Rebecca Elliott is the author and illustrator of the best-selling Owl Diaries series (Scholastic US) & over 20 picture books including Just Because, Sometimes, Naked Trevor and Zoo Girl, for which she was nominated for the 2012 Kate Greenaway Medal. Her new series The Unicorn Diaries (Scholastic US) & her first YA novel 'Pretty Funny ' (Penguin Random House) are out now.
Eva's class is split into two groups to come up with Nature Day clubs. The two clubs will compete to see who can make a bigger difference in helping the planet. Eva ends up being in a separate group from her two besties, and in her group there is Sue. Both Sue and Eva think they'd make great group leaders. Sue is also grumpy and maybe even seems a little sad. Will their team be able to work together to win the comptetition?
I like how Eva gets to know other friends because she's in a group without the comfort of her two besties. I also like how she problem solves things with Sue so they can eventually work together.
Eva and her class are split into two groups to form clubs for Nature Day. They are competing to come up with the best projects for Nature Day. Eva is bummed that she doesn't end up in the same club as her BFFs, but she enjoys helping with the projects that will help the Earth.
I like that being away from her friends helps Eva get to know others in her class she doesn't normally hang out with and learn that they are pretty cool too. The projects are cute little eco-friendly activities. Sure to be another winner with Eva's fans.
It teaches you how to protect our beautiful earth. Like planting trees, flowers, and plants. It also teaches you how to recycle plastic, like bottles and other things like that. It shows how you can work together as a big team and not just separate teams like what Mrs. Featherbottom assigned Eva and Sue in and all the other classmates. In the end each team helped one another. But Sue wanted her team to win. After, Sue was surprised by everyone's good sportsmanship.
Clearly neither the author nor the editor read this book aloud before it was printed. You can't put the words "Sue aside" next to each other. 🤦🏼♀️ Choose different words!
The plot was okay, Eva learned there are lots of nice owls in her class when she worked in a group without her BFFs. The recycling and helping the planet stuff wasn't over the top and in your face, so it was okay.
