A mysterious heroine. A twisted magical college. Three sexy teachers. I didn’t know magic existed… until I found my birth family after a life in foster care. They tell me there are rules, but I don’t believe them. Naturally, I break one of those precious rules on the night of a full moon, and am forced to enroll at Academy Obscura. But I don’t fit in. After all, I’m not a witch, vampire, Fae, werewolf, or shifter. Am I? Worse, the penalty for messing up at the Academy? Death. My only chance of survival lies in the hands of three frustratingly hot teachers. Jaxon, a powerful but untrustworthy witch. Liam, a Fae who avoids my flirtations. And Angel, the alpha werewolf who enthusiastically tears apart my enemies, but openly broods when I’m around. I am drawn to all of them. But, how can one woman have three men?
Take an adventurous ride in this steamy, dark paranormal romance, where the heroine gets all the men she loves. Full of unforgettable magic, intrigue, and mystery. This series features shifters, witches, Fae, and vampires. If you like angsty, flawed characters who make the wrong choices, and learn from their mistakes, you’ll enjoy this series.
Contains dark themes, graphic violence, language, and possibly triggering situations. Recommended for mature readers.
- Spice: 4/5 (The perfect amount for this book, in my opinion.) - Slow-ish burn - Gradual harem - No "sword crossing"
When I was reading the first book (the prequel), I was pretty into it. Then something happened that screamed STRONG Harry Potter vibes. In the end, it wasn't the same thing that happened in Harry Potter, but the scene still seemed a bit similar to me. Later, in the second book (the first one of actual series involving Caprice), a second scene happened that, once again, kind of screamed HP. I mentioned it to my husband, and he said realistically, how else would the scene play out if not the way the author did it? He did have a valid point. I won't mention what the scenes are here, but I'm sure when you read them, they'll be BLATANTLY obvious. This being said, it certainly doesn't take away from the story, and the more I read, the more I got really into it. There are so many different twists that are different levels of surprise, I had trouble putting the book down!
This is a series I will definitely be recommending from now on.
An orphan, and in the system, Caprice is excited when she learns her grandmother has found her. Leaving her foster parents, she travels to meet her only relative, and finds out that she comes from a family of witches, and that it is expected that she is one as well. Four stories in this box set, following Caprice's introduction to the supernatural world, meeting her mates, and learning that their lives are ruled by evil dictators, to her role in attempting to overthrow the regime and create a fairer society. I'm not a prude, but often the sex scenes in this series were gratuitous and detracted from an exciting adventure. Still, I enjoyed the struggle Caprice and her allies went through, and the building of many different types of friendship. Full of great characters, and some lessons to learn. Buy the box set for a bargain.
Loved this series! I read the first book on it's own and knew right away that I was going to want the full series. Lucky for me it was already complete and sold at a major discount in this boxset.
I actually read the first book before the prequel but I don't feel like that spoiled anything. Imagine living out your life in the foster system being discarded and bullied over and over again. Yet through it all, you still have relatively sound judgement and are preparing to work your way through college when bam! the Supernatural smacks you in the face with all of its rules and regulations on top of it's very existence and before you know it, your very life is at stake.
Academy Obscura, The Complete Series by Cassia Briar: Caprice/Jaxon/Liam/Angel — Caprice is the long lost granddaughter of a high ranking Witch. But she grew up in foster care and had no knowledge of a magical world. So she made major blunders, attracted the wrong attention, and ended up in big trouble. As a stopgap, she attended a magical school where everything is a competition - for serious reasons.. And eventually discovers what she is, and it’s not a witch. Also, why choose? As it turns out, she is a rare being - a dragon shifter who must take 4 mates before she can fully shift. This story maintains a good pace throughout the series, with lots of twists and turns and likable (good) characters. Evil rules, and is challenged. The first strike occurs and the war is on. Good writing, and a strong storyline. I throughly enjoyed this series! —PTators
Dragons, fae, vampires, shifter, werewolves, witches, and more
This complete series was so much fun! It was like a less intense Harry Potter with heat haha. The enemies-to-lovers, the instalove, the friends to lovers was soo good. My only complaint was I wish I read Elena's story 2nd. It took me a while to bond with Caprice because of it. But other than that, this story was thorough and magical! Each of Caprices mates were perfect but I have to say Liam was definitely my favorite because a fae who can sense emotions, ugh sign me up. The magic side of everything was really good too along with the political aspects. This was just very well thought out.
- Slight OM/OW drama and jealousy - only partially an Academy RH, academy stuff falls away in the 3rd book - Harem has 4 guys: werewolf, shapeshifter, witch, and fae - Several seriously reluctant mate’s - attempted rape, assault, torture - bullying from outside the harem - betrayal from outside the harem - 3/5 Spicy stars - FMC is a dragon shifter - Royalty
I was unhappy with the romantic relationships in this series, but that’s because I’m a petty bitch and unforgiving. The ‘HEA’ was too abrupt and left me feeling unsatisfied.
Great fantasy series, witches, Shapeshifters, vamp, and fairies. it seems they all must go to a school to learn how to do what they do best and the ones that don’t well let’s just say you don’t want to be one of the ones that don’t this was a reverse harem book. to be honest, the romance was a little late. The spicy was a more relevant on the page. But overall, it was a good series. I would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy.
Awe! This series was absolutely incredible!! It kept moving throughout that it was very difficult to put down!! I loved the twists and turns, from rags to riches vibes and all the supernatural creatures: vampires, witches, fae, wolves and shapeshifters. The prologue for Elena really helped set some questions, but also kept me wondering about her throughout Caprice and guys stories. I will definitely be reading more of her books and love the complete series!!
There are so many good things about this series. Great world building. Fantastic character development. Nail biting action. And scorching hot sexy time. If you like your reverse harem stories filled with magic and magical creatures, this is the box-set for you. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would.
i love reverse harem stories and am a sucker for an academy setting but unfortunately this was not my cup of tea. the plot was interesting enough to carry me through the series but i was not emotionally invested and i think the overall execution needed work.
Awesome characters and plot right from the outset. Had some doubts as academy stories is a subgenre of growing proportions and a minefield of choices. But this has everything I want, and then some!
The main female character started out weak but grew into her own as the story continued. The male lead characters had obstacles to overcome with dealing with main female character. Overall the story catches and keeps your interest from the beginning to the end.
DNF. This series was not for me. I read through book 1, but in the middle of book 2, I gave up as I was disliking a lot of it. Watch my FULL book review here: https://youtube.com/shorts/McKOkiitD94
Overall the series was entertaining. Though this written review is really for the short about Elena finding that old journal. It was an interesting look at how the big baddies came to be and I think it's a nice setup presumably for the other series in this world.
I really enjoyed reading this series. The series is very detailed and written with great care. The structure of the story and the development of the characters are fantastic. Caprice grew up in the human world and goes through developments in each book that are extremely difficult but only make her stronger. Nothing is what it seems and who can be trusted?
That is all it took me to get through these books, and boy what a wild ride those 3 days were. I loved the older academy aspects. The RH was done well, and there was more story than there was sex, so KUDOS for that! The story was well written and enjoyable. It definitely kept you guessing. I just wasn't sure what was going to happen next or who was going to come out on top! I usually do not like to read box sets but this one changed my mind as I was glad I didn't have to go through the ordeal of getting the next book, downloading, waiting for it to open . I wanted to know what was going to happen immediately and yay I could just turn the page!!! Great job on these Cassia!!
