Desperate to provide for her younger sister and needing money, Lady Ellisia agrees to marry King Odjen, a stranger from the enemy lands of Brumous. A betrothal between the “barbarian” King Odjen of Brumous could bring peace between their warring countries. The problem?
King Odjen will have nothing to do with her.
Commander Valen, the right-hand man and friend of the king, quickly falls for Ellisia, but with the disapproval of the king overshadowing their betrothal, can they find a way to maintain their love and help end the decades-long the war?
Get ready for a warrior who knows what (or rather who) he wants, and a lady who needs some good lovin’ in her life.
For readers who want a happily ever after (HEA) and are 18+.
Scarlet Duvale writes steamy fantasy stories to curl your toes. She enjoys writing stories with hunky warriors who are determined to show their ladies some good lovin'.
She can usually be found in bookstores or cafes writing away with a cup of coffee. If she's at home, she can be found with her cat (who likes to follow her around like a piece of Velcro and interrupts writing sessions). Scarlet really just writes to afford treats for her needy cat.
All of Scarlet's stories are happily ever after (HEA) and 18+.
This was...insanely good. I had limited hopes for this books, as there were no reviews and the author was unknown, but I'm certainly going to be following Scarlet Duvale from now on. There were a few typos in the kindle version, but regardless the content was fantastic.
I had forgotten this was 18+ when I started reading, so I was a bit shocked when I got to the steamy parts...but damn! I want a Valen! On a scale of 1-5, I'd give this a 4 when it comes to spice. The sex is there, and it's certainly wonderful, but there weren't any moments I was questioning the logistics of the scenes or baffled by what was happening. (Still, damn, so good!)
Valen and Ellisia are adorable together and I loved how their instant attraction was explained. (No hints, it would be a spoiler in my opinion.) I also loved how that explanation spilled over into the cliffhanger and the prompt of the next story. I think the point here is that I loved this and I will be (im)patiently awaiting both the epilogue on Duvale's website AND the next book.
I hope future installments will continue to show Valen and Ellisia's future and wrap up the loose ends in characters like Lucie and Calia, who we left in unstable positions but without confirmation that they'll star in future installments.
I'm invested in this world now. And I love it.
Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book via goodreads giveaway, but all opinions are my own.
I want to thank Scarlet Duvale, author and Goodreads First Reads Giveaway for the ebook Kindle copy of The Warrior's Bride ~ Brides of Brumous ~ Book 1 that I won in the Giveaway.
Ellisa travels to Brumous as part of a group of brides to unite Apricots in peace with Brumous. She ends up with Valen, the captain of the king's guards. The plot involves rejection, an attempted assassin, a secret wedding, a trip to the tribes of the North with a surprise ending and a bit of a cliffhanger into the next love story in the series.
Thank you to Scarlet Duvale and Goodreads.com I won this book in a Giveaway.
This entire book felt very rushed, it could have been at least 100 pages more and had more things explained and the settings more described. It was a very quick and easy read, albeit some minor mistakes that I reported. Overall it was a good book, definitely will read Book 2 !
This book was pretty good! I think I personally could have used more character introduction. It seemed to all just start pretty fast. I had a hard time relating to the characters because I felt just thrown into it. Quite spicy, but not unrealistic. I’m glad this had way more of a plot than just spice.
I won this book in a giveaway. I had to stop reading this book. I thought it was going to be a more relaxed romance story did not realize I was reading full blown on explicit pleasure scense. I don't mind a little but this was to much for me. I give it a 3 because from what I did read I really liked the story line so far.
