Greta does everything expected of the prestigious Meir family—until a stormy afternoon when she takes exactly what she wants from Jacob Grimm, a man who represents everything she's supposed to avoid.
When the clouds part, they part ways, certain their passionate encounter is just an erotic chapter in their vastly different lives. But fate has other plans. Weeks later, he's at her father's conference table—a living reminder that giving in to temptation comes with a price.
Jacob knows getting involved with Greta risks his hard-won business success. Greta knows he’ll shatter her carefully ordered world. Yet, forced to work together, their resistance melts into a passion threatening to consume them both.
With her family's judgment and his hard-earned pride threatening to tear them apart, some loves are worth fighting for—even when the battle is against everything and everyone they've ever known.
DK Marie’s a voracious reader. Her number one love is romance and devours any and all of its genres, but also enjoys thrillers, horror, and non-fiction. Basically, if there are words on a page and a spectacular story, she’s diving in, heart and soul.
However, there’s one thing she loves even more, and that’s writing her own steamy contemporary romances. They’re a mixture of heart, heat, and humor. Brimming with confident heroines and kind heroes, all living, loving, and lusting in and around her hometown of Detroit, Michigan.
When not falling in love with her characters, DK Marie is laughing, relaxing, and planning her next adventure with her family. Okay, and also drinking boatloads of coffee, chatting on social media, and dreaming about her next travel destination.
Fairy Tale Lies was a compelling and intriguing read. I don't read a lot of contemporary romance so it was challenging at first to get past there wasn't intense fighting or dire situations to deal with. But once I came to grips with the idea these are real-life situations, not fantasy or paranormal, I have to say I really enjoyed this book. I connected with Jacob. I thought he was the ultimate man's man. A modern day Alpha male who was in tune with what, and who, he wanted. Greta on the other hand irritated me at times. Her on again, off again attitude made me want to slap her. I felt she cared deeply for Jacob from the very beginning, but her archaic beliefs about her family's objections were frustrating, not to mention her interactions with the dickhead ex. I guess that's why I was more in tune with Jacob. I was feeling what he was. Which says a lot about D.K.'s writing. And let's not forget the sexual tension between these two. It was smoldering and the sex scenes made me want to drop the book and seek out my husband. :) Each scene was superbly written and brought you into every nuance of their lives. If contemporary romance is your genre, then I highly recommend Fairy Tale Lies. You will not be disappointed.
Can we just please start with this cover? Because yes, I very much DO judge a book by its cover and this one is STUNNING! Okay I might be mildly biased because men with facial hair is a BIG weakness of mine. And Jacob certainly fulfills that need for me.
That said... Jacob is basically a walking, talking fantasy all on his own. He has that incredibly enticing level of confidence just bordering on arrogance, but in a stupidly sexy way. Not only that, but he isn't the typical romance story billionaire. He is a blue collar worker who actually put in the blood, sweat, and tears to create his dream career... and a nice bank account to go along with it. Something that may very well all be put in jeopardy when he is forced to work on a project with Greta at her father's command. He had no idea that a short time before, Greta and Jacob had already met, in an incredibly intimate way.
Yep, that's right folks, on a rainy summer day, Greta and Jacob hooked up when he knocked on the door of her mother's home to deliver an ornate chandelier. An encounter that stuck with them both, even more so with Jacob because of the sting of presumed rejection he felt when Greta rushed away without giving him any hope for the future.
The chemistry between these two as they work alongside each other is just THROUGH THE ROOF and nearly palpable to the reader. Ms. Marie is incredibly gifted at bringing you into the scenes with them and making you feel their tension and longing. Her sensory details are on point and absolutely perfect.
For me, even more than their growth as a couple, seeing Greta grow into herself and her identity was a beautiful and charming trip to take with the characters.
Fairy Tale Lies is a salacious and endearing contemporary romance that you'll easily devour.
After I received my copy of Fairy Tales Lies, I settled down one lazy afternoon with a glass of wine and started reading. Three hours and a bottle of wine later, I lifted my head and sighed with longing. Greta was the type of woman I could never relate too. She's frustratingly classy, formal and elegant. Jacob was...an effing GOD. Greta drove me crazy. Jacob made me hungry. Greta tugged at my heart strings. Jacob tugged at other things. Greta was bred to follow traditions, Jacob stepped into her life and trashed her perfect elegance, leaving it on the floor with her fancy clothes. I love the fact that DK switched the predictable roles of what most romance novels are today. This wasn't about some other arrogant billionaire that the poor girl fell in love with. Greta was the one with all the power while Jacob had to fight for it.
With Jacob still fresh on my mind, I went to find my husband. As he started to reap the benefits of lust that DK Marie incited of me, I did the one thing that can kill a mood faster than a toddler pounding on the bedroom door. I accidentally, but poetically, and oh, so tragically, called my husband Jacob. I didn't even realize that I did it—until AFTER I did it. I don't know who was more surprised. Him or me. It's not like his name was even close to Jacob's, so I couldn't play it off either. "Who is Jacob?" he snarled at me. With my widened eyes and beet-red face, I tried to do damage control. He didn't believe me. I showed him the book, he still didn't believe me. So, long story short, the mood was killed and he didn't talk to me for two days. But after that, he was unusual touchy-feely. He told me he was going to erase Jacob from my mind. Between you and me...he didn't.
Thank you DK Marie for introducing me to Jacob and I'll totally fight Greta for him!
This is a very good contemporary romance between Greta, a graduate student from a wealthy family, and Jacob, a self-made businessman with a blue collar background.
While desperately attracted to each other, they both carry the baggage of trust issues from their past. They decide to try spending enjoying each other's company casually, but struggle mightily keeping it that way.
Where the book seems to begin these characters with differences of social rank - the real challenges between them are much more about the disparate ways they deal with problems. The scorching passion between them comes through as clearly on the page as their internal misery and self-doubt. Of course, passion between them isn't one of their problems.
From a readers point of view, I enjoyed the realism of this relationship. For example, while they are both very likable characters, sometimes each of them acts in ways that are obnoxious, unfair, or irrational. That's real life. You don't always say the right thing in the right moment, and impulsive or irrational responses can be a part of genuine behavior. We're also all carrying along the baggage of our past experiences along with us into new relationships and friendships, and it's nice seeing the reality of that conditioning being addressed.
You should definitely read this if you like a modern romance which is strongly focused on the characters, their personalities, struggles and growth.
I received an advance review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
First: Wow! I loved this book! This is my kind of story. DK Marie brings it all, the romance, the steam, the hot male MC that captured my heart. Most importantly, I love the heroine. I empathize with Greta’s lack of sophistication, and enjoyed taking the journey with her as she grows into a woman I admire.
The chemistry Greta and Jacob share is hot and fun from the minute they meet, and is peppered with all the obstacles a relationship between an upper class woman and a blue collar man are likely to present. DK handles this with skill and great dialog, and avoids the pitfalls of stereotypes. The characters are compelling, you not only believe this fairy tale, you want it to be in it.
There is a great cast of supporting characters. I especially liked the siblings of both the main characters. They provide balance, both to the story, and for their love-struck sibs. Greta’s disapproving Mother is a chilling character and I disliked her as much as I was supposed to.
I also want to thank the author for choosing Detroit as the backdrop of her novel. It was nice to read positive things about my hometown.
Overall, a great read. If you love romance done right, I highly recommend Fairy Tale Lies. I am looking very forward to the second book in the Opposites Attract series.
Greta and Jacob meet one rainy day when he comes to work at her wealthy parents home. An unlikely pair, a blue collar man and this woman raised in privilege, but their chemistry is undeniable. They both succumb to their lust on a stormy afternoon.
They meet again one day when that steamy afternoon comes back to haunt them when Jacob becomes one of Greta’s father’s clients. They try to keep things professional, but their feelings for each other are too hard to deny.
Add in a snobby mother and stepfather, and a horrible douchebag ex-finance that are trying to ensure their relationship fails at all costs, and the fact her father is not only Greta’s boss, but Jacob is his client and you have a recipe for some great emotional tension.
Both have some intense fears. Jacob can’t help but feel that he can never fit into Greta’s wealthy world. And Greta needs to learn to grow up, and separate herself from her overbearing family. I loved watching her grow and evolve into a strong, independent woman.
This is a dynamite debut story full of heart, laughter, love, steam and DK Marie’s eloquent, amazing prose. Such a talented writer and we are bound to see great things from her. Amazing job, I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
If you like imperfect, rounded characters; if you enjoy off-the-charts chemistry between the MCs; if you like a taste of wildfire from the get-go, you’ll want to check out this book.
Fairy Tale Lies follows Greta and Jacob, two people from very different worlds, as they negotiate their differences *and* their similarities. I’m not kidding about the chemistry; it’s what kept me going through the stretches where this book almost lost me. Yes, there were stretches. I was annoyed—at him, at her, at the universe they lived in...
...but then I got to the climax and realised, oh, DK Marie, you clever, clever writer. I won’t spoil it, but let’s say she took me on a journey, uncomfortable at times and rather real in parts. These aren’t sugar-coated, star-crossed lovers. And even with a romance ending, this ain’t no fairy tale. If you love a good angsty romance, you’ll want to check out this book.
Love this story. The best part was the real problems that they had to face that threatened everything. I love a good love story with funny characters. Very heartfelt. I don't want to give away any spoilers but I really loved what happened when we let ourselves be vulnerable. These lovebirds came from different walks and struggled trying to make the pieces fit. This beautiful story is so real u can see it in your mind as you flip through pages. You'll forget your reading and join them as they try to make it work.
I really enjoyed Fairy Tale Lies. Though Romance is pretty far outside the genre I typically write and read in, I follow DK on social media and wanted to give it a shot. I loved DK Marie’s characters here. The dichotomy of their backgrounds worked perfectly to add some conflict to the story and keep me turning the pages to see how it would all turn out. Both of the main characters, Greta and Jacob, were very relatable and easy to invest in. She also builds great chemistry with the pair. If you’re into Romance, give it a shot. It was a fun read.
If you want an addictive, delightful romance that bubbles like champagne, read this book. It's simultaneously steamy and sweet, following the romance of two stubborn yet lovable characters you want to both shake sense into and hug. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series!
DK Marie is a writer I stalk…I mean…follow online. I really enjoy her steamy poetry and snippets from her DK Masquerade, a series of flash fiction she is writing about a woman on the run from an abusive husband. Her character Liberty travels all around the world, seeking to find herself, and finds love along the way. Meanwhile, her Contemporary Romance, Fairy Tale Lies, was released in June. This is the first book in her Opposites Attract Series published by Champagne Book Group. http://champagnebooks.com/store/sec-c... I have to admit, this was a tough review to write. I enjoyed her book immensely, but Contemporary Romance is not a genre I am normally drawn to. I’m used to writing and reading Romantic Suspense, Fantasy and Horror. When it came time to review it, I’m definitely worried about spoilers.
Is it okay to say the sex was hot?
It’s okay to give away that they had sex, right?
Lots of it…it was pretty steamy.
Did I mention they had sex…?
There were lots of other things as well, but I decided in the end to just have fun with it.
In this particular tale, the opposites are a couple from different socio-economic backgrounds. Timid, high-society Greta and sexy blue-collar business man Jacob have what they think is a one-time fling. When they are thrown together again, neither can ignore the spark between them. Greta is determined not to mix business and pleasure, but she finds that sexy Jacob is very persuasive. As Shakespeare once said in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, “the course of true love never did run smooth.” So it will not for Greta and Jacob, as they encounter not only Greta’s family’s displeasure over the match, but each of the character’s own insecurities as they move forward.
Setting
Fairy Tale Lies is set near Detroit. I have never been to Detroit (or Michigan for that matter). I have read a lot about its music and maritime history, but I decided to do a little more research for this blog post. I was aware Detroit took a huge hit economically in the last downturn, as did most of US manufacturing. According to its most recent State of the Region Economic Outlook Report (2018-2019), it is rebounding by attracting new start-ups from cities where the cost of living has become prohibitive to business (areas like Seattle, Atlanta, and Silicone Valley). It is re shaping itself to be the up-and coming modern city for millennials. DK’s story (and really her Opposites series) uses the backdrop of a city renewing and rising up, with self-starting characters from a multitude of backgrounds.
To read the Michigan Economic Outlook Report, you can find it here:
My husband and I can relate quite a bit to DK’s theme. I started my career non-traditionally as a Naval Electrician’s Mate. My husband started out as a welder. We both went on to eventually get degrees in Electrical Engineering and Welding, Corrosion and Non-Destructive Testing (respectively). There is an incredible amount of bias in our society towards going to college and getting a degree while painting these “blue-collar” jobs as somehow inferior. To be frank, the only reason I got my degree was my medical condition meant I could no longer be an electrician. Yet my time as an electrician is what makes me such a successful electrical engineer. My husband got his degree because he was interested in corrosion and ultrasonic testing, and he is considered to be a global expert on NDT and corrosion.
All you have to do is Google “dating down” and here is what pops up:
There is a bias that a college education is somehow higher than a trade job. In these articles women who have a degree but don’t date other men with degrees are “dating down.” Fewer and fewer men are graduating from college, where more women are graduating with degrees. As we have seen in recent years, a degree doesn’t even necessarily guarantee a good job. It also comes down to what type of degree you get (that’s a whole other blog article right there).
Yet some of the most successful entrepreneurs of our time dropped out of college. Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg are a few. **Ironically, good luck trying to get a job without a degree at Microsoft, Apple or Facebook.
Characters
Jacob
One of my biggest pet peeves in the Romance Genre is the rise of the “Alpha-Male.” Or as I like to call it, the incredible D-bag. So many authors try to sell you on the dangerous, bad-boy with a past that the female main character is going to change with her magical vagina. DK doesn’t try to make us swallow that tired pill.
Instead, DK shows us a self-made, blue-collar business man who’s good with his hands, and has a natural talent for fixing things. His dialog and responses to Greta and other characters are realistic. His insecurities and changes he undergoes throughout the story are in-line with what DK has shown us as a character. While he is definitely sexy as hell, he’s just an average guy just a trying to get his dream of expanding his business, Rework, off the ground. He’s finally found the financial backing to do so. Too bad it just happens to be with the company that Greta’s father owns. Jacob also has a “past” but he’s determined not to let it get in the way of his future.
Greta
Okay, confession time. I wanted to slap the hell out of Greta for 80% of the story. While sweet, she is possibly one of the most spineless, insecure female characters I have ever read—and it is fantastic. DK creates a woman approaching her late-twenties who is so stifled by her parents (particularly her narcissistic, smothering mother’s) behaviors and expectations she can barely breathe. She is the Queen of Non-confrontation, and this will drive a wedge between her and Jacob. I’m surprised she had the guts to dump the fiancée her mother loved (even though her cheated on her). I’m even surprised she decides to date Jacob. Greta’s character is well written in this story and really relatable (even though she drove me nuts). I wanted to scream at her to stand up for herself. While the other characters evolve and change, I felt Greta’s change was the most well-written and believable. She doesn’t go from spineless to ball-buster, but after all of the mental and emotional abuse she’s been handed, she does become a more independent woman by the end of the story.
One thing I do have to mention…
Yes—it is poor professionalism to make out with a guy at work who is also a client. The fact that she lets her father lecture her about this really galled me. She worried constantly about what he would think of her professionalism, then did it anyway (which I was like—woo hoo! Way to put on your big girl panties!). If you’re that worried about it, find an office door with a lock, don’t kiss the guy in a room where EVERYONE and ANYONE can walk in at any time (which of course, all the people she doesn’t want to find out about Jacob walk in and tell daddy).
But when she got caught, she really ought to lecture her father about sexual harassment in the work place and how her ex-fiancee, a senior employee, is making up IT issues and stalking her at work in order to hound her into coming back to him. The fact that all of her co-workers see this an NO ONE calls this out to HR or the boss is hideous. Everywhere I’ve ever worked that’s considered harassment. Granted, the one who has to report it is Greta, and we’ve already established (at least at the beginning of the story) that she just won’t stand up for herself, but I really wanted her to call him out. Okay—rant over.
Supporting Characters
At the risk of spoilers (not only for this book, but the rest of her series), I will keep this brief and avoid revealing names for those who haven’t read the books, as DK does reveals and giveaways. DK provides a great cast of supporting characters. Greta’s narcissistic, snobbish mother is a piece of work. I wanted to see this woman just humiliated, even destroyed. We’re friends with several horror writers—I want to collaborate on a crossover and write a gruesome death for this woman. Preferably strangled by her pearls or stabbed to death with one of her Louboutin’s.
Greta’s sister is more than she appears, having learned to deal with their mother in a different way than Greta. I actually found her to be one of the more intriguing side characters, even more intriguing than Greta. I would love to see her become a main character in another book.
Greta’s ex-fiancée is a well depicted antagonist. One thing I am surprised about is that he didn’t make another appearance at toward the end of the book. I didn’t expect him to give up after the 4th of July incident (avoiding spoilers here). He is the epitome of rich, frat-boy snob. He reminded me a lot of the fiancée from Wedding Crashers. He’s another character for whom I want to see a horrific, humiliating end—hey maybe with Greta’s mother since she loves him so much!
Jacob’s brother is another fun character who I would love to see more of. His dialog with his brother is realistic and yet heartfelt. I would love to see more interactions with the two brothers (in another book maybe? Once again, please tell me he gets his own story).
Another pair of side characters I would love to see more from were Greta’s college neighbors. Their love story would make a great prequel/fun short story or novella.
This novel was a fun read. I went through the entire gamut of emotions, which meant DK got me really invested in her characters. I wanted to slap Greta, I wanted to both shake and well, uh…do other things to Jacob. I wanted to tell Greta’s mother to go ----- herself with a rake. The wide end.
I cried during the New Year’s Day scene, that was really intense. I will have to let you as readers find out for yourselves as to why.
If you like Contemporary Romance with believable characters that draw you in and wring emotion from you, then you will really love DK’s style of Romance. And I mentioned the sex, right? If you want to find out how steamy it was, I’ll give you a tiny tease from my favorite part: “He turned her, placing her hands on the still-warm leather seat. The position had her bent, with his front against her back. He trailed his hands along her arms, down her sides to her thighs. Once there, he slowly bundled her skirts in his fists.”
Marie, DK. Fairy Tale Lies (Opposites Attract Book 1) . Champagne Book Group. Kindle Edition.
Greta is astonished when she attends a meeting being held to introduce an important new client and it turns out to be Jacob – with whom she had a brief afternoon fling but was still vivid in her memories. Neither Greta nor Jacob want to make waves professionally, but can they sort out their complicated personal feelings?
I found this steamy and sensual full length novel was surprising and engrossing. I thoroughly enjoyed the authors’ tone and writing style and found it both modern and easy to read, quickly finding myself deeply curious about how Greta and Jacob could resolve their history and build a solid base to begin their relationship again. Each had incorrect, pre-conceived notions about the other and it was amusing to watch them both have to adjust their snap judgments of the other and pretty much start from the beginning again.
The romance moved quite slowly and I both enjoyed this and found it difficult. I love a story where I can really get to know the characters first, understand their motivations and reasons, plus it’s always lovely to see them interact together without all the drama and extra complexities that romance always brings. But since Greta and Jacob had already been intimate in the past it felt a little stilted to me how they tried to wind their relationship backwards and be platonic together, just colleagues and pretend their memories and intimacy didn’t exist. It felt weird and a little unrealistic to me, so in that sense the slowness of the pace of their romance just never gelled or worked properly for me.
I found the intimate scenes between Greta and Jacob to be steamy and well-written, they were descriptive and passionate, but not over the top or too provocative. I thought the author did a good job showing the complexities of Greta and Jacob’s relationship. Each of them had sensible reasons behind their actions but – particularly in the beginning – neither were very good at expressing or conveying themselves to the other. I was a little disappointed that they both tended to make assumptions and react without clearly understanding where the other was coming from – that felt a bit silly to me, personally. But I was pleased particularly once they both began to see the other wasn’t as bad as they had originally assumed they both tried hard to communicate better and understand what was really happening.
For the most part I thoroughly enjoyed this steamy and fun romance, finding the winding and complicated road Greta and Jacob traveled together to be interesting and a great read. There were a few clichés – Greta’s ex and the smarmy co-worker who wanted to get in her pants both felt a little like plot-devices to ramp up the competitiveness and tension – but I have to admit they worked a treat to make the story feel more complicated. I enjoyed watching both Greta and Jacob have to work to mend and then build their relationship and blips on the path are a part of what life’s all about.
With modern and interesting characters, a good cast of strong secondary characters and plenty of twists and turns I found this to be a fun and interesting read.
I just loved it! The storyline, the writing, the characters. Now and then, I read about someone that is following me and loves to read about new authors. DK will have you turning the pages for more, from chapter one. How two people from a different world or should I say society. The rich girl that always follows orders from her high society mother, Greta, never wanting to be in her mother's matchmaking. Greta did want to follow her mother's rules any longer. But when Greta's mom told her she had to be at her house for special delivery, she hadn't expected a hunk of a guy on the other side of the door. Greta never expected sparks to fly as she caught a little eye candy at the door. Two people couldn't be that opposite from each other, yet, when they touched Jacob Grimm, never felt this much attraction about a woman. Beautiful, sexy and with a wicked sense of humour. He wanted to know more about her. But from their first encounter, the sex was unbelievable that attraction was there, but he knew he would never see her again until one day fate brought them together again.
Could their summer fling last, or will their world collide in the presence of high society, could they but their difference apart and accept who they are and fight for each other? Thank you, DK, for an amazing story. I'm not saying anything, but you had me till the very end of this one: great work and a fantastic story.
Detroit - so close to Canada and I must say I've never been but I have been to Dearborn Michigan where the people are friendly and kind.
A good first book in what's going to be a great series in my opinion!! D.K. Marie gives us a wonderfully original version of opposites who are so attracted to each other their electric attraction sizzles off the pages... it starts off like any good fairy tale, a dark storm approaches and two unlikely lovers are so drawn to each other they succumb to their mutual lust one afternoon, until that lust comes back to bite them when Jacob is Greta's father's newest client one that she will have to work closely with... what is the worst that could happen!! A fabulous story of lust, love & loyalty. I cant wait to see what's next!
Great book! I'm not typically a reader of romance books but I am when it comes to Fairy Take Lies. This books keeps me wanting to turn the next page. D.K. makes reading romance spicy and entertaining. My husband is reading it now too, and let's just say things are hotter in our bedroom as well! 😉🔥🔥🔥
2.75- it was cute and even had some steam!! but reading the same issues over and over got repetitive. also i believe the resolution from the third act was way too quick, it felt like whiplash

This is the first book in a new series, and is Jacob and Greta’s story. Jacob has worked hard in order to have his dream career, and works with Greta on a job for her father, but they had met previously. Can they ignore the undeniable attraction between them though? This is a well written story which is humorous, entertaining and steamy. I was intrigued and hooked throughout and recommend for all.
This is a well written opposites attract romance with strong characters in Greta and Jacob. The author brings a ton of steam along with their social struggles. She does a great job building their story and painting her scenes. The story moves fluidly and is a great read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
I received an advance review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
DK Marie’s first book in the Opposites Attract series left me breathless for sure. This was my first foray into the romance genre, and after reading Fairy Tale Lies, I’ll be coming back for more. Greta and Jacob, are a magnetic, if unlikely pairing. Greta’s down-to-earth chic and Jacob’s working-man sizzle combine to form a cauldron of steaming romance you won’t want to miss. The couple’s path arcs and twists with the challenges of family, especially Greta’s spiteful, deliberate Mother.
DK’s skillful dialogue and lovely imagery add a tapestry of layers to this realistic Fairy Tale, and her supporting cast gives this book great dimension and fun.
If you’re looking for a hot-as-hell summer read, this is it! Fairy Tale Lies is a steamy, sultry ride into the lives, love and lies of Jacob and Greta. I’ll be highly recommending this to friends-- and to anyone who wants to bask in the heat of this wonderful debut novel.
Can’t wait to see what new fireworks are next from the talented DK Marie! ~e
This was so much fun! Nice and steamy (but just the right amount), but sexy in a realistic way. The opposites attract theme was extremely well done and the overall story was contemporary and expertly crafted. This was the perfect read and I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
I received an advanced copy the of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a perfect blend of heat, humor and heart, and heat.... Did I mention the heat? Hot damn! Greta and Jacob are fire together. I loved Jacob and I miss him now that the story is over. I loved watching his heart open up as Greta crash landed deep within it. I loved watching Greta discover and grow into herself. Super fun to read and can't wait to see more by this author.
I love stories like this , where the two meet and hook up then part ways only for fate to bring them together again. But then her being from the upper class and him being a working man making his way with a career he has bled for. Greta needs to grow up and decide if her love for Jacob is strong enough to get past her parents and the social society she grew up in.
I’d tell myself one last chapter, but kept on reading. An absolute page-turner, with great humor, and the perfect title to keep one second-guessing. The characters are brilliant, and they made me fall in love with reading all over again. Pure delight!
Fairy Tale Lies is a peek into a budding romance between an unlikely couple drawn together despite significant obstacles. Greta is from wealth; Jacob is from the proverbial wrong side of the tracks. For fans of the bad boy trope, he's got the leather, tats, and motorcycle to boot. Oh, and he works with his hands - in more ways than one ;-)
There are serious issues keeping them apart, but serious connection drawing them together. The cycle of their relationship - a myriad of ups and downs - felt real. Their desperation to make it work felt real. Add serious steam and the backdrop of beautiful Michigan and you've got a great, contemporary non-fairy tale that still satisfies.
What a pleasant surprise this book had turned out to be.
If you like well written romance with a good story line and interesting characters then you need to look no further. DK Marie does everything right in her debut novel, Fairy Tale Lies. Having recently started reading romance this book would have been enough to get anyone addicted to the genre.
Filled with sexy people, relatable relationships, and real world connection her narrative never slips, when the steam is turned up the sex scenes are enough to leave a body aching for relief.
There was a moment when I had first started reading this book that I realized that this was as refreshing to me as my favorite television program, there was no effort absorbing the situation as the chapters opened up before my eyes, when an introduction was made I felt as though I have known the person already. It was just a pure joy to be living in the moment of this romantic adventure.
I’m giving Fairy Tale Lies 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stars as well as it’s author DK Marie.
Highly recommend this book to anyone not afraid of a little heat, but desires to be left a little bothered and craving more. A debut novel from an amazing woman, poet, and writer who has a voice and is not afraid to use it. I loved it!
Greta and Jacob meet randomly when he delivers a chandelier to her mother's home, and their chemistry is so potent, that they can't help themselves but to indulge in a steamy hookup. However, while the hookup is HOT HOT HOT, it doesn't end well when Greta's stepfather comes home early, so she panics & shoves him out the door, making him feel very dirty, and that's that, or so they thought. Fate intervenes, and they come face to face again when he ends up at her father's company, and they're tasked to working together. Greta panics, thinking that it would blow up in their faces, but they talk & clear the air. But, and this is a big BUT, their chemistry is still strong, and won't be denied, so it's not long before they're setting the sheets on fire again. And it's not long before they're catching feelings. And you already know, since she's a princess, and he's blue collared even with his company & nice bank account, there will be big drama with them being together.
