The Shadow Enforcer #5

The Shadow Curse

Rate this book
There are no such things as curses… only ancient monsters and their twisted games.

Ever since Damian Blake discovered that Koschei is after him, he has spent countless hours searching for a way to kill the nefarious monster. But no matter what he does and how deep he digs, he finds nothing but more questions. So, when the Alpha of the local pack asks him for help with a group of rogue vampires, he takes the case, hoping to take his mind off the fruitless search… for a few hours at least…

Except… what Damian thought would be a simple vampire hunt soon turned into a blood-curdling nightmare—the kind of nightmare he can’t wake up from. Within a few hours, all his friends and allies are under deadly attack, fighting for their lives. The storm of magical mayhem is raging over the city, putting innocent people in harm’s way. And it doesn’t take him long to figure out who’s stirring the pot, puppeteering the lethal monsters.

The situation grows darker and deadlier by the minute. The lives of the people he loves hang in the balance. And to make things worse, his superiors order him to sit tight and do nothing. But doing nothing isn't an option for Damian. Not when good people are getting hurt. This time, however, to defeat his enemy once and for all, he must put everything on the line, including his life and freedom…

But you know what they say… Desperate times call for desperate measures.

If you like fast-paced, action-packed Urban Fantasy novels with dynamic characters, intense action, and breathtaking suspense, then you'll love this edge-of-your-seat series with a touch of Slavic mythology.

The action immediately picked up from the ending of book 4, it felt like Deathly Hallows Part 2. So much more action, so much more twists and turns, definitely another winner in this awesome series! Keeps you glued and your interest piqued with every chapter!!

Damian Blake, with the help of his brother, Cole Adams, is once again battling monsters, prophecies, and curses. This time, however, things take a turn for the worse. Help is difficult to come by, and the enemy is always at least ten steps ahead. The people he loves are attacked, and Damian doesn’t know if he can save them. Maybe this time, he has to sacrifice it all.
Thorn makes brilliant work of Slavic mythology as a framework for her tales with gods, powerful entities, otherworldly beings, demons, and vampires, creating a world so rich and evocative, you’d be forgiven for going in search of Damian to join his band of intrepid warriors.
I have been a fan of the Shadow Enforcer Series from the very beginning, and this latest installment doesn’t disappoint. Everything is here. The complex characters, the world building, the attention to detail — it’s all woven into the story in abundance.
Damian’s relationship with his brother is also explored further, and we find out there may be even more to them than previously thought. I know, what a shock, right? The layers of the characters and events are as ever multifaceted and seemingly endless.
As a Shadow Enforcer for the Destiny Council, Damian shouldn’t be able to forge close relations and friendships, but of course, he’s much more complicated than that and continuously defies all expectations and presumptions of his character. No one is more surprised than Damian himself, but no matter how hard he tries, he can’t help but attract, deserve, and invite others into his life. They need him, and, albeit reluctantly, he sorely needs them too.
The story hooked me from the first page and wouldn’t let go until I’d read the last word. As always, it left me wanting more, but this time, Thorn has been particularly sneaky, and I now have the mother of all book hangovers. I need the next one yesterday!

Another Masterpiece by N. M. Thorn!

If you haven’t already read the first four books of The Shadow Enforcer Series by N.M. Thorn, you really do need to pause for a moment and reconsider your life choices!

The Shadow Curse is the fifth, and one of the most entertaining, installments in an already amazing Urban Fantasy series. When the people and beings that Damien Blake and Cole Adams love and cherish most in life are struck down by seemingly deadly and un breakable curses, they must come together as only these two brothers can to figure who is attacking them, and how they can be stopped.

If they are to have even a chance to succeed, they will have break every rule, disobey direct orders, and go to places and worlds that neither Destiny Enforcers or vampires should ever consider going to.

Thorn is an absolute master at weaving in ancient Slavic myths, real life places and cultures, and her immense imagination into breath-taking tales of suspense and relentless action. With every new book, she finds new ways to make immortal and seemingly all-powerful characters as vulnerable and believable as your neighbors and friends, all while balancing the fate of the world on the bravery that her heroes exhibit, and the choices they make.

This books continues and enhances her well-earned reputation as a master storyteller! Definitely a five-star read!

Every time NM Thorn publishes a book, I wonder if it will live up to my expectations. I have been a fan since she published her first one a couple of years ago, and waited for each new release, wondering if it will live up to its predecessor. The Shadow Curse earns its place and supersedes Thorn’s previous work.

Damian’s biggest fear is the loss of his loved ones. We have seen this fear manifested through his memories of people he lost in his long past. In this book, we see his fear unfold as several of his closest friends hover over death thanks to the demon Koschei. Koschei is a worthy adversary as he knows Damian’s weak spots and does not hesitate to exploit them. He manages to stay one step ahead of Damian’s search to find and destroy him.

Another plot of the story addresses Cole and Damian’s relationship and their origins. Thorn hints there is more to their background than meets the eye.

We know that the Destiny Council knows more than they let on, and I can’t wait to learn more about it in the next sequel!.

Like all the other books in the Shadow Enforcer series, the Shadow curse is unrelenting in its capacity to draw you in hook, like, and sinker. If you thought the two brothers couldn’t go through much worse, you are sorely mistaken. This book grabs you from the first page and spits you up, chewed and all, at the end. It’s one heck of a rollercoaster, but I didn’t expect anything else from N.M. Thorn. I, for one, cannot wait for the next instalment

More trials for Damian and Cole

Once again, Damian finds his family and friends in jeopardy. The magic and the battles and the mystery were fun to read and the next book can't be released soon enough.
