This series has been popping up on my feed for a minute, and so I decided to finally dive in to see what the fuss was all about. Also I have to say that SL Scott's male model covers are GORGEOUS...moving on LOL. I liked this one. It was unexpectedly better than I thought. I liked the meet cute and then the redo meet cute. I liked the characters themselves and the whole "wrong side" of the tracks vibe. I haven't read a college romance in a bit but I enjoyed the depth here. This was a boy whose family is loaded who has all the privilege that is possible and he falls for a girl who works for the catering company that his family uses. They have more in common than they would think. I loved and hated Harbor's sacrifice- I understand the reasoning but man did that hurt. And I liked the unexpected separation of several YEARS. This was an unknown second chance novel for me and I LOVED that bit of it.

Lark is working towards her dream of being a doctor. She is working as many jobs as she can while also studying and getting the grades she needs to be able to get to where she wants to go. She doesn't have time for anything else which is why she is so resistant at first of Harbor. The hottie she meets at a gas station of all places. The same one who she finds herself working for at his family's house. The same one who doesn't seem to take no for an answer. Now she has a boyfriend who is also premed so they can study together. But she really doesn't seem to grasp the wealth and options he has. Either way she falls for him and the story they weave of their future together. She helps him through his darkness that is his cousin's death. She supports him how she can. She feels supported and is excited when they both get into the school they want to go to. Harbor feels like home to her so she doesn't question how fast things are going. But then Harbor disappears from thin air. He misses her graduation. He leaves without a trace. She is broken but keeps her eye on the prize of med school and beyond. But then he is back. He wants a do over. He wants to explain. But can she open her heart to him and trust he wont bail again? Can she trust her feelings for him?

Harbor is at a low point. He seems to just be coasting at this point. His life has not been the same since his cousin died. Especially since no one knows what really happened. But then he meets Lark whose name has a whole meaning behind it that he will tell her someday, and he feels like a new man. He has a purpose again. Something to help make him smile. Something to put his focus back on. Something to maybe help him FEEL things again. And he finds himself falling hard for her. He doesn't care that she doesn't have money or that she didn't grow up how he did. He does everything he can to make her comfortable and feel supported. He wants her dreams to come true. He wants to be her number one cheerleader which is why when her dreams have a possibility of not happening he pulls out all the stops. He calls on his family. They don't agree but he doesn't care. He is doing this for Lark. He is sacrificing them for her and he hopes that she will be able to forgive him because he is going to come back when she least expects it. He just hopes he won't be too late.

Like I said the timeline in this story was very unique for me. I can't think of another one like it which is one of the reasons I enjoyed it as much as I did. I liked the pacing and how their feelings developed- it took me back to college! I am really looking forward to continuing on through the Westcott family and seeing who all they end up with. I think I am most looking forward to the playboy- those are always fun to watch settle down. I would definitely recommend this series if you haven't already started it!

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: second chance, fated love
Angst: 😱😱😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥 (2.5)

Absolutely beautiful storytelling that pulled my emotions all over the place. Wonderful characters that had you pulling for them the entire time. I did have a little bit of a hard time with how slow it was in spots and the time jumps at the end. Overall, I did enjoy the story and will definitely be trying this author again!

"We don’t always get what we want when we want it. Sometimes we need to follow our destinies instead."
I love how SL Scott spins her stories. This one slightly missed the mark for me, even though I loved the characters individually and together. I just think it had the potential to be amazing, and it wasn't.
I’m marking some spoilers below; please make sure you want to read them.

"He’s a sinner and a saint battling it out inside an Adonis body. God, I can’t wait to see who wins."
I really liked Harbor. He’s been through a lot, and he’s not your typical rich kid—not anymore. It was hard seeing him deal with things he didn’t have to, but at the same time, it showed what a huge heart he has. It would take someone special to see him for who he is and past all the bullshit.

"She’s the kind of good that needs to be protected at all costs, the light that makes a day shine brighter, and my night worth staying awake longer."
It’s not that I didn’t like Lark, but she’s inconsistent. Some of her reactions and behavior seem too teenager-y for someone who is 21 and has been dealt a shitty hand at life. I love how open she is about her feelings, how she loves with her whole heart, and how she wants to heal people, even though it’s not always possible.

"Ignore me."
"I tried at the gas station. It didn’t work then, and it’s not working now."

Lark and Harbor’s meet cute is a different one. They meet at a gas station when he’s buying a soda for his sister. They’re in the same class, and he’s noticed her before, but this is the first time they’re actually talking.
And she doesn’t take his shit or his flirting, which, of course, only makes him want her more.

”"You’re making it hard to seduce you when you’re crying. You have me torn between throwing you on the mattress or asking if you need to talk."
He’s from a wealthy family, and she was raised by her dad. He has several trust funds, and she has to work to make ends meet. He has his own apartment, and she shares hers with a roommate and struggles to pay the rent. They’re so very different on paper, but they complement each other too well.

"I don’t want agreements. I want investments—my heart for yours."
They meet at his house, where she’s working for the catering company. They meet again by happenstance at the same gas station. Every moment they share, even the smallest things, is special, and it’s clear these two are fated.

"I don’t want someone else. I want you—the good and the bad, the dark and the light. The truth."
It was refreshing to see the two main characters opening up to each other about their past—real communication. It takes them a bit to get there, but it was beautiful to witness. It was also beautiful to see their worlds come together regardless of social status or wealth.
There’s not a lot of spice, but it matches who they are.

"Wherever you are is home to me."
"I will always come back to you."

However, while Lark thinks they’ll be riding off into the sunset (i.e., college) together, Harbor has other plans. I’m not saying they don’t come from the heart because they do, and everything he does is for her, but it didn’t make sense after everything they’d talked about and been through.
When he leaves, she is heartbroken and alone, and she doesn’t understand what happened.
Does he come back? Of course. They’re meant to be.

"Even now, after the years, the pain, the crushed hearts, the lost souls, you still look at me like I’m everything."
"You are. To me, you always will be."

In the end, they would always be together. It doesn’t matter how they got there, only that they did. They healed each other, and the ending was heartwarming.

I can’t wait for Loch’s story next. We weren’t given a lot about him in this book, but he sounds grumpy. I think I’m gonna like it!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 (ARC Review)

''You're where time begins and ends and every moment in between''

Safety warnings
- No cheating
- No OW/OM drama
- Mention of su*cide/drug abuse
- Abandonment
- HEA

I wasn't quite sure how I would feel about this book when I started but by the end I was pretty damn happy I got the ARC and was able to read such an emotional book.

I don't want to say too much and give anything away, but I loved watching Lark and Harbor fall in love. I loved his dedication to her and how truly lucky he felt that this girl who he randomly saw one day would become his whole world. He was the perfect boyfriend, and his family was even more wonderful...I actually thought it would be the opposite considering who they were, but I was happily surprised that I was wrong.

There were moments based on his decisions where I wished he had made better choices and didn't have to do what he did in order for Lark to succeed in life.

They both have a lot of past trauma that they have yet dealt with and it affects them on most days and I was glad to see it be resolved in a believable way rather than ignored and pushed aside for the sake of it all.

I had massive issues with her college friends...if you read the book and get to this particular scene that BROKE me because of the betrayal then you'll understand what I mean. I was appalled by the decisions and I didn't appreciate it. I'm glad Lark was not so easily manipulated to let it go easily but able to let it go as a mature adult and walk away.

All I can say is Harbor truly loved her with all his heart and it never changed no matter what happened. He wanted to be a better man for her after years of being a ghost.

Swear on My Life

Harbor and Lark.

Rich Boy, Poor Girl.
Insta Love.
Emotional
Second Chance Romance.

I don’t how to express my feelings for this book, to be honest this is not for me. It took me days to finish it. When I reached the 70% of the book, it is where the real problem begun but prior to that it feels all over the place. Harbor and Lark had a meet cute moment and they both were attracted to each other, got into an insta love and becomes serious. They both have issues and they managed to get them out in the open and cleared it, or so I thought. I don’t get or I’m confused with Lark’s roommate/BFF situation and involvement to the plot, and to think they were supposed to be friends, I feel like they’re just fillers.

I love Groveling so much, I feel like it’s mandatory for a second chance story to have it, but then again, I didn’t feel much groveling for this book. Or I just want more. The FMC gave in too easily despite the gravity of what was done to her especially when she has abandonment issues. Although it was a great sacrifice by Harbor to leave because of love, there’s just too much wasted time that can be resolved with proper communication and avoid the long separation. Overall, this book is not for me however if you like the tropes listed above then proceed.

ARC in exchange for an honest review

This was just so so. I don't understand why he stayed away. I don't know if they dated other people while apart. Its never said. And if I was going to have unprotected sex with someone who'd been gone five years I would totally ask him or her about their activity and if they were clean. But not a word here. Its unclear if they saw other people while apart but I guess it didn't matter to them. I just thought the whole premise of this was weird. Why did he have to leave? just so many unanswered questions. I am about ready to talk myself into two stars so I better stop. Just a very odd book and not at all what I expected. Its bothering me for some reason.

Look I know authors are only trying to make the first time of the heroine special and make you swoon over the hero for how respectful and careful he is with her but sometimes you just need them to be more manly. Full of testosterone and stamina.

I believe a man would say he wants to make it special for her once or twice, but when the begging is too much and he's still trying to do the right thing it just ruins the moment. Is he gay?! 🙄 sadly, this was enough to annoy me. DNF.

However, the writing was engaging enough to make me want to give this author another go.

I am in a very content emotional state but at the same time the beauty of this love story has me floored in the best possible of ways!

This book is a big one but the story within the pages is worth every minute! I wanted to get started on it because I knew it would take time…well I didn’t put it down! The story of how Lark and Harbor not only find love but find themselves was astounding! From their first encounter you get hooked instantly with their banter and easy conversation.

SL Scott did a phenomenal job writing a story that had characters you can’t help but love! Harbor comes across as just another pretty boy but he is so much more. He has a huge heart, loves deeply and fights for those he loves selflessly! Lark she’s strong willed, is caring for all around her and loves like no other! They fall fast, and hard! Even as the world around them challenges their love they fight but the future isn’t guaranteed. These two truly have to fight for not just their love but for themselves. That’s one of the things I really loved about this book. Their love story was front and center but both had demons they needed to overcome and their self discovery and growth was truly beautiful!

I did go back and forth with the rating because the end I feel is a little rushed but when I think of their overall story, the overall love and instances of Fate I knew this book deserved all the stars because at the end of it all you’re left with two characters that capture you and don’t let you go even after the last word is read.

This is about the 4th SL Scott book I have read and I don’t think I can do anymore. The pacing is always odd. The arguments are just flat. The dragged out secrets are just… not gripping. The side characters are one dimensional.
There was one argument that made me want to throw my kindle at the Christmas tree about 30% in. H tells h something difficult for him and gets emotional. She feels he isn’t behaving normally so tells him he’s tired and that he should leave. He doesn’t want to. But gets grumpy and leaves. She chases after him and has a go at him for leaving, telling him he shouldn’t leave mid argument: I mean Wtaf. I got whiplash.

"We aren't temporary baby"

I received an ARC for an honest review of this book.

S.L Scott is a new author for me and her first book I have read. I will definitely be adding some of her other books to my TBR pile.

This started off quite slow for me, took me a while to get into this story but as soon as I did, I really enjoyed it. This is a story about two people from the same town but one is rich and one is not. They have an instant attraction to each other and a whirlwind romance begins, very insta-love. They both have a lot of deep seated emotions from things that have happened in their past that does have a negative impact on their lives which also causes problems between them quite quickly into the relationship. There is so much angst and I loved it! BUT this is a really lovely story between these two and even though it hurt at times, it was wonderful.

I was on the edge of my seat reading this book because I knew this was going to have me feeling all different emotions and it did. This is a second chance romance but different to the ones I've read so even though it was quite slow at times, I still very much enjoyed it.

The ending made me shed a little tear or two 😢

I really enjoyed this book. Thank you for the opportunity to have had an ARC of this.

Oh my goodness this book set me on such an emotional rollercoaster.
I adored this love story between Harbor and Lark from the their first meeting until the very end I was completely beguiled by them. They are complete opposites he is rich and she is not,but they fit together in every other way.I love the way they both looked passed the their social statuses for love.
S.L Scott gave me all the feels and all the tears as I was totally bewitched by this romance that I could not stop reading it.
Harbor is a dream honestly I love everything about his character,he wasn't what I thought he would be an arogant richboy....he was definately not that he was perfection and had a heart of gold.
Lark is strong with big dreams from a small town and not with the money and priveledge Harbor had.She too had a big heart and loved intensely and their journey throughout this book is inspiring and emotional.I did shed more than a tear or two because Lark an Harbor are soul mates and Fate seems to understand that too,and that they are meant to be together forever.Although it takes alot of angst to get there.
This book is another 5 STAR winner for S.L Scott it is a charming, sensational story that I absolutely loved reading,I enjoyed it very much.
magnificent.

This book made me ANGRY.

I’ve literally never been this fired up about a book before. Let me start off saying this…. It was UNNECESSARILY long. I’m a fast reader, but this book was brutal to get through. I almost DNF about 10 times and finally ended up finishing and now I’ll never get that time back.

Don’t read ahead if you don’t want spoilers….

Lark and Harbor. I WANTED to like this book, but it was so full of contradictions.

1. Let’s start with my first and biggest problem with this book. Lark is described as a “strong” woman. A woman who’s had to work for everything she’s ever done. She complains when Harbor spends like $8 on a bag of coffee for her, YET…. when she quits her job, she moves in with Harbor. She later gets a job to “help with rent”. Let’s go to medical school. Granted, she thought she as getting a scholarship, but in reality his family is footing her $300,000+ education. During this time HARBOR is paying all her bills, even though they aren’t together anymore and sending her $1,000 each month. WTF? She justifies it because “he left her”. Where the frick is that strong, independent woman?
2. He LEAVES. Just like her mom. Vanishes without a trace and FIVE years go bye before they ever have a real conversation. (They saw each other a few times in the 5 years, but nothing happened.) Then BAM! it’s all sunshine and rainbows. I just lost however many hours of my life trying to make it through this mess for last 30% of the book rushed ending with unicorns farting glitter.
3. Her mother. WTF was that? Oh, I haven’t seen you in 25 years. You’re going to tell me a sob story and all is well again. Let’s hug it out and act like the last 25 years didn’t happen. I don’t care what the circumstances are… that doesn’t happen in real life.

4.) SO LONG. So unnecessarily LONG.
For the record, I love me a good long book. As long as it’s worth being that long. This was not that situation. Like already stated, but what made this long book worse was rushing the ending!

So are there good parts? Possibly? Do I remember them off the top of my head? Nope. This is the first book that I’ve ever gotten this kind of reaction during/after reading it. The annoying parts definitely outweighed any good one.

Swear On My Life is the moving, richly emotional second chance love story of Lark and Harbor. They were each other’s first love and thought they were forever but something transpired to change the course of their fate. It’s an angst ridden delectable glory. It’s a story that weaves heartfelt layers that convincingly portrays grief, fate, second chances, moving on, young decisions, hope and most of all love.

This story was emotional and full of angst. I never doubted these two as a couple, I was itching for them to unveil all their skeletons and move past their past, it takes time, it takes a lot of work, it takes a lot of trust but they get there. S.L. Scott really delivered on all those emotions that I crave and her character connection was on point. She delivered Lark and Harbor’s story with poignancy and passion. Their love was palpable and radiated through the pages and I couldn’t help but frantically read to get to the conclusion I was so desperate for. This was such an unputdownable read for me.

This could have been so.good, but it did not work. The writing, the character development, the pace, it all did not work. I thought it would change, that I would feel and connect with these characters, but I did not. The reason the hero had to stop talking to the heroine was stupid. And the heroine really thought she received a full ride to Yale Medical School?!?!? Idiot. Get a clue. I have no idea why the hero loved the heroine.

I signed up for a second chance romance not an instant love one, and was super confused how it could be classified as second chance when they’re together for literally the whole book besides like 8 chapters at the end? And then it was back to instalove? Not for me unfortunately

This was a very emotional and complicated love story.

A couple that at first glance doesn't suit each other at all.
A couple who have experienced more dramatic things in their young lives than they should have.
A couple who found each other and helped each other overcome a very traumatic experience in their lives.
A young couple who know exactly how to help each other and do exactly that.
It's a beautiful love story with a beautiful HEA.
That's all true, but...

I enjoyed this unusual story at the beginning.
Maybe unusual is the wrong word.
Stranger would be more, what I think about it.
But the longer I read, the more unlikely it was for me that this story was at least a little bit realistic.

Yes, I know, this is all fiction, but come on.
I need at least a little bit of real and authentic events.

Unfortunately, I can't write down why I find this book completely unrealistic because that would mean giving this story away completely, but I need at least some realism in my books so that I can enjoy them.

Yes, I know, I like fantasy, too, but then I know that this is a fantasy story and not a romance 😂

I loved Harbor and Lark’s story and even though I’m someone who typically like the hero more than the heroine that wasn’t even remotely the case here. I loved Lark and wanted to kick Harbor where it would hurt the most cause I just didn’t like his actions towards Lark after everything he did was all said and done but I still enjoyed the book.

A beautiful love story.

4,5 stars

Harbor and Lark's love came with ease and blossomed organically. On the other hand, their path was paved with twists and obstacles.
It was a wonderful experience to watch them getting closer to each other and nurturing their feelings. Their love was meaningful and they weren't afraid to be open about it.

Their pasts were shadowed by pain, grief, and regret, but even though that made them wary, it didn't mare the way they gave themselves to each other. Their hurdles only made them stronger.
And their families were there to support them no matter what.

Even though it seemed excessive to extend their struggle for years (I understand they weren't ready, but it seemed like too much), they starred in a wonderful love story.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE HARBOR & LARKS STORY

First novel by S.L Scott and I’m hooked line and sinker. No push pull. Clean romance. I really loved her writing style.. I felt it. Some authors have a way about their writing that takes you 6 feet under and gives you the feels.. this one did it for me.

Synopsis: these help me remember what the book is about .. I read so many it’s easy to forget. This is my ghetto “rembership” for me.

Boy meets and lightly stalks her, then courts girl.. they have a amazing relationship but due to financial reasons they can’t got to the same college of her dreams (she’s poor but smart) so he gives her his college fund in disguise of a scholarship to pay for her med school and he disappears for 2 years to find himself because it was never his dream to goto med school. It was his dead cousins dream that he felt he needed to fulfill- some insane in the membrane damage he got from his cuz’s death that made him a little mental.

He even paid for her apt and sent her spending money every month for this 2 plus years while she went to Yale Med School. He returns at her graduation to get her back and she refuses to even give him a chance. And then in another 2 years he enters her life again and tries but nope she’s not having it.

I don’t get that part. But hey the story needed the break up to make it a second chance.. eventually she finds out he made “her med school dream” come true and gives him chance then HEA. A bit more happens with her estranged mom but not a lot of drama.

This is the sweetest love story.

4.5* First Love Stars

This was my first read for 2023 and even though it started off a bit slow I ended up really enjoying this second chance love story which spanned years.

Lark and Harbor were each other’s first loves and met while attending the same university. Their love for one another was so strong, it seemed unbreakable until it was not! Sacrifices were made in the name of love which had devastating heartbreak for both of them. Their journey to finding each other again was heartfelt and sincere. I did enjoy that the angst was not overpowering or depressing.

The storytelling was beautiful and the characters likeable and real.

I listened to the Audio version which was very well narrated by Ava Erickson and Jacob Morgan.

I don’t understand why Authors insist on writing nonsense or in this case non existent story, no plot, no character development. No reason for 5 years of separation not even a villain in the story to justify this non existent narrative. At this point it angers me as a reader on the issue of so many Authors just putting books out to have a release.

This book is not worth the time it lacks everything absolutely everything a story should have.

Plot: 🚫 no where to be found
Hot scenes: 🚫 never happened
Headache:🚫 you would think there was specially with all the years apart. Nope non zero nada
Disappointing book:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ takes the cake

The title should be “I don’t know why” because absolutely non of the lines in this book add up.

Let me tell you why.
Girl meets boy they fall in semi love never have sex until later on the book one time. Boy lives with nonsense guilt over his cousin dead, girl over her non existent mom. Boy has money girl is poor parents of boy are only going to pay for her college if he sacrifices a career he doesn’t want so in other words no sacrifice no loss and yet they stay 5 years apart because he has to leave in order for her to be a doctor yet that never needed to happen. Y’all that’s all nothing else the end..

Thoughts

This was a beautiful story and was well written with a conversational and easy to read style. It is a character-driven romance with fantastic chemistry and development between characters. Our main characters, Lark and Harbor, are in their 20s trying to get to graduation and work towards their career goals. However, they're very much opposite, with one being very wealthy and the other not. It gave off great Romeo and Juliet vibes. They work out their differences and continue to develop together, falling deeply in love. However, both have distinct issues to work through and past problems that have had some devastating consequences throughout their lives. My heart broke for them throughout this book, and it is emotional in parts. However, it is not an action-packed, drama driven book. I found their relationship to be mostly uncomplicated, which was refreshing to read. So many romances seem to read like their own soap drama, but this was not that. There is a moment of crisis in the last quarter of the book resulting in second chances, I do wish this was drawn out a bit more as it came across as a little rushed to me. Overall, it is a very sweet romance to settle into with a cup of tea that you won't put down.

Likes

☆ The chemistry between Harbor and Lark was beautiful and uncomplicated. They truly love each other deeply, and it shows in the writing. The spice was fun too, I particularly enjoyed their first time. Harbor is super understanding and gentle. I appreciate that there is little to no miscommunication (my least favorite trope). They're very mature during their conversations.

☆ I enjoyed the overall plotline of their blossoming relationship. I would have liked to see more drama occur regarding their differences and their societal differences.

☆ I loved the final quarter of the book with the second chance situation, albeit a little short and rushed. It was interesting, and I felt hopeful throughout.

☆ Harbor is literal perfection. I would sell my soul for that man.

Dislikes

☆ I felt like the book overall could have used more drama or events. Maybe elaborated on their societal differences. I did like that it was uncomplicated overall, however. The final second chance scenario needed more fleshing out, as it felt short or rushed.

☆ The side characters, I felt, didn't offer much to the overall story. They popped up occasionally with some comments infuriating me, but overall, they didn't progress the story or bulk it out. I felt little to no connection to them.

Happy Reading ❤

3.5 stars!

A swoony and passionate NA love story that becomes an emotional second-chance-romance, this book is SO beautifully romantic! A standalone, opposites attract story with a couple that are true soulmates, I loved this story.

Lark and Harbor meet in College. He is a rich kid who has been through some trauma, but things come pretty easy for him. She has struggled to get where she is, and she’s got big dreams for the future and is working hard to achieve them.

They meet, they flirt, they date and they fall in effortless, breathtaking, all-consuming love. It’s fast-moving and emotional and super-intense, but I was swept up in the emotion of it all. They both have past trauma, and they do have a slight tendency to overreact to things, but on the whole, they are functional and determined to work through any issues and have a healthy relationship.

“Where have you been all my life?” His deep and smooth voice is sexy as he speaks to close that his breath coats my lips in a gentle sweeping kiss.
“I’ve been right here all along.”

And, of course, they are all about the feelings – sharing their emotions, loving each other openly and freely, and expressing that love in all the ways. They are wildly passionate for each other, and they’re not shy with the big declarations, and this book is a swoonfest!

Cupping my face, he kisses me and leans his forehead against mine. “You’re the whole fucking universe. You’re where time begins and ends and every moment in between.”

But they have challenges to face, and their decisions both broke my heart and frustrated me greatly. I didn’t like the way they dealt with things. It actually took me a while to understand why they thought they had to make the decisions they did, and I was frustrated at the way they handled it, and the amount of time it took for them to find their way back to each other. But when that second chance comes, oh, the feels!

“I met my soul mate at twenty-two,” he says, his eyes searching mine. “If I were to ever share my life again, it will only be with you.”

It’s a very sweet story. These two soulmates had me feeling everything as they fought and sacrificed, and eventually found their happy ending.

3.5 stars.

I’m so sad I didn’t love this book more. Last year I read Scott’s The Best I Ever Had, and it cemented itself in my Top Romance Reads. But this one, it just didn’t have that same spark. I’d definitely rate it on the lower side of 3 stars, which saddens me. But I’m nothing but honest when it comes to reviews.

It starts off great, Harbour Westcott is crushing on the girl in his class, Lark Summerlin. He makes it his mission to find a way for them to talk, and when they do they’re very cute together.

They quickly become a couple, and fall head over heels in love. They have a really overwhelming romance, you feel it all and it’s romantic and sweet and there’s an abundance of love and respect. There’s no OW drama. There’s no asshole behaviour, there’s just normal bumps in the road for the two of them. Including the fact that Harbour is rich and Lark is not.

Now that’s where it kind of stalls. This book has a number of different stories running throughout it. And that’s where it didn’t work for me. There’s so much going on, so many underdeveloped storylines that it all became a big mass of meh.

There’s Harbour’s secret, his underlying self worth issues, Lark’s mother, Dane and his elitism issues and wtf was up with Amanda?? There’s more drama with Dane and his girlfriend Mia, which I really didn’t see the point of and I also didn’t feel their brotherly/sisterly bond. In fact I didn’t feel much for any of the characters.

Harbour was the best character by far, followed by his parents. They’re storyline would have been great as the main attraction. Lark is annoyingly nice. She borders on the cusp of the Wet Lettuce gang. Amanda was a bitch. Dane was a prick and I didn’t care for one of them throughout the entire book.

The other thing that bothered me was the time jumps at the end. Two years pass and then another two ~ only for Lark to tell Harbour she needs another year before she can hear his reasons for doing what he did. FIVE YEARS!??? Listen I would have had it out of him the first time he popped back into my life. Also those jumps never really delve into what’s going on in their lives enough for you to feel the want between them, the hurt, the despair.

So if you don’t mind an easy read with low angst and not a decent reason for the H to make a dumb decision.. this is the book for you!!

Swear On My Life is a lovely, bittersweet, angsty story that put me through the wringer until the very end. Harbor Westcott was born into wealth and a somewhat dysfunctional family. He kept a secret that he never should have, but he did it to protect his cousin's memory. Lark Summerlin's father owns a garage and they've done well, aren't close to being wealthy, but John loves what he's doing. Harbor and Lark meet at school, their senior year of college, and even though they're from different ends of the earnings spectrum, they are immediately drawn together. They have an ease about them in their everyday relationship that doesn't take long to grow into much more. After college, they both plan to go to Yale to study pre-med, but Lark's scholarship doesn't come through and Harbor makes a decision that could very well mark the end of their love. This was a beautiful, richly described story with characters that epitomized true love, until Harbor left her behind. He made a plan for Lark's future, lied by omission and didn't say a word before leaving which, in my mind, was wholly unforgivable. His parents had to tell her that he was gone but, of course, he did it because he loved her so much. He thought he was doing the right thing by giving her the "dream she always wanted," but what he didn't realize was that he turned her life into a nightmare. We are left with no idea what he could be thinking and it's a little disconcerting because so many possibilities went through my mind. I have to admit it came as a surprise, but fit what we knew about him so well. And I held on to the hope that what he did was because he loved Lark so much and their lives wouldn't be the same if he didn't. At this point, the story turned bittersweet and I had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. He stayed away too long and then the minute he's home, he has to wonder "if" he should see Lark again. There was no urgency in his mind at all, and where was his remorse? It's only a "me" thing that I was disappointed that he was too controlling and his decisions were 100% one-sided. I wanted him to see things through Lark's eyes. Once he is ready to come home, his attempts to reconnect with Lark don't go well and he gave up too easily, letting her walk away. She deserved so much more. Why so secretive? Every person feels things differently while reading the story and I felt an apology was the first thing he should offer her. This story touched a part of me that was disappointed in Harbor, but that's on me. As long as he and Lark could find their HEA, I was all right with it! This book is wonderfully written and certainly pulls at your heartstrings. Suzie writes such emotionally complex stories and her characters are some that you will never forget!

This week has been brutal and I've been so freaking tired that I thought that I wouldn't be able to read this book. Or any book, if I'm being honest.
But I just realized that it doesn't matter if I'm tired or not because books are my safe haven.
I've been wanting to read this author's books for so long and I actually have a few in my TBR, but just one glimpse at this blurb and I knew, I knew that I needed to read it.
S.L. Scott is the author that I'm talking about and I need to have more time for her books.
Her writing is sweet with a touch of darkness and suspense, the perfect combination.
Swear On My Life is her latest release and explores the lives of Harbor and Lark.
Harbor is a hunk of a man and he knows it. He has it all, money, good looks, and charisma.
Lark is a sweet girl, with a huge heart and big dreams.
When these two cross paths, something tights them together but...
Oh boy. What a premiere this was.
I really needed this story.
Amazing plot, well written, super engaging, intense, and with a severe issue being reported.
These two were perfect for each, imperfections be damned...
I'm not going to lie, when I started to read this story, I had my doubts.
Mainly because I didn't know this author, but I was wrong.
I love the interaction between the main characters. Loved his dedication to her.
It's not easy to overcome trauma, but with the right people by your side, you'll achieve everything.
Trust is the key.
There were parts of the book where I saw myself biting my nails and wishing that everything would be okay...
What a journey this was.
Loved everything and can't wait to read more.
SL... Uau, loved this and I'll be reading more books from you. That's for sure.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
