‘Audacious stories marinated in macabre, magic and mayhem.’

From the heart of Scotland, Natasha Sinclair is an independent writer, editor and artist. Working under her brand ‘Clan Witch’ for her creative endeavours and ‘Word Refinery’ for editorial works.

Her writing is often woven with horror, sex and psychological elements. She loves to frolic in the darkness with folklore and the macabre and rich history of her homeland.

Art is unrestrained freedom, as is how storytellers choose to wield the fluid movement and global diversity of language to carve captivating and authentic tales that woe, excite or terrorise an audience. Sinclair passionately embraces that, painting original characters with true form, dialect and depth. The devil is in the details.

She is the co-conspirator of ‘Brazen Folk Horror’ with her writing partner, Ruthann Jagge. The Brazen Folk Horror duo’s debut collaborative novel, ‘Delevan House’ releases in February 2023.

Sinclair is a member of The Horror Writers Association (HWA) and The Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).

"....opening their jaws to mouthfuls of dirt, roots and beasties, trying to see with eyeless sockets through the condensed, opaque dark." 🖤

Thanks to Natasha Sinclair who gave me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Like mostly all short story collections, there's hits and misses for me.

I'm really glad I read this collection because there were a few memorable ones and I love that some are set in Glasgow, my hometown.

If you're into dark, horror stories filled with sordid sex and soaked with gore then you're going to want to read this collection of short stories.

● City of the Dead ☆☆☆☆☆

● Always Time for Tea ☆☆

● Fuckin' Maggots ☆☆☆

● Collector's Edition ☆☆

● Boys will be Boys ☆☆☆☆

● Lust & Rage ☆☆☆

● "Grandma, take me home" ☆☆☆

"Incesticide" by Natasha Sinclair

I was sent my copy in exchange for a honest review.

This novel is a collection of horror tales. All of them are written uniquely with their own kick and twist. My top three favorites were "Always Time For Tea" which is a BDSM story, "Fuckin' Maggots" is a pretty sick tale about music and groupies, and "Collector's Edition" which is for any reader who enjoys the zombie troupe.

There were two stories that stood out to me most though in this collection and while I didn't care much for them I still felt they were a great inclusion to this book and deserve recognition. These stories were called "The City of the Dead" and "Boys Will Be Boys". They were written with genuine Scottish dialect and I can't imagine how hard it was to write them. They definitely rounded out the book and added an extra punch I wasn't expecting. 3.5 🌟.

I’ve tried several times to get into these stories, but they just weren’t for me. Based on the title I was expecting something so much more extreme/splatterpunky, but it’s just inspired from the Nirvana song.

Other readers should give it a chance and dive in to garner their own thoughts.

More amazing stories from Natasha Sinclair, The real Mistress of Darkness. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. A good mixture of horror sub genres is held between the covers. Well worth a read.

This author draws you into every story in this book and embraces you and envelops into the dark horror, bizzaro, splatter and gore. I would put it also has raunchy horror sex too in some of the stories.

Each story is told in its own unique style, I also loved that the author used local dialect in some of the book as this is something I haven't come across in the books I usually read so it was very refreshing to read.

I was literally gripped by every word on the page and I fell into the world of horror and macabre by this brilliant author but the details and descriptive words were beautiful even though it could of been the most horrific scene in the book.

This is the second book I've read by this author a brilliant read it was too. I highly recommend it. I lost myself to the real world and was immersed in the macabre and horror of this author's mind of collected horror stories, loved it !!!!!!!

Dark, intricate tales written in a unique style told from the perspective of lands unfamiliar to some, but right next door to others. Sinclair shows each story with detail that immerses you into the folds of characters and into the terror of the web of their lives. While reading this collection the stories swallowed my soul. If you're looking for gothic, splatter, extreme or an escape in the horrific world painted in words, look no more. Sinclair steers from the derivative drivel available on the market and pulls you into the nightmare fueled world of horror at its finest.

*I'm not going to give you the 'what this book is about' blurb - you can read that elsewhere.

1. Thank you to Natasha Sinclair for the ARC - this was one of my highly anticipated releases, so getting to read it early was amazing, and it did not disappoint.
2. Natasha is Scottish; let's get that out of the way. Portions of the book are written in vernacular dialogue which I really enjoyed. It added so much character and atmosphere to the stories where it was included. Was it always super easy for me to understand as someone who has never been to Scotland? Nope. But I slowed down my reading pace, used context clues, and read it again when needed and found it makes a lot of sense if you don't try to plow through, and as I said - it adds so much to the stories.
3. If you think extreme horror is just a lot of blood and gore splayed out on a page for all to see, it absolutely can be that, but it can also be beautifully poetic where the gore and pain is hidden between gorgeous sentences. You have to move the curtain a bit to peek behind it and see the extreme. I love both styles, and this was very refreshing for me as I read it at a time where I'd been reading a lot of the former style so this was a nice change of pace.
4. I enjoyed every story in this collection, but my absolute favorite was 'Always Time for Tea', which is a dark take on Alice in Wonderland - there's something so sinister and creepy about this tale, but it's so elegantly written, I had to read it twice!

Incesticide was just the read I had been looking for - raw, horrific, shocking, and sordid - and unique in style. Natasha has such a beautiful and poetic way with words, even when those words are intimately detailing gore, blood and pain. This is macabre, dark, twisted horror at its absolute finest.

Natasha is Scottish, and a couple of the stories are written in vernacular dialogue. I enjoyed this aspect as it gave such a richness of depth and atmosphere. Sometimes I had to go back and read over some of this dialogue, which meant I could take my time with the stories and digest them. One of my favourites, City of the Dead, was so rich in Scottish folklore and urban legend that this aspect immersed me deeper into the world and its horrors.

Honestly, I enjoyed all the stories in this collection but particularly loved Always Time for Tea, which was a dark and twisted take on Alice in Wonderland (my favourite children's story), and Fuckin' Maggots, which was a glorious splatterpunk tale with a very spicy sex scene which was a delight to read.

Overall this collection is absolutely recommended if you like horror entwined with sex and psychological elements that isn't afraid to be brazen and push the boundaries.

Thank You Natasha Sinclair

This is my Honest Review

This Novella is not for the faint of heart. Splatterpunk is not one of my top horror go to. This one was very well crafted with plausible characters.
Blood, Visceral, and Sex in well written Scottish story.

Natasha Sinclair is the Mistress of Splatterpunk. Highly Recommend this for people who love Splatterpunk.

Incesticide: Collected horror by Natasha Sinclair
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a great collection of short horror stories, and I often love to read anthologies or collections of stories, because they're usually under 30 pages each or so, and if you don't like one, you can skip it and it doesn't impact the rest of your reading of the book. These are all what I would call either extreme horror, or verging on the line of, and so I was glad I reached out to Natasha to get a copy to review.

Some of the stories are based on ideas of original stories, for example 'Always time for tea' uses loose ideas, such as similar names and and different pieces of inspiration from the tales of Alice in wonderland, and is turned really cleverly into a completely twisted tale revolving around fetish and going down a horroresque gory rabbit hole. Whilst it wasn't my favourite story, I really enjoyed how an author can take an idea of a loved classic, and turn small ideas into a whole entirely different story.

A favorite of mine was actually the first story 'City of the dead' which takes an urban legend that our author knew about as a child. I hadn't ever heard of this before, but by the time the story ended, I had to google and read some more about it because how can anyone not be interest in and I quote 'The child vampire hunt of 1954' the story itself is written in such a way that it is incredibly raw I guess I'd describe it as, using a reigonal dialect to help you feel more immersed into the story, and there is no extra or unnecesary addition, it kind of reminded me of a favourite author of mine, R.M Francis, in the way he writes.

Some of the stories have loads of explicit sex in and I've said previously that horror and sex in books just go together, and Natasha manages to write these scenes really well and in an uncringe manner which I always appreciate. Collectors edition happened to be another favourite of mine, which combines zombie type creatures with the porn industry, and honestly it was just a kind of fun read.

Luckily for me, I don't think there were any stories I really disliked, of course I had my favourites, and I think that's what reading collections all about. This is a great one for all of my gory horror readers, and don't forget to let me know which one is your favourite!!

Thanks so much to @clan_witch for sending me your book so I could review!!
