For better or for worse, the newest changeling has arrived . . .
When Thea Kanelos’s best friend drags her to an art gala (that’s definitely not her thing), she doesn’t expect a chance encounter with Devin Grayson to change her life forever. The handsome stranger isn’t just anyone―he’s a powerful fae, charged with bringing Thea into his world.
Believing that she’s always been human, Thea must accept that everything she’s known about herself up until now has been a lie. She’s not human at all. She is a fae―funny, because she doesn’t even believe in faeries.
But with strange creatures now visible on the street and fangs and colors flashing in the shadows, it can’t be faeries are real. And with the Winter Solstice approaching, a magnificent ball will bring her fully into the fae world and draw her closer to Devin with whom she has a deepening and dangerous attraction.
As her new powers awaken, Thea learns she plays a more pivotal role to the fae than she ever imagined. And when the barrier between the human and the fae worlds begins to crack, it will be up to her to save not just herself, but everyone she loves from a terrible fate.
Deeply sensual and darkly magical, Dirty Lying Faeries is the first book in an exciting new series that takes readers inside a universe filled with faeries, dragons and werewolves―and those that love them.
Sabrina Blackburry is the author of the Enchanted Fates series, which includes Dirty Lying Faeries and Dirty Lying Dragons. She has a love for morally gray characters, fated love with a touch of magic, and passionate women finding their place in the world. When she’s not writing, Sabrina enjoys adding plants to the collection on her front porch, sewing for the local renaissance festival, and hiking. She lives and works with her family in central Missouri.
I am not even going to lie…it was the title that made me read this. (Yes, I am that person. No, I do not apologize.)
I’m happy to report that the book is as much fun as the title implies. This a fabulous read of fae, humans, betrayal, lust, magic and danger! What more does a reader need?
The characters were fabulously fun, the romance was scorching, and the plot was full of intrigue.
I am notorious among my reader friends for my dislike (okay, hate) of fairies lol. And I simply loved this.
Dirty Lying Faeries was awesome!!! I loved this new spin about the Fae! I'm always looking for new writers and I came across this book on Netgalley and after seeing the cool cover and reading the blurb decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. Thea is a great character and her love of history and her personality pull you right in and the chemistry between her and the handsome Devin fae lord of the winter court is smouldering hot. From the beginning he is attracted to Thea and he mistakenly thinks she's the new changeling to be brought over to the fae court and on the night of Thea's crossover they find out that she is Devin's fated mate. Theirs some steam but on the light side, but what their is is good. Theirs a lot going on in this book with someone in the fae court killing and poisoning other fae and Thea and Devin and others are trying to find out who before theirs a war between fae and changelings. I loved all the different characters and even the villain was quite interesting. Sabrina Blackburry is a great storyteller and a pretty damn good writer as well. I can never get enough stories about the world of the fae. Until next time Luv's💞💋

Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book.
As much as I wanted to love this book, and as promising as the beginning was, this was ultimately a disappointment.
The beginning of the book held promise. I was intrigued by the thought of changelings, which aren’t brought up in newer fairy books often. And the vibes reminded me of a hybrid Twilight meets ACOTAR, so I thought it could be a fun read. There were so many things thrown into the beginning that I was excited to see where they went.
And this is where the problems began for me. Much of what was introduced in the beginning of the book wasn’t executed well. While interesting concepts and ploys were written, they were either abandoned or easily solved, which left little tension and excitement in the pages that followed.
For instance, the beginning of the book introduced a big mystery with two parts: one was why the main character was changed, and the second was did it need to happen? And despite sending the main character in the hunt for answers, searching for answers was pointless because other characters told the main character what she needed to know. One character even says that the main character was taking too long so they would just tell her - why even bother having the main character try to solve the mystery at all only for the answer to be handed to her?
Other issues like this made it hard for me to want to continue the book. The introduction of “mates” really left a bad taste in my mouth. I know there are readers who eat this plot device up, but for me it could have added such a depth to the story to explore this. First the main character was changed against her will into a fairy and then she’s supposed to fall in love with a stranger!? And she’ll have to abandon the family that she loves and adores!?! Could have been very complex but instead the main character just accepts that this is her life and falls so easily into it. And her family is water under the bridge with no emotional repercussions for the main character. I hate it.
Speaking of, the main character is another Mary Sue who gets turned only to become so powerful and earns NOTHING. She is given everything in this story and it makes everything so dull and anticlimactic. Further, her powers made no sense to me. Mild spoiler, but she’s sorted into the Winter Court, and then given the power of lightning??? There’s no explanation to how powers are given or why, and other courts have powers that are similar to their courts (such as ice powers in winter, fire in summer, control of rain in spring, etc.). Her lightning power was useless and barely explored in the book, and then she’s given another power that is used on every page it seemed and turns her into a fae god. So I’m not sure why she was even given the first power to begin with, and it’s a strange one at that.
I also struggled with the writing. Towards the end of the book it looked as though the editing stopped or was skimmed over as there were so many structural and grammatical errors. The writing wasn’t my favorite throughout the book, but the ending seemed as though the author was just telling you thoughts from her head instead of painting a picture in the novel. It read very, “and then this happened, then this, and next came this.” It was so boring.
The big battle at the end was the worst one I have ever read. The main character isn’t really even involved in the battle and doesn’t do much aside from standing and observing. The villain had a good backstory and motivation and it was wasted on a silly battle.
Overall the characters were very flat and one dimensional. Everybody gets paired up and that’s not the kind of story I enjoy. I’m sure there will be readers who love this kind of cutesy, happily ever after style book, but I was not one of them.

Dirty Lying Faeries, a fantasy book, was a solid 4 star read. The book centers around main character Thea-a young woman who is suddenly thrusted into the world of the Fae and in the direct path of Devin, the handsome Lord of the Winter Court. I throughly enjoyed Dirty Lying Faeries-it was a fun read that was both entertaining and fast-paced. I also liked that it was told in multiple POVs (through both Thea and Devin), to make it a more enjoyable read. I enjoyed the vast amount of characters in this book and the romantic dynamics between Thea and Devin. Highly recommended to fans of fantasy books. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing me a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I remember reading this on Wattpad years ago and i loved it. To see that it's published makes me happy because it was a great book. I'm a huge fan of Fae. The biggest thing that really gets me immersed is the connection, i love Thea and Devin moments. As their chemistry builds sparks fly. Theirs two point of views, which i love because i feel like we know more from each party. This did give me A court of thrones a roses vibes.
This book was so cheesy. I think 2 stars is generous. If I hadn’t bought it, I may have DNF’d it. Problem 1. No palpable plot until you hit the 60% mark. You start to wonder why the heck you care and why you’re still reading this book. Problem 2. Powerful beings with zero background. Problem 3. Bad, poorly thought out and unexplained magic system with potential Superman level problems, there are no checks. Problem 4. The relationships in this book are so ridiculous; so unbelievable; and, so rushed that I started to hate the characters themselves for acting in completely incomprehensible ways that would never line up with what very little teeny tiny background we ARE given about them. Problem 5. The bad sex scene. Problem 6. Why are we in this day in age wasting so much time explaining why our heroines are not sluts, going so far as to inject the fact into the sex scene? Talk about regressive.
The dialogue was so extra special cheesy and repetitive. Think episodes 1-3 Anakin Skywalker.
I liked the adult changeling idea. The book started out strong with a nice, sound candy-type, easy Fangirl read vibe, and lost all of its steam with bad writing, poor pacing and the above-referenced problems.
Fox & Wit August adult pick! 3.5 ⭐️ rounded up…this was a fun story but nothing super unique or attention grabbing.
I liked that it drew heavily from traditional fae folklore, but the plot was pretty predictable. I also felt like it was a little silly for the humans to adjust so quickly to leaving their lives behind and becoming fae - not to mention how quickly they accepted their fated mates (who were complete strangers!)
This author is new to me and when I read the blurb and saw the amazing cover…yes I know, don’t judge a book by its cover..but I always do - I was intrigued❣️Knowing this book is releasing soon, I thought I’ll start and if it doesn’t capture my attention, I have a week or more to finish it🤔
Well, suffice to say I couldn’t put this book down. I had to go to lunch with my parents and I DID NOT WANT to put it down to go to leave☺️ I was enthralled and absolutely captivated by this world and especially Thea and Devin. I loved the mystery behind this world and the magic and I’m absolutely certain I’ve found another favourite paranormal author in Sabrina😍 I now eagerly await the next book and I hope we revisit with some of these characters again but if not, that’s okay too.
I received an advanced copy via Netgalley and voluntarily leave my honest review❤️
This was a fresh spin on a familiar concept. I loved the whole idea of adult changelings. I enjoyed the story as a whole but I do think with a little more development on each front (Romance and Fantasy) it could have really been a stunner. It was enough to build an entertaining tale but fell short of that wow factor. I liked the main characters fine enough but they were probably more on the bland side depth wise. I liked that Thea was very collected and not a total mess which I feel is common in this type of story but I would have liked a little more complexity to her. With Devin I liked that he wasn't a total alpha jerkface but I would have expected a little less puppy dog vibes from the king of a Fae court. Fated mates is not an unfamiliar trope and I'm not opposed to it at all, but there was really zero tension or build up here and that made it hard to truly get invested about the outcome.
The world building was pretty well done. I enjoyed that element best but in the end it did all feel a little rushed and you're left with a fair amount of questions. It felt a little heavier on the telling rather than the showing too which is a bit disappointing. The plot was good too, I like a good mystery unraveling and I rather enjoyed the battle at the end. I definitely got the feeling this could be the beginning of a series and if that's the case I would like to see how things develop as it goes.
I received an arc of this book from Wattpad Books via NetGalley and this is my honest review.
2.5. The beginning was good but half way through I found myself just not caring. I debated on DNFing but decided to just finish it. I prob won’t continue if it’s a series.
Thank you Netgalley and Wattpad for a free e-arc of this book in return for an honest review!
Genre: YA/Fantasy/Mystery Recommendation: BUY IT Would you read another book by this author? 100% YES Who might enjoy this book? Fans of The Prison Healer, ACOTAR, These Hollow Vows Review: How could anyone go past this cover and title? Without spoilers this IS what the story is mainly revolved around. Thea Kanelo is our main girl and she meets art gala owner Devin Grayson (que sexy fae God-but still glamoured at this point). He's gorgeous & mysterious - all the characteristics we love right?! Not long after their first meeting, she starts seeing people with strange....accessories? Horns/wings/different colour skin. What is even going on?? She gets a note from 'C" telling her not to trust anyone and from that point Thea is thrown into a world that was completely unknown to her. Fae/fated mates/four courts/danger/deceit/mystery/love/fae politics
Written in dual POV, the story was easy to read and hard to put down! I was completely hooked from the first chapter and ready to sell my soul for the rest of the book. Everything flowed seemlessly and left me wanting more. Thea is funny and very likeable, she's caring but she's also not someone to mess with. I love her growth throughout the book. but i do think she adapted a little too easily to fast paced changed to and around her. Devin is a puppy dog when it comes to Thea, he's charming and sweet and I loved their banter/chemistry and relationship growth.
Blackburry's writing has so much potential, I love the 'normal' and casual way Thea and Candice would interact, even Thea and Alan. The story was realty fast paced and there SO MUCH mystery! I LOVED the battle, it was really descriptive and a great way to end the story as most of the book is the lead up for the big twist. I really do think this could have been a duology, I was left wanting more world building though as it was hard to picture at times. I would've been happy for the relationship between Thea and Devin to have dragged a little longer also as it felts slightly rushed at times.
There were some amazing characters: Caroline, mysterious fae who we don't even know whether to trust or not for most of the book. Heather - LOVE LOVE Heather! Thea's most loyal friend. Alan - 'floor sign' IYKYK Devin - could do no wrong in my eyes
Overall, I really enjoyed it and wouldn't hesitate to buy another of Blackburry's books. this is her debut and i am so excited to see what she will release next!
This Fae romance had an interesting beginning. Unfortunately it felt like not very much was going on for the second half of the book and that sluggish pacing was a problem for me... this was almost a DNF a few times over. Nonetheless, I persevered and in the end it was just... Meh... with a capital M! The writing was a touch sophomoric. I was exasperated by how often the heat of their bond was mentioned and how childish our FMC, Thea, was especially towards her man. The characters were likeable but not loveable or remarkable. The characters were pretty bland to be honest and the romance was lacking depth and believability. The Sexytime bits were tempid (at best)... not a deal breaker per se but something of note. The premise of adult changelings was new, which was nice, but there were questions posed (especially in the beginning) that were left, completely forgotten, by the second half of the book. Then there was the dirty business of things coming too easily for our characters. Thea needs to learn how to glamor (and do it quickly)? POOF, she learns it within minutes of trying. Thea wants to learn of her special magical powers? POOF, she learns what it is with no trouble at all. When the characters get things easily with no effort at all they are robbed of the experience of working hard to achieve their goals and we are robbed of the experience of believing that they deserve those things and therefore robbed of the joy of each moment AND ultimately, by extension, the book.
Overall: This had promise and due to some clunky parts, sluggish pacing and bland characters this was extremely underwhelming. It had potential but ultimately failed to deliver. The fated mates is a common trope that is easy to botch and sadly this was one of those times. There was almost no romantic/sexual buildup, or tension... it was too insta lovey for my tastes... another strike. This story was more of a teller than a shower... another strike... and the end battle was the worst I have ever read in a loooong while.... another strike. Ultimately it left a slew of questions unanswered. A cliffhanger is not necessarily a horrible thing but here it irked and niggled. All of these things added up to me losing interest in the story so I will not be on the lookout for book #2.

UGH I'm disappointed by this. So I absolutely loved the second book in this series that I read when it was first published on wattpad. So I'm an OG reader and I was excited to learn that the series has been published.
But I had never even read this particular one on wattpad so I had no idea what to expect. And it was just bloody disappointing. The plot was great at the beginning but when everything came out, it was just so stupid and I hated it. I'm sorry but I hated it. ALSO the whole romance was lackluster and both Devin (MMC) and Thea (FMC) had no chemistry, they were just so bland and I didn't really like Devin at all.
And forget the FMC but I NEED to at least like the MMC and I just didn't. And it felt like by the end, Thea wasn't the main character, she didn't have main character energy. I HATED the whole plot twist of the evil antagonist character killing fae stillborns (ONE OF WHICH WAS DEVINS BABY) Like ewww. It made me so unnecessarily angry and I hated it. The baby was a product of a fling but disgusting. If its not with the FMC, I don't want it. 🙄
Anyways onto the next book, which is the one I read on wattpad initially and I loved it then, so let's see. 🤷🏻♀️
I feel like this was written on Wattpad or something and intended to be YA. I kept waiting for it to get more exciting and it didn't. It was really vanilla and I skimmed the last 50 pages. I was bored.
This story is truly one of a kind. I’m so so so happy I picked it up! Where to start? Okay….
The faeries in this story are unlike anything I’ve ever read. -Four courts, all with their own gate to keep hidden, and Lord or Lady. Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn. -Annual changeling, but not your average run-of-the-mill changeling. No, this is a grown adult human at least nineteen years of age, with little to no ties in the human world. So as not to disrupt the human realm. -I couldn’t pinpoint the exactly location, but it is in the human world! A city, to be exact. -Magic, so much magic!
Thea is an exceptional protagonist. She processes her thoughts and feelings rationally, but not at an annoyingly long rate. She’s kind and empathetic, especially as she navigates her new normal.
Devin reminded me of a dark romance male MC. Which was delicious, overprotective, and adoring! I loved his character, probably from the moment he’s introduced!
The supporting characters are all just great in their own way throughout the book. Everyone has a role, and they are great at it!
Blackburry did a fantastic job with this story. It was a perfect combination of light, dark, and intriguing! It is extremely fast paced, easy to devour, and did I mention, there are mates?
The vast amount of differing storylines that come with writing about the fae never ceases to both amaze and entertain me. Dirty Lying Faeries was an exceptional example of when it is done right. I loved the plot line in this novel. I was immediately drawn to Thea and her life. I found her to be extremely relatable and enjoyed her development throughout the story. Devin was the perfect tall dark and broody to her sunshine. Fated mates is always such a great hook and I really enjoyed the way that Devin handled it on his end. Heather was a peach and I loved her friendship with Thea and the way she had her back at every turn. I thought the pacing on this was solidly paced and I didn’t find myself loosing interest at any point. The world building was lovely, I love the idea of these slices of magic existing right under our noses. I especially likes the magic system. I always thoroughly enjoy magic systems that align with nature. I would absolutely recommend if you are a fan of Grump Sunshine, Fated Mates, or Chosen Ones. i might be secretly hoping that there is more to this story yet to come!
Thank you Netgalley for my copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I haven’t read fantasy in a while and was really looking forward to reading this book. The storyline was great - loved the concept of the fae courts aligned with the seasons. However, the writing was simple making this an easy quick read (which may not be a bad thing for some readers). I found it lacking depth. I also discovered a number of storytelling errors which I hold the editors responsible for (ie: found a note on the passenger seat of her van then on the next page she’s burning the note left on the windshield of her van … what? huh?)
Was this the most fresh story to the fae canon? I don’t think so. But sometimes you just want a fun fantasy and romance to escape into and this delivered.
This is definitely a YA romance with a bit of plot sprinkled in. I wasn’t a huge fan of the pacing; it didn’t feel very even to me. But my biggest issue with it was that some of the lore wasn’t fully explained. Obviously you don’t need to know everything right at the beginning of the book, but throughout I kept feeling like I had missed things based on references to lore that were important to the plot. Except as far as I could tell I hadn’t missed anything, it just wasn’t fleshed out anywhere. Even now, having finished the book, I’m not clear on what some of it means. Those two things specifically made this book just ok for me.
This was a cute fae/changeling fantasy romance with spice. It's the story of a human girl who is accidentally turned into a changeling and meets her fated mate who happens to be lord of the winter court. She turns into a fae with horns and rose gold hair then Chaos and drama ensue! Evil must be overcome for love to reign! It's worth the read if a bit wordy with a brisk ending. I liked it overall and would recommend.
This was a struggle and a half to finish. I had forgotten why I don’t read on wattpad anymore, and this reminded me. The book was so fast paced and I completely knew the ending the instant the villain was introduced. If you’re looking for a cliche faerie book look no further. We
Hmm 🤔 how can I explain this book. I think the best way is comparing it to a bowl of a spaghetti… it had the pasta, and it had the meatballs, but it was missing the sauce that brought it all together and made it flow.
This book is a fae fantasy romance that is about a girl who is noticed by a fae court leader and her world is flipped upside down. This book had tremendous potential to me because I love fae romance books; however, this story fell short. It started off great and I liked how the characters were introduced, but once I hit the 60% mark it felt like the story was being rushed. I also wanted more romance and details about fae powers.
I received this book as an ARC and gave my opinion voluntarily.
A quick read purely for momentary entertainment. Romance fantasy still not for me, but I did enjoy the last bit and thought the ending was wrapped up nicely and well done. Sarah J Maas and Leigh Bardugo fans would enjoy this.
Dirty Lying Faeries is about Thea, who falls into the world of Fae by accident, and after learning all about this secret world, she starts getting random notes left for her that lead her on a path to save her new life and change the course of history.
I enjoyed how the Fae were done in this story; there were four courts: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. This story also had changelings; the Fae would seek out humans with little to no ties to family/friends and introduce the Fae to them secretly and give them faerie food to jumpstart the change before the season solstice. The true Fae would use the changelings to try and help populate the low birth rate of the Fae. Devin, Lord of Winter, meets Thea at his art gallery and starts the change process, but she isn't the correct changeling pick! Devin cannot back out and goes along with it, and once Thea makes the change, and it is up to her to choose which court she belongs in, whichever one is pulling her in, you find out that she and Devin are fated mates. I was super into that idea until it felt like there was a stop to the chemistry build. It went to a connection to fated mates, and then it felt like they were a married couple that had been together for 50+ years. I would have loved to see a relationship truly built between them in the story. At 60% in, the story flies! So much is going on, and it was exciting. Still, even with that said, I would have preferred to have at least a duology, so you could have had the first story about Devin and Thea learning to be mates and more time on Thea learning more about the Fae in general, as well as her new powers. The second book could have dived into the plot twist from the Rotting one, who wanted to create a war between the Changelings and the True Fae.
Overall the story was good, and I would recommend it! Thank you, NetGalley and Wattpad Books, for providing an eARC of Dirty Lying Faeries. This review is being left voluntarily, and all opinions are my own.
