There are certain rules of friendship that are pretty much written in stone:
Don’t hit on your buddy’s girl. Back your buddy up when he gets into a bar fight. Bail your buddy out when he gets hauled in by the sheriff for "requisitioning" a pair of goats. Helping your buddy’s kid brother lose his virginity? Yeah, that’s not on the list.
It starts as a simple favor. Now that he’s home from college, my best friend’s brother Tucker needs a place to stay and I happen to have a spare room.
Then it becomes a confession. Tucker tells me he’s a virgin. And he’s on a mission to swipe that V card once and for all.
Ultimately, it turns into a challenge. While Tucker searches for the perfect guy to pop his cherry, I find myself growing more and more agitated with the situation.
I know why, of course. He’s my best friend’s brother, a kid I’ve watched grow up; it’s perfectly normal for me to want to protect him from all the assholes and users targeting him via his way-too-many dating apps.
It has nothing to do with the strange way my stomach seems to flip at the sight of his smile, or that the sound of his voice somehow makes me tingly all over. Or that I can’t seem to stop thinking about what it would be like to run my hands over his body.
Nothing at all….
Come visit Finchley, CA, where the sun’s always shining, the locals are always gossiping, and you won’t walk two steps without bumping into a member of the Goode family. If you’re lucky, you might find gold, or even better…true love.
Reread via audiobook 🎵Narrated by: Kale Williams🎵 After listening to him on these books, I need more. 💗
This is the shortest book in the series but I’ve always been smitten with Chance and because of that I’ve reread this more times than I can count. I find the townspeople so much more enjoyable on audiobook due to Kale’s voices. I’m really sad this author has abandoned this series because I really enjoyed 3 & 4 and the ones I am the most curious about were never written. She said in her newsletter that she hit a wall when writing this series and I hope someday she comes back to it. Original review below.
====================================== This is the last book in this series for 2021. It looks like Rock will be getting a book in 2022 and although he’s been mentioned multiple times, there are too many people in this god forsaken town to keep track of. However, his love interest will be Lincoln, the movie star, visiting Finchley’s very own Alice Ackerman. (His aunt?🤷🏻♀️). This book felt like it took the shortest amount of time to read yet had more tropes than any other entry in this series. All the other characters make their appearances as per usual. This one was also the cheesiest of all of them like I had a stupid smile on my face but wanted to slap myself at the same time.
In this book, Tucker comes home from college after rejecting a Pro Baseball offer and needs a place to stay so his sisters suggest Chance’s place since Lawson just moved out. Chance is best friend’s with Axel, Tucker’s older brother, so even though Chance knew Tucker, he’s never spent any time with him until now due to the 12 year age difference. They hang out a lot now though that they are roommates and they really enjoy each other’s company. But as far as Tucker knows, his crush can never go anywhere because Chance is straight, right?
This one was super fast paced and like the first one I felt like this would have been better had it been longer. However, I really liked Chance and Tucker and even though this was crazy fast, I liked them enough as a couple that I didn’t give a fuck. Once Chance was in, he was in and he didn’t want to just fuck around, he wanted to be with Tucker. I would have loved to see them spend more time getting to know each other without having sex constantly but it’s a novella 🤷🏻♀️ and their sex scenes were probably the hottest in this whole series. Hello sexual discovery. I’ll look out for the next one in 2022.
3.5 Fun & Steamy Stars!! 😍 🤩 So this was probably not the best in the series, but it was still quite enjoyable, full of humor and plenty of steam. Chance and Tucker seemed like an unlikely pair, at least from the previous books.... I hadn't felt any vibes. Nevertheless once they got together it got super hot🔥🔥...super fast. Tucker is gay but still a virgin, who's had a crush on Chance for as long as he can remember. But Chance is not only Tucker's eldest brother Axel's best friend; he's also very straight or is he? 🤔 Both have a chance 😉 to find out when Tucker moves back home (to Finchley) after accepting a job at the local school and instead of staying at his parents decides to rent the extra room at Chances'. There isn't much of a plot, just the usual Goode Family and Finchley residents shenanigans. The humor and witty banter is what works for me in IO's books. I'm also loving that we are getting to see all the previous paired off couples as they make cameos and how they are progressing in their lives. A bunch of new characters are introduced in this book; I believe IO has plans for all of them 😉 💘 Lincoln and Rock are next I think, to get their HEA. Then there's Axel, Gunnar or maybe someone new. I think by the time this series is done, the entire town of Finchley will be gay/bi 😍. More fun and books for us, so I for one don't mind at all❤️ Highly recommended to all fans of light, low-angsty, steamy M/M romances. You may want to read the previous books in this series for context, but it's not essential. 👍 👍
Really looking forward to reading this when it reappears on the face of the earth….seriously where’d this book go? I can’t find it anywhere.
Update: To be honest, this story felt a bit rush. I didn’t really see the romantic connection between Tucker and Chance. I don’t even think I saw much of their friendship. I will say the bed scenes were smoking hot though.
It's like it was written by a completely different author.
The writing was very good. The story was told beautifully. It didn't have a strong epilogue, but hey, I'll take what I can get in Finchley.
💜Age gap - 12 years
💚Best friend's little brother trope!
💙Great spice.
💛Wonderful visuals, although we still don't know in detail, but better than previous books.
🌈Gay-for-you story
🌞I really enjoyed the story🌞
Tucker is Axel's little, 22 year old brother; a baseball player, straight out of college. Tucker is crushing on Chance, Finchley's only lawyer and Axel's best friend. When Chance has a room to rent at his place, Tucker moves in.
Tucker is gay and he considers Chance a friend sort of, so he tells him he's a virgin and that he's hoping to find someone on the dating app. Little by little Chance realises he's drawn to Tucker, even though he's straight, and they finally get close. They take their time and even though their love story develops pretty fast, it's still more time than the previous books. It's believable.
What I loved💗
* I loved how Tucker, being younger and physically much bigger, is the dominant one and offers comfort to Chance.
*I loved Chance for taking that step and embracing this wonderful relationship. They're a sexy, sweet couple, I loved them together.
Cons🤍
*The story was, again, too short.
*The only thing I didn't like was mentioning of the surrogacy and marriage, it seemed Tucker and Chance were fine with their pace, so I thought it was a bit too much, coming from others.
FINALLY a book in the series I could read without my eye twitching all the time! 😄
I hope the author continues the series with Axel, Hart, Rock - all the great characters in this series, I really like them.
A solid 3.5 for me. A completely angst free, sugary sweet, best friends brother, gay-for-you romance.
Tucker returns home to take a on a coaching job alongside this big brother Axel. Due to an uncomfortable experience at home he quickly looks for somewhere new to live. Chance, Axels best friend happens to have a spare room and this Chance moves in and the fun begins. ..oh, let’s not forget that Tucker had had a crush on Chance for the longest time, despite being older and …”supposedly”😉 not playing for his team.
Whilst Tucker is 22, we find out quite early that he has managed to hold on to his v-card and he shares this bit of information with Chance. Cue some unsuccessful dating, lots of jealousy and lots of tension between the two MCs.
This book was a real good way read for me, there’s no drama and lots of quirky family and friends sprinkled into the story . Anything other than a HEA was guaranteed from the first turn of the page.
A steamy GFY story This was a lot of fun. Tucker is newly back in town and looking for a guy to take his virginity. Chance is Tucker's brother's best friend and gives Tucker a place to stay. Tucker has always had a crush on Chance but doesn't act on it because Chance is straight. While Tucker starts going on dates looking for a guy, Chance realises he feels something for Tucker and they start a relationship. They start out slow and I loved the discovery Chance went through. He's straight, just happens to love a man. There's zero angst about that. A good about of steams. A decent amount of shenanigans from the residents of the town and a brief catch up with the other couples too
I love the Goode family and every book that Ilsa has written about them. Goodreads says there are at least 3 more books coming and I hope that’s correct. All of these books are sweet with little angst.
Another lackluster read that I skimmed to finish. It was like someone hit the warp speed button on this relationship. No one goes from “straight” to “marry me and have my babies” that quickly. 😂
I like this series. Its funny, the sexy times are hot, there is good development in the characters with a good overall feel to the book. But this isn't a book.. This is 158 pages of rushed plot to probably meet some kind of deadline. Considering that this book was slated to arrive back in September, IO should have spend those extra two months to develop the relationship between the MCs then push the Sex = Love angle. It might, but the story feels anemic.
Tucker needs a play to stay. Being fresh out of college, he's living at home until his job starts in the fall. Unfortunately, he has the revolving soundtrack of geriatric porn going on at the most inopportune times. So comes the appeal for a new place in the form of his brother's best friend, Chance. Chance knows Tucker in peripheral due to the age difference between the oldest and youngest Goode. But he makes up for lost time. Tucker can't get someone into his bed, at least until Chance decides he might want that position.
They go from maybe trying to mess around to Chance begging for Tucker to bend him over & have a go. Ok.. a formerly straight guy becomes the needy bottom.. not outside of the realm of possibility. New characters are introduced. Chance's brother Hart, Lincoln, & Dominic. Lincoln is in lust after Rock Goode so that's one book. Patrick a blast from Axel's past might end up as his new squeeze. Hart could find that his younger brother's daddy needs a helping hand.. Who knows..
Its still a fun read but there is just so much lacking.
I just adored Chance and Tucker's story! It was super steamy, yet also really sweet at the same time. I liked how once Chance realized his feelings for Tucker went beyond platonic he was essentially all in. There was no huge big gay freak out, he just accepted he was attracted to Tucker and the two went full speed ahead. Reading about them both discovering new ways to enjoy each other was definitely hot. I mean we get not one, but TWO virgins in the ways of two men coming together. How can that not be off the charts?
As usual I also really loved the Finchley residents and all of their crazy. Every chapter starts with the famous FB town chat and all the gossip it entails. Honestly, I wish my town had one of those. It never fails to make me laugh at all the hilarious things being said.
Next up in the series is Rock coming in 2022. I had a feeling he would be getting his own book, and we actually get to meet his love interest in this one. At least, I think we do. It is definitely going to be an interesting read. I also can't help but hope Axel, Tuckers older brother, follows George and Chance's footsteps and ends up having a book of his own. The GFY/OFY trope is one of my favorites, right up there with enemies to lovers, and I'd love to read about Axel's downfall into love.
What a fun read. I love all the posts to the message board. And once Tucker and Chance gets it together they are amazing to read.Chance blaring best friends with Axel which is Tuckers older brother and it is fun to watch them keep everything on the downlow.
Lincoln and Rock might be something there. But I don’t know why I was thinking of Axel and Lincoln. Or maybe Axel and just somebody…
But maybe Lincoln and Rock got something or will have something going on. Because I did HOPE that Axel and even Gunner would good a book 🤞🏾 please !!!
I’m definitely more curious about Gunner because I was for sure thinking that Gunner and Chance was going to date. I wasn’t sure if they was family or not I forgot 😂 it’s so many of them. I was thinking the same thing as everyone else “who is Tucker?” Lol !!
But ohhhh Patrick! Okay that sounded weird lol 😂 but I was trying to say ohhh now I see something here, maybe Patrick and Axel had a thing or something I’m curious now…
Can I please get a book with these guys next lol 😂
Gunner and whomever the guy might be… Lincoln and Rock Axel and Patrick
Gah I’ll love that! I’m over here supposed to be reviewing this book but mentioning other people … lol 😂
Let me get to this review of Tucker and Chance…..
So anyways I never considered Chance with Tucker. I just assume that maybe he’ll end up with Gunner for some particular reason but as I come to know Tucker I see that Tucker was right for Chance.
Plus Chance wasn’t having it lol when it came to Tucker going on them dates. It took for Tucker to move into Chance’s place to before he actually figured out he liked the ‘D’. But only Tuckers of course.
Deep down he had a thing for guys it just takes that one person for you become attracted to I keep thinking that he could be pansexual or something.
In the end I’m glad that Axel wasn’t mad with them dating and stuff that’s a good thing.
This has a very sweet vibe to it. It wasn't my favorite in the series, but it was funny. It could also work as a standalone, but I loved reconnecting from previous cast members. The comments made by the citizens of Finchley were hilarious, I can't even imagine living in a community like that. The Goodes family members are all lovely, I love how everyone is so understanding and supportive of both Chance and Tucker.
Age gap (22 and 34), gay for you (ugh), brother’s best friend, small town romance, dual first-person POV.
My least favorite of the series so far. Still angst, homophobia, and misunderstanding free, but the gay-for-you trope is my least favorite thing in the world and really soured the book for me.
So cute! I loved Chance and Tucker! The whole "brother's best friend" thing is one of my favorites! Their chemistry and love for each other was addicting and I couldn't put it down!
3.5 stars. Just a sweet, no angst, GFY story. Young guy has a crush on older brother's straight friend; straight friend develops a crush on young guy. Tucker is such a sweetheart, almost too good to be true, and Chance is likewise, just a really nice sort. A good story, just two guys trying to work out a new, relationship. Nicely written, also sets up the next book.
This series is sooo Goode. I wish this book was longer as I want more of Chance and Tucker as friends and them falling for each other. “You can have me,” he assures me. “You can have everything.” Sigh, they’re adorable, steamy, and sweet. No angst with these two, just a whole lotta fun. Of course, we have to include the rest of the Goode family and the town as they’ll leave you smiling, even when you’re shaking your head at their antics. I have some hopeful thoughts about who the next Goode will be that topples into love, but whatever happens as long as we get to spend more time in Finchley, I’m sold.
Taken by Chance is the fourth book in the the Goode Life series by Isla Olsen. This book is about Chance and Tucker. It's a virgin and best friends little brother romance. It was sweet, sexy, fun and well written.
This was such an easy book to read. Great characters and amazing secondary characters. The Finchley community chat line was hilarious, the book is worth reading for that alone. It's a sweet sexy read and hardly any drama.
I'm absolutely loving The Goode Life series. So much so that when the ARC for Taken by Chance (thank you GRR!) landed in my inbox, I wasted no time whatsoever in getting my grubby little hands on it and reading it straightaway! Taken by Chance is amazing and easily the best book in the series! Chance and Tucker are fabulous characters (hot too but anyway!) and I love everything about this book. The only downside is that now I've finished this one, I've got to wait ages for the next book in the series!
Quick Cute Fluffy low angst read. Tucker Goode needs to get out of his parents house and moves in with his oldest brothers best friend. Tucker is looking to lose his virginity after leaving college. Straight Chance wants Tucker to take a Chance with him.
Isla Olsen's "Taken By Chance" from her The Goode Life series:

I love, love, love this small town. I know small towns are better in books or on TV/in movies (I'm from a small town, it's not like Stars Hollow at all), but this one is so cute. The town-bitties are so damn nosey and annoyingly helpful. And their constant Facebook posts are both second-hand-embarrassing and totally fucking hilarious. Not sure if I ever said that on one of my The Goode Life posts, but it needed said now.
Oh. My. God. Honestly. This book. (this series). was so. damn. good. Like I read this book in less than 3 hours. I kept waiting for the angst, and, spoiler alert, there was like none (just the stuff from the blurb--will they, won't they (get together--tell Axel)). And, fuck, when they told Axel, I read that chapter twice, laughing both times and basically highlighting the entire thing.
It was a little confusing remembering which set of boys/men were couples and who wasn't (then again, I read so fast usually that my brain doesn't usually remember names in general). But Isla hinted at two separate couples in future books, and I'm so fucking down for that.
I went into Taken by Chance with the same high expectations I go into every Isla Olsen book with and I was so pleased to not be disappointed. She once again delivers a hilarious and steamy low angst love story that had me unable to tear my eyes from the page and smiling when the book was over.
Taken By Chance is the story of Finchley, California's town lawyer, Chance, and his best friend's little brother, Tucker Goode. Chance is straight. He has never questioned this. He has never been attracted to another man. Then his best friend's little brother, Tucker, moves in with him now that his former roommate, Lawson, has moved out. When he finds out that Tucker is on a quest to lose his virginity, he finds himself strangely uneasy with it - especially as he starts to notice Tucker in a more, shall we say adult manner.
However, this is not a bisexual awakening story, because Chance never identifies as anything other than straight. He just happens to fall in love with a man. Tucker and Chance's story is absolutely adorable, filled with the same heat and humor I've come to expect from this author. The town of Finchley is once more filled with colorful characters and Facebook interactions that have me rolling. Both of our main characters are incredibly well developed as are the side characters we've come to know throughout the series. We get great updates on the couples from the first three Goode Life novels, but the book can easily be read as a standalone.
It is incredibly low angst and starts out in a manner that pulls you in immediately and makes you wonder how the hell Tucker and Chance got into that situation in the first place. I would've personally loved to see how they got out of it, rather than a passing reference of the opening situation closer to the end of the book, but that is honestly my only complaint with the book.
Well that and the fact that it ended and I had to re-enter the real world and leave behind the colorful warmth of Finchley, California and the hilarous people who live there. (Also I believe I've possibly identified the next two books of the series...)
