Rate this book
When Hades first laid eyes on the beautiful girl in the fields of wildflowers, he knew he had to have her. Her soul pulled at his inner fiend to steal her away, but he would need help, and he would need to wait until the perfect moment. He knew she was his souls’ mate, but he would have to take what he knew was his. He would drag her to Tartarus to live out her days as his wife, and if she didn’t like it? That would be just fine, Hades was used to taking what he wanted.

Persephone had already had the worst day of her life when it ended with the earth swallowing her whole. She had been taken prisoner by a God who could ruin her, just as her mother had been ruined. If Hades thought he would get what he wanted from her he had another thing coming. She would die to hold onto her dignity.

As they both fight for control, who will win?

This book does involve trigger warnings such as;
Dark romance
Greek mythology
Supernatural elements
This also contains sensitive material with depictions of voyeurism, bondage, violence, kidnapping and graphic sexual scenes with violence involved that some readers may find offensive or alarming. If you haven’t read a book with darker sexual tones in before, I advise you to do some research before reading.

Persephone became the queen of the Underworld after her abduction by Hades, the god of the underworld, this book brings us on the journey through the retelling of how their lives became intertwined. As the seasons past their relationship develops through lies, promises and some spicy moments together… only a queen can match her king.

I thrive for Greek mythology books due to the great expansion of story’s that can be told, hades is so common to do but nothing is compared to this book! The writer has done an excellent job at including details and characters that you wouldn’t usually see in a modern retelling. Due to the story being a mythological telling, having the original information as well as the writers own twist on things actually worked really well in this book, as there is so many options nothing could be 100% correct and leaving the readers to their imagination. I absolutely love when writers such as this one can do this so us readers can use our minds to become more involved with story and characters. I have read much darker romance books so this was tame for me however, this gives romance for the greek myths a whole new meaning that I loved, therefore being right at the top for my love story ratings. As this is a start to a series of books I would definitely be keeping my eye out for the next one.

This one is hovering between a 3.75 and solid 4 for me so I’ve rounded the rating up.

Please note that this book is not for everyone. It deals with a lot of explicit sexual content of a darker nature that is not to everyone’s comfort level. Proceed with caution!

Pros:

I am a sucker for retellings and love when a previously perfect example of feminine delicacy becomes a force in her own right. The author did amazingly well with that here without changing Persephone so much that she didn’t embody all things fresh, lively and springlike.

I appreciate the care taken to show the dom/sub relationship as something more than abusive and to show that switches are a real thing and sometimes more fascinating than either of the extremes.

Cons:

Unless I somehow missed it Hades real reason for interest in Persephone was not mentioned until almost 60% of the book was done. Then it became a non-issue when something else he did was seen as worse. This seems like a missed plot point that should have either been removed or expanded upon. Doing it this way just felt like filler and a mistake.

Edited to add: I did go back after a comment that it was mentioned before in chapter two. They are correct that the deal was mentioned but it is a single sentence and does not tell us what the deal was. Without that information earlier I stick with my critique that it was a missed plot point.

Hades, the God of the Underworld, was infatuated with persephone at first sight and this lead to her abduction. This book takes us through emotions and hardships that there relationship had and even though it started through deals, lies and deceitfulness, feelings take over and Love is what they hold onto. They are truly the King and Queen of the Underworld and they will forever rule it together.

The author did a really good job with this book, it was a really good read. Absolutely loved Harold, the humour in the book was really enjoyable. The romance in the book was my favourite so far. I love how we got to see some of the other Greek Gods in this book, the way they were introduced was perfect! This is such a good retelling of Hades and Persephone. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I cant wait for more from this author.

All I have to say after reading this book is..."Take me now Hades!" All my smut/dark romance reader friends are going to absolutely LOVE this book. Although, this book needs to come with a warning...Once, you start reading you won't be able to stop until the last word has been read! Now that one of my favorite television shows, Lucifer has ended, I needed a new man to LUST over and that man is now Hades.

Persephone may be human but that does not mean that she can't hold her own in Hell. In fact, there is this one scene where she has power over Hades. So, so hot. Hades helped Persephone to be comfortable with her body and urges. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

I love a good Greek mythology story and this one was amazing. I love we are getting Hades first. Persephone and Hades story is one of my favorites. This book was so detailed and grab your attention. It's dark and kinky too... duh! I can't put this book down as I want to finish their story. Poseidon is next and I'm here for it.

This is definitely one of the more interesting Hades and Persephone retellings I’ve read. Hades is a total alphahole but I love it. And Persephone is a freaking badass and damn she can hold her own! I love a MFC that can make the MMC bend to her will. I also loved the twists within the plot. It made me not want to put it down! And spicy!!!! Whew this was HOT!!

Of course this is a five-star read. K.M Mixon is the queen of spice -literally. If you read for spice, I'm not asking you-- I'm telling you to read her books. I've had the pleasure to beta read and ARC read her books and she never disappoints. Anytime she releases a book, I'm like... "Okay!! Who's ready for some spice?" - Better lock your doors and make sure you're alone while reading.
Alright, jokes aside, this book was amazing, and I'm excited to read more.

Alright so, I started this book because I am a sucker for a good Hades and Persephone retelling but…Personally this one fell flat for me. Which I feel bad saying because this is definitely a case of the ideas being good and the execution just…Not being so.

What I didn’t like?

1. Honestly the smut fell flat for me in quite a few places. Dialogue felt stilted, some of the narration probably could have done with another round of edits, and some things honestly just made me uncomfortable.

“But it’s a dark fantasy romance?!?!”

Yeah, I get that. I’m still allowed to feel bothered by things. I get BDSM has layers, I don’t kink shame… But when some things feel borderline non consensual I don’t like it, no matter how romantically said book is trying to portray them.

2. All of them being related was also weird??? I know in the original Greek Myths Persephone is Zeus’s daughter and therefore Hades niece but the author seemed to have no issues changing other things from the myth so it made no sense that this wasn’t fixed. I get that with Zeus not really being a “father” to her that Hades wasn’t really an uncle figure but it’s still weird and I kind of hoped for some: “hey hades was adopted!” line or something to make it feel less ick to me.

3. I touched on dialogue and narration a bit with the first part, but some of it just felt unrealistic or fell flat. Parts read as awkward and not at all things I could see people saying.
As for narration I truly felt like another round of edits would have helped bunches.

4. The overall story was weirdly paced. There seemed to be no proper development between Persephone hating Hades and then developing feelings and most of the major hiccups in the plot were either resolved far too quickly or weren’t given the proper time to make me as the reader feel the proper emotions. There were several chapters of happily ever-ish after happenings so I don’t get why some of those chapters couldn’t have been formed into some more proper development for the main couple.

5. I love a dual pov story but the voices of Hades and Persephone felt off to me. I didn’t feel invested in them as characters as much as I would have liked.

6. I would have liked more on Persephone’s demi goddess state and how that all worked because it was something cool I thought wasn’t touched on enough!

Now, let’s get to what I did like! 🫶

1. Changing up Demeter was a great change from what most do! She’s usually either made into a Smotherer or she’s just borderline abusive and problematic. Making her into a skittish but still loving character was a pleasant change of pace from most retellings.

2. I also enjoyed the changing of the requirements for Persephone and staying with the seasons. It was nice that she wasn’t having to choose between Demeter and Hades and was instead allowed options that made everyone mostly happy.

3. Everly was alright. Maybe I should have put this on the other list, but I didn’t hate her. She wasn’t as developed as I would have liked but she also wasn’t horrible so I’m keeping her here. Letting Persephone have an ally was a good move on the author’s part and even though some of their conversations felt unrealistic to me it was clear they loved and cared for each other.

Overall I’d say this book was…Fine. I was able to finish it but honestly at times I wanted to quit. I don’t see myself rereading it but if you’re a fan of retellings that stick pretty close to the original myth and dark romances then this one is maybe for you. Please just check content/trigger warnings before reading. 💕

CHECK TRIGGERS BEFORE READING!

I have been obsessed with Greek mythology since I was a young child, especially the lore of Hades and Persephone. ( Didn’t know it was dark until I got older.) As soon as I know a book is a mythology retelling I rush to read it. I have some that were alright but many Hades and Persephone retellings have always left me feeling ehh, like it lacked and I was left unsatisfied. Until now, I have not found one that I actually enjoyed. When K.M Mixon offered me the ARC I jumped right on it and she DID NOT disappoint.

House of Hades is the first book in the Gods of Pain series and wowwww what a way to open a series. Hades was dark, broken, lonely, dominant, commanding and oh so deliciously sinful.

Hades first laid eyes on Persephone when she was a young teen playing in the fields of wildflowers. He knew right there and then that he needed to have her for himself. Something about her had called out to him and he found himself obsessed with her. Waiting for the day he can take her to the underworld. He wanted someone to love him and he knew Persephone was that person..she is his soulmate. Hades always took what he wanted and this time it wouldn’t be any different especially after Zeus agreed to it. Now is only a matter of the right time.

Persephone found peace in the opening when she was able to be around nature and flowers. She had so much on her plate. The farm, making ends meet….her mother. When her 21st birthday comes her mother decides to tell her a secret. A secret about her birth father. Needing some time to herself, she goes to the wildflower field. Just when she thought her day couldn’t get worse; the ground opens up and swallows her whole.

Landing in the underworld, she finds out she was picked to be the bride of Hades. No one asked her what she wanted and nor was she going to make it easy for him just because he’s a god.

Both fighting for what they want. Fighting to break the will of the other. Lies, deceptions, passion and love all entangle. Can Persephone get her freedom back? Can Hades make her love him? What secrets do they hide from one another?

Loveeeee Hades’ ..he just wanted love and company. He went about it the wrong way but he is used to getting what he wants so why ask for it. But the sweet girl from the flower field is not the hellion he has in his home. Persephone is full of fire. I can not praise K.M Mixon enough for making Persephone strong. I strongly dislike that others have made her weak and submissive with no fight. But not this author and I am all for it. Persephone means the bringer of death..so I am beside myself to finally find a retelling that is a 10/10 a yessss!!!

I received a free copy of this book directly from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Plot 5✨
Spice 5🌶️

God of the Underworld. Banished to Tartarus by his brother. Cursed to never be able to freely travel to the world above him. During one trip up top Hades sees her, the girl that can change everything for him. He wants her but he needs to leave her a little bit longer. When she is older, he will take her for himself. He knows he will have to break her but it's what he has to do in order to fullfill his deals.

Living with her mother Persephone is just a normal girl, or so she thinks. She enjoys simple things in life like her fields of flowers, which she misses every winter. Like everyone else, she knows of the Gods, but she is none the wiser that the devil himself has his eyes set on her.

When the ground beneath her opens up, Persephone finds herself falling into hell on her twenty-first birthday. Learning why she is there is a shock but if Hades thinks he can break her then he has another thing coming, Persephone is not someone to just roll over for anyone, not even a God.

Why does Hades need Persephone?
Will Persephone bend to the will of the God of the Underworld?
What are these feelings Persephone has inside her?
Persephone is just a means to an end, right?

This was my first ever Greek Myth Re-telling and I absolutely loved it. Hades was, in nice terms the loveable butthole. While he was unapologetically a butthole the way he cared about Persephone was so sweet. Watching the two of them fall in love, even though neither wanted it was perfect. I also loved that Persephone wasn't someone who would just roll over for Hades. She was just as strong and controlling as him. I loved watching her take control and loved watching Hades let her. I can't wait to read the rest of the God's series.
I did receive this as an ARC so thank you Mrs. Mixon

I’m going to start this off by bringing your attention to the person on the cover… that is one beautiful specimen😍 I’m not normally one that gravitates to book covers with actual people on them but damn👀👀 before we even get to the review of this book, I loved the dedication! “For all those who wander through the pages but are not lost.” ✨🤌🏽✨

This retelling of Hades and Persephone was a spicy one🌶 I read a lot at work and I’m glad this was one I read at home😂 I honestly don’t know much about Greek mythology except for what I learned while watching Xena Warrior Princess lol. But I loved that Persephone did not just fall in line with what was ordered of her. She was a gutsy character and did not give in to Hades’s every whim. I literally held my breath while I was reading their first time meeting because Persephone gave zero fucks. I feel like the clashing that happened when they first met definitely added to the tension that turned into chemistry. I wasn’t counting on there being humor but there were definitely some scenes that had me laughing out loud. If you’re into spicy retellings, I cannot recommend this enough! I received complimentary review copy from the author but it in no way influences my review. I seriously cannot wait for the second book in the series!

I LOVED this book! Now, of course, I'm a sucker for Greek Myth, especially Hades and Persephone, but really this one was awesome. I think part of why I loved this one so much was how dark it is. I loved the dynamic between Hades and Persephone, the way their relationship evolved was really fun to watch. They also had some good banter between them. I also really enjoyed the original characters that the author added to the story, they were fantastic. I also loved the way that the author played with other characters from mythology in the story. That's usually one of my favorite parts about myth retellings, seeing the new and unique interpretations each author has of the myths and the gods.

The steamy parts of this book are AMAZING. Make sure you check the trigger warnings, as this is a dark romance, and there may be some content that's not your cup of tea. For me, these scenes were just soooo good. They were everything that I want in a dark romance.

This is the first book of a new series, and book 2 comes out in August. The next book focuses on Poseidon, and I can't wait to read it! House of Hades is available for free on KU, and I definitely recommend it- if you like dark romance, Greek myth, or both, I think you'll love this one!

I’m a SUCKER for retellings. Give me Greek mythology give me beauty and the beast. I love them.
I picked this book up without actually reading any reviews or anything. I needed a dark spicy romance after finishing the twisted series to keep me from falling into a slump. I ended up liking it way more than I thought I would.

This book is a retelling of Hades and Persephone and I really really liked it. I read it in one sitting. I just wish it was longer, I wanted more of Persephone and Hades, more for them to grow. This book was a little different from other retellings I’ve read. This Persephone had such fire and was so damn ballsy! She fought, she spat & she argued and she loved. Hades was also a bit different (all the gods tbh) he has more emotion than the rest, I mean in the beginning he was something else, but this Hades apologised when he had to, he ran from his emotions and I don’t know how to explain in. He was just so vulnerable . But I really liked it! Zeus (even though he’s an ass and always does bad things in ALL the books) also had emotions and a conscience… I know I’m also shocked

Can’t wait till I can read the next book in this series that will circle around Poseidon.

Let’s start by saying this is a Hades and Persephone retelling, I however know nothing about the mythology so I was going in basically blind. The only other H&P I’ve read was Neon Gods and it was a solid 3 star for me 🤷🏼‍♀️

Anyways….this book is dark and gritty in the beginning. There’s definitely an enemies to lovers feel and boy does P HATE Hades lol.

I loved how strong of a heroine P was. She wasn’t afraid to fight and show how pissed she was to be in the situation she was thrust into.

Their banter had me ☠️☠️! It might be a darker romance but it has some serious comedic relief.

Their relationship developers and Hades loses his freaking mind for her. Is there anything better then seeing the King of the Underworld melt for a woman, I don’t think so.

The spice in this book is straight 🥵🥵. It’s kinky, the power play is top tier, and it’s a perfect balance with the plot.

This is book one of a long planned Gods series and I’m so excited to see where the rest of them go. I’ve heard from a little birdy that they get darker and spicier, so I’m all here for that!!

If steamy romance isn't your thing, move on. Because this story is like a 10 out of 10 in the spice department.

If it is your thing, get ready.

There are trigger warnings at the beginning. So if those are triggers for you, please pay attention to them.

I received this book as an arc read, and wasn't sure if I was going to like it. I'm not a huge Greek Mythology person, but this was better than I expected. This is a romanticized story of Hades and Persephone.

Hades makes a deal with Zeus so that he can bring a girl to his realm with him for good. He has to have her with him. She will be his to do with as he desires. She will bend to his will and that will be that. He's been trapped in this realm for decades. He's also a god who is into making deals. He's also made a deal with Pandora that if he can give her his first born, he can leave his realm and return to earth.

Little does he know Persephone is not who he thinks she is. He really doesn't know anything about her at all.

Torture, hatred and all out war becomes their norm.

Will she bare him a son so he can return to earth? Will they kill each other through it all? Can they find love through it all?

This book has become one of my favorites. The retelling of Hades and Persephone is a phenomenal story. I love how the author gave Persephone a strong lead in this story. As she become the Queen of the Underworld, we see how strong she can be. Hades is the definition of the bad boy that can only be good for me. He has specific tastes when it comes it comes to his sexual nature and over time we see those begin to change and evolve. The humor that we see has had me laughing out loud, just as much as the darker moments have left me saying Oh Shit!! My fellow smut readers will thoroughly enjoy this look into the underworld and the lust filled moments of passion. We see some other Gods and goddesses make appearances and their introductions melded beautifully within this story line. This is the first book of the series and I can’t wait to see what the other Gods are up to.

Anachronistic nonsense. It’s a world where the Greek gods are still worshipped, so it should be set in ancient Greece. But the level of technology and life style seems more generic medieval. And the FMC is totally 21st century, using vocabulary like clueless and asshole, and expressing 21st century attitudes about gender relations. I don’t mind so much that the gods travel through time and have brought indoor plumbing into their domains. But a woman from ancient Greece shouldn’t open a drawer in a bedroom in Hades and find and recognize black silk underwear. She shouldn’t even recognize a drawer, or a dress. Ancient Greeks wore tunics and cloaks, not panties and dresses. I was expecting a book that would take its setting seriously, not one that simply put the 21st century together with some characters from Greek mythology. I won’t be going on with this series.

Wow what a journey with Persephone and Hades. They hated, laughed, had smoking hot sex 🔥🔥🔥and had to the ability to teleport in an instant, one of my favourite things.
The couple were brought together by list and a sibling deal but they soon learned they were meant each other, else could the King of the Underworld on his knees.
The characters are full of life and as a visual reader the jumped off the page with depth and feelings that I didn’t expect.
The world as well was well written and the banter and interaction between Hades and the boys was hilarious.

Welcome to the first Gods of Pain series! Hades is well Hades. He gets what he wants when he wants. Persephone is absolutely no different. Can she be the missing piece of his heart? Or is Hades just too far gone? This book is a great kick off to what I know will be a fantastic series. This book is spicy and kept my attention from page one! Old story expanded

Nothing new to the story of Hades and Persephone. The story of their time together is hot and sexy. The twists with Pandora was limiting to the growth of the main characters. I was sad that their story was over. I felt there was so much depth to this story to be developed. I found the Underworld of Hades rule interesting but lacking in development. Minor characters were introduced but not explored or briefly explained. I needed more. The spice is definitely five stars.

Before you enter. There is one thing I need you know. "Your safe word is Black."

"This Creature will be the death of me."

She is everything. He is a heathen. But yet he is the king of the underworld and she a commoner who knows of nothing beyond her simple life and taking care of her mother. When she is pulled from everything into the dark crack in the earth and is now expected to run to her captor with love and bow to his every whim. He has been captivated by her very existence, plagued by her in his dreams and now he has her. A battle of wills and minds will ensue them. One dominant to the very core, The other needing almost subconsciously begging to be put in their place.

if you like v!olence between h & H…

Then this the book for you. Domestic v!olence is not sexmy in any way. The use of it seemed lazy and possibly an attempt to be edgy.. not a good look and cringe. An attempt to show h as a bad @ss that failed miserably. Also the H had OW (a s@x worker) relations after bringing h to the underworld, to their home, to be his wife. I was super excited for this and was disappointed. Even the really steamy scenes couldn’t make up for this non-delicious toxic mess.

Ugh Hades

I was OBSESSED with Greek mythology as a teen. I always felt more drawn to Hades. Before House of Hades:Seeds of Hope, I hadn’t read any retellings that I could actually get into. This book though?! 😍😍 K.M. stuck closely to the Hades lore, but still managed to add in minor modern day twists that made me fall in love with this retelling! I can’t wait to see where the author goes with the rest of this deliciously dark series about the Greek Gods!

this was solid

I’m weak for Hades and Persephone stories and this one did not let down. The dynamic between them was like I haven’t read before, while yes he’s still powerful and all of that, he becomes weak and soft for her in moments he knows he truly messed up.

And Persephone isn’t a soft and timid thing, she has her moments of it, but she’s got a fire in her that burns bright.

I loved and I mean I absolutely loved this book. I didn’t want it to end. Hades gave me a little whiplash from wanting Persephone to the using her to get to move around (understandable) but to give up your child made me wanna slap him. But the love he has for her made my heart want to explode with happiness. And Persephone LOVE HER she’s a total bad ass. She gave as good as she got.
I would 1000% recommend this book to anyone.

I LOVE the concepts in this book.

The extreme and hard personality shift of Persephone once she gets to the underworld was jarring and unrealistic.

The writing needed a bit of smoothing. A pass from an editor would have really benefited this book a lot. The combinations of contractions and “old fashioned” or formal speech were also hard to get past.

That being said, the concepts were excellent and the spice was lovely.

I loved this book.

It was great to see how Persephone changed Hades and Tartarus. How their relationship evolved. I loved how Persephone truly was the other half of his soul (he also completed her soul too) and how they both gave in to those desires for each other. I loved her spirit and fire I laughed out loud at her biting him and her other antics. I loved sephe and everlys friendship. Can't wait to start book 2 :)

Ms. Mixon has done an amazing retelling of Hades and Persephone. Beautifully written. I loved the strength that Persephone has when dealing with Hades. Hades, a god to love and hate. I felt all the emotions while reading this. The spice in this book... amazing. I loved everything about this book.
I got to enjoy this book as an ARC reader.

Spank me Daddy Hades. I've been naughty. Man this book really brought in the smut!! Not complaining because ya girl was here for every little thing this book had to offer. It had a Greek mythology retelling (Hades and Persephone). It had dark elements and it had some kinky spicy scenes. It was everything I wanted in a book. I'm ready for Poseidon's story now.
