Superman Vs. Lobo

Rate this book
It’s the Man of Steel against the Main Man in an over-the-top superhuman clash!

What happens when an indomitable force meets an irritating object? That’s what you’ll find out when Superman runs into Lobo. Think of it like a boy scout joining a biker gang. What will be worse, the damage Lobo causes on his own, or the chaos of trying to stop him? I smell a team-up, fanboys!

Numen is the most popular being in the universe, a god clogging all social channels. And he does not like competition. This means Superman and Lobo must go. Further complicating things is Dr. Flik, a scientist determined to study the last sons of Krypton and Czarnia respectively. What can she glean from the hero who lost everything as a baby and the bad, bad boy who made it all go away just for the heck of it? And what will happen when Superman and Lobo wake up on their respective resurrected home planets?

From writers Tim Seeley and Sarah Beattie, the team behind the indie hit Money Shot , and Punchline artist Mirka Andolfo comes a hilarious new DC Black Label superhero epic!

I am so disappointed in this book. From the cover, I was expecting a knockout dragout fight between these two. Not them duelling over the internet trying to cancel each other. No!! #cancelculturegonemad.

I did not particularly like the artwork of this book. The story is just weird at best, but (in my opinion) complete nonsense. Towards the end, Lois Lane completely summed up my opinion of the book

"I know bad writing."

I don't know if this is the writer saying this was not his vision for this book, but then why write it this way?

Superman is loved. Lobo is hated. That is the way of the universe, but Lobo is sick of it. What lengths will Lobo go to do this?

My last rant about this book is that this is supposed to be a black label book. This was more like a bad Saturday morning cartoon than a black label. They did not even have the swearing. The only thing I did like was the joke about not swearing around Superman. The book finishes with a varient cover gallery.

Oh dang, that was bad.
I don't know a Black Label comic with Lobo and Superman but Lobo can't even swear? The two don't even fight enough to be interesting. All the Lobo sex is implied and he is covered even when he is complaining about being disturbed in bed with a lady. It is just a team up book, we have done Superman and Lobo team ups that had better fights.
What a waste of a potential in comics.

Superman vs. Lobo

Czarnian bounty hunter Lobo crosses swords with Superman, in the process saving an extra dimensional entity, who rewards both men by recreating the list worlds of their birth. However, a slight error sees Krypton's last son stranded on Czarnia while the Main Man ends up in Krypton.

Seeley and Beattie's book is a great read. The humour is crude and in your face, but on point and in keeping with the plot. The action sequences are well designed and drawn with careful detail. There are some serious aspects, such as the spread of online misinformation and conspiracy, as well as the poignancy of the isolation expressed by Superman as he tries to explain why Lobo should be more compassionate.

I like Lobo; he’s like a way better version of Deadpool IMO.

Putting him against the Man of Steel is a no-brainer. An anti-hero that is the antithesis of Superman in almost every conceivable way makes for fun comic book fodder.

However, this story is insanely convoluted and doesn’t really take the tone of the stakes very seriously except one section with Dr Flick where it’s overly serious.

Superman also comes off as a pussy in this story. He’s not Lobo and doesn’t go to Lobo’s level in a fight but when he gets his hackles up he’s still a dangerous force that’s intimidating and we never get to see that.

There are also tons of missed opportunities for plot lines that go nowhere or nowhere interesting. In this story Lobo wants to be recognized as great and smart; which he actually is, but it doesn’t ever go that deep; it’s mostly played as a gag.

Dr Flick wants to bang Lobo in the worst way, but we don’t get a really good reason other than he’s the ultimate “bad boy”. It could have been an opportunity to show that she sees his greatness (literally because she’s a time-traveler or some such nonsense).

For this being a under the DC Black Label series it was an incredibly mediocre story with illustrations that were not up to snuff for this story. I don’t wanna bag on an illustrator, because I get how hard it is, but this artist was just not the right choice.

Lastly for the title being “Superman vs Lobo”; there is hardly a throw down between the two. It’s actually pretty unmemorable so I doubt it was a scuffle. They spend their time fighting other things. Boo!!!

Not much of an action story, but like most Lobo and Superman stories it’s funny, whacky, and generally a good time. Lots of meta commentary on idealism, social media culture, and a few deserved pokes at edgy fanboys, as well as on very current topics and figures with Luthor and his app being a riff on Elon Musk from the get go.
It’s very much an on the nose tale that combines social commentary and an interesting, zany plot to great effect. I never felt bored.

The art is good. Not my favorite style personally but it’s very bright and saturated and pops out from the page.

POPKULTUROWY KOCIOŁEK: Miniseria (trzy zeszyty) autorstwa duetu Tim Seeley i Sarah Beattie stawia na bardzo wyrazisty kontrast dwóch dobrze znanych postaci. Idealistycznego Supermana i bezwzględnego Lobo.

Wtórne i miejscami nudne.

Raz trafisz bank, a raz kupę.

It's 2024 and I can firmly say that 2022 is 'early 2020s'. I like this story as a social document of the zeitgeist, that is to say, it tries to be very 'now' (of 2022).

In issue 1 there's a nice address of the evil impacts of social media and even in the age of social media where everyone has a voice, paragons like Superman don't really exist. Even when they are real. People challenge him on all fronts and the real power comes from influencers, even the morally grey or ambivalent ones, like Lobo.

In part 2, Numen a tartigrade extra galactic creature as a thank you to Lobo and Superman deliver them to their restored homeworlds (being last sons of those worlds) but he sends them to the wrong world. Interesting impacts they both have.

As for issue 3: I didn't expect *that* ending. A nice read overall. I haven't read any superman comics before I don't think This is interesting.

Oof, this was bad. The writers behind Money Shot try to go humorous in this series and it just falls completely flat. Lobo starts a #cancelculture war with Superman because he's jealous. I'm not sure why this was Black Label either. There is no cursing. It's written for a thirteen year old boy. Finishing this was tedious. It's real bad. Even Mirka Andolfo's art wasn't very good and the coloring was very splotchy. Just an all around fail.

I got this because I'd heard that Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Stargate: Atlantis, Aquaman) was going to play Lobo but I didn't know anything about Lobo. So, I got this graphic novel from the library. Never liked Superman so no real interest in him, just Lobo. Lobo is... or at least he comes across to me as a parody of a comic book character, cartoonish, bizarre, not interesting, just off-putting. I recommend this GN if you want to learn about Lobo or like Superman but otherwise, don't bother. And no, I didn't finish reading it, gave up after about a dozen pages or so.

the art was great at least

Mirka Andolfo’s art is always beautiful to behold. Tim Seeley’s writing is usually great too. I don’t know what went wrong in this book, but boy was it a slog to get through. Every page seemed to try to be edgier than the last, and there wasn’t any room for any actual plot progression or character development. For an M rated book, there wasn’t really any spectacular gore or even much profanity. It felt more like T plus, if anything.
I give it two stars only for the artwork, I would give the book a hard pass

Not sure why this is a DC black label book other than some "butt stuff" happenings/mentions. There's no swearing but there is a funny part where Lobo tries to swear around Superman and it just comes out like ordinary comic symbols "^%#!" The story is all over the place and the art is sort of child-like/simple. A hard read with those two things combined

This doesn't start too bad but after the first issue it quickly goes downhill into a mess of a story...
The art won't be for everyone and that together with a mediocre story, means this isn't worth your time.

I really enjoyed this. I bought a shelf's worth of graphic novel ebooks that were on sale. I want to read more Superman comics. If you have any Superman recommendations I'll consider reading them, or DC recommendations in general if not.

This almost never happens with me, especially when it comes to reading Superman comics, but I skimmed through *a lot* of this comic

I'm a huge Tim Seeley fan and Superman is one of my top 2 cape heroes, so I didn't see this coming lol

The story was very confusing after the first issue. A shame, because the start was promising, thanks to certain themes such as critique of social media and information in general. The artwork is amazing in my opinion.
