Sometimes, you need a last-minute read to squeeze in before the year ends, even if it doesn’t help you meet your reading goal (been there, done that, and failed miserably 😅). But at least I got to finish this amazing comic and end the year with a 5-star read!
A college centred possibly enemies to lovers, grumpy x sunshine BL story? GIMMMEEEE!!!
Chu Sangwoo is a tell it like it is, by the book type of person. He is a computer science major and finds himself in a situation we’ve all experienced before, getting grouped with freeloaders during a group project. Instead of sucking it up, Sangwoo pulls a power move and boots the freeloaders from the presentation, giving himself all the credit. Cue chaos when one of those freeloaders, Jang Jaeyoung, can’t graduate because of Sangwoo’s decision. What happens next? Let’s just say sparks fly when this oil and water duo meet. Sangwoo, the uptight engineer, and Jaeyoung, the carefree artist are forced to work together. Jaeyoung becomes the ultimate “semantic error” in Sangwoo’s meticulously ordered world. Can Sangwoo debug his life before Jaeyoung completely short-circuits him?
The art style? Chef’s kiss. 👌 It’s bright, colourful, and perfectly matches the comic’s gaming and computer science aesthetic. You can practically feel the tension in every panel, and the little gaming motifs sprinkled throughout add an extra layer of charm.
The comedic timing had me rolling, especially that savage presentation scene where Sangwoo listed himself as the sole contributor on the credits screen. Absolute pettiness at its finest. 😂 And the way these two characters constantly push each other’s buttons is so entertaining. You can feel the sparks of both irritation and something more brewing between them.
Overall, Semantic Error, Vol. 1 was a delightful mix of humor, tension, and slow burn. I’m already dying for the next volume when the romance hopefully kicks in? If you’re into college BL stories with a side of enemies-to-lovers antics, check this one out.

review for the whole manhwa:

a really sweet read that had me with a constant smile for a huge part of it! the romance was pretty unique and cute - the characters’ internal dialogue was shown a lot which i really appreciated. nothing huge but for what they are (university… modern day…), the yearning and feelings they had for each other was solid. the art in this is lovely as well.
i was fiending for the ml 🙂↕️ but, i read a couple of chapters and i wasn’t a fan of his personality. he started annoying me a lot with how he treated the mc. the mc was giving these stem-obsessed boys from high school which was an unlikeable jolt to the past… but, my relatively-negative or indifferent feelings on them ended with season 1! but, season 1 of this was so meh to read and i would’ve dnf-ed this if i didn’t want to see it till its end.
that was the right decision because it really picked up, for me, after season 1. i guess season 1 really established the enmity they had for each other because it felt like a solid slow-burn foundation that was great for their upcoming romance. i found that romance really cute and honestly, little to no complaints. i ended up really liking the mc as well - he somehow became super funny and relatable… i remained indifferent with the ml but, i like that he wasn’t this typical stoic guy and his personality was refreshing! he also served nice yearning for a lot of this as well.
some issues i had were: just how season 1 was, i felt like it dragged a little at the end, the ml was too possessive - since they’re regular students in university, he was doing too much with the possessiveness which made it cringe, i had to suspend my disbelief for a bit of this because i can’t fathom doing any of this shit and i’m an uni student as well… don’t hit me with this is the “true love effect” cause no. and the miscommunication got too much after a point (i enjoy miscommunication a lot but, the mc’s perspective on things was lowkey annoying while the ml’s perspective was done well). also, in general, this wasn’t the type of manhwa i could binge which was shocking. i wasn’t hooked or savouring it even though i liked it and also, didn’t want to finish it for the sake of finishing it.
overall, a manhwa with a cute romance and great art as well as with a mc i really liked!

i thought i was going to have much more to say about this....i went in with high expectations because i have watched the bl series multiple times because i loved it so much!!! 🥹 but this was just kinda boring and dragged too much for me. halfway through i was already getting tired of reading it, and this manhwa has 90+ chapters so..... anyway, i'm pretty disappointed i didn't like this more 💔

Major points to this series for its depiction of both a neurodivergent character and the way that people treat him. I don't love that it's going to turn into a romance, because the Jaeyoung is such a jerk due to his inability to understand that Sangwoo isn't just "a jerk" or "set in his ways," he has a very specific way of doing things in order to cope with the world. Since I manage my anxiety by having a routine, this hits close to home, although if I had to armchair diagnose, I'd say Sangwoo is more likely to be on the autism spectrum. Either way, if Jaeyoung can come to understand that and respect it, I'll feel better about the romantic element. As it stands now, I'm leery, but interested in reading more.

I was pretty curious about this manhwa since it's one of the most popular BLs out there. All that, only to be incredibly disappointed.
One thing about me, if I hate the characters, I'll hate the story. Sangwoo is the most self center main character I ever read about. Not only that, he was a walking stereotype for a computer science male student, hich honestly I wasn't a fan at all and it just made the story annoying rather than funny.
I really did want to enjoy it, but sadly it wasn't for me. I do hope that other people will get to enjoy it!

I loved this. These two have such amazing chemistry together, and I adore the subtle ways they start to influence each other. While sometimes the teasing walks a fine line between playful annoyance and genuine harassment, the fact that we get both POVs goes a long way to endear both characters to me.

An intersting start to a series with a (clearly, if not explicitly stated) neuroatypical main character. Sangwoo Choo is a computer science student who has precise routines down to a minute and no social skills, but who is brilliant at what he does. Think Sheldon Cooper, but slighly less annoying and endearing. When people in his group project fail to do their part, he makes everything by himself and doesn’t give them any credit, as he believes is right. Because of that, one of them, Jaeyoung Jang, fails to graduate.
Jaeyoung is a handsome and popular design major who has to give up a grad-school place in the US because of Sangwoo—as he sees it. Sangwoo thinks it’s Jaeyoung slacking that caused him to fail to graduate. Jaeyoung threatens Sangwoo, causing the other man to avoid him. And Jaeyoung doesn’t like to be ignored. But when they come across each other, Sangwoo doesn’t even recognise him, or remember his name. In a chapter from Jaeyoung’s POV we learn that the two have come across often even, without Sangwoo recognising him.
Jaeyoung manages to anger Sangwoo who declares he hates Jaeyoung. And like a childish psycho Sangwoo believes Jaeyoung is, the latter starts to do everything to get under Sangwoo’s skin. It soon gets ugly. Not only does Sangwoo’s studies suffer, the disrupting of his routines impacts his mental health. But just as he starts to cope with it, Jaeyoung changes tack and becomes nice. That truly messes with Sangwoo’s head. The first volume ends there.
I liked this story, although it was uncomfortable at times. Sangwoo was a difficult character to like with his uncompromising manners and inability to handle social situations, which made him come across as rude, but I sympathised with him in his suffering he really didn’t deserve. And the sociable Jaeyoung wasn’t any nicer in how he believed it’s his right to ruin Sangwoo’s life for his own amusement. But it’s interesting to see where this will develop, so I’ll definitely read more. Art was full colour and great.

Absolutely devoured this in a day. The art is great and it kept me engaged. The relationship was a bit frustrating because they're both BRATS, but it was still cute and I'm looking forward to seeing them together. I'm marking "Vol. 1" read as Season 1.
Sangwoo is a very strict matter of fact person. He lives by a specific routine and follows all the rules. So when all of his group members ditch him on the final, he finds it reasonable that he remove their names from the project which results in them getting a failing grade. One of the members in particular, Jaeyoung, gets the worst of it. The failed grade makes it so he can't graduate. The two become involved again by coincidence and Jaeyoung becomes a “semantic error” in Sangwoo's life, disrupting his routine and messing with his head.
This is a bit of an enemies to lovers/ bully romance type of relationship, Jaeyoung is a pretty big jerk at first and goes really out of his way to bully Sangwoo. I became very invested in the two of them and seeing how their relationship played out and how they would recover it from where it started. Season 1 concludes with them becoming sort of friends. Sangwoo has become aware of Jaeyoung and has developed feelings for him, but isn't sure what to do with them. I'm really looking forward to more of Sangwoo throwing Jaeyoung off his game.

The beginning is so frustrating because Jaeyoung is bothering Sangwoo so much. They're both kind of acting like kids lol. I just want to get to the part where they start becoming friends already.
Not sure if it's because I have an arc edition or what, but the art quality is really poor. It feels like I'm reading an illegal scan that's been ripped and reposted like 20 times. It's so blurry. I really hope it doesn't look like this in the finished copy.

Choo Sangwoo and Jang Jaeyoungs story starts when they're both part of a group for a school project, but everyone ignores their duties except for Sangwoo, who rightfully claims his credits and leaving none for the others, which means Jaeyoung isn't allowed to graduate.
I've seen this title floating around on the internet for quite a while already, and when I saw it on Netgalley I decided to go for it and request an ARC. The ARC I recieved is in exchange for a review, but all opinions are my own.
Volume 1 focusses mainly on getting to know the characters, but also about discovering just what the deal is with these two and why there is a story in the first place. So do not come barging in expecting romance from the get go.
Personally I'm a bit unsure on whether or not I want to read the second volume. Yes, I love Sangwoo and yes I think I can come to like Jaeyoung, but I'm hesitant about how the romance might develop. Yet, as I write this, I also realise that I want to know so I can judge based on that, so I think I might pick up volume two and then decide whether to keep supporting or not.
Only thing I struggled with is that some of the text messages at the beginning of the story were hard for me to read on my phone. The art style I am in love with.
This story is perfect if you love: enemies or haters to possible lovers / slowburn / character driven plot / your fics to be longer than 10k
This story might not be for you if you prefer: no bullying at all / fast romance / there to be no backstory between people / your fic filter to be set to works shorter than 7k

I’m not too sure how to feel about this one. It’s so obvious that Sangwoo is autistic or at least on the neurodivergent spectrum but everyone just treats him like he’s a weirdo. Has nobody ever encountered someone like this before? He’s blunt, follows a routine, has assigned seats, and has to do the same things by the same time daily. I didn’t really get the scene where they were mad at him not drinking at the party. Is that not normal? A lot of people don’t like drinking. I don’t see how Sangwoo was at fault for anything that happened with the project. He did all the work. If everyone was mad because of it, that is their problem. He’s not a pushover so he gets points for that.
There were a good bit of funny moments between Jaeyoung and Sangwoo but I don’t see how this is going to turn into an enemies to lovers romance. It really just seems like Jaeyoung is bullying and bothering Sangwoo in a weird attempt at revenge and to get his attention. And I don’t like the “pulling pigtails” plot devices. Jaeyoung is going to have to treat Sangwoo like a human being and shape up from being a jerk if the romance is going to be believable. I think at the end they were trying to convey he was trying to help and be nicer, but why would you take his hat off without asking him and keep it away from him when it’s obviously a source of comfort and security for him? Primeramente diré que obviamente la serie es MUCHÍSIMO mejor. Es de mis BL favoritos y los cambios que le hicieron fueron a mejor, además de que los actores lo hacen excelente.
Aún así, el manhwa también está bueno, el dibujo es hermoso y los personajes me encantan bastante, me creo que hay atracción y más de parte de Jae Young, claramente.
Es un genial enemies to lovers, uno molestando mucho al otro y como poco a poco van cayendo.
Estoy releyendo esta historia porque recuerdo que en su momento se me olvidó estar pendiente de las actualizaciones y, ahora, quiero llegar ahí.

I'm already not a huge enemies-to-lovers fan, but this one was extreme in the bothering and bullying and stalking. It just was uncomfortable and unenjoyable for me. I also was uncomfortable with the main character, who is so autistic-coded, being constantly referred to as a robot.

Having watched the live action drama, I still find the manhwa enjoyable. Talk about a meet ugly! This volume does a great job showing what these characters are like and why they tick each other off so much. Jaeyoung goes through a ridiculous amount of effort to make Sangwoo notice him, but he's not doing this for kicks: he truly wants to know him better. Hilarious and got me laughing out loud on several occasions. Can't wait to read more.

While I loved the cute moments, there was just so much miscommunication, to the point where I found myself feeling frustrated for multiple chapters. The ending felt pretty rushed as well.
Despite this, my overall experience was pretty okay, and I did enjoy the sweet moments between the couple!

I enjoyed this BUT it was a little boring. I really don't like Sangwoo and he's the main character (besides Jaeyang) so that may have something to do with it. I have a feeling the stoy will get way better in the other volumes!
