Wisper Dreams #1

Rivers Between Us

Rate this book
A woman finds safety in the one man she hurt the most.

Sheriff of Teton County, Carey Michaels, puts everyone else's needs before his own—always—but when his ex-best friend shows up in his life again, with a ten-year-old daughter and a mountain of problems in tow, he has to decide if he can handle his heart being broken.

Again.

Francesca Morris feels safer back in her Wyoming hometown, and her daughter Grace is certainly safer than she was in Texas, but the threat in their lives lingers, even in Wisper. The boy she used to love wants to protect her, but doubts and insecurities hit hard, and Frannie can't stand to hurt Carey again, even if he is the big bad sheriff. Carey’s all M.A.N. now, and he never leaves home without his handcuffs, but it isn’t locks Frannie’s afraid of.

It's her heart.

Fall in love with Carey and Frannie in the first book in the Wisper Dreams Series, with new characters and some of your favorites from Cade Ranch. Rivers Between Us is a standalone, but there will be many books to follow in this charming small-town, each with its own HEA.

Trigger Warnings: Our heroine is a victim of domestic violence, but by the end of this book, she and her daughter become survivors!

Greta Rose West has been a delight to read from book one,Burned (The Cade Ranch #1)
Ok,i may be a little biased because i was there with her, cheering her on,from the start.
But i knew she had a way with words that deserved an audience, and i’ve been proved right with every story she’s written so far.
Because she’s got that audience, and they’re all loving what she does as much as i do.
After all the Cade brothers got their HEA,i was secretly hoping she’d return to Wisper,to show some of it’s other residents the same tlc she gave the Cade brothers.
So,when she gave in to my,and other’s, “subtle nudges”,i was só happy!
And who better to kick off this spin-off series than Carey, the town sheriff?
He saved the day for his friends and their loved ones so often, and he deserves his own HEA!
Getting his story, finding the ARC in my inbox, may have made me squeal a little…

Carey never got over his childhood love, over the one that got away….his Frannie.
But she was determined to leave Wisper and conquer the world, live her dream life.
Now she’s back, but she’s not the Frannie he used to know anymore.
Her marriage to Doug was the reason she was a mere shadow of herself these days.
If only he could talk to her, find out why she married that no good for nothing piece of….
And she didn’t come back alone….she’s got a daughter,Grace.
They keep to themselves, and any attempt Carey makes to get closer to Frannie, she brushes him off.

In the meantime, strange things are happening in Wisper.
Accidents that aren’t accidents,stuff getting stolen…
Are they random,or is there a reason behind it all?

All Carey knows,is that he’s got his hands full with winning back his Frannie as well as dealing with this increase in crime.
Finding out there’s more behind Frannie’s reasons for keeping him at arms lenght, finding out why, makes him see red….but he knows he needs to keep his cool if he wants to help her.
Finding out the reasons for the increase in crime makes him happy to take action against the culprits, even if he has to leave some of that to the FBI….

In the end,all he needs is his Frannie and his Gracie.
Because they’re his,he just needs to convince Frannie….because Gracie already knows.

Greta Rose had me,again,at page one. (Which is no surprise)
The day to day struggles Frannie had to go through,to keep Gracie safe from her father,to simply care for her,to give her a reason to smile….
And the helpless feelings Carey had of not being able to get her to open up,to simply trust him to help her…to be able to cross that river between them.
Not to mention everything else that was going on,because that only added more pain to my aching heart….
I laughed and i cried,i wished and i cursed, but most of all i loved how Carey found his Frannie back!

It’s so good to be back in this world and I was so excited to get Carey’s story! Carey and Frannie were best friends as kids until the day she packed up and left town - leaving Carey with a broken heart. Little does he know that Frannie left her heart back with Carey too. Years have passed and Frannie and her daughter Grace are back in town but Frannie isn’t the woman that left Carey all those years ago. Frannie has been in an abusive relationship and the husband she’s been trying to divorce will not leave her be. When things escalate, Carey urges Frannie to trust in him and herself to reach the light at the end of the tunnel.

Full of suspense, action and twists…this story grabs you and sucks you in until the very end. Will Frannie find the strength within herself to seize happiness? Will Carey break through Frannie’s hard shell and show her they were always inevitable?

This was a devastatingly beautiful story that pulled at every piece of my soul in the best way. It was emotional and heartbreaking. But it was also hopeful, thoughtful and intimate. I would classify this as a slow burn and normally I’m not one for a slow burn but given the situation, it was rightfully written with a wonderful undertone of sexual tension.

Greta took quite a traumatic circumstance and gave it a voice worth hearing. It was tastefully written through the lens of the survivor who was both timid yet fierce and the protector who was both commanding yet soft. Frannie has been through so much but hasn’t let it break her and I loved her fearlessness even in the face of her self worth issues. She is resilient even when she feels like no one is in her corner fighting for her. Carey was more of a quiet strength in ways but his presence dominated a room and he didn’t allow Frannie to hide herself away or become a shell. He knew how to push Frannie just enough that gave her the power of choice. His kind and forgiving heart was so swoony!

Both Frannie and Carey were developed SO well as individual characters and as a couple. Their interactions, inner thoughts and actions were real and raw. I think every reader can relate in some way to Frannie and Carey because Greta has written human nature and instinct in his truest form. Life isn’t always rainbows and butterflies but that doesn’t mean there isn’t beauty in the storm and I think Greta captured that in this story.

I loved Carey and Frannie together and even though this was a slow burn - the passion and adoration was evident when they finally came together. It was a tangle of limbs and desperation for all the years they lost. Greta can really write emotional love scenes and that’s worth everything to me when I read romance.

Frannie’s daughter Grace was a wonderful addition to the story and I won’t lie - my ovaries were hurting reading the way Grace and Carey interacted. I also loved that we got to see the Cade brothers and their loves. Overall, if you loved the Cade brothers then you’ll definitely love this one. No one does cowboys like Greta and now you can add uniformed men to that list. I’m really looking forward to Brady and Theo’s book!

Basically, this story was amazing and hit all my romance buttons...

I can't tell you how happy I was to get another story from Greta and be back in Wisper. I fell in love with her Cade Ranch series and all of the brothers. Now we get the wonderful caring story about Sheriff Carey. You meet him in the Cade ranch , he is like family to them and you find out her never got over his high school crush. I loved loved loved Gracie which is Frannie's beautiful daughter, she knew how it should be and tried her hardest to give her mom and Carey a push. I felt really bad for Frannie but she was so strong to have survived what she had been through. This story had some twist I didn't see coming but was so happy with the ending. I can't wait for the next book . Thank you Greta foe letting me go in this journey !

Did Not Finish. Pace was way too slow. For a romantic suspense, I wanted to see a faster paced, action packed story. Also, at 12%, the couple had only been on the page together in the prologue. And the author overused the “stereotypical” southern accents and word usage that wasn’t kitschy or cute but made the characters come across as not intelligent. And I’m from the south and have read many books written by and about the south and this is the only time I felt it demeaned the characters. Just unable to finish c

REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rivers Between Us by Greta Rose West is the first book in the author’s new Wisper Dreams series which is a spin off of her bestselling Cade Ranch series. Carey is the local sheriff and he finds himself once again face to face with Frannie, the girl who left town and broke his heart over a decade ago. But Frannie is no longer the spirited dream she once was. She is now guarded and quiet. She is ashamed for anyone to learn, especially Carey, that all her big dreams resulted in a marriage to a mentally and physically abusive husband. Can Carey save her from this tragic and frightening existence and show her that it is possible to love and trust again?⠀

It is thrilling to have Greta Rose West back with a brand new series that promises countless hours of tantalizing reading. Still set in the town of Wisper, Wyoming, the stories will be peppered with familiar and much loved characters from her first amazing series. As always, the author provides a healthy blend of drama and sizzle. When Carey and Frannie finally get together the energy is electric and the passion explosive. The subject of violence and abuse is handled with a great deal of sensitivity while in no way downplaying its impact. What more can I say? Rivers Between Us is another magnificent offering from a master storyteller. If the name Greta Rose West is on the cover then it is a guaranteed winner. ⠀

Absolutely brilliant book from a fairly new author. Carey and Frannie were teenage best friends when she left him with a broken heart when she left him.
Years later she returns with her abusive husband and her beautiful daughter Grace. Bruised and battered from the husband who will not leave her alone she cannot avoid Sheriff Carey Michaels any more.
Carey is determined to find out why her family is so hateful to her.
The domestic violence and treatment by her family hurt my heart and I felt really emotional about it all.
Of course there is the HEA and this makes it all ok.
I can highly recommend this book and also the Cade ranch series it stemmed from.

This is a Second Chance Friends to Lovers Romance, and this is the first book in the Wisper Dreams series. There is a lot in this book that could trigger a reader, so please look into the trigger warnings before picking up this book. I loved the characters in this book, but little Grace stole my heart. This book was filled with suspense and a lot of family drama. I love how Carey was there for Francesca without being pushy. This story was very touching in so many ways. I love every minute I spend reading this book.

Rivers Between Us by is an ex-best friends-to-lovers sheriff romance about finding community when you need it the most and learning to live again... This is small town romance at its best!

Oh Carey, you have my heart ❤️ move over Cade Cowboys, I have a Sheriff book boyfriend now (who am I kidding, Sheriff Carey can be my book fiancé and the Cade boys can still be my book boyfriends 😂)

Carey and Fran had feelings for one another when they were younger, they lived next door to each other. Frannie’s home life wasn’t great, she knew she had to escape, she took her chance, years later she moves back home and we find out first hand what she’s endured 🥺😫

Carey is now grown up and working as the local sheriff, his feelings for Frannie have never diminished, what I loved about Carey is that he has an idea of what she’s been through but doesn’t push her, he’s supportive and encourages her to speak to him, to let him help.

“Why you always gotta make helpin’ you so damn difficult? There’s a river between us, Frannie. I’m on one bank and you’re on the other, and no matter what I do or say, I can’t get to you.”

Little Gracie was a star, she’s seen and heard things a little girl should never have to, she’s drawn to the safety Sheriff Carey possess (like us readers!) and soon helps him understand Frannie a little more.

When Fran starts to feel safe, the romance heats up, the suspense kicks in and we have a captivating storyline! A solid start to this new series

Trigger Warnings: Our heroine is a victim of domestic violence, but by the end of this book, she and her daughter become survivors!

Not a lot of 🌶️ but a very intense plot. Your heart breaks for Fran as she does everything she can to build a life for Grace. One of the better small town romances with not a lot of romance and alot of plot twists.

Meh

It was fine. The characters felt flat to me. I didn't feel the connection, and I finished it more by habit than desire.

Carey, the town Sheriff and a man that will make you sigh and swoon, has been in love with his best friend, Frannie, from years ago since the first day they met when they were kids. She’s moved back to town years ago and their interactions have been non existent since the day she left. Now she’s married with a ten year old and he still can’t stop thinking about her everyday.
Fran made a huge mistake leaving town with her dead beat boyfriend, leaving Carey behind, the boy she has always loved, who is now a man, but she didn’t think she was good enough and needed to leave to make something of herself. Unfortunately, nothing went according to her plans, she’s separated from her abusive husband who keeps coming around and using her as a punching bag and she has her reasons for not saying anything and it all has to do with her daughter, Gracie. When Gracie turns to Carey for help, he can’t stand by and let either of them be hurt anymore and he can’t understand why Fran puts up with it. As the two become close once again, her ex and her family make it impossible for them to move forward….will Fran find her voice before it’s too late for her and Carey to have their second chance at first love.
A GREAT read and I LOVED Carey, who finally gets his story, a read I couldn’t put down that had me sighing and swooning over the town Sheriff….honestly I’ve been swooning over Carey since the first time I read about him and have been waiting impatiently for his book. The story flowed beautifully and I instantly fell in love with Gracie and I loved reading about the Cade clan and their growing family, revisiting characters that I fell in love with in the Cade Ranch series.

“A woman is like a tea bag - you can't tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water.” -Eleanor Roosevelt

You’d be forgiven for assuming the stories under Greta Rose West’s hunky shirtless cowboy (er, and sheriff) covers are all about the men. But what I really love about her books (other than the pulled-taut tension, spectacular dialogue, and scenes so hot they steam up my kindle) is how freaking strong the women are; women who are supported, valued and empowered by the men who love them.

Frannie is no damsel; she’s a dynamo. The thing is, this fierce mama bear doesn’t know her own strength yet. Strength of self, strength of character, even the strength of the enduring love she has for the boy-turned-allll man, Carey. It’s not until she’s forced to confront the traumas of the past and rise up against dangers lurking in the present that she can finally transform into the Wonder Woman she was always meant to be. The woman Carey always knew she was.

Greta Rose West may have just wrapped up the explosively good Cade Ranch series, but already she has created a brand new stable of riveting characters and heart-pounding storylines to fill the void for her fans - and we couldn’t be more grateful!

Wow, with a family like the h's, you really do not need enemies! Dysfunctional, weak parents who are ego and appearance driven; a jealous, vindictive sister with a dark soul; and a lousy, abusive husband. The lack of love and acceptance in her family set her up to believe she was 'not good enough' for anything but the loser she married.

The sheriff was her first love, her ultimate love and something she felt she did not deserve.

It was interesting 1. how the sister was able to ultimately take over the father's political world and use his power for her own goals; 2. How she was able to use the abusive brother in law to keep her sister under control and to further her evil scheme's, and; 3. How two relatively minor players in this political, power driven world were able to topple everything....and achieve their own HEA in the process.

Lesson that should have been known: don't mess with a mama bear. Her abusive husband and sister should have paid attention.

Another awesome book and can't wait for the next one. Greta's books deal with unfortunate things that happen in life and happiness at the end. Frannie and Grace having to live with the trauma caused by her husband and family and never having the support of anyone is something I can't imagine going through. Carey jumped right in to help them and ended up with his happy ending.

Be still my heart…5 stars are simply NOT enough!! Greta Rose West has done it again. She has spun the perfect tale of life, love, pain, and broken dreams—which makes us as readers need tons of tissues to get through the end. I’m telling you that you need to grab a copy of this book for your library today! The storyline is incredible; the characters so amazing; plot twists and turns that you don’t see coming; and a downright fantastic HEA! This book is really amazing…and I can’t wait for more! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and was totally mesmerized by the depth and breadth of this story!!) ❤️❤️

Thank you, Greta Rose West for another amazing read!

It was just fine, Carey was okay but I didn’t really care for Frannie too much. I felt her reasoning for leaving was kind of dumb but I get she was young. Not really super suspenseful and her sister’s reasoning for doing what she did was also kind of lackluster.

It was a great read but I have to say it could have been so much more. I say this from a good place as I would have love to of seen you draw the book out a bit or you could have even made it a trilogy. I was right in the story and then felt like halfway through you got really rushed and going from one sentence to the next sentence being not related and could have been made divided into into chapters or even into their own paragraph. Please tell more of the story and more love between your characters. You had an awesome sex scene but then you just left out the sexy completely not sure if you were rushing or something. I feel like you didn’t get to write their whole story
Please please don’t get me wrong there was a great story in there but bring it out a bit

Greta Rose West has delivered yet another amazing start to a promising new series!

Carey watched Francesca leave once when they were younger, now she is back with her 10-year-old daughter but not all is what it seems.

A spin off from the fabulous Cade ranch series, Rivers Between Us is an emotionally brilliant story. I found myself taking the journey with the characters in this well written, well delivered story of deceit, heartbreak, forgiveness and love. I look forward to reading more and highly recommend this story and author.

I was so excited for this book because I loved Carey in the Cade Ranch series, but I'm going to be honest and say that I was kind of disappointed in this book. It felt unpolished and more like a draft, not because of any spelling or grammar issues, which were very rare, but because of the rambling chapters and missing details or connected dots.

There was so much introspection by the characters. Way too much. And the introspection repeated details from both Carey and Fran's perspectives; it was like it was done so we knew both characters knew the same things. Carey would think about how his dad died, and then the next chapter would be Fran thinking about how Carey's dad died. These repeated details should have only been given from the opposite person that the detail affects. For example, Fran should have been the one to tell us how Carey's dad died because obviously Carey knows how it happened, so now the reader knows that Fran knows.

The story explained why Fran liked Carey (he felt safe, felt like home) but never really explained why Carey liked Fran. He said she was spirited and fiery and even once said she fights for those who can't fight for themselves, but we never saw examples of those descriptions.

Fran never told Carey how her dad treated her family in privacy; many times throughout the book, Carey thinks about how Mr. McKinnon was like a role model and how Fran just "up and left," but Fran never explains to him that those were connected. The reader knows, but Carey doesn't.

The detail of Grace substituting words felt like a thrown in bit of information at the very end; if this was a common attribute of Grace's, it should have been seen throughout the book and not just once at the end. For the amount of worrying Fran did, having a scene where Grace did become hypoglycemic would have justified that concern with the reader.

What exactly was Jill doing? There wasn't a confirmed villian plot: was she having Doug intimidate those farmers in order to buy their land for condos or a ski resort or for herself? And what did it mean that she was doing that in Texas too? Was Doug harassing those farmers out of their land too? Again, for what purpose? And why did she pick Doug? Was it because he had no prospects so she knew he would do her dirty work? Why was Doug planning on kidnapping Grace? He had a pathetic backpack of supplies, but we don't know why. Did Jill ask him to do that? It was frustrating that Carey didn't charge Vern or Doug for setting the fireworks off in the street. We were specifically told that fireworks were not allowed in Teton County (don't understand why, but oh well), and they shot them off in the street, in town, at a government building. Even in a county where fireworks are allowed, you would get charges for that. And why did they do that? Vern let slip that they were supposed to distract Carey. Was it because something specific was happening in the background or because if Carey's too busy locking up Vern, then he can't spend time thinking about the farmers?

It would have been nice to see more struggle by those farmers. We heard snippets of their misfortunes and it was alluded to that Phil might sell her farm, but we never heard anything beyond Carey's brief speculation. Jack and Evvie went through all that trouble to gather the gossip from the farmers, but nothing really came of it. What about that barn raising that Jack mentioned for Phil?

I got frustrated with the part where Fran is thinking about divorce and custody and how the court "always sides with the father and thinks nothing of the mother." That is the furthest thing from the truth. The court is notorious for placing custody with the mother even if she is an absolute wreck. Maybe it could have been reworded about small towns and biased judges.

Regarding the first sex scene: I have read this in many romance books but have never been able to figure out, when the woman has her legs wrapped around the guy's waist, how is she disrobing and/or reaching around to grab the guy's butt? Your legs are in the way, are you hunched over in his arms to grab his butt under your legs? It makes no sense. Just latch onto his shoulders and rake his back with your nails or something instead.

In the epilogue, I would have liked a glimmer of hope regarding Fran's dad. Maybe mention that he was coming over for an afternoon later that week to connect with Grace and make up for lost time. Maybe how he is determined to do better and how he is excited for the second baby.

Overall, this book felt like it was rushed and slightly forced. Almost like the author was coming off the high of the Cade Ranch series and had to push this one out to meet a deadline. The writing style was choppy in that each sentence was an outline of "and and and" of description and action ("I did this and that, and then this happened and the other person reacted"), and there was way too much introspection by the characters and not enough interaction. I did receive an advance copy of this book for free as part of this author's ARC team, and I will continue to support this author and read her books because I love the Wisper community, and I know this author has great talent.

PS I love this cover. That is exactly how I had pictured Carey in the Cade Ranch series.

Acquired Kindle edition when offered free on Amazon.

This was one of those books that could have gone from a solid three stars up to an almost full four stars, but ended up dropping down to two, and it was a stretch at that.

There are some spoilers ahead.

The writing annoyed me almost from the beginning. I never did get used to the vernacular, the gonna and 'cause and doin' and somethin' in the dialogue. Instead of hearing the Western drawl in the voices as I read, I just kept seeing the words. The same dialect wasn't used -- or at least not as much -- in the narrative passages, which meant I had to keep changing the mental voice.

But those shifts from dialogue to narrative also bugged me, and really had an effect on the reading experience. The point of view is first person throughout the book, with chapters more or less alternating between the two main characters, Carey and Frannie. I'm not a fan of this technique, and in this book I found it particularly annoying. Unless I stopped at the beginning of each chapter and carefully identified which character was "telling" that chapter so I could shift into their POV, I often got confused.

Part of that confusion stemmed from the very first chapter, or rather the "Prologue," that's told in Carey's POV. As I read it, Carey came across at first as so accommodating, so unwilling to make his feelings known, that for a while I thought this 17-year-old was Frannie's girlfriend. I got no sense of him being a teenaged boy. He was acting more like a girldfriend, giving advice and arguing against Frannie's decision like a friend, not like someone who was deeply in love with her. After I had read five or six pages, I had to go back and re-read to make sure I had the characters straight in my mind.

But from then on, the transition from one chapter to the next and one point of view to the other always left me confused. Was I supposed to stop, deliberately shift gears, then go back to reading? I became annoyed with that, and even sometimes when I did it, the transition didn't stick and I'd have to go back and re-read to clarify. Carey and Frannie basically had the same voice.

There were also huge passages of telling-not-showing narrative that I really felt could have been done better through dialogue or even actions. This became even more obvious further along in the book, when backstory was "revealed."

I continued to read despite these annoyances because I wanted to see how Frannie got out of her situation. To be honest, I didn't much care about Carey. I couldn't reconcile that poor heartbroken 17-year-old Carey of the "Prologue" who let his "best friend" walk away and ruin her life, with the 30 year old Carey who's now the elected Sheriff of Teton County. Yeah, yeah, the strong, compassionate type, but nope, it just didn't work for me. He was too sensitive, too caring. He needed more gumption to be running for elected office at that age and he simply hadn't shown it.

Frannie, on the other hand, was an enigma. Or maybe she was too many contradictions. And I understand that victims of domestic violence have a lot of reasons for staying or not staying in that kind of relationship, but I just didn't buy Frannie's. She had the guts to file for divorce, but not the guts to follow through. I recognized that she was protecting her daughter. And I recognized that she'd been made to feel the abuse was all her fault. That's often typical. Frannie's independent spark hadn't been completely snuffed by the abuse, however, and that seemed contradictory to me.

So through the entire book I tried to reconcile the sparky Frannie with the brow-beaten Frannie and just couldn't do it, especially when posed beside the angsty, lovelorn Carey. It just wasn't working.

But the ending? Oh my dear goodness, that was horrible. Oh, not horrible in a not happily ever after way. I mean, we all saw that whole thing coming from page one. I could have accepted all of that if there had been some reasonable set-up through the course of the rest of the story, especially since this is supposed to be the start of a spin-off series. It just didn't work.

The characters came across as shallow, almost stereotypes, from the super duper nice guy sheriff to the evil sister to the total dickwad abuser husband to the "I done you and your mama wrong, honey, but I'm your daddy and I'm really really sorry now" father. The external plot just never worked and was never fully integrated into the relationship plot.

So it got two stars.

This is the first book in this series and although it could be read as a standalone, I feel you will be more connected to the characters if you have read some of the previous series. Carey is introduced in the Cade brother’s series as he is the best friend of Jack and Dean and is also the town sheriff. I was happy to see him get his own story. This is Carey and Francesca’s story.

Carey is the town sheriff and best friends with some of the Cade family. He is a single guy and happy to stay that way. The love of his life left years ago and took his heart with her. Although he has tried, he can’t forget her and no one seems to be able to make him regardless of the hurt it caused him.

Fran, Francesca or Frannie as she is referenced in this book as all three, is a broken and battered woman. She has had an amazingly tough life physically and emotionally. You can feel her pain at times in this book. She left Wisper years ago hoping for a wonderful life. She and Carey were best friends since they were 12 and their relationship started to grow into something more. You find out that she had to leave Wisper and Carey, who she loved deeply because she did not want to end up like her mother, but ironically she is now worse off than she was. After her husband, Doug, failed to fulfill promises of a wonderful life and failed to make it in the rodeo circuit they moved back to Wisper with their daughter Grace. She is technically separated from him, but he still haunts her and abuses her. Grace is 10 years old and I just fell in love with her. She battles her own issues, but is the smartest one of them all helping to bring her Mom and Carey back together.

The love that these two share is heartwarming. After 13 years they still love each other immensely. It is obvious that these two belong together, but Fran has scars and can’t let Carey in for fear of him getting caught up in Doug’s anger and abuse. She doesn’t want anyone to know how weak she has become. Her light is gone and all Carey wants to do is bring it back, she just needs to trust again. Grace has a big part in bringing Carey back into their lives. He was amazing with her and I loved seeing him fall in love with her too.

This story touches on abuse and how it affects not only the abused, but the people who love and care for them. There were several twists to this story which I enjoyed because it kept it interesting. Fran’s husband and family were awful and I was so happy that she got her HEA with Carey, Grace and her new friendships with the Cade’s. The secondary characters were wonderful and it was nice to catch up with some of the Cade’s from the previous series. This story will make you feel many things, but in the end all you feel is happy for Carey and Fran (and Grace) for finding each other again and getting their very well deserved second chance. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed this book. It was beautifully written. I love Greta's writing style. I'm so happy that we get more of this town. I have been waiting for Carey's book and it was well worth the wait. And this book cover was exactly how I pictured Carey. Love it!

I loved Sheriff Carey Michaels. He is the perfect book boyfriend. He was strong, sweet and supportive. He loved Frannie so much but I loved that he didn't let her walk all over him. I didn't care for Frannie. I thought Carey deserved better then her. She knew he was in love with her and she claimed to love him but she still left to marry someone else. I get that she was young and determined to get away from her dad but the way she assumed a life with Carey would be like her dad bothered me. She learned a hard lesson and paid for it for years. I'm not a fan of second chance romance so I admit that I tend to be harder on the character that leaves.

I liked the pace of this book. I was never bored or wanted to skip anything. Everything about this book, the romance and the suspense was a slow burn but the story never felt slow. I've always loved how well Greta can write the steamy scenes. My only complaint here is that I wanted a bit more.

I loved that we got a lot of time on the Cade Ranch. Jack will always be my favorite Greta Character, although Carey is a close second. I loved the scenes we got of him here and all the family. I can't wait for Brady and Theo's book.

Squeeeeeee I was so excited to be back in this world!!!!!!

Rivers Between Us is a spin off from the Cade Ranch series and gosh I have been soooo looking forward to Sheriff Carey's story.
Carey and Frannie share a past. They were childhood best friends who shared a special connection. Until one day Frannie simply left town leaving behind a broken hearted Carey.
After 10 long years Frannie and her daughter Grace have returned to Wisper.
But...
Both Carey and Frannie are no longer the same people they once were.
Can time heal old wounds? Will Carey and Frannie get a second chance?
Frannie's back and current story ached my heart and had me wanting to throat punch a few peeps. I may have had a moment of frustration with Frannie but damn.... I couldn't help but admire her strength, resilience and the momma bear love she has for her daughter Grace.
Now let's talk about Carey....
Sheriff Carey is A - Freakin - Mazing.... Seriously What a Swoony Man!!!
When Frannie is need of help he pushes his past hurt aside and does not hesitate to try and keep her safe.

This slow burning/beautiful love story and all of its action, suspense, angst, subtle sexual tension and twists and turns grabbed me from from the first page and had me utterly captivated until the very last word.
Greta and her wonderful storytelling was once slayed my emotions with this heartbreakingly raw and truly beautiful story.
I adored each of these characters and couldn't help but root for them and pray for a HEA. The growing relationship between Grace and Carey was so sweet and heartwarming and the slow burning reconnection between Frannie and Carey was an emotional ride that was so worth it in the end.
And....
Another one of my favourite parts??? Catching up with the Cade brothers of course. My love for this entire family is still burning strong.
With a few little hints of what's to come all I can say is I can't wait for more of this series!!

I highly recommend this read!!

Drama and Suspense

It's true - "Braving the rapids isn't easy, but maybe it's what you need."

This story was very intense from start to finish. Teton County Sheriff Carey Michaels, Francesca (Frannie) and her daughter Grace, not to mention 'dumbass' husband Doug Morris and the 'rollercoaster ride' of Frannie's father and sister Jillian will take you on one heck of a ride down the rapids. There is a whole lot of stuff going on in this story that will keep you interested and you will want to help figure out what is going on and whom is doing what..... and why!

"Why do you always gotta make helping you so damn difficult? There's a river between us, Frannie. I'm on one bank and you're on the other, and no matter what I do or say, I can't get to you!" (pg. 200)

ANOTHER MISTAKE: Why did it always take doing the worst thing for Frannie to realize the best?

Pages 221-222 will make you laugh for sure. Here Carey gets a little comical.

Frannie gets her mojo back, her backbone, making a full comeback when she drives to Cheyenne to see her father and this is when she finds out what Jillian has been up to, but she still confronts her father after more than a decade of feeling like she and Grace didn't matter to him. Then she hightails it back to Carey and Grace. It only gets better. (pgs. 231-235)

A WEEK OF BLISS: Frannie's divorce from Doug came through within a week from when the Governor promised to see it through, and she personally delivered the papers to Frannie.

Yup, Frannie and Carey tie the knot pretty quick but his mama wants them to have a real wedding and reception. Mama is going to take care of Grace and the baby so they can have a honeymoon. "BABY!"

This story is something directly out of the Twilight Zone. Happy reading!
