So I saw this book on booktok and they said it’s spicy and steamy romance, so I was like okay read it. Let me spare you some time. It is not.
Long story short the MC has survived a house fire but her patents didn’t. She is living with her brother and having delusions.
Plot twist #1 she caused the fire.
Actually the brother doesn’t really have any personality.
She got a tutor at the university. Spoiler. The tutor is hot af.
Plot twist #2 her professor is looking for her crazy (ex)wife.
Our MC got some friends everything seems happy but her delusions are getting worse.
Actually the helplessness and self doubt were pictured quite well that’s why I gave 2 stars instead 1.
Our MC is going into a mental institution because they all say, that her new friends and hot af professor do not exist, they are only visions.
Then in the last 30 pages (It’s like the last episode of a long rom-com) the writer has realised she needs to close the story. So to sum up what happens in the last few pages.
Our MC goes to a mental hospital. They say she is crazy.
She starts to believe she is crazy.
The brother meet the new neighbour and he let her move on his apartment after 5 minutes BECAUSE SHE DOES NOT HAVE A DOOR(????).
Another patient tells the MC that one of the nurses is crazy and evil.
The brother sleeps with the new neighbour (rommate?).
The MC saw the hot af professor in the garden at the hospital. He says A: yes he is real and love her. B: his ex is crazy and the MC is in danger.
Plot twist #3 Turns out the evil nurse is the professor’s ex and tries to kill the MC AND
Plot twist #4 the evil nurse was the MC’s father’s lover and she has been drugging MC for years (that is were the visions csme from) and she has set the fire.
Plot twist #5 Oh and she was the new neighbour also.
Of course the MC almost die, and then the hot af professor almost die too. Then he confess love and this is the end of the story.
If you got this far in the review thank you, I really appriciate it. If it seems chaotic trust me, the book was much more chaotical.
Thank you for your attention.

Look. I'm a person who likes assumptions. I'm a person who likes to predict the outcome and overall have an idea of how things will probably go. In this book though I didn't know shit about fuck.
First of all. The plot is crazy and trust me the characters are crazy too. We have this delusional girl named Willow that has these traumatic and inexplicable.. visions? Illusions? Hallucinations? Suit yourselves with a name. What I know is that this girl believed things that weren't true. And the fucked up thing was that she made me believe them also. Like come on. Don't play me like that bitch.
Okay okay.. it's not her fault. She was deceived. Fine. 🙄 If you think all this sounds messed up.. wait until I tell you that her professor (did I tell you she somehow attends university? 👀) is also part of this crazy story and tries to help her out of this mess. Somehow though.. she ends up in a psych ward because people around her believe she's getting worse and basically she's running against time to prove that she's hasn't completely lost it. Well.. good luck. She'll need it. Especially when a specific nurse in there is after hers and her professor's life 🔪👀
As my rating proves.. I liked that shit a lot. I'm not sure how I feel about all these plot twists tho. If you'd told me in the beginning that this is how it would end I'd tell you to shut up. 🤷🏻♀️ If you decide to go for this.. have in mind that the MC has a lot of baggage, takes medication and the most important.. nothing is as it seems.
my review will not be super long, I'm honestly just going to post the notes I took while reading
Check TWs, 18+ SPOILERS
- Both main characters who mock therapy and mental health advocacy, constantly calling people "crazy" and "loonie" - literally so disrespectful
- The entire situation is unfathomable to a point a couldn't suspend my disbelief. Not just the big plot but like... a therapist would have nothing to do with contacting a professor about tutoring his student and would not be asked to do a home visit??
- speaking of Dr Jane she was so SUS and she never got busted for it??? Like she had to be in cahoots with emily there ain't no way
- The plot was surface level and made no sense! What was emily constantly drugging people with? How did the drugs make Liam love her but Willow have hallucinations and get violent ?
- We didn't get explanations for some things in the end and huge plot holes were just left
- There clearly was no editor and if there was they did a poor job
- Reads like a first draft
- She's a little timid girl who has no personality outside of being sad and timid, they have almost no pleasant interaction before suddenly they're hot and heavy for each other and saying I love you
- The spice was not worth the train wreck of a plot
- also her essay was absolute ASS there is no way she would've gotten an A. She was writing informally, no structure, no word cited!!! My professors would've failed me if I handed that in. But it was hilarious to watch him be like "what beautiful writing" like there's got to be a meme to go along with that somewhere
- Also the main character saying her favourite book was Brave New World ??? Red flag
I really enjoyed this book. The plot twist at the end got me and had me questioning my own sanity throughout. I only wish it was longer I needed so much more. Definitely worth the read 🖤
Firstly: just a warning this book is DARK. By poor mental health what the author actually means by that is psychosis and delusions.
This really put me off to begin with, although definitely interesting I really had no idea how she was going to pull off a HEA ending and some stuff was dark even for me.
Half way through I did almost give up just not seeing it possible, without spoiling whoA I am SHOOK.
Those last 2 chapters where everything just clicked into place and my adrenaline was RUSHING. Holy hell I'm so glad I stuck around for that.
Now that I know all the pieces I can totally appreciate the story and where holly guy took us.
Please give this a try 🙏 It's well worth the time reading!
The plot twist! The romance, the characters - everything had me in a chokehold! I adored this book and everything part of it. I didn’t expect the plot twist with the ex wife at all!
What an amazing book!! Read it all within 1 day! I just couldn’t put it down! Normally stand alone books are rushed and there’s always something missing but this love story was just perfect
Gosh My heart can’t handle this, I genuinely genuinely believed at one point that Willow was imagining people 🥲 DONT SCARE ME LIKE THAT HOLLY. I would’ve cried if Liam and Willow didn’t get their happy ending. I nearly believed that he died aswell… this book is just full of twists and turns. I’ve got whiplash istg 😂 I really really enjoyed it tho 🥰 I like how the story was a full on murder mystery, I knew willow never would’ve actually killed her parents but it had me questioning her motive sometimes 😂 Alice, or whatever her name is. Thank fuck she’s locked up, my anger issues could never. Dunno how Liam never swung at her, cuz I would’ve. Bitch is crazyyyyy Honestly, we deserve another few chapters of Willow and Liam. I need to see them happy and have children 💔 AND JAKE AND OLIVIA, as much as I loathed Jake for not believing his own flesh and blood he still semi deserves happiness 🙄 I liked how it was a quick read, some scenes were a bit rapid though. I wasn’t a fan of how quickly Willow and Liam fell for each other, I personally would’ve wanted a bit of a slow burn? Some more student x teacher time especially, it’s understandable though as the book was literally less than 200 pages. But it would’ve been nice to see more a slower development with their feelings 🙃 Other than that, I highly recommend!! I’ll definitely have to check out more of Hollys books🥰 5/5 ⭐️
Interesting plot, but predictable. Would have liked more detail, like the book should have been longer. Here are some specifics that bug me: 1. When Liam stole an Ativan, but it took him days to get it identified, and had to go through sketchy people to figure it out. Has he never heard of Google? He could have brought it into any pharmacy and they could have identified it. Not sure why it had to be so difficult. 2. I would have liked Lola to be linked to Emily too. Like if we found out Emily had also slept with her husband. But we didn’t get much info on Lola, yet Willow is so happy she’s being released. 3.I also don’t believe that Doctor Jane was innocent in this story, yet nothing happens to her and she just miraculously knows what meds to draw up as an antidote for whatever Emily injected into Willow that killed her? 4. There was also a “your” instead of a “you’re” at one point. But I don’t remember where.
Overall, interesting story, so I might read more from this author, but this one missed the mark a little.

I loved this book, I found it gripping throughout and I didn’t know what to expect from one page to the next. Without being cynical however I felt it didn’t need to end as happy ever after as it did - it didn’t fit the feel of the rest of the book, I feel that if mr Anderson was chocking on blood he wouldn’t have made it and we could have still seen willow positively progress despite his passing. However, overall absolutely loved this book and I couldn’t recommend it enough. A fabulous read ☺️
An incredible storyline, that kept me guessing until the very end. I love that I could understand Willow so well because the author had me guessing what was real and what wasn't the entire time, really putting me in her shoes. Emily was a favourite character for me, a character really well written. I was so invested in this book and I could not put it down!
OMG. OH👏MY👏GOD👏! Talk about plot twist. I kinda guessed about half way through which way it was going to go but still had moments it took me by surprise. And those twist! At some points I didn't know if it was happening or one of her delusions had me second guessing my own mind. It does have its dark moments. So is it not for the fate hearted checked TWs but highly recommended!!
This book was different. The exwife/mistress causing most of Willows psychosis was definitely a plot twist. I wish their would have been more details on their marriage to help show how much of a narcissist she was. Overall the plot was good. The book just needed more details.

First of all, the plot twist!!!! Ooooommmmmg. This as a very enjoyable read, i really liked it. I missed some character and relationship construction but the book is 200 pages afterall, so there’s not exactly much space for lots of details. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed it and thought the boom was well written and the story flew smoothly.
I did expect I little more of spice thought… it is a 🌶️.5/5 for me.
The story was much better than I originally had thought it was going to be. But it was very well written and had a very good plot line. I felt like the relationship was rushed a little bit in the end, I would have loved to have seen more of their relationship.
Love the different take on the teacher/student trope. I kept reading reviews about the big plot twist so I did skim a lot until the last two chapters. The plot twist was great!
Wow what a book. Think it's the biggest journey a book has ever taken me on. You think you understand and then it all changes. My first Holly Guy book but it won't be my last. Reason for 4 ⭐ instead of 5 is tht I would have loved for ot to have been longer especially the crescendo.
There is so much to process from this, and I'm not sure if I ever will fully comprehend it. I think the best way to describe this book is "dark camp." Other than the affair with her professor, to say that the FMC has mental health issues is an understatement. Come to find out at the end of the story, not everything is honestly what it seems. This was so wild, and most of the time, at the end, I was just whispering to myself, "wtf is going on?!?". The reason this isn't getting a 4 stars is because this story should have been a full length novel and not a novella. There was so much that happened that I wished there was proper build up to the final act of the book.
Easy one day read, but don’t go into this thinking it’s a romance like I did 🤦🏼♀️ There were so many plot twists I didn’t want to put it down. But the cover is so weird for the story I wish they’d change that
