That's where Lux finds himself Dropped into yet another fantasy world, forced to restart his life all over again. I was not able to finish this and it got it as an audiobook. The MC has three lifetimes worth of experience, but makes the same mistake as a noob? He is skilled swordsman, mage etc one minuet and a total dud the next minuet. I mean, he notices an arrow getting ready to shoot at him and he can easily evade it. However, due to his anger he decides to get hit by it because he is in super rage mode? The first 20 minuets seems okay, but the next two and a half hours it just his workout schedual and him trying out super lame magic in a some jail cell. Also, so many FLASHBACKS, and they were super boring which lead to no where. I think the author tried to copy an isekai anime, and just shat the bed while doing so.

Story is bleak, short, and ends on a bad note.

This story is a depressing slog. Main character just whines, but honestly I don't blame him, I probably would too. My sympathizing with him doesn't mean the story is interesting. Will not be looking for a sequel.

This portal fantasy/isekai had a fantastic premise but never quite managed to fully deliver on what it promised due to average writing and a lackadaisical pacing.

The premise really was fun. We joined the tale as the lead POV character Lux was just being dumped into his third new life and third new body! It soon becomes apparent that Lux is angry and frustrated by the situation and unsure why it is constantly happening to him. Life in a new fantasy world was fun at first but has grown tiresome now that he has people he misses in his previous lives! In this new life Lux is determined to keep his head down and stay out of the spotlight to avoid the sort of Chosen One nonsense that did not work out well for him in two previous lives.

The tale should have been really fun but Adam Ladner’s writing never quite managed to fully engage me and the pacing was really slow. This first book was basically just a small introduction to the new fantasy world (typically old school Isekai medieval fantasy setting complete with demihumans), a prison break, and a road trip. The quest state of the story was just beginning to get introduced right at the end.

We got glimpses into Lux’s three previous lives via some reminiscences about his original life on Earth and flashbacks to his two previous lives on different fantasy worlds. I felt the flashbacks could have been more expansive. We learned a bit about Lux’s lost first love and that the second world he landed in was not a pleasant world. We also got a glimpse into how he learned some basic magic and combat skills that has lead him to be a bit more prepared for this 4th life!

Despite some serious flaws the story was still an OK read. Lux was a likeable enough lead even if he did come across as a bit dim. The other characters were a bit simplistic and unnatural in their motivations and dialogue but it helped if you imagined them as weird anime characters rather than real people!

All in all this was OK. It is a fun concept with a flawed execution but I’ll press on to the second book for sure.

Rating: 3 stars.

Audio Note: Alex Knox gave a pretty solid performance of the audio.

I was surprised to find I had gotten 25% of the way through this book before I stopped. I was tempted to go back and re-listen to that 25% just so I could note every stupid thing that happens. I’m pretty certain the author never goes more than 5 pages without something incredibly moronic happening. Still, this book isn’t worth that kind of effort so I’ll just go with what I remember:

First, the author tells the story disjointedly, with flashbacks occurring really just whenever. Perhaps this works better in the written work with some sort of visual cue but in the audio version this was very badly done. At least twice I was uncertain whether the MC was dreaming or having a flashback.

So, MC is transferred to a new world for the third time- the first two worlds are covered in flash backs. If memory serves, the MC learned hunting and living off the land as important skills to someone shunted from world to world, but, instead of using such skills and looking for humans he can safely approach and speak with, the MC marches into the first city he sees. Note that the MC on the other worlds was given a quest to complete so he figures the same will be true here and that the quest is in the city. However, the MC doesn’t really want to complete any quests, having become disillusioned. IN SPITE OF THIS THE MC JUST MARCHES RIGHT INTO THE CITY???

The first person the MC speaks to in the city is a thief in cahoots with an inn owner. MC falls for this scam and ends up fighting with the thief and the inn owner. When the city guard shows the MC DOESN’T EVEN ATTEMPT TO EXPLAIN and just meekly goes to jail. In jail the MC just sits and waits in spite of having the ability to break out. (The MC does exercise and experiment with magic while in jail but, since he could have done that anywhere it doesn’t count.) Eventually a young girl is brought into jail and the MC decides to break out. MC does this by breaking his lock with magic. Does the MC break the lock when just the jailer is around? No. He waits for a group of guards to be in the jail. Does he break the lock in advance so he can jump out and surprise the guards? No. He waits for the guards to be standing outside of his cell watching him. Good thing these guards are completely incompetent or they would have just immediately killed the MC (or, at the least, interrupted the MC’s magic).

In spite of his glaring stupidity the MC kills one guard and questions the other. DOES THE MC ASK HOW MANY GUARDS ARE IN THE JAIL? NO. Frankly I don’t remember what the MC asked because I was so shocked at the author MISSING THE ONLY QUESTION THAT REALLY MATTERED! MC and woman head to guard room where MC encounters 5 guards playing cards. Does the MC immediately attack? No. HE STEPS INTO THE ROOM AND LOOKS AT THE GUARDS UNTIL THEY DECIDE TO MOVE. Worse, does the MC leave the woman in the hallway? No. As a result one of the guards gets to a crossbow, loads it and fires resulting in the MC having to dive in front of the bolt to protect the woman. This one scene is soooooooo stupid I lack the words to adequately describe my disgust. But wait, it unbelievably gets worse.

After killing 7 guards the MC and woman end up at the woman’s home on the theory that she was taken as a part of an off-the-books extortion scheme by the now dead guards; therefore no one other than the dead guards would know she was even in the jail. The stupidity of this is astounding since there was a jailer who is just forgotten about. How does this jailer not know what is going on??? Further the reader is never told the jailer was one of the 7 dead. I really think the author just forgot about him. And the stupidity of just assuming no one else knows is astounding. Other city guards would likely know even if only by rumor. What about the higher ups the crooked guards have to bribe to get away with extortion?

I could keep going, as all it would take is one word in the right ear for the crooked guards to end up in jail themselves if they don’t have higher ups protecting them. At the end of the day this MC was too stupid to live except that the bad guys were, apparently, even more stupid.

What I enjoyed:
- the writing style. It was a step above the juvenile stuff LitRPG generally has to offer.
- the way the author slowly wove the MC's backstory into the tale. Not info-dump, but many flashbacks over time.
- the MC is not really OP, but very strong, for a good reason: he's been at this for a long time.

What I did NOT enjoy:
- the pacing. Very very slow at times, going on meandering.
- the plot: non-existent. Mc's just wandering aimlessly, by his own admission.
- the over-insistence on the magic system. Looks like the author fell in love with their own system and couldn't get enough of it. I didn't care for that very much because it was getting in the way of the story.

I end up with two stars because in spite of the flaws, the way the story is written is pleasing to me, and it kept me engaged. However, getting to 70% of the book and still having no goals was a big turnoff for me. At the end of the day, that is what matters, that is what I require from a book: a STORY. And the author failed to give me one.

Boring. Slow. Whiny. Unbelievably dumb. This could apply to the MC or the book.

I've been trying not to leave reviews if I don't have many positive things to write, but man this was painful. Even listening at a faster speed made this slogfest. There are a few spoilers, but here are my thoughts on this:

I give it a two for the possibilities of the magic system, but the story would need to get a lot better before I consider trying the next book.

An Insult to the Reader

The first 46% of the book, which takes you through the Prison Break, is actually pretty decent, and that's the only reason this has two stars. The protagonist is imprisoned under false pretenses early on in the book, and getting out is actually fairly engaging. But you can't say it was "resolved" though, because all of the characters who did wrong to the protagonist are completely ignored and forgotten. The only characters who are punished are the nameless mooks who triesd to hurt the protagonist's new love interest. But, fine, I could overlook that.

After the 46% mark, however, the book comes to a grinding halt. Action, conflict, tension, all are left behind in favor of a syrupy-sweet and (incredibly stupid) extended hiking date with the love interest. You see, the protagonist's goal is to escape the expectations that his new world will inevitably impose on him and live his own life. That's a decent goal. He means to accomplish this goal by fleeing the country into which he was deposited. That's a decent plan. He decides to execute the plan by... walking to the border. In a world with fast horses and magical communication, in which he has tremendous wealth and the ability to magically enhance his speed... He walks. Slowly and taking extended breaks for needless sightseeing and shopping. And at the very end, he's surrounded by guards that come out of nowhere and capture capture his love interest, and instead of magically slaughtering them all as he had previously... he just gives up his goals on the vage promise they'll let his girlfriend go. The end!

Really, really bad. Infuriatingly stupid. The author can write moment to moment well enough, but can't plot his way out of a paper bag. Do not pay for this.

Book one

Mistakes: I didn't find anything wrong with this book. I was just bored by it.

Plot: A guy that has been sent to two different world's is sent to a third. There is a little action, but it's mostly dreams from his past lives and uneventful travel.

Characters: Not really dull, but if he got sat on by an elephant I'd laugh and think the book ended well.

5/10 This book just needs more action and less dream time.

I absolutely hate the cover art. The book cover should be some sort of representation of the work it's guarding. That is most definitely not the case here and I'm glad i read it despite it. So if you're reading this i hope you'll take the chance and check out the author's work also.

This book was a pleasant surprise. It's based on a common trope but framed very differently. There's tons of unanswered questions throughout but as a beginning of what i imagine to be a long story it makes great sense to highlight them now and slowly reveal them as we go. Even if some of the questions make me feel like I'm dealing with multiple mini cliff hangers. The MC is not the typical for this type of story but that because he's been shaped that way and for good reasons that are explained in volume 1. The way the character development is written was done well, I think, by only giving you little pieces to digest at a time.

The only real plot point I'm having a problem understanding is this country doesn't seem to be in any kind of war stance. It's even explained in one passage how an impressive military fort was retired and converted into a large flourishing city, which even sits quite close to a border with another country. So I'm having an issue trying to find what everyone wants the MC so badly for. I guess I'll have to wait for the next volume for that question's answer also.

An interesting premise ruined by a complete lack of plot, a thoroughly unlikable protagonist, and a truckload of very cringe male wish fulfillment. Why yes, of course, the shy, modest girl is going to strip naked in front of a man she just met multiple times for no reason other than the author thought it would be hot, no matter that that sort of behavior doesn't fit the character's personality at all. *Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*

This feels like book 3 or 4 in a series. It starts well into the MC's journey through worlds with no explanation on to what's happening or why. The character writing is fine, the world building and magic system is fine but there just isn't a hook here. Nothing was particularly wrong with the book but it just failed to capture my interest. I might continue with the series if I can remember I read it.

Overall the concept sounds fun.

But I can't tell if the main female lead is 26 or 16. Apparently she's supposed to be 26, but she has the mannerisms and personality of a 16 year old child. Couple that with the constant dream stories that didn't really add much to the main story. It just became too much for me to continue reading.

4th life yet still acts like a moron

Main character apparently is on his 4th life in a new world yet makes mistakes that most people get taught not to do when there 10. Backstory has zero connection with how the MC acts, seems like a standard 14 year old with no brain. Also incredibly weak, thousands of light novels that have done this better.

Not very good

The syllabus should read: Man once again gets transported to another world to be a hero, stops a rape, escapes a dungeon, and has the female proffers her love after knowing him for four day( one of which he is unconscious).

It’s just… kind of bad, also the “hero” who’s pissed off at the world refuses to kill no name guards and is disappointingly predictable.

3 to 3.5 stars, it was okay, I did like it but not much really happened. It is kind of a setup for the next book I guess as it was a little slow with what happened. I think I will continue but with the way it is going I think I will have to read all 3 books just to equal one book. With that said I still liked it for the most part.

Lame

Wow the book goes nowhere fast it ends really at the same spot it begins. The MC makes the same mistakes over and over again expecting different results.... The literal definition of insanity. Don't waist your time.

I really wish I could give this 5 stars

I’d like to start out saying that this book is very well written. It has plenty of action, thought, love interest, and good solid personal relationships. That being said, one of my pet peeves is when an author makes a big deal about some thing and then never carries through. In this case it was teaching the main character to read. The main character, through the first part of the book, laments his inability to read signs, tags etc. Later the love interest promises to teach him to read, and states that “they have plenty of books at home to help.” As you go through the rest of the book and not once after that did the characters talk about the need to learn to read, but actually spend the evenings playing cards.
Another problem is when the description of the main character is having unruly hair and a beard. And then later in the book there are reward posters out for his arrest. There is no discussion between the characters or effort made to disguise him other than pulling up a hood. No effort to change his looks so that he would be unrecognizable or harder to recognize.
Sorry just some of the things that really bug me as a reader. It just makes it difficult to get into the story.
One author I know makes a postet when ever something is brought up or discussed multiple times so he can make sure they are resolved or used before the story ends.
But overall I really did enjoy the book and intend to keep reading this series.

I went back and forth with this one. I kept asking myself if I liked it. Parts of it I did and other parts were just kind of there. I liked the premise. I liked the magic system. I liked some of the characters. The world building was a little lax. I was back and forth with how the story unfolded. It starts with a guy going to a new world. This is apparently the 3rd time this has happened and he isn't too happy about it. He misses the people he left behind on these other worlds and doesn't like what he has to do on each world. We get flashbacks to what happened to him on these other worlds whenever he dreams. It isn't told in chronological order though. It is kind of a scattered mess. I asked myself again, do I like this? Meh. Not my favorite but also it wasn't too bad. I was doing okay all the way until the end. The way it ended put this from a 3.5 star book to a 3 star book.

Restart Again Volume 1 introduces us to our MMC Lux (aka Elden Graham) who once lived in America, but was dropped suddenly into a fantasy world forced to figure out the world, the people in it, and the ✨magic✨ that exists. I mean, it sounds pretty cool until you settle in, make connections, and get comfortable just to be suddenly thrown into a whole new fantasy world and forced to start all over again. The book starts with Lux being thrown into his THIRD world, and quickly being taken advantage of, forced to fight for his life and thrown into prison. In prison, he meets a young woman, Lia, who was wrongfully captured as leverage against her father. Lux and Lia form a strong connection that grows as their adventure together unfolds. Will Lux finally get the ending that he wants in the world he’s in before he’s forced to start over again?

What I loved:
✨Lux and Lia - I loved the little flame between the two and can’t wait to see their relationship unfold as the series continues. We even get a “one bed trope” out of this book for all you romantasy lovers.

✨the magic system - “mana” - I’m intrigued by the use of unique magic and weaponry in the series and can’t wait to see what other possibilities are out there for this system of magic

✨okay maybe I’m mad but also happy about the CLIFF HANGER OF AN ENDING 🤦‍♀️😅 I literally need more. I’m so frustrated but so intrigued to know what happens next. Verrrryyyyyy clever Adam.

An emotional rollercoaster.

I love the new take on a normal isekai. I've never thought about it potentially happening again and again, and the sheer mental trauma leaving everyone behind would cause.
So, the storyline and plot and both unique and masterfully presented.
Characters have fully fleshed-out personalities and voices.
I particularly love how "Dark" some of his past lives and worlds were, and yet the author lets us imagine the pain from it. Doesn't feel the need to spell it all out, and I like that a lot.

Oh, and the occasional graphic that lets to truly picture them is great!

I love that the author acknowledges the fact that terrible things are done to people, especially to coerce good people. And that when women are used as leverage, evil people tend to do it in the most despicable way.
However, I greatly respect the author for not letting it happen. That even though the risk was there, it was prevented.
NC will make me drop a series faster than anything.
Abuse of that nature is not character growth, I don't care how much more mentally strong or less naive they become. The author can find a way to build the character better. And Adam Lander Scott did just that.
He showed that it was a risk and that it was a risk prevented.
Also, he made bad things happen to very bad people, and that makes me happy.

If you like the reincarnation and isekai genres, I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy this book. It has a good balance of lighthearted moments with realistic worries. While it’s not exactly family friendly, and I wouldn’t recommend it for younger readers, it steers far enough away from any triggering content.

Sexual violence is only implied, never mention by specific words or actions, never done by anyone in the novel, and is a very very small part of the story overall. I usually stop reading a book at the first signs of such things, but I felt this never bordered into triggering content for me personally. The total amount reference was maybe a few sentences out of the entire book. While I would prefer my stories to never have any mention of it at all, I could tolerate “overlooking” (for lack of better words) these little bits and focus on the main, actual story at hand.

As is, I’d place it up there with my current favorites: Overlord, Reincarnated as a Slime, and I’m a Spider, So What? I plan to keep track of this series, with great hope that the following volumes keep its current quality.

Irritating

I really wanted to like this book. Reincarnation / isekai is my favorite LitRPG.
But I couldn't bring myself to like it. Certainly there were some great aspects, but there were a few things I couldn't get past.
The male MC treated the main female supporting character like a pet. There were many instances of patting her head or petting her hair. She was treated as naive and juvenile. Furthermore, the MC admitted multiple times to being aware that she was in love with him, and that he didn't return the feeling, but he would sleep mostly naked with her, cuddling and touching. I understand that this is likely leading to the MC slowly coming around and falling in love with the girl, but don't lead her on while still unsure. It's inconsiderate and even hurtful.
The other main thing that interrupted immersion is that the authorities are all purely tyrannical and abusive. Every guard is a rapist and thug. Not a single one is a good person or responsible protector.
Overall I will not be continuing the series. Some people may really enjoy the series. I recommend you give it a try. The writing is good with no errors and well thought out ideas.

What is this in a few words?
It's an isekai, but it has the twist that it's the protagonist's third trip. And he isn't pleased at all.
It's more or less a classic fantasy setting with magic and medieval technology, class system, plus a few non-human people mixed in. The magic system is really thought through though (Sorry for th^3) and it's a hard magic system with clear rules behind it. The fights are detailed enough to pain them in your head without them being bogged down by too many detail.
It's also a slice of life with many moment-to-moment scenes. That also means that there is less big plot development in this first book, so if you're expecting many characters and twist - don't. If you're looking for character-driven scenes and enjoyable daily-ish life on the road - good for you. You're in for a treat.
And most importantly: It's book 1 of who knows how many more to come. So it's a prologue.

If you keep this in mind (prologue of a fantasy isekai with slice of life character) you're going to be fine 😉

I was never going to touch this book because of the atrocious cover, but a fellow reader told me that the anime cover is bait, and the book is enjoyable. I hope he is right.

I don't under this book.

Well. My instincts were right about avoiding and not picking up this book. It's almost certainly anime fanservice. I knew that cover was bad news. It's filled with horrible anime tropes,

The anime lovers will love it, I dislike it.
I will not be picking up the sequel, nor anything else written by the author.

Disappointed.

The MC is a big whiny cry baby ... literally bawling like a half dozen times or more in the first book. The book is slow paced without any real direction and so it slogs on.

The girl, a 25 year old virgin who lives with her parents and still wears dresses is battle trained to the degree that she can fight 3 trained guards in a few weeks time all while learning magic.

My last thoughts are how stupid the book becomes at critical times. IF you knew you were about to be ambushed by 11 guards that have blocked off the street, would you walk out the front door with no other plan?! No get away plan? I mean you're in the middle of a city and you haven't the brains to plan an escape? To maybe try a disguise?

Too annoying...and very disappointing.

Well-Crafted and Interesting

Aside from the review title, the first thing to know is that the story pacing is quite slow. Normally this would be frustrating, but here I can see a real promise of a greater story once we get the plot moving faster. Added to that is the fact that the work is indeed well written and edited, and that the worlds and characters are all unique and interesting. All of this piques my curiosity in good ways, and I want to see what happens next. Recommended (14+)

Interesting but feeling deceived

It's not a whole book. It is part of a series, and if you don't have the next volume, don't bother. Just when it gets interesting, and the world introduction is done, bam, the end. On a cliff, too. No resolution to any plot threads introduced. Just one big cliffhanger, with an Author's note that volume 2 is on the way. But for me, this volume doesn't stand on its own. I don't mind reading a series, but way too many books I've read lately follow the same pattern, where book 1 of the series is nothing but an intro that ends suddenly.

Lux is tooo NICE....

Some people might like a character that like to help other, but this isn't for me. To me it feel too forced, the author try to force Lia and Lux together. I don't feel real chemistry between them and whatever feeling Lux have for Lia I know it is not real and organic. Lux just want to be NICE and help Lia.

I am not calling myself a feminist but, the character Lia to me stuck out like a sore thumb. Lia main purpose is just to be weak female so that Lux can be the NICE guy and help her.
