Proof the Sequel: Rise of The Watchers

Rate this book
The odd explosion of an aging Nazi’s secret fortress in a remote area of Argentina initiates a
chain reaction across the planet, an event which could unleash a wrath upon the earth that hasn’t been
seen in centuries. Not since before the Great Flood of Noah have the fallen angels—otherwise known as
the Watchers—freely roamed the earth. Now the dominos have begun to fall which could trigger their
freedom from the earthly prison the Creator banished them to ages ago.

Ty Larson’s adventure continues as ancient mysteries are exposed one by one while he and his
companions desperately search for a way to stop the return of the fallen angels. These spiritual beings
have been imprisoned for millennia. If released, will there be any force on the planet great enough to
counter their evil ways?

Hitler’s most covert project, hidden records of forgotten knowledge from the distant past, and
the long kept secret of the Great Pyramid all collide in Ty’s last ditch effort to stop the rise of the
Watchers.

Ted Berner grew up in the Mountains of Montana where he and his wife currently live on a ranch with several four-legged furry friends. Besides raising horses and Bernese Mountain Dogs, Berner is also an airline pilot and spends a few hours each week traveling around the country at thirty-five thousand feet.

Ted started his writing career in 2010 when he became fascinated with a mysterious civilization that is only briefly mentioned in the Bible. The topic of the Nephilim, the giants from the Bible, is such an intriguing subject that Berner has been a guest speaker on several shows, including Caravan to Midnight with John B. Wells and Late Night in the Midlands with Michael Vara.

Who are we and why are we here? How did this world that we live in come into existence? The Bible may shed some light on these issues, but is there even more to it? What happened all those eons ago to put all of what we know into motion? Who or what is God? Ted believes life is a gift and plans to use his to get to the bottom of some of these age-old questions.

"It was this verse in the Bible, Genesis 6:4, that fueled the fire in me to pursue some answers and continues to be a passion of mine to this day. The only thing I can say for sure is there appears to be fingerprints everywhere I look of something much greater." T. D. Berner

his is what you’d get if Dan Brown wrote an Indiana Jones novel.

A incredible fast-paced, action-packed, thrilling and intriguing mystery about Biblical myths and Nazi conspiracies.

I read the first of these books a few years ago, and I though I have to admit I don’t remember it in detail, I remember being hooked. As an archaeologist I love this kind of stuff. People who can take real-life myths and lore, sprinkle on some conspiracy theories and pack it all in to an action-packed thriller – it’s one of my guilty reading pleasures! Tom Egeland does it well, as does Dan Brown, and now Ted Berner is climbing up toward the top of that list.

The writing is fast-paced, enticing and it sticks to the point, which I love. Berner must have done a ton of research before he got into this, and it shows. Though at times I feel like maybe characters reveal a bit too much and over-explain things to each other to keep the plot rolling. I would have preferred to be left in the dark for as long as possible and been strung along to try and understand what was going on.

Also, some characters seem to be taking everything has truth much faster than they should. I would – knowing the nature of this book – be in utter disbelief if these things happened to me.

But all in all, Berner is making a mark with these books and I hope to see him tackle a completely different old world myth or legend in a similar series in the future.

Once again this author has managed to pen a unique and fast-paced tale of suspense and intrigue that literally does not stop. From the opening scenes to the very last page, the action and thrills come at you fast and furious. I enjoyed the first book in this series so much and was looking forward to this sequel. I can honestly say I was not disappointed. There's so much potential for this entire unique concept and the author does a phenomenal job of keeping you riveted to the page throughout. Each book in this series just whets your appetite for more and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment. A fantastic job all around.

Proof the Sequel: Rise of the Watchers Book 2 by Ted D Berner. This Sequel is fantastic, fast paced, non stop action with a very interesting story. Ty Larson must stop Rudolf Himmler, the son of Heinrick, as quickly as possible. From New Orleans to Alexandra to Egypt, Ty and his companions must stop the release of the Nephilims, fallen angels. I couldn't put this thriller down. I hope that Ted Berner writes another book in this series, it is wonderful! I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

Speculative fiction is all the rage these days. Take a grain of truth, add a little conspiracy theory, throw in a dash of artistic license and there you have a mince pie of a plotline. This is the sum and substance of The Rise of the Watchers. It is not a bad book, but it is also far from a good book. To be honest, it’s all over the place. As a follow-up to 2015’s Proof, the novel continues the story of the gifted yet clueless Ty Larson as he engages in another series of bizarre adventures. It’s clear that the author has a lot to say in his second offering. The problem is, he says too much. Rise of the Watchers reads like a television series cancelled in middle of its first season—with writers desperately trying to bang out a concluding story arc in order to provide a denouement to a dedicated fanbase.

Taking an obscure and often-misinterpreted line from Genesis, author Ted D. Berner constructs an ancient conspiracy of secret societies, mythical monsters, and Nazis. Yes, Nazis…because why not. In Genesis 6:4 it says, “there were giants on the earth in those days, when the sons of God came to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them.” Giants on the earth? This vague reference is intended to describe the Nephilim—the spawn of fallen angels and human women. The Nephilim are an ancient and hunted race of powerful beings whose ascendancy could spell doom for mankind. They are anathema and their release from ancient hiding places portends terrible things to come. It just gets weirder from there. Earthquakes, signs and portents, runic warnings, secret cabals of warrior assassins, and enough conspiracy theory to wrap around the entire state of California and still have room for a bow.

The pseudohistorical documents and creative license with biblical tropes are clever and entertaining, but the story fails to live up to its potential. It’s a jumble—less a narrative and more like refrigerator magnet poetry. As in the introductory novel, the protagonists are flawed and morally reprehensible individuals who do what must be done to guard against the darkness. That means intimidation, violence, and even the occasional murder of innocent people is acceptable because they are the “good guys.” That is a tiresome refrain. These are heroes only in the sense that they believe they are fighting the good fight. They are, in fact, little different from the bad guys.

The villain of the piece is a standard Machiavellian monster with familial ties to the Third Reich—he is the illegitimate son of Heinrich Himmler. His mission is to seek out the Nephilim and somehow use them to create a race of supermen. The goal—obviously—world conquest. It was at this point in the novel that my eyes rolled into the back of my head, and I moaned aloud. I very nearly lost the will to live. I kept reading, thinking that there might be some substance or a grain of captivating rising action. What I found were random scene changes, way too much in medias res, and downright detestable characters throwing out muddled and cliched dialogue. I finished the novel, if only as a means of expiating my soul for my past sins.

Sequel has been long anticipated. Very enjoyable, different from anything I have read, about time travel, fallen Angels, and the bond between father and son. Intense read, edge of your seat excitement. Some 2nd books don't measure up, but this may have surpassed it's predecessor.

This sequel picks up where Proof left off as expected. Ted Berner continues displaying his ability to merge non-fiction with fiction leading one to search answers while being lead on a journey with many twists and turns. Ted doesn't disappoint leaving you with an unexpected ending, an ending leaving you scratching your head while wondering what if...

Rise of the Watchers does however read like many sequels leaving me wondering if along the journey of story creation there was struggle where to go. Even with this feeling while reading I strongly suggest reading both books in this series; there are many things contained that will leave you interested in the characters lives and send you searching for things found to be real leaving you wanting to know more and even confirm.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Rudolf Himmler, an illegitimate son of Heinrich Himmler, has an all-consuming desire to make his father’s dream come true – to create a super-soldier. But Rudolf has an even better idea. He wants to clone a Watcher, one of the Biblical fallen angels. He would then have all of the power he needed to avenge his father’s death. But to let one or more of these evil Watchers loose on the world could have devastating consequences.

Just like Mr. Berner’s first book, “Proof the Novel”, his sequel is a very interesting fictional book that is based on facts, Biblical studies and myths and fables that many people believe are actually true. Both of his books are quite thought provoking and take you off on your own research journeys to find out more. That in and of itself is reason enough to read these books; but on top of that, they’re really are quite suspenseful adventure stories.

I’ve enjoyed reading the further adventures of Ty Larson and finding even more myths and theories to explore online in the days ahead.

This book was given to me by the author in return for an honest review.
