So, look. It was just a few small mistakes, all right? People make those!Nevertheless, my specific errors ended up putting me in feline purgatory for multiple centuries. The disruption in my 'life' continued until the powers that be decided that my particular brand of Viking might once again be useful.Do you think I jumped at the opportunity?Like a cat on a bag of catnip!Out of kitty jail, back into life ... or, more accurately, Death.Even though the guys in charge considered her 'old,' Agnes wasn't any more ready for her new job than I was to be her bodyguard. But, so be it.I also wasn't prepared to fall in love with her but, you know, hairballs happen. Now there's the not-so-small matter of dealing with that along with assisting the ushering of souls into the hereafter, fighting off Oddities (who may or may not want to do her harm), and contending with my new bosses (each one quirky as a corkscrew), all while brutally battling with modern technology.I, Magnus, am prepared for the challenge!
I had great hopes for this book….the context of the plot was different from what I usually read, the main character was a cat…but it never seemed to go anywhere. There didn’t seem to be any depth to the characters or the story. In fact, I thought about not finishing it but decided to see it to the end hoping for a grand twist. Didn’t happen…will not be reading any sequels.
Death has been assigned to a Reaper who did not do her job well~ Agnes is too kindhearted and did not reap some souls assigned to her. Bob and Kevin are the two in charge of Reapers, Death, and a cat, who was once a Viking named, Magnus. When Agnes meets him, she instantly names him Muffin. He is supposed to be her bodyguard. They actually have him in place to keep an eye on her and ensure she does her job correctly. It seems the two in charge have problems with games, not remembering things correctly, and forget to tell him and Agnes important information about the souls she reaps. Oddities, or otherworld beings, that have not been seen in ages are coming out of the woodwork because of her. Magnus discovers he will turn back into his original shape when Agnes is seriously threatened. So many rules to follow, but they are meant to be broken or gotten around. One new Reaper will help clue Magnus in on many details and safety nets. The relationship between Death and Magnus is odd at times but we will see what becomes of it. The book seems to end on a cliffhanger? So, hopefully there is another pending in the series because there are too many unanswered questions and speculations. The book moves a little slowly but is a great read! I am cheering for Magnus and Agnes~
I'll be honest, I do not usually read this genre. It has never appealed to me. This book though was just awesome!! It is well written, and full of laughter. And you can tell the author knows cats. This story is about death, who is the one who takes you when you die. Death's name is Agnes and she has a big heart. She didn't want to do her job, so they brought in Magnus who is a cat because he got in trouble and was punished by being turned into a cat to help protect her. They go to earth to get a soul and Death is threatened by Brownies and Magnus takes off after the Brownies and turns into a huge, butt necked Viking in air. He can change back into his Viking body, if death is threatened.
I laughed so hard when death saw who her cat protector really was. Oh and she really liked him lol I don't want to give away to much!!! But this book is just amazing. I loved how there were a lot of paranormal creatures, you will also meet a person from history that you will love. The way there are two in charge of everything one good and one bad was great also. Give this book a chance, I did and I still laugh when I think about it!!!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I can't even begin to explain the setting, but part of it is the place where souls gather while waiting to be processed to their final place. Agnes is the new 'Death' and Magnus was a Viking in his former life but now he's a cat that protects Death. It's really a fun read!
