It would seem life has finally settled down for Jack Gold. China is making progress toward opening up economically and providing a path for upward mobility for its citizens. Jack and Jojo are expecting a baby and Jack is looking forward to settling into life as a husband and soon-to-be father. But when Wang Yang requests a meeting with him, Jack agrees to go—you don’t say no to the President of China.
China desperately needs to re-brand itself and Wang wants Jack’s help. But if Jack is to do this properly, he will need to travel to each of China’s twenty-one provinces, meet the governors and secretaries, and help develop a custom plan that will allow the country of over a billion to thrive economically.
It’s a tall order, but Jack has a proven track record. To give up now would be to stop just shy of the finish line, and that is simply not the type of person he is. Yet with a child on the way, Jack knows he’s walking a tightrope between his loyalty to his family and his desire to see China liberate itself from its limited ways of thinking. And there are certain people, in powerful positions, who will stop at nothing to derail Jack’s latest efforts, including the deployment of artificial intelligence, which can wreak havoc in a myriad of ways. Jack once again finds himself in a dangerous and volatile situation that could put everything he has worked for—and everyone he loves—in jeopardy.

THIS IS ALL ABOUT EATING —ALL THE TIME. EAT, EAT, EAT !!!!
AND EAT !!!
“…Jojo and Mary looked at each other, seemed to be communicating something without using words, and burst out laughing. ‘Let’s eat,’ Jojo said. Ari sat down and began serving himself with gusto. Jack took some of the lamb ribs, mash and a portion of the salad. It was nice to have a plate of such delectable food in front of him that he hadn’t cooked himself….”
“…He let out a little groan. ‘Oh my god, this food is so good.’”
I HATE THIS FOKKING BOOK!! HATE IT !!!!
I started skipping pages, and then entire sections —it did NOT seem to make any difference to the moronic story !!!!
SKIP, SKIP, SKIPPITY-SKIP !!!
NOTHING BUT a “feel-good” stomp—not a “romp,” but a “STOMP!” On yer brain.
“… ‘What’s next?’ Jack said. ‘We’re going to have a baby here soon. I expect there’s a lot of sleepless nights and diaper changes in my future. Honestly, I’m looking forward to slowing down and spending as much time with Jojo and our baby as possible.’”
Oh, PUH-LEEZE!!!
I may throw up.
After I take a SIP, a SHOWER, COFFEE and CHEW a croissant, which seem to be among the main elements of this travesty of an alleged, unlikely, improbable, contrived, predictable, wind-‘er-up-boys-and-let-‘er-wind-right-on-out-one-way-only “plot” !!!!! . .
A completely satisfying novel – Read now, as China and US relations are in focus!
Texas author Jack Good earned his degrees in business administration and in East Asia Studies from the University of Chicago as well as his BA form University of California, Berkeley and worked in the People’s Republic of China, garnering information about Chinese political, social, and cultural issues. His experience is evident in his series of novels, THE CHINA AFFAIRS, of which THE PROBABILITY OF SUCCESS is the third volume.
Rarely has an author been able to compose a novel about China with the insights and direct observations Good provides. The story is an action packed thriller, the writing is razor sharp, and the characters and situations encountered by the primary person Jack Gold become cinematically visual. ‘It would seem life has finally settled down for Jack Gold. China is making progress toward opening up economically and providing a path for upward mobility for its citizens. For complete satisfaction, read this fine series form Book 1, but Good fills in the blanks in this novel so that it can be read as a standalone. For every reader who enjoys immersion in rapid paced action thrillers, this book will satisfy – not only as entertainment, but also as an opportunity to review China’s position in the world – especially now as the US and China relations are in the spotlight! Very highly recommended.

The probability of success is the third delivery of the China Affairs Series, a series that I'm a fan of. The story of Jack is extremely interesting and shows how much the author loves and knows the country. A great third book, and ready for the fourth!
“The Probability of Success” is the third book in the China Affairs series by author Brad Good, which tells different stages in the life of Jack Gold, an American living in China who is recruited for altered political tasks in each volume. Within this one, Jack finds himself at the crossroads between protecting his beloved ones and staying loyal to his task of transforming China and the lives of its citizens. This is a really interesting international plot, where use of artificial intelligence is the subject but also where the feelings and experiences of the main character are catching. Furthermore, the author adroitly combines the mystery of a political fiction with the suspense and mind-bending of a thriller.
I think that each book that follows in the series is better than the previous one, and this third installment deserves 5 stars. Books 1 and 2 were good but they lacked the special touch that this definitely has. Following his style based on cultural and political data, the author managed to write a plot that closes on all sides. When everything finally seems to be fine for Jack Gold and he is expecting a child, he receives a new mission that will endanger his family life for which he worked so hard. The story engaged me and I honestly enjoyed it. I can't wait to read the last book in this fascinating series.
This middle length story is the third part in this completely engaging series I am glad to have found. The Probability of Success by Brad Good gives a good twist to the story. Characters seem to be even stronger in this volume. Their dialogues are believable and engaging. I am already eager to read volume four in the China affairs series. The story is totally exciting. It is an excellent thriller that I am sure many will enjoy. I recommend this book! But it would be great to previously read the other two.
The Probability of Success is the third book in THE CHINA AFFAIRS series written by Brad Good. The author has great talent for writing and creating stories! This series captivated me from the very beginning. I liked seeing the main character grow and change from book 1 to book 3. The plot was very well developed in this middle length story. The narrative develops at a fast pace which I enjoyed greatly. There is always something happening and I read most of the book at the edge of my seat. A must read!
I enjoyed the clean romance between Jojo and Jack. Also, tough times choosing to stay the course with tough communication. The drama between those who favored change and those desperate to keep things the same was described well. The introduction of artificial intelligence was thought provoking. I highly recommend this series.
“The Probability of Success” is the third book in the series “THE CHINA AFFAIRS” written by Brad Good. It is a novel with strong political, cultural and social content about contemporary China and its international relations. The well-known character of Jack Gold, a controversial journalist who has infiltrated the control center of China, finally manages to stabilize and begin to pay more attention to his personal life. This third part of the story releases a bit of the tension that it had been building up but still keeps the reader alert. I really like this series more and more, I enjoyed it a lot and I look forward to the next installment that will be the expected ending.
