Collects Avengers (2012) #35-44 and New Avengers (2013) #24-33.
Jonathan Hickman's acclaimed run reaches its epic conclusion as time runs out for the Avengers - and the world! For Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the Illuminati, it's all been building to this. One by one, the realities of the Multiverse have collided and been destroyed, leaving the Marvel Universe as one of the last dimensions standing. Now the saga jumps forward eight months to the day of the Final Incursion! After the revelation of the Illuminati's desperate, world-shattering actions, the Avengers are fragmented. While one group seeks out the Illuminati for a confrontation, another takes the fight to the vicious new Cabal! But what has become of Tony Stark and Doctor Strange? Will all the battles they've endured - and all the sacrifices they've made - prepare the Avengers for the inevitable end of everything.

My Hickman Avengers reading is done and my consensus: phenomenal. I don't even like reading Avengers comics, I'm more of a Fantastic Four/X-Men fan but this story was amazing. Everything fits into its place with the ending of his run, and it makes for a very satisfying conclusion where you can see everything that's been built up come to fruition. The fact it leads to my favorite event is just icing on the cake. All the players feel like they belong there, and Hickman definitely knows how to write the many characters. A badass run.
Just an absolute blast, packed with epic ideas that really have some scope to them Admittedly found myself lost a bit as it stretched out into the most abstract of cosmic dimensions, but basically loved everything about this Some phenomenal artwork throughout, and that ending is so bleak
I enjoyed this volume overall, and there were definitely some very fun aspects to it. That said, this book clearly feels like a “let’s get the ball rolling, no more setup, let’s get to the event” moment. The time jump from the previous volume to this one was a bit jarring. It felt like a lot was missing, and in truth, it was. So much happens off the page that if this is the only series you are reading, it can be confusing. The commitment required just to understand what occurred between volumes is pretty significant. Putting that aside, this volume very much serves as a wrap up of certain storylines while positioning all the pieces for the upcoming Secret Wars event. There is a heavy amount of exposition and explanation focused on what is happening and why it is happening at this point. My favorite parts easily involved Doom and Molecule Man, as their storyline was consistently engaging. Hickman has an excellent voice for Doom, and those moments were always a highlight. The tension between Captain America and Iron Man felt somewhat like a retread of earlier storylines, though that conflict does seem inevitable for these characters. The art was fine overall, with some sections standing out more than others, and its quality really depended on whether the focus was on the Avengers or the New Avengers portions of the volume. I do recommend this book, but mainly as the conclusion of Hickman’s Avengers run and the starting point for the Secret Wars event. As a standalone volume, it would be very difficult to fully understand what is going on. Grade: B-

I loved that this collection included stories from across the Marvel Universe. Appearances from the X-Men, Fantastic Four, The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and even individual heroes I don’t hear much about such as Captain Britain. Overall, a very good book, I was just hoping for a major climactic moment (which I guess did happen with a certain intergalactic battle). I was more so hoping to see the incursion tale place, but that’s where Secret Wars comes in. This novel definitely helped expand on some knowledge around the multiverse, incursions, and the various players in the multiverse.
You can't really go wrong with a ton of great big superhero fun, and I love how in love Hickman is with Sunspot. The only thing keeping this from being five-stars is the severe lack of an ending as this leads directly into Secret Wars, which is a great book in its own right, but probably could have been included in this collection to give the overall arc more impact for the reader.
A bunch of ideas coming together, and unfortunately I just couldn't follow what was going on half the time. When it makes sense it's great, but also a frustrating read. ★★★★☆☆☆
