We live in an age of anxiety. Amidst climate change and natural disasters, a troubled economy, and one of the largest global pandemics in modern history--is it any wonder our kids are anxious and stressed out? Add in the pressures inherent in social media and consumerist culture, as well as the pressure of academic success, and you've got a recipe for disaster. The good news is that you can help your child manage anxiety and stress--no matter what life throws their way. This book will show you how. Written by two pioneering experts in child psychology and anxiety, The Resilience Recipe offers an evidence-based plan grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help kids build emotional resilience and adaptability, worry less, and thrive--despite the stressors of modern life. With this guide, you'll learn to help kids feel more in control of their moods and emotions; cope with difficult experiences; and recognize the first signs of stress and anxiety in both their mind and body, so they can find quick relief. You'll also discover a wealth of tips and strategies to help you manage your own anxiety. Most importantly, you'll find a solid action plan to help your child feel strong and capable in the face of unprecedented challenges.
THANK YOU for writing this book. I will be buying a copy when it comes out to have as reference. My top 5 reasons to immediately read this book. 1. The FEAR method S-P-E-L-L-E-D out with concrete ways to approach it with your kids. 2. The emphasis on normalizing negative emotions so they’re not embarrassing or shameful. YES. 3. Situation - Thought - Feeling illustrations. 4. As a parent - adapting a lifestyle of approach (ie, don’t solve the problem). 5. Multiple examples of meditation for kids. So helpful.
Truly believe this book will save families. Especially during a pandemic. Thank you.
Everyone needs this book! I learned so much! The book is well researched, but explains fear and anxiety so simply that it is easy to understand and explain to children. Very powerful knowledge to have.
This was a very easy to read and implement guide to supporting a child with anxiety. Unlike many of these kinds of books, this is not overly clinical but was written for busy parents who want practical ways to help their child. There are lots of concrete examples and scripts as well as free worksheets to facilitate the process. The authors also explain what approaches and interventions don't work and why they don't work. The authors are upfront that the process takes time, that attempts and progress should be celebrated, and that the end result is a lifestyle shift but it felt at times overly optimistic at the pace of change that is possible. I also wish they had addressed supporting a child with significant anxiety, helping a child that is unwilling to engage in the process, and supporting older teens who are self-medicating.
“There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice but there must never be a time when we fail to protest”
This was a masterfully written historical fiction with all of its tidbits of history explored. It goes in my top ten of all time for sure :)
I loved learning about the Edelweiss Pirates, the protest of the German wives and the art restitution projects returning stolen books!! It was intriguing to see how families within Germany had both a Nazi, Bund Deutscher Mädel, & protestors in groups like the pirates who had to grapple with their differing views. The ending of this was supremely satisfying and I am thankful I dove in to this gripping tale.
4.5⭐ I loved this book, and I think it's super applicable to raising kids today. It gives good ways for you to help your kid think through stressful moments. I will for sure read again. The only reason it's not 5 stars is bc the author does go into some person opinions at the very end, and I didn't love that. Otherwise, would recommend!
Having a child with anxiety is tough. This book provided wonderful resources on how to better help her and I work through her mental & physical feelings together.
