This purpose driven career transition guide is for people in leadership, consulting, change programs, and freelancers or contractors working within organisations. Explore a wide range of perspectives on this journey to take charge of your career and your why, lead change, and gain skills and momentum to sustain the impact you want to create.
Theme 1 - The Planetary Dimension
“Whether you believe that God made the earth in 6 days and rested on the 7th, or you avidly follow the geological and astronomical records, you would have realised our lives are miracles. The number of things that needed to come together perfectly for us to not only exist, but to be sentient, thinking, creative and innovative beings is a gift we’ve been given. Long may we be able to use that gift in the pursuit of our own longevity as a species, and in the new versions we will create of our world to come.
Theme 2 - The Socio - Economic DimensionMany are on a mission to accumulate wealth because they can. A bigger home, a swimming pool, private jet rentals, or to pass those privileges on to their children. Except that gig is up. The more we do that the less likely our children have a future. It’s cognitive dissonance at its extreme. To enjoy the fruits of our labour, we need more people to prosper. Yet, how we measure prosperity also needs a new story. We have long used GDP as a measure for how we create opportunity and demonstrate growth, but today we have a mandate for a new metric, wellbeing.
Theme 3 - Governing the System
At the time of writing, many long-established democracies are battling through leadership and governance struggles. The US, the UK, and France to name a few. Without systems of governance, development slows, or reverses altogether. In this theme, we consider what is needed to make change happen, and then make it count. We look at systems of governance to support a 1.5-degree Celsius warmed earth. The themes within The Aligned Mission concept will become integral to the way you make decisions if you let it. Leverage this learning for the greater good.
Part 1 - Your Environment and You - Your pathway to self-masteryWe know it theoretically, but often we don’t live in the knowledge that the change, and the growth we seek must start with ourselves. If you reflect on the best leaders you’ve experienced in your lifetime, there are likely common themes that appeal to you. Whether it be strength, conviction, calm, anticipation, persuasion, confidence, openness or vulnerability, Self-Mastery is the journey that helps most leaders deliver on their potential. Whether you think you want to be a leader or not, your personal achievements in life align to your leadership ability, even in the context of leading yourself. This is where our journey begins.
Part 2 - Social, Credible, Responsible - How to become an advocate for change. This section takes us from an intense focus on self in part 1, to reflecting that version of self in the context of others and what you have to offer the world. The actions needed from this section are more social and brand based, with a heavy dose of authenticity, ethics, and responsibility on top. As we move increasingly virtual and integrate the metaverse into our day to day, a brand identity goes a long way for memorability and networking.
Part 3 - Jump, But Know How to LandFor some, this is where the career strategy begins. There’s no denying that starting a new job is fundamental and needs a strategy.
