As the 90's come to an end and we enter the 2000's, the drama in New Orleans is at an all time high for the Martelle family and friends. With tragedy bring everyone closer or pull this close knit family apart? Find out in the second installment of this three part series.
This just might be my favorite book of 2022 so far!!! Ms. Cion Lee hopped all the way in her bag with this one! Definitely a story that I didn't even know I needed. I loved loved loved catching up with the family and also having a lot of questions answered. I promise Keemaya has to be my favorite character of all time, hands down! She is a scene stealer and a boss b word! I cheer for her so hard! I'm so happy I got more of Big Zooley! And I still cried even though I already knew what happened to Justin. This was just an amazing installment of an amazing series!!! I wont even say I can't wait for the next one because I already know it will be worth the wait...I'll just say I'm excited to see where else goes down! Amazing story! Definitely reread worthy!
Part 3 me NOW !! How is it whenever I’m done with a Cion book I only wanna read more Cion. This author continues to push herself and her own each release it’s amazing to witness. Congratulations on another heavy hitter for the real ones.
I just love these characters so much. The second I read that they were playing Tha Crossroads by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony at Justin’s wake, I lost it. I was bawling the whole funeral. Cion sent him off well. But man everything, and I do mean everything, went left after Justin was killed. The dynamic amongst everyone not even the same no more. It’s like everybody hurting and taking it out on/blaming each other so there’s this weird energy lingering. And I have forever been Team Justin so I don’t like what’s going on with Nesha and Zoo at all. I get the history but considering everything she and Justin went through, it’s throwing me off and it almost seem like the narrative being pushed is Nesha and Zoo were always meant to be and now that Justin is gone they can do them. That’s foul especially after Janis revealed their dirt at Justin’s funeral. It’s like he gone and can’t defend himself and his character was shit on giving Nesha ammunition to move funny. I don’t like that. I know Jordan and Jamal not gonna be fucking with it but she probably won’t care because her relationship with them or Josie hasn’t been the same since the funeral either. Jamal and Keemaya know they a mess. They’re the Miriam-Webster definition of ghetto struggle love but I love them anyhow. I’m hurt asf for Blaire and Neffie. I’m hoping for a miracle for them for real. And then there’s Canary and Jordan ughhhhh- I’m excited to start Part 3. My crew need some closure.

Book 2 really took me through it. I can’t say enough how much I love this author’s writing style! Much props to her for keeping this world straight, from the first book of the That’s all me world. I really wasn’t hurt that bad about Justin, I feel like I knew it was coming so I was trying to harden my heart and not get attached to that character. And you know what Big Zooley helped me with that. I was team him from the start. I really felt like Justin went after Jenesha because he saw her with Zooley. Now what devastated me was Chloe. Cause why did you do that to me, I was so hurt for Keemaya and Red. Also what happened to Banga and his family, like I couldn’t take it. I was so glad I waited until the series was complete to read it.
This was soooooo good. I can’t wait until part 3 because I have questions: From the series with the younger generation I already know that Jordan and Canary get back together and also Jamal and Keemya but I want to know how it happened exactly. What was the story? From that series we also learn that Jenesha is technically still single but have been know to mention going a date so therefore not being able to babysit grandkids and whatnot- my question is, Is it Zooley Sr that she’s dating? If not him then who?

From reading about the kids in the previous books we already know what happened but to actually see how everything went down was heartbreaking. I really feel like I lost family members. I literally felt sorrow 😔😫. All I kept saying while reading is “WHY”. Ego and Pride in a man can be such a downfall. Sometimes it’s okay to just walk away. Now your kids growing up without you because of the selfish decisions you made smh. So much happened in this book. A lot had transpired and it was a lot of transitions.
Wheewww!!!! This was so good but it was also heart-wrenching to see how everything and everybody turned out. Tryna see how the last book going to turn out.
Cion really did her thang with this one! And even though you read all her books to know about Justin’s fate, it’s still super sad to see how it all unfolded. But i am team Zooley! And at the end, he handled Jenesha tenderly, so I hope that their fate will bring them back together. Jamal was wrong & I’m glad that Keemaya was able to bounce back and step on business for her and her kids! Lol @ the Jay-Z scene! I can not wait to see how this series end, highly recommend you get into this one!
This story is riveting, heartwrenching, and even though we know what is about to happen, the storyline still feels fresh. Nesha and Zooley need to get themselves together. I love how Keemaya flipped the switch on Jamal's stubborn, crazy self. Don't get me started on Jordan and Ms. Canary because they're walking zombies. The 3rd and final installment can't come quick enough!
I’m mad that not only did s some fuck shit get revealed to Jenesha at her and Justin’s wedding. Something even worse came to light at his funeral. I get why she feels his family betrayed her.
One tag. Got to say about Zooley Sr. He’s a stand up guy when it comes to his son’s siblings. Zora has a trailer load of kids for other men but he takes care of them bc his son stays with them.
This book right here had me all in my feelings. Even though we all knew about Justin the way Cion details it your heart breaks. This book had me in tears multiple times and I couldn’t sleep without finishing it. Jordan is still my favorite character followed by Zooley Sr. Cion your pen game is the truth girl. Can’t wait for part 3.
OMG I knew that Justin would die from previous books but reading it in real time. I shed a thug tear. Why why why Cion. He deserved to see his baby girl. Oh and he left with some secrets and ion blame Jenesha for being mad. I don't agree with keeping the kids away from their family though. I'm so surprised and how everything went left after Justin passed. Ready for part 3.
I’ve Been A Fan Of Cions Work From Wayyyy Back When In Book One. Her writing has always been top tier but this series is on a whole different level. The way this book has so many different characters and yet I still didn’t feel like I was missing anything while reading. She covered everything. I love every moment of this book!
Omg!!!! I went through so many emotions. I cried like a newborn when Justin died. I felt the hurt and pain when Blaire accidentally shot the little girl. Cion Lee is a phenomenal author and storyteller. I can't wait for the final book to the series. I know it's going to be a nail biter.
Great read!!!!! It is awesome watching the growth of the characters. There is sooooo much love in this bunch and I could not put the series down. It's definitely like watching a movie. The New Orleans flavor and culture were spot. This author can do no wrong and keeps blessing us with her hometown stories that keep you wanting more.
Let me Start by saying I love Cion Lee style of writing..It literally morphs me back to coming of age in the early 90's. This series is everything..Definitely emotions was high..The laughs was loud..I highly recommend reading all her books! A+ Status Great pen
Justin, Bri, Chloe and her babies dying had me sad. I like Zooley and hopefully if Nesha get it together they can be together and give him his daughter. Keemaya is making it on her on an Jamal can't stand it. I wish Canary and Jordan get that old thing back.
Part two was definitely the best book so far!!! Reading about Justin In real time was devastating 🥺🥺🥺🥺 its crazy how every event him and Nesha had was in some way ruined by another woman. Poor Josie everyone stayed mad at her!
I love reading all these series, and how you made a series for each couple and still combined everybody else in it also… I can’t wait for the 3rd installment..
