something that keeps me guessing for so long. I enjoyed reading this book.
I think anyone who enjoys post apocalyptic stories that involve a variety of people, cultures, and societies. Will enjoy this book. There is a lot going on in this story, and I have only scratched the surface of it in my review of this book. If you’re looking for a story with a variety of characters and parts to the overall story, this is the book for you.
Lost & Found: Book 1 of The E Apocrypha by Alex Andre Rules of the Game! The world is broken. Decades after a catastrophic event wiped out all technology. The ancients, had such unimaginable levels of technology, and screwed up so badly, losing everything. And then came the Faith, spreading like a plague, burning books, tearing down libraries, and smearing any trace of progress as apostasy. Seventeen-year-old, Park Yuni-mi was on her way to becoming the most famous Rat in the City with the guidance of her mentor Kim Joon-woo. Then came the loss of Joon-woo, and with it the end of the life she’d known. The almost rape. Being sold like livestock and her first kill. Then there’s Private Baxter “Buck” Brennan, a fresh recruit in the religious Five Points Army, the confederation’s military. He is given a mysterious mission to the fabled City that leads him into the wasteland, beyond the Boundary. Add in a hauler, Rajan Gupta, The Rotten Can, working from a sprawling railroad empire called the Station, Captain Weinberg, Head of Locksville Intelligence Service. And finally, a prominent hierarchy made up of the Five Golden Dragons of the High Council of New Kowloon, a powerful trade house. Park and Buck become entangled in a geopolitical game. Oh my! What fun! It has such an imaginative world built around machines. I cried, laughed, and screamed at and with the characters. This was an interesting book. I will reread to see if I missed anything this go round. Dystopian Post—Apocalyptic Science Fiction Fantasy
If you're a fan of apocalyptic and dystopian novels, this just might be the perfect addition to your collection. The journey begins with Lost & Found and continues with Book II, As & When. Catchy titles, right? Let me take you through what makes these books a must-read for any fan of the genre. The series introduces us to Yun-Mi, a teenage scavenger with a fierce determination to become the best "Rat" in her underground community. The name fits their group, given their subterranean lifestyle. From the get-go, Yun-Mi is thrust into perilous situations, setting the stage for her transformation into a resilient adult. Her journey is filled with enough tension and danger to make any apocalyptic/dystopian lover cringe and shiver. For anyone who enjoys dystopian fiction, this series comes highly recommended. The combination of a strong protagonist, a vividly constructed world, and an emotionally engaging story makes these books a standout in the genre.
This book is almost a genre in itself, unlike anything I have read before. I followed the pages to discover a very peculiar and extremely well-developed world that has remade a familiar and very localized geographical area into a twisted post-apocalyptic world, full of mysteries and power struggles between clans and tribes. Modern world reduced not even to city states, but to town states and village states of sorts. A rich potpourri of modern and ancient social structures and cultures. A story of the civilization that has degraded to a shadow of itself, but of people that are very real with the same desires, hopes and ambitions as us. A tribute to the human thirst for knowledge. It has an engaging story and intricately woven plot. I'm looking forward to the second book!
Absolutely loved this book! The audiobook narration was phenomenal, with a narrator that skillfully handled various accents and voice changes for each character. Despite the large cast, each POV had its own chapter and distinct voice, which made it easy to follow.
As an Army veteran, I was impressed by the accurate portrayal of military life. The nervousness of a private around superiors was spot-on, bringing back memories of my own early days in the Army.
The romantic relationships were beautifully depicted, focusing on emotions rather than physical aspects, which made me connect deeply with the characters. I found myself rooting for their relationships and feeling sad if things didn't work out.
I am so happy that I found this incredible author and I am now an instant fan!
In a world where it is broken and people are barely surviving follows a teenage scavenger named Yun-mi where she trains to become a City Rat. She learns to use weapons, find food and scavenge. During her trials and encounters in the story there is sacrifice, slavery and survival.
First chapter had me immersed in action. Loved all the description of action, the storyline and emotional parts of the book like the part with the loss of her mentor Kim Joon-woo. The narrator for Lost & Found was the perfect person to read this novel. This was such an interesting Dystopian, science fiction, and post apocalyptic book ! I really loved the character building and world building that this book had to offer.
Thank you to the author for letting me listen to your book !

Over the last couple of years I have become a fan of dystopian novels. Not so much apocalyptic, however I have read a few. When I came across this series (The E Apocrypha), I was excited to give it a try.
The first book itself has a nice story, interesting characters and I like that the majority of chapters are short, as there are quite a few. However, have you ever read a book where you enjoy the story and characters but you’re left wondering what was the purpose behind the novel? I continuously felt like I was missing a main plot or twist or something. It just fell short for me.
Overall I enjoyed the book, and is definitely worth the read. I want to thank the author himself for providing me with a copy of this novel.

I'm a big fan of dystopian novels, so when I came across this series, I was excited to dive in and review it.
As I read, though, I noticed something felt a bit off. I kept wondering where the story was heading and what the main plot was. That said, I still enjoyed the narrative. The characters were well-developed, and the book was very detail. However, the multiple storylines made it challenging for me to follow the plot's flow. Despite this, the book came together in the end, making it an overall enjoyable read.
I really enjoy reading dystopian novels, so when the author offered to send me his books for an honest review, I jumped at the chance. Therefore, I want to be as honest as possible. The first book took me a while to get into. I enjoyed the premise and multiple POVs. I thought the depiction of the military was written well. I didn't really enjoy the romance aspects, I felt it fell a little flat. Like some other reviewers have said, I did feel like I was missing a plot line somewhere. I don't think this is a DNF, especially since the rest of the series gets better, but it's also not a book I would necessarily seek out.
Alex Andre wrote a fantastic post apocalypse story. Kristiana Rice did a wonderful job on the narration, The only bad thing with her narration is a lot of the characters sounded the same. The story will surprise you with twists and turns. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat. There is a military aspect as well. The romantic aspect of the story focuses on the emotional and not the physical. They no longer have technology, but they find ways to survive in a post- apocalyptic world. Each POV is a chapter which makes it easier to listen to and understand. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.would recommend
I really enjoyed this book, it was a fantastic first meeting to the series. I found the world, characters and storyline to be extremely detailed and well written. There were times I got lost because there was a lot to keep up with, like the clans/organizations,but there were also quite a lot of characters. This book was well paced and kept my attention throughout which kind of surprised me as this is a pretty decent sized book with a lot of different moving pieces that make up the whole. But I enjoyed reading and definitely recommend giving this book a try.
This was a really interesting premise. I like the characters and the hints of "before." I'd have like to know more about "The E," but I imagine that will become apparent in later books. I didn't enjoy the instalove type part, and I could see where it was going, so that part wasn't a surprise, but it was quite well written. Anyway, it was enough to keep me interested and I'll probably look for the next one.
My first experience with the author whom I found through a scavenger hunt. I found the world, characters and storyline to be extremely detailed. Lots of time went into creating this book. My difficulty was in following all the different characters and clans or organizations. This is a very long book and I almost felt as if I had missed the first book as I tried to create a map or directory in my mind to follow.
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book bc I'm usually not into post-apocalypyptic stories. This one I enjoyed! I think bc some of the story details are so close to what we deal with on a daily basis, how hooked we all are on so many different forms of technology. This book get ur attention from the beginning and kept you hooked I was so happy to already have the second book to continue the story once I was finished! This is a book so many people will enjoy the author did an amazing job
This story was about life Many years after a EMP event. The world became divided in clans, cults, Chinese Dragons, etc. Now we get a view of how it has progressed and what it is or might become. Narrator does a Great job with the various characters voices and the entire storyline.
