A missing person. A forbidden love affair. The tragic death of a young girl.
When Jake Travis’s sister asks Jake to locate her missing son, Evan, Jake seizes upon finding Evan as a chance to break the family curse. His sister was kidnapped herself when they were children, an event that shattered Jake’s concept of family.
Meanwhile, the police ask Jake for assistance in looking into the death of a young girl who was fatally shot while swinging in a park. He meets with the girl’s father and is crushed with the man’s sadness. The fracture of another family. Jake soon discovers a disturbing link between the random killing and his missing nephew.
As he frantically searches for Evan, Jake tumbles upon a forbidden love affair. It explodes into a dangerous struggle, as money and power battle love and family. Families with unpardonable sins. Who will do anything to protect their own. Families, who like Jake, seek redemption. The Easy Way Out is a gripping story in which transgression and forgiveness, tragedy and humor, walk hand in hand.
Robert Lane is the author of the critically acclaimed Jake Travis novels. His debut novel, "The Second Letter" was the Independent Book Publishers Association 2015 Gold Medal Winner for Best New Voice: Fiction.
Florida Weekly states: “Jake Travis is one of the best leading men to take the thriller-fiction stage in recent years. Lane has created a winning hero who is super-skilled, super-fit, oddly bookish, and funny as a stiletto. Lane mixes confidence and doubt, steadiness and recklessness, and toughness and sensitivity in engaging proportions.”
Foreword Clarion Reviews adds: "Lane’s writing is sharp, evocative, and gripping. Travis distinguishes himself from other dynamic PI’s in the genre via his pure zest for life which is often presented with a sensual edge.”

A world where kidnapping, the killing of an innocent child, he knows first hand. The working of these cases and knowing the heartbreak it does on families. A missing nephew, and the connection to the ones earlier are they connected. A good series, with another another good adventure, as he finds the pieces. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
You know how in high school your English Lit teachers always told you to give Shakespeare time, he would grow on you? Well, that's my feeling about Mr. Lane. When I read my first Jake Travis book I wasn't impressed because even though I loved the story, I felt Mr. Lane used 12 words when 3 would do just as well. I am now several books into the Travis series and I have to admit, those teachers were right. I now find Mr. Lane's writing style to be descriptive, emotive, and compelling. Yes, he still uses a ton of words but his stories are so worth it. Be prepared for this story. It grabs the reader's throat with the first few lines and then by the 2nd chapter the flow has slowed down and lulled you into a false sense of calm. Then it jerks your chain again and (as the old saying goes) it's off to the races. This is one more excellent thrill ride. There are car chases, shoot 'em ups, beat 'em ups, and anything else a good thriller should have. But on the opposite side of that coin, is the steadying effect of Jake's home life and the loyalty of his friends and his loyalty to them. His family and friends are his rock and they keep him on course. Oh, and don't be surprised if the book makes you cry. I highly recommend this series and if you have the same experience I did when I read my first Jake Travis book, please don't give up. Give it time to grow on you or you're going to really miss out. I received a review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
The latest fast paced, action packed, wise cracking Jake Travis novel did not disappoint, as usual. Lane’s use of quick banter and clever mystery kept me enthralled and putting the puzzle together until the bitter end. The supporting characters were all in attendance and the writing flowed effortlessly (ha! I can say that as the reader..) to bring about a complete story. Do not miss this one! *I received an arc from the author for an honest review
Jake Travis is always a favorite. My thanks to the Robert Lane for including me in his advanced reader’s circle. As usual, he delivers a well plotted mystery involving the usual cast of characters. Kathleen is getting more forward; Jake is mellowing; baby Joy is settling into the St. Pete Beach lifestyle. All's right with the world! Well, except for Kathleen, who is pining for another miracle to drop into their lap. Jake’s latest mission is to find the missing son of Brittany, his sister who also went missing at a young age and has only recently resurfaced. While Jake brings in all his cronies to help find Evan we learn the backstory of Garrett’s life, further knitting together the continuing saga of Jake and friends.
Thanks for the preview of the book! I dropped everything else when it came across my desk--glad I did!
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC copy of the new Robert Lane book starring Jake Travis. This book is fast paced and attention getting. Multiple story lines begin and are completely tied up in the conclusion. If you enjoy engaging characters with some inner depth to them coupled with lots of action this is the book for you. I highly recommend this book as well as Mr Lane’s other books starring Jake Travis.
Jake Travis is caught in the cross fires of two ruthless men.
Jake’s nephew is missing and his sister wants Jake to find him. This brings him into the fight for a drug cartels leadership. The man who is the leader now verses the man he had been training for years, but got greedy and doesn’t want to wait. The man wanting to take over is a cold blooded killer. The one wanting out has changed and now only wants to protect his daughters from being raped and killed.
I wasn't sure how to rate this book. I really liked the story but admit to regularly getting confused with all the different characters. Maybe this isn't a problem if you have read previous books by the author. I enjoy this style of writing, which has some humour thrown in. I will go back to earlier books by the author and hope that I can figure out where everyone fits.
Got into this series a while back and recommended it to a couple of friends. Jake Travis is an interesting character but this books seems disjointed and almost like a collection of incomplete thoughts. I really liked the early part of this series and don't usually write reviews but as the title of this says, was pretty disappointed by this effort. Sorry, Robert.
Jake Travis's sister asked him to locate her son Evan. The police do not take his missing seriously. A young girl is swinging and is hit with a bullet and is dead. Jake is asked to help find out who shoot her. A page turning thriller with a heart pounding conclusion.
Plus: Lane's unswerving attention to his plot. This one's a good one. Minus: prose sometimes too precious. Almost off-putting. Also female characters are pretty much one-dimensional--well, maybe two.
Once again Jake is on the job. Jake’s sister’s son is kidnapped. Lots of action, suspense and more to keep you intrigued. Will he solve the case on time. If anyone can do it, it’s Jake I can’t wait for the next book.
