Broeinest

Ruim een jaar na het overlijden van haar hoogbejaarde moeder krijgt Renate plotseling een mail van haar oudste broer Rinus, die vraagt of de uitkering van de erfenis kan worden herzien. Renate weigert.

Dit bericht zet meteen de toon voor de aanstaande familiereünie, waarin Renate, Rinus, hun zus Roos en hun broer Ruud, allen de 65 gepasseerd, een beerput aan oude familieruzies, nare herinneringen en wederzijdse verwijten opentrekken.

Voor Renate komen de naweeën van haar jeugd in alle hevigheid terug. Ze komt alleen te staan. Het leven in dit beklemmende naoorlogse gezin heeft ook bij haar broers en zus de nodige sporen nagelaten. Waarom lukt het de een wel om het tij te keren, terwijl de ander verstrikt blijft in hulpeloos zelfbeklag?

Ik vond Zadelpijn ooit echt leuk, maar wat een geneuzel is dit. Veel te expliciet met houterige dialogen. Jammer!
Maar meningen verschillen. Misschien vind jij ‘Weekendje Weg’ en ‘Vijf jaar later’ wel helemaal niks.

In het begin zit je in een gemakkelijk lezend verrassend familieverhaal dat je tot doorlezen aanzet. Maar dat helaas gaandeweg minder vlot leest en clichématig eindigt. Jammer!

Een verrassend verhaal met pijnlijke bekentenissen. Je begrijpt de pijn van Renate in het begin. Totdat je de verhalen van Rinus, Ruud en Roos leest. Boeiend tot het eind.

More than a year after the death of her elderly mother, Renate receives an email from her eldest brother Rinus, who asks her whether the inheritance payment can be revised. Renate refuses. This refusal sets the tone for the upcoming family reunion. Renate, Rinus, Roos and Ruud are all over 65. During the reunion, a cesspool of old family quarrels, unpleasant memories and mutual reproaches is opened. For Renate, the unpleasant memories of her youth come back in full force. She ends up alone. Life in an oppressive post-war family has also left its marks on her brothers and sister. I thought the premise of the book was interesting but the execution was not so great. At first it is an easy-to-read family story chronicle that encourages you to keep reading. Gradually it becomes boring, monotonous, reads less smoothly and the story ends in a cliché. The dialogues are stiff and feel unnatural. The characters showed no development and are generally unpleasant. 2,5 out of 5,0 for this one.
