Rate this book
When a high school girl is reborn into the world of her favorite novel, she's ready for a life of riches, romance, and a front-row seat to the drama. The problem? She's been reborn as Mary Bell, the villainess of the story!

To make matters worse, she's cursed to continue speaking like the original Mary Bell. Every word she utters sounds rude, conceited, and cruel. However, just as she decides she'll need to live quietly to avoid her death flags, the original heroine of the story, Aria, gets bullied right in front of her. With no choice but to step in, Mary Bell decides to make the most of a new, unexpected proximity to her beloved main character and singer-as her sponsor!

Taking knowledge from her previous life of idols and talent agents, Mary Bell helps Aria traverse a world of nameless troupes and mediocre male leads to become Under a Beautiful Melody's very first pop star, all while avoiding the pitfalls of the original story!

"How could I avoid a predestined catastrophe with these disobedient lips?"

This was an absolute blast to read!! I feel I have so many things I want to say and am worried I won't even be able to say them all because there were just SO many great things about this light novel that I'm super eager to just dive into volume two right now! (I will be buying the physical volume here shortly! I NEED to know what happens next!)

It's been a longgg time since I read a light novel and have avoided reading them mainly because I'll pick them up and then just not finish them. *nervous laughter* However, when I heard about the premise of this one and read the preview, I deeply enjoyed what I read and knew I wanted to read further.

Well, little did I know just how invested I would become! The premise of someone being reincarnated/transmigrated into a villainess is not new, but what was new (at least for me) is that the female lead can't control the original villainess's mouth to save her life. LOL!

I feel that usually in these situations, the "new" villainess will naturally change the previous villainess's mannerisms and way of speaking, but our girl here is out of luck because that tongue does nothing but cause chaos, making this a fun delight to read! I don't know how many times I laughed because the words of what Mary WANTS to say NEVER come out in the way she intends and instead always sounds rude, stuck up, or mean (or all three). LOL!

I laugh because it causes interesting situations to arise, especially when it involves the "heroine" Aria, who is the sweetest heroine!! Oh my goodness I love her and was easily cheering alongside Mary for this new "hobby" to succeed! She is so so so kind and there were even times when I got upset with Mary because I was like, "How dare you make her sad by saying no she can't have X thing?!" LOL!

In fact, I didn't realize that our villainess's past life hobbies of being a hardcore fangirl and learning about idols would come to naturally weave into this story! That was one of my favorite parts and was so unexpected, but super exciting! The brief conversation Mary had with the priest about being a fan made me smile because Mary Bell really is Aria's number one fan! Hehe!

Another thing I really loved about this volume is that of course, the original plot is going to change because Mary has changed and is not making the same choices. Due to that, one of the ways the story has changed is that now ALL three "love interests"(who were all going to fall for Aria in the original plot) have eyes on her, with Mary being engaged to one of them.

I bring that up because Mary puts up quick boundaries with the other two men and that she should NOT be around them or with them alone because she IS engaged. Even if she and Ethen don't have a great relationship, she still makes it known she IS an engaged woman and that the other two men saying they want to get to know her better is not something they should even think about or entertain. I felt it was refreshing for a female lead to do this because we hardly see the other two men as a result, which I liked!

Speaking of Ethen, we don't see him a lot, but I really liked him! I'm so hoping that he and Mary's engagement will continue and that they genuinely will have feelings of love for each other because he's such a good guy! Plus, I really like his casual growth and think he is going to only care deeply for Mary. Also, how could he not if he put up with the previous Mary's actions and attitude and she's better now (even if her words don't seem that way)? LOL!

Truly, the story was engaging from start to finish and I deeply love the main cast of characters! It has been a long time since I've been so eager to put off my manga TBR just to pursue more volumes in a light novel series!

I would highly recommend this series if you're looking for a new villainess series to try with a running theme of music and finding one's purpose! Such a fun story!

Quick, addicting read, but only 4 stars because it ended so quickly.

I like the twist of her not being able to modify her tone of voice and way of speaking much. She ends up sounding like a tsundere actually, with not being able to speak how she truly feels.

If we get the next one soon, the 4 will become a five, but GAH THAT SUDDEN ENDING!! NOT FAIR!!!

Recommended once the next volume is out. Don’t torture yourself with the wait like me! Learn from my mistake!

i was really excited about this. was enjoying it up until mary suddenly does a 180 and goes on about how she’s the perfect idol fan and will turn aria into an entertainer. she started being actually mean about it rather than just having the side effect of rude dialogue :(

As a huge fan of the transmigrated into the body of a villainess trope I was shocked I didn’t know this book was coming out. I snapped it up as soon as I saw it. And it delivered.

I loved the fact that she doesn’t have control over her mouth. Our transmigrated protagonist has the same problem as the MC in “My Death Flags Show No Sign of Ending”. The original owner of the body had a way of talking that she couldn't shake. It makes it more believable than some stories where the complete shift in behavior and way of talking should make things suspicious to the other characters.

I enjoyed that we got, not only our MCs POV, but other POVs that show a misunderstanding of the situation. I love these kinds of misunderstandings (“Tearmoon Empire” and “Me, a Genius? I Was Reborn into Another World and I Think They've Got the Wrong Idea!” are examples of that trope I found amusing). These other views make it more obvious where the plot is going, but I’m more into seeing how our MC will react to the direction the plot seems to be taking us.

I look forward to the next volume because I’d love to see how her relationship with her brother, fiance, the original heroine and her followers develop. I found our MCs hobby to be an unexpected twist and it certainly is taking the story in a direction I haven’t read before. I eagerly await the next volume.

I did see a couple errors when reading, but they weren’t numerous or memorable. It makes me excited for “The Tyrant's Etiquette Tutor” which is suppose to come out this year.

Love this story and the characters!

I really enjoyed this fresh take on a common theme! I'm very worried for where the characters are headed in the next volume, but I am very much looking forward to finding out what happens next!

The new owner of Mary Bell's body wants to live quietly and not be the villainess she was supposed to be. But when everything she wants to say has to be filtered through a villainess' scathing words, even just existing quietly becomes a challenge! When circumstances lead into her being pulled up into the real heroine's orbit, Mary decides she better get on her good side...as her talent manager!?

Ok let's get to it. I know I have a severe case of Second Lead Syndrome a good chunk of the time but you cannot convince me that Mary has chemistry with anyone other than Aria...which is, I know, completely not the point here. But of all the series I've seen where the villainess "steals" the love interest's plot points, I found this one especially fun in the fact that this isn't painted as a love line, but it's not considered less important than one. (But yes I still want to ship them AS a love line because I believe they can make each other the happiest, but this is a "me" problem)

I won a free Kindle copy of this book from a Goodreads giveaway. Thank you to Goodreads and the author and publisher for my free copy.

This book is the first in a series, and while it doesn't leave you quite on a cliffhanger, it does leave you at the threshold of a major event, wondering what might just happen next. I liked the premise of the story, but found the writing to often be a little stiff. Perhaps it's just how the characters speak, being that the story is set in a fictional aristocratic society in approximately the Middle Ages. Perhaps it has to do with translation (I'm not sure if this book was originally written in English or not). But the writing and dialogue felt a little unnatural and weird most of the time. I made my way through the whole story and didn't dislike it, but it wasn't as fun or immersive as I'd have liked. Everything felt very stiff and stilted. I'm curious to see where all of this is going, as the plot is pretty good, but the fact that every character was rigid, awkward, standoffish, either rude or a doormat, and/or otherwise unlikeable and the writing made the story less than smooth, I'm not sure I'm ready for the next one yet.

I really liked the idea behind the premise and plot, and enjoyed the path the story was taking. I just struggled through how the writing style and dialogue tended to feel.

Not sure how I feel

I think the premise for the story was very interesting but the execution left me with mixed feelings. The main character, Mary, is not a very likable character even after being replaced by the reincarnate person. She just went from being horrible to being tolerable. You can tell that the character herself died very young because she still acts very shallow and self-absorbed. With all the antics going on, you'd think it'd be pretty interesting. But in actuality I found myself quite bored. There's not very much details and the things that are going on and the stories very fast paced for not doing much. Interactions with characters is very shallow. It just left me feeling kind of bored...

Entertaining and different

It’s an isekai but it’s different enough to not be super predictable and I like the direction it’s going in. I read it all very quickly. There we’re a few spelling/grammar issues but very rare. Compared to others in its genre- it was quite well done. The cover is well-designed as well, which is great for marketing.
I think the main character could be a bit difficult until to love for some but I liked her

Funny and entertaining start of a light novel series about a girl who is transported into the body of a villainess of a novel. Wanting to survive, she decides to try to curb her tongue (which happens to be most difficult) and try to avoid the heroine...but all does not go as planned!

The premise for the story was interesting but as same time found myself quite bored as not much going on and not much interactions with characters is very shallow. It just left ,e feeling of board.

So this probably going to be DNF as it was just boring for me
