Meadow Street Brothers #4

Guarding His Enemy

Rate this book
How do you NOT fall in love with your bodyguard?
You make him your enemy, of course.

Phinny doesn't need a husband or a family. So what if all his Brothers have been getting married and having children? Those are things people tell him he should want. Not things he actually wants. Never mind that he's been secretly looking at pictures of babies. Never mind that his heart fills with deeper yearning with every wedding he attends.

Unbeknownst to him, his Brothers have set him up with the best alpha possible: his bodyguard.

Blaze is twenty-six to Phinny's forty-four. He's young, full of distrust, and from the way Phinny ruins their first meeting? He hates Phinny.

In order to protect his heart, Phinny needs them to be enemies. But the way Blaze holds him, the way Blaze starts to see him for who he really is... It terrifies him.

They can't get so close. Or can they?

Guarding His Enemy can be read as a standalone, but why would you? :D It's 81k of Enemies-to-Lovers awesomeness, with non-shifter MPreg, May/Dec, Boss/Employee, lots of romance, and way too many jokes.

Oh no - screams in sadness - I have been waiting for Phinny's story since I first read about him in book one but this did not deliver.

The Phinny I saw in the other books was sassy, strong, and unapologetic. The yearning he felt to have a baby was something we slowly see as the books progress and I couldn't wait to read his HEA, but this book was all over the place - I'm sorry.

Here, we see a Phinny who is whinny, who sounds and acts like a child - not like the adult he is. The way he and Blaze meet is just so abrupt and the image he portrays is so unlike him. I understand Phinny doesn't need an alpha but the way he pushes Blaze, pokes him around, and just irritates him for no reason is so frustrating - it wasn't even cute.

Phinny's past is horrible - he was used and thrown away which is what makes him so against having an alpha. This is understandable but the way he treats Blaze who is just there to do his job is so stupid. Blaze was patient and was a bit smarter on his approach to Phinny but he wasn't a doormat so he would lower himself to Phinny's level which wasn't cute.

The whole enemy dynamic didn't stand because there was no reason for Phinny to hate on Blaze - after all, Blaze was a bodyguard doing his job. Yes, he was an alpha but he wasn't there to jump on Phinny's bone, just protect him from the 'stalker'.

I'm sorry, I TRIED liking this book for Phinny who has been my favorite character with Nate since book one but it was another disappointment. I feel bad giving this book such a low rating especially because everyone seems to have loved it - maybe I read something completely different. I just couldn't connect with the story or the characters.

Guarding His Enemy
By Anna Wineheart

Just like all books by Anna Wineheart I loved this one too. It was hilarious from Phinny stealing Blaze's boxers and claiming them as his own to announcing Blaze must call him 'Your Majesty'. There was a bit of mystery trying to figure out who Phoenix's stalker was and some action too. Along with a whole lot of loving.

It was mostly written in Phinny's POV, with a few chapters in Blazey's. It was very well written and I couldn't wait to get to the end.

Triggers: Mentions of past physical abuse and stalking.

His Majesty and the Bodyguard.

I was drinking and literally choked when I reached chapter 12, Grand Theft Underwear, 😂😲 This is the strangest of Anna's pairings and the feistiest!! I am convinced Phinny had major issues. The way he greeted Blaze at first sight. The way he acted at the cabin. They both had mad attraction for each other, but Phinny's clapback really worked on Blaze. Both were hurtful, but both were fighting nature..

"I was just going back to Narnia," Phinny said. Oh my gawd, classic!!!!

This is definitely now my favorite Anna book. OMG, I wanted to start all over again and read it. I laughed throughout this book. I loved the thought of Alpha and younger man Blaze and the older omega Phinney, who since his appearance in the Meadow Street Brothers series, never thought that love and happy ever after was a part of his life.

Blaze was the perfect match...tit for tat with Phinney and keeping him on his toes. Their play fights were so outrageous that I could not help myself from saying, get together already. There was intensity in the chemistry and the want, even as they both fought against it.

Best plot ever! King and Nate won this round. I cannot find one part of this book I didn't like, even the drama that came to Phinny's doorstep. Glad I got a good one to wipe the stench of 2020 off.

I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author [and secondly via KU].

Phinny is definitely a firecracker hiding a marshmallow and we get to see him become his comfortable self as his relationship with Blaze goes from enemies to lovers!

Loves the snarkiness, the scheming, the jokes and the fridge was clever!

This should be read as part of the series for maximum enjoyment!

Like omg..

This was my favorite story so far out of all the meadowfall books. I loved Phinny and Blaze and I am happy that Phinny found his HEA. I do want to point out that I laughed really hard when the underwear scene happened. It was really funny and I hope more of these scenes show up in future books.

And for the first time, I walk away not being afraid to look at a food product.

I love all the books in this series, and Book 4 was a great read with Phoenix’s (Phinney) grumpy demeanor! I was excited to find out how Phoenix’s past played into the unhappy man he was in the present. He didn’t want or need an Alpha, but the man secretly carved to have an Alpha of his own to raise their child together. Just like most of his brothers had a mate and family; he tries to hide his jealousy by being an angry man.

You’ll find out in the book who was the person who ruined Phoenix’s career and his heart for any other Alpha to get close to him. Phoenix’s brother, King, came up with a scheme to push Phoenix into having to hire a bodyguard; a crude joke, but it got Phoenix to hire someone King knows and recommended.

From the moment the two met, it was like oil and water, especially with Phoenix’s constant put-downs and sass, but then Blaze caught on to how Phoenix ticked; as Blaze slowly got to know who the real Phoenix was under his mask he put on. I couldn’t fathom putting up with all that snarkiness. So the book has comical scenes in many places between Blaze, the bodyguard and, Phoenix with all his snarkiness towards the Alpha bodyguard.

I love a good mystery. All brothers knew whom the “stalker” was leaving a blue envelope in
Phoenix’s mailbox. But when Phoenix and Blaze are at Phoenix’s cabin for a vacation, no one knew who the second stalker was. And at a worse time, with Phoenix and Blazes’ attraction to each other, their bantering and insults escalated as the two tussled and taunted each other and things start to get hot.

The two finally come to a meeting of their ways to love one another; the invader and stalker in Phoenix’s house are dealt with, and Phoenix’s dreams come true with the Alpha who stole his heart, and a HEA ending after all the turmoil the couple went through together. Gosh, I loved this book.

This is definitely one of my favourites of the series. From the first moment Phinny opens the door to his new bodyguard, Blaze, their relationship goes from snark to heat and straight back again, never quite sure how serious one is over the other but it's a lot of fun to read.
My heart went out to Phinny as it's clear what he really wants in his life but his history has shown him that he can't have it. Blaze, however, is nothing like his ex or what Phinny expected and so it becomes harder to keep his distance, both physically and emotionally. Blaze is confounded by Phinny at first with no clue as to why the older omega would talk and act the way he does but he's still the man he's there to protect and draws Blaze in like no one before.
It's funny, sweet, hot and endearing but of course, Phinny is also his own worst enemy on occasion but Blaze stands up to the task. This is a really great alpha/omega mpreg romance with one really quirky omega and an alpha who knows just how to treat him right. And it wouldn't be as entertaining without the rest of the Meadow Street Brothers and their meddling ways. Definitely looking forward to the next with Nate hopefully getting his own HEA.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

I loved Phinny and Blaze so much! I honestly didn’t think I was going to like this that much as I’m really not a big fan of enemies to lovers stories but the way this was written was perfect and I would definitely read more enemies to lovers books if it written was more like this one, (and by “like this one” I mean they don’t actually hate each other they just act like it so as not to get too close to someone, or at least one of them.) The brothers were hilarious and I loved the added touch of them having they’re own chat group talking about Phinny, lol, can’t say to much on that without spoiling it.

I don’t think I’ve ever been through such a long book so fast, it only took me like a day and a half (with my reading pace, a 50 page book still takes me a couple of hours.)

Although I typically don’t like to read books where the MCs are police officers, FBI, undercover or people who have action jobs like that, I actually really do hope that Nate and Taylor are next because I’m hoping they’re story will lead to Murphy getting a story when they (hopefully) find him!!!

I really liked this one. I'm so glad I continued with this series, this story made it worth it. I wouldn't necessarily call this an enemies to lovers story but Phinny and Blaze were definitely combatants at the beginning. It was laugh out loud funny in places and had some very sweet moments with a tiny bit of drama added in. Phinny and Blaze didn't jump each other on every page, but that's not to say they didn't jump each other at the drop of a hat. There was a better balance between the amount of story and the amount of sex and I for one am very happy about that. I need more story less sex and that wasn't the case in the previous book, I hope that continues with the rest of this series.

Another Meadow Street Brother finds his mate! Phinny has always closed himself off from any emotions. He learned the hard way what trusting and loving the wrong person can do to you. When Blaze enters his life Phinny cannot stop his emotions from coming back to the forefront and he does not know what to do. No matter what Blaze says or does Phinny knows he cannot trust an alpha again only his heart will not let him give Blaze up.

This is a wonderful story of trust and belief in love. Phinny and Blaze make a great couple. I loved seeing the two fight their way to a happy ever after. Each time they seem to find it the past rears its head and Phinny and Blaze find themselves lost. Phinny is a great character and I loved that Blaze saw the real man behind the act. The two have something special and it shows in all that they do. Their banter is hilarious and seeing the underwear take on such a prominent role with these two was both hilarious and sweet. Their story is a beautiful addition to this series, and I cannot wait for the next brother to get his story told.

Skip the first impression, let's go onto the second, please! Phoenix/Phinny, longed for a baby. He dreampt of them. Corey, his housekeeper was about to take 2 weeks vacation and he'd be alone. He realized he had to deal with the anonymous letters he was receiving that were getting more intimidating. The messages appeared a bit juvenile, but they still made Phinny uncomfortable. Blaze accepted the job as bodyguard. He was entrusted with care of his 17yo cousin, Sandy-O, whom he considered competent to handle herself. But, she was all the family he had left. His brother, Murphy-O disappeared one day, so Blaze was always in protective mode. Phoenix laid down some serious shade, when he first met Blaze and he kept it up out ofself preservation. This set the foundation for an interesting conflicting relationship. Can Blaze overcome his dislike of Phinny? Can Phinny let his protective shields down? Can Blaze protect Phinny from the unknown? Do they find the person harrassing Phinny? A bit scary. A lot funny. With a bit of sweet thrown in. Nice story.

Blaze is hired by a mysterious stranger to be free to be the bodyguard for Phineas. Phineas calls after receiving mysterious notes in the mail - they look like they're from a child but he;s worried because they're addressed directly to his home address.
Phinny deliberately uses his diva act when Blaze starts work with him & puts Blaze offside - hes uses his act to hide his inner self.
Thru Phinny's running, stalkers who arent stalkers, unexpected stlkers, friends and family - Phinnys love story is a fun read.
Lots of typical Anne euphanisms, funny escapades and hints of new romantic characters - loved it.
Only have a few questions - why did the bad apple come back after him and what was the reason for the need for a baby & will we find out in the next book? Is it tied to the kidnapping of Blaze's brother? Just makes you want to keep reading the series.

I've been waiting for Phinny's book so excitedly, and this delivers everything that I wanted it to be. Blaze was Phinny's perfect alpha - he was self assured and able to let Phinny be himself, while still being a protector and companion. I love a good enemies to lovers story, and this was pretty much perfect.

The one thing that I wish that we had more clarity over is Zester. What would having kids with Phinny have done for him? Why did he suddenly become active again after so long without any contact? How did he get into the neighborhood? Why didn't any of the brothers seem to be bothered by how easily he got access to Phinny? I felt that this was a plotline that needed to be addressed, but was dropped completely, instead.

I'm very excited to see how things develop with Nate and Taylor!

A STORY THAT SHOWS HOW FAR ONE WILL GO TO PROVE THEIR LOVE

I received this book for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review

Phoenix Blues, Phinny, is a cantankerous omega that pines for an alpha and a baby, but he doesn’t trust alphas because of a bad experience. The Meadow Street Brothers trick him into getting a bodyguard, Blaze. Phinny and Blaze have an instant attraction but Phinny goes out of his way to make Blaze hate him. Blaze does until he sees the real Phoenix Blues.

A real threat comes to Phinny in the form of his ex and Blaze goes through everything to keep Phinny safe and prove that he loves him.

This story has outrageous flirtation, cruel truths, plays on beliefs of inadequacy and is full of self-sacrifice. It will bring you tears of frustration, joy and laughter.

Phinny's story

Long awaited book in the series, Phinny who has far too much snark, attitude and over the last few books far too much mouth in general. But the Brothers knew there was a tender omega under all of that and all that he needed was an Alpha.

Phinny had a long bad background full of loss and hatred, but was that any reason to act the way he did especially with a new bodyguard, Blaze had done nothing to deserve that kind of torture.

This is a great book, full of snark, hatred, passion, mpreg, made me laugh and of course we get our HEA. It helps to read the other books in the series first but can be read as a stand alone. Can't wait for further books in this series, also check out the bonus chapters if you can.

Guarding His Enemy is the fourth book in the Meadow Street Brothers series by author Anna Wineheart. This story is an MMpreg story, with really cute chapter names. This should be read in order, will help you understand the characters better.

Phinny is an Omega. Sassy and snarky. He is strong. He doesn’t want to rely on anyone. Singer Phoenix Blues.

Blaze is an Alpha bodyguard. He is full of distrust. When Phinny gets a stocker, he gets to be the bodyguard for him. Blaze helps raise his 17-year-old omega cousin. She is the only family he has now. He is happy to guard his favorite singer.

These two have a lot of bumps along the road to love. Mostly misunderstandings, I like how they worked them out. There is heat and love in the pages of this book. I cannot wait for the next one in this series.

This proves that the grass isn't always greener and you shouldn't envy someone for what they have as you don't know what they did/went through to get it. Phinny has been bitchy throughout this series but his story isn't one of sunshine and roses but he is contrary and bloody hilarious.

Phinny lacks trust and has deep fears and this vulnerability turned him into a hurtful bastard to Blaze, which was cruel. He even hurt Nate so that he'd leave.

Blaze is a man with hurts and vulnerabilities of his own but he has great depth and strength of character and is perfect for His Majesty.

A really good book and my favourite of the series. It had me laughing as much as Piper Scott's Forbidden Desires series!
I hope others enjoy it as much as I did.

I think that Pheonix was so broken at one point that he tried so hard to put himself back together, but the way that he did it was with paper mache. He thought that it was stronger than it was, but there kept being so many little cracks that he would just paper over. I think that generally he was happy and content with his life, but there were things that really hurt him so much. He really did have a sweet and tender core in there.

I don't really think that Phinny wanted to make Blaze his enemy, but he wanted to protect himself, and I totally get that. No one wants to put themself in a place where they might get hurt.

I think that Blaze is really good for Phinny, and he will keep him happy.

Still don’t know how to feel

I think this book actually made the most sense in the logic department, but not sure if that’s saying much for this series. I would’ve liked it a bit more if Phinny’s ex didn’t pop up randomly and then no one mentions it again. And then after everything, he didn’t get a simple apology from his “brothers”. That seems like a problem if his so called friends fake stalk him, he almost dies from a real stalker and all they care about is if he has an alpha. I would think his “brothers” would be sympathetic and know some things he’s been through, but either way it was pointless having his ex in a chapter and we don’t even know why. To break him more? It had been years, why now?

LOVED BLAZY AND PHINNY!!!! ❤️

These two are absolutely on my best Meadowfalls couples list!!

There were funny moments and loving moments and hot moments, and I loved them all!!!
Oh gosh the pickle and strawberry sandwich… uggghhh these two!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Bearing in mind that I haven’t liked Phinny throughout the Brothers’ series, but he bloomed in this with Blaze… it was beautiful!

Even the climax scene that I usually scheme through because it’s usually so ‘copy and paste and eye roll’ actually read more realistic and believable in this one… still not perfect, but TONS better.

Disclaimer: I don’t read these books for the alpha-saving-omega action, they’re more - easy reads to pass the time, and sometimes a nugget is thrown at me, like with this one. ❤️

Unable to put down this majestic piece of writing, A must read

I absolutely love this book, my favorite so far, it is about a man who thinks that he is broken while another thinks he is absolutely perfect, especially for him . A man who was lost , but he was just waiting to be what his was a Phoenix waiting to rise from the ashes and a with the help of a man fueling the flames to make his dreams come true . While they get of on the wrong foot, it ends beautifully just like the Phoenix soar up lifting the hearts up to the sky. Anna Wine heart has a way with words and drawing you in , a must read.

This was my favorite book so far by this author. Phinny used snark and insults to keep Blaze at a distance, due to trauma in his past. Blaze was made of strong stuff, and it didn't take him long to see through Phinny's nonsense.
It was fun watching these two tease each other as they fell in love, and it was great to see Blaze slowly prove to Phinny that he was worthy of love. Blaze had his own insecurities, and I occasionally wanted to hug him when Phinny hurt his feelings. I loved Blaze's cousin and Phinny's "brothers," and I hated Phinny's evil ex.
I enjoyed this romance, and am glad it was my first read of 2021.

So dramatic.
Phinny being childish was okay, I don’t mind that(when I thought he was about 35yo).
The problem is the writing. It’s tacky, not sure how to describe it but I hate it. Guess it’s just the author’s style…
AND the third act breakup. I hated it sooooo much. Blazy acts like he doesn’t know anything about Phinny, which makes sense since it was fresh relationship, but he acted like he understood everything about Phinny throughout the book.
I really wanted to like this author’s books, but I don’t think I’d try any more after this.

I really enjoy these stories. Phinny has been silently stewing as his friends have found their mates and had children. Not that he is mad, just disappointed because he doesn't think he will ever have a family. These two were entertaining and bumped heads from the beginning but Blaze soon began to see through Phinny's mask. I can't wait for Nate's book next.

I absolutely loved this book!

Phinny is whiny, selfish, entitled, bratty and so sassy. I loved every moment of him pushing Blaze away and with it drawing him in.
There's nothing better than reading about Phinny stealing Blaze's boxers, hoarding them like a dragon, or going full koala on Blaze's pillow.

It's nothing that I didn't love in this story, it have the hurt/comfort, age gap, angsty moments, scorching passion, sweetness and a ton of humour.

Pure joy

Phinny is a wonderfully, ridiculous, lovely mess that Blaze, his new bodyguard, seems unable to keep within the confines of a strictly business relationship. Phinny is an omega like no other and Blaze is alpha enough to take pride in that. They're enemies, they're friends, they're... majestic fun! ;-)

If you haven't read the previous books in the series, please go back and do so. It'll make their story so much more than just theirs. Promise you will thank Anna for ALL the cookey puns and Found Family antics.

Wonderful love story

Omega Phoenix, or Phinney, was hiding away from the world after terrible experiences with an alpha when his friends, the Brothers, instigated the hiring of a bodyguard. Phinney was totally unaware of their involvement. Alpha Blaze, aka "Blazy", is the best of professional bodyguards, as researched by the Brothers. Ahhh, but also selected for his other qualities. Prickly Phinney and patient, open-minded Blaze. A wonderful love story.
