My grandfather’s death should have meant freedom for me.
His homophobia is the reason my whole life has been a lie. But my brothers and I stand to inherit the family ranch—the only place I want to call home—under one hell of a I have to be married.
My best friend Becca stepped in—we decided to get married and pretend for just long enough to meet my legacy-obsessed grandfather’s dying demand. Then I’d really be free.
I might have survived it—if I hadn’t met Adam Jackson. He’s everything I’ve always wanted but never dared to hope for, and it’s so much more than the electricity I feel when I touch him. I’d marry him in a heartbeat. But that’s not the deal.
Choosing Adam now would mean throwing away everything. But giving up a future with him might be even worse.
Picture the world’s steamiest cowboy fantasy, and it’s still nowhere near as hot as Colby Bradley.
Since my roommate Becca introduced us, I haven’t stopped thinking about him—and everything I want to do to him.
One huge Colby is about to inherit one of the biggest ranching operations in the state, and it all hinges on him marrying Becca.
Before I met him, I might have said I could ride it out, waiting for the man of my dreams to finish playing house with someone else. But the wedding hasn’t even happened yet, and it’s already killing me.
I can’t ask him to choose me over the ranch. But I can hope like hell he does.
This is the second book in the Bradley Brothers series. It can be read as a standalone with no cliffhanger.
This is the 2nd book in this series. You don't have to read the first one to read this one, but it is better if you do. Colby thought now that his over bearing grandfather passed away that he and his brother would inherit the ranch they lived and worked on all their lives. Colby is shocked to learn that in order for the ranch to be his that either he or his brother Jace need to be married or the ranch will go to their uncle who doesn't care about the ranch and would just sell it to get money. Colby is gay and knows with his grandfather hating gays that he must marry a woman if him and Jace are to take over the ranch. Colby is the oldest and puts the problem upon himself to get married. His best friend Becca comes up with an idea that the two of them should get married and after two years they can get divorced and the ranch will finally be Colby and Jace's. The problem is that Colby is in love with Adam who is Becca's roommate and Becca ends up liking Adam. Adam is also in love with Colby. This is a steamy romance with some laughs and angst thrown it. I have received an ebook copy for an honest review
Somehow, in a story that fully appears to be set in the year 2022, two gay dudes both assumed that marriage = hetero exclusive and didn't think to check if a 'you must be married to inherit' cause actually specified genders. It's baffling and totally unbelievable that neither of them (nor anyone else sympathetic?) would bother to review the will in detail even though everybody was willing to ruin their lives over it.
Maybe if it was set specifically when gay marriage was only just becoming legally possible? or at least one MC was from a country without gay marriage and maybe wasn't tracking? But American legalization would have been an important moment in both MC's young adulthoods.
I think the author wanted to ensure that the audience didn't feel that the MCs were marrying just for the conditions of the will and to assure them that it was all for True Love. I think this was very definitely the wrong call as it required such suspension of disbelief that I couldn't care at all about the last 20% of the book.
Owning one's truth, sometimes comes at a perceived great cost. Colby was burdened by the requirements of his Grandfather's will that he marry in order to retain his inheritance. His best friend, Becca offered to stand in as his fiance to help him out. Colby, had eyes for her new room mate Adam, who was openly out. Colby, noticed Adam and was attracted to him. Since he was still in the closet, he had to hide that fact. It was nice seeing Colby's perspective to Alex's return and how he felt about him. The struggle to be true to himself while staying loyal to family is handled in an intense manner. I like Adam and Colby, but Jason could have dug deeper and made them so much bigger. Does Colby get a solution from his lawyer, Sam? Do he and Becca marry? Will Adam be the side man? Nicely done. I look forward to Jace's story since very little time has been spent on him. Nicely done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
After the reading of his grandfather's will, Colby Bradley - the eldest of the Bradley boys- has a big responsibility….both to his brothers and to the livelihood of their family ranch. Stipulations in the will require Colby to marry, otherwise ownership of the ranch must be surrendered to their undeserving uncle. Scurrying to find a willing woman to marry Colby in-name-only, Colby's best female friend Becca steps forward to help fulfill Colby's obligations to the will. But after meeting Becca's gorgeous gay roommate, Adam Jackson, Colby is torn between doing what is expected of him for the sake of ownership of the ranch - and losing what may be the only chance he has for finding true love in his life. Regretfully, as Adam and Colby's relationship deepens, Colby finds that he must choose between the ranch and his own happiness.
Divided is the second book of The Bradley Brothers series. The plot of this book is quite dramatic, emotional and realistic. The character development is ok, however the author does a better job of mixing the pitfalls, trials and drama of friends, family and romance in this book…..indeed, the outcome of inheritance situation is never a done deal. The secondary characters, especially Becca and Colby's brother Jace, entertain the reader with their sometimes melodramatic approaches to Colby's pick-and-choose dilemma.
A very good romance, and well-recommended! 4 1/2 stars!!
So much heartache going on in this the second book of the Bradley brothers. First of All Alex decided that he was going to fight for his part of their fathers home and Neither Colby or Jace could get him to talk to them so they could all come to an understanding and just after Alex stormed out of the lawyers office another blow hit Colby. He needed to marry so that the brothers would inherit their home otherwise it went to their uncle. But Colby wanted to start living his life like he wanted to but with their home hanging on him getting married he figured he was in the closet again. But then he met Adam and all bets were off. Don't you worry one little bit because Jason comes threw again in the best way! Loved this sweet series and can't wait to see just what he has up his sleeve for Jace!!!!
Book 2 offers us Colby's story. Colby being the oldest had to watch his younger brother get thrown out @ 16 and when he comes back for the reading of his grandfather's will he's suing for his portion. Unfortunately things don't go quite so well for Colby either. his portion of the inheritance will only come to him if he marries. That would be OK but Colby has his own secret & thinks grandpa dearest knew all along. Join Colby on his search for a bride & finally realizes his bride may not be of the female persuasion but perhaps in the form of Adam his best friend's roommate. Well written. Good character chemistry. I was offered an Arc for an honest opinion
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is book two of the Bradley Brothers series. Colby is the oldest Bradley brother and he is a closeted man. His grandfather forced him to stay closeted when he threw their brother out of the house when he was sixteen because he found out he was gay. The grandfather has stipulated in his will that either Colby or his youngest brother, Jace, must marry or their inheritance, the ranch their father started, will go to their uncle. This story shows how Colby is trying to do right by his brothers, but in the process, is making himself miserable because he has found the man that he loves.
Lord, how my heart broke for Colby. He's a man of strong moral fiber and he doesn't want to let his family or ranch employees down. His grandfather's will has the poor man in a stranglehold, unable to be who he really is. Adam seems unable to stay away from Colby and the draw just gets stronger with every encounter. I liked that he gave his support and a listening ear but he knew his limits. The way they worked out the issue was only made better because of the promises they gave each other before finding the answer. Highly recommended author and series
Colby and Adam pretty much fall for each other right away. The angst that runs throughout much of the book is, of course, the fact that Colby has to get married in order to inherit his family's ranch. The pressure he feels is overwhelming, and the marriage of convenience plan he cooks up with his best friend Becca just puts it over the top. I absolutely loved the way the situation resolves, and can't wait for Jase's story in book 3!
This second installment is pretty good. My heart goes out to Colby because the poor man and his friends were thinking in the wrong decade. It took a while for them to see the light but they did find a way out. To me it was obvious but that was just me, lol The inside look at the courtship and the twist will have you surprised as it did me!
When do you deserve to be hapoy? This book is for you. Sacrificing for others why?
Only one shot of living your true self that is what colby . A grandfathers will out it all into a nightmare to be unbearable. His best friend Becca and roommate Adam try to talk sense into him. The event scare a roller coaster ride. Responsibility or take care of yourself? MM romance
I felt bad for Colby after Book1.... so glad it all works out for him. Colby and Adam have great chemistry throughout. The best friend is a hot mess though, and adds some unneccessary drama. Good storyline, overall.
Divided is the second book in the Bradley Brothers series. It was a wonderfully emotional read. Do you choose what is right for your family or what is right for you? Tough choice, but you're always promised a HEA with this author.
I had High Hopes as the book started, as the characters were really interesting and unusual. The trio of leads were really well drawn. The only problem is they could only be one ending, so the second half of the book was pretty predictable.
Really nice reading. I've read many books of Jason so far and in this book, the narration refers to some episodes given in the first book... it's like having a full view of what's happening to all the characters involved. I can't wait to read the third installment.
Book one in this series wasn't great, but it was better than book two which dragged on for way too many chapters. This should have been a short story in a magazine.
