First the frog ate the fly. Next the frog ate the beetle. Then the frog ate the grasshopper. The frog tried to eat a butterfly, but he got eaten by a fish! I like the WHOOP! sound that the frogs tongue makes, and also the gulp when he gets swallowed!
My absolute favorite book as a child. I used to read it with my mom every night and eventually could remember it word for word.
The frog lurks somewhere, eyeing his next prey. SHH! The frog didn't make a sound. He just eyes his prey. WOOP! Out comes the frog's tongue so sticky and long and SLURP! GULP! Now his prey is gone. The frog eats a fly, beetle, and grasshopper. Then as the frog tries to eat a pretty butterfly, he gets gulped up by a fish.
A poorly written “novelty” book; bad, awkward rhythm & rhyme; with choking hazard for children and pets attached to the cover: the frog’s “tongue” is a long piece of sticky plastic cord, just like the “yo-yo ball” cords implicated in child strangulations and pet deaths.
A fun, colorful, rhyming book for kids! Googly eyes on the front. Only warning: the sticky tongue is on the cover so need to be careful kids aren't pulling or touching.
This is a really cute book! It is about a frog eating different types of insects including a fly, beetle, and grasshopper. They book repeats words and sounds, so children can repeat it if a teacher reads it aloud. The frog tries to eat a butterfly, but he ends up being eaten by a fish! Also I really enjoyed the illustrations. The illustrations are bright and provide different textures to make it fun to read and look at.
This book would be a good book to read when learning about frogs or even about insects and animals in general. This may be a tough subject for very young kids because it shows the food chain, what a frog eats and who eats the frog. This may be unpleasant for some younger kids to read but can be a realistic way to introduce the circle of life. It has bright illustrations to go along with the text, as well as a long, icky, sticky, tongue from the frog on the front of the book.
Beautiful illustrations, rythmn and repetition, a cute introduction to the food chain... I got this book second hand and the sticky tongue that should be on the cover is missing...maybe not as durable as it could be...the cover has cute googely eyes for the frog. It has a warning that its not for kids under 3, maybe because of the tongue detatching...
I requested this one a long time ago and just finally got it. I'm thinking it probably was more fun with the sticky frog tongue still intact (which was more than a little wishful thinking from a library version). The story was nice, ecologically accurate (beware: some animals were eaten in the reading of this book), and my son has already requested it more than once. Thumbs up in my book.
The best Big Lots find, ever! I got the board book for $1, oh yeah! This has been a favorite for over a year, now. Bobo ate the whole outer edge of the book on a car trip, but we can still read it. I'm going to buy a better copy, I promise. I love the theatrics of the book. It begs to be read out loud.
My little girl really likes this book. She likes to point to each bug, and she will say "shhh" with the book when frog is being quiet about to swallow the bugs. I think it is a cute book, the pictures are fun and bright, and I like that it's repetitive and has a rhythm to the text for kids to enjoy.
I love love love this book. I read it to my children over and over again. One of my favorite stories just funny and quirky and fun to read if you whisper in the right places and WOOP! in the right places too.
Ethan's great grandma bought him this book & he loves it. He did end up pulling off the tongue on the front cover, maybe they should have made it a little more durable since it's a kid's book, but definitely a fun read & the ending definitely surprised me! :)
Grabbed this one literally fifteen minutes before storytime and liked it so much that I ditched one of the other books in favor of this one. Totally did NOT see the ending coming, and neither did my kiddos. Everyone liked it a lot.
I think children will like this book, I just wasn't a huge fan of it. I liked the pictures, but not the story. The story actually reminds me of a book called Tadpoles Promise.
