A covenant is a bond. A promise. A token of abiding love. Promises ground us. With every promise comes stability and beauty. Every kept vow gives courage and hope. In Promises Kept , passionate and gifted Bible teacher Courtney Reissig takes students through five Old Testament covenants—promises—with the goal of seeing God’s beautiful storyline. What are the purposes of God’s covenants and how do they inform and transform the way we live? During these six weeks, we discover the meaning of God’s Covenant with Adam, Abraham, the Exodus and Passover, the Mosaic Covenant, God’s Covenant with David, and the New Covenant Promised. Participants see God’s purposes for His people, their place in His purposes, and how the entire Bible fits together. Additionally, we will see how Jesus fulfills God’s loving covenants. Each day of homework can be completed in 20–30 minutes, with rest days included. In the process of this study, readers learn and employ an interpretive observe, interpret, and apply. This simple yet indispensable tool is a gift that will equip and bless all further Bible study. As we dive into God’s precious promises to the people He loves, we’ll find our hearts strengthened and encouraged to face our days with greater love and courage.

We see God’s plan throughout the Bible, how they all fit together, and how Jesus fulfilled them. I loved the way Courtney Reissing guided me through each covenant to study, interpret, and apply the Scriptures. Seeing each promise and God’s plan of redemption woven throughout, I am encouraged by his faithfulness and great love. His promises kept give peace and hope today and each day before me.

It might have been me... the content and the readings and the memory verses were great. The questions were weird and confusing. But overall a good study of covenants.
Each and every title in the Moody Bible Studies for Women has been a special blessing for me in one way or another, and the newest addition to the series is no exception. “Promises Kept: 5 Old Testament Covenants and How Christ Fulfilled Them” by Courtney Reissig takes us deep into the Old Testament as we unpack what the far-reaching word ‘covenant’ really means, and how it applies to the promises God made to His children.
While “Promises Kept” follows the same basic outline as all the Moody Bible Studies (5 days of study per week for 6 weeks), it is also a little different in the study approach. First, we read the same text from Scripture every day during the week’s lesson, and work on memorizing a portion of it as well. We also answer questions about our daily reading, but Courtney really challenges us to think and ponder for ourselves - she does not provide much commentary at all, we are on our own to figure out what our takeaway about each covenant really is. Sometimes this felt a bit overwhelming, but then I realized that she was not spoon feeding me the answers - it was up to me to think, research, cross-reference, and pray about the content - all for my own good, and to deepen my understanding of the Word. It wasn’t easy, but it was powerful!
So my concluding remarks about “Promises Kept” would be, basically, that it is a challenge but so worth it. This deep dive into the Old Testament, to witness how it relates to the New Testament and to us, is life-changing, really. So if you are up for a journey that will take time, effort, and prayer, but lead you to a place of better understanding God’s Word and His ways, this is definitely the next Bible study you should pick up.
