No dating. No falling in love. And certainly, no telling anyone my real name. These rules are for my own protection, but that doesn’t stop me from longing to take my place within my family. My saving graces are my two best friends Temperance and Sam, and Temperance has even more problems than I do. When she needs my help, I jump at the chance for a little bit of adventure. All I need to do is pretend to be someone else while I take a few pictures and lay low. That works well until Lotario walks up to my table. Now I’m fighting not to fall in love with a completely handsome and sweet, yet inappropriate man. Men and women can be just friends, right? It’s not like we get to see each other all the time. Buthe’s becoming less and less understanding that my ‘fake’ career makes a relationship impossible. He wants more. And my flimsy excuse will only hold a determined Italian man off for so long.
How do I stay ‘just friends’ with a man that wants more?
This clean duet is a slow burn romance, but Annika will get her happily ever after … eventually.
One of my favourite couples in this universe! Looking forward to reading the second half. Both main characters would do anything for the ones they love, family is priority and yet they are both scared about moving forward with each other (for various reasons).
Massive thanks to HiddenGems and the author for the advanced read. I'll admit, I was pretty confused going into this book. Turns out, it's the 7th one in a series. BUT, you catch on pretty quickly. This is Annika's story and you quickly piece together where everyone else fits in. I love how the story address different types of relationships - familial, friendships, business, etc. It doesn't read like a typical mafia story. The mafia is more of a background detail to the rest of the story. Annika is someone that enjoys being herself, but is forbidden from doing so. And to make matters even more complicated, she falls for the man she's most definitely not supposed to. It's a slow burn, but definitely picks up quickly, towards the end. Cannot wait for the next one!
I absolutely love the Aurora Darklight series! Reading through it feels like an incredible journey. I originally binge-read it for the romance, but now I want to go back and look for all the hidden details and clues. It’s so much fun to discover how the characters are connected.
One of my favorite stories was Annika’s. I really enjoyed her friendship with Temperance and her relationship with War, even though her secrecy kept them apart. The way her brother cared for her gave me heart eyes—I’ve loved him since the beginning!
I also appreciate that this series features closed-door mafia romance with no cursing. I highly recommend this author and the entire series! It is truly SO GOOD!
