I really wanted to love and value this text. However, there is a chapter about HIV/AIDS, and one about bacteria that completely fly in the face of science. The lab values are great, but some of the references are over 30 years old. I have the 7th edition, so perhaps this edition is the only one? This was required reading for my midwifery program. I am grateful for the resource to tell me which tests to order and when, but all of the old/misinformation is not something I can get past. HIV/AIDS is real, and bacteria/viruses DO cause illness. If you've done a simple microbiology project growing bacteria in the fridge, you know that perhaps something that grows like that could cause illness. The section on disease in pregnancy will be a great resource for midwives outside north America, however, for those in the US/Canada may never see the majority of these illnesses.
