Rate this book
I’m captured by dragon shifters.
They say I’m their fated Mate.
If they discover I’m magical, I’ll be put to death.

I reject them, but they won’t take no for an answer. It doesn’t matter how they soften my heart or make my body sing. The rule of The Six is absolute. If I don’t keep my secret, then Drisella will kill them. I can’t let that happen.

I have to get back to the wolf shifters who’ve protected me all my life. I've learned what The Six are planning to do and I must warn everyone.

Ancient Fae magic has awoken inside me. A piece of the fabled Fae King’s grimoire is demanding to be let loose and I can’t control it.

The secret of my past is remembered. A decades long plan has started that the parents I never knew died for.

The Six are coming for us. My dragon Mates are in danger. I must control the untamable magic locked inside me and take down the most powerful beings the Earth has ever known b efore they destroy everything and everyone I love.

Magic Bonded is the second book in this dystopian romance series. This action-packed, heart-wrenching ride gives you a kickass heroine, three irresistible shifters, a steamy romance with no choosing required, and evil enemies like you've never seen before in each book.

This was painful to read. Basically an exact copy and paste of the first one, but The fmc, who was an interesting side character in book 1, became 2s2l. Same nickname, same smells assigned to the mates, same denial segment. Also had some editing issues and typos

This story was a lot like the first book. Anise was found by the wolves when she was a child, and they took care of her. Anise can do magic and believes she is human. Damon is an Alpha Dragon and believes that Anise is the mate to him and his 2 seconds, Callen and Naet. Damon takes Anise away from the shack she is hiding in. Anise is denying that she is their mate and just wants to go back home. The Dragons believe the wolves have brainwashed her.

Anise keeps trying to escape, but her mates and persistent and will not let her go. But when a member of the Six comes looking for Anise, will the Dragons be able to protect her?.

I had no idea how to rate this. I’m hooked and want to know what happens to The Six. The plot and world building has me intrigued BUT

The “mating” thing is very repetitive between books. Could use a little more editing because sometimes I have to read the body positions they’re in 5 times over to try to wrap my brain around it and usually it still doesn’t seem possible. They also say the word “mate” 1000+ times which gets old. Also, they are aroused 97% of the time. But if you can get past all that, it’s not bad! Haha

Was meine ich denn wohl?

Magic Bonded is the second installment in Charmaine Ross’ “Cursed Shifters” series. It is an engaging RH paranormal romance with a strong heroine and three beastly dragon shifters. This book is filled with action, magic, great steam, and tension.

The main female protagonist is Anise, a young woman found abandoned as a child in the woods by wolf shifters. She was protected by the shifter pack and raised with Alerick, Eike, and Jarom as her brothers. Anise has little recollection of her life prior to being found by the shifter pack but she knows she has magical abilities. Anise is a very sweet, gentle, and innocent heroine. She always helps those in need and has a central part in saving Serafine from book one. Anise knows she has magical abilities but believes to be simply human, as she has never shifted before.

During a scene in the first book, Anise is swiftly taken by Eike to a remove shack in the woods for protection from the society of The Six. That is when the dragon alpha, Damon, catches a whiff of her scent and recognizes the mate bond. Damon trespasses on wolf territory to find his fated mate. He terrifies Anise when he shifts into his dragon form and gets hurt. Damon proceeds to get her to dragon lands for safety. Once her head wound heals, she meets her other fated mates; Callen and Naet. Anise rejects the mating bond. She believes dragons are beastly and dangerous creatures. Plus, she has never shifted so fate must have it wrong that these dragons are her mate. She tries to get away but the men refuse to accept her rejection and are very persistent. She soon realizes that she can’t fight fate and must rely on these men to protect her from Drisella, a member of The Six, that wants Anise badly enough to kill anyone who gets in her way.

Overall, this was a great sequel to this new series. Charmaine Ross is very gifted at writing engaging, action-packed, and romantic paranormal books. The continuation of the story was great and I really look forward to future books in this series. If you love the fated mate trope with a kickass heroine, fast paced action, and steamy scenes, you'll definitely love this series!

3.5 /5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ overall
3/5 🌶🌶🌶spice
3.5/5 🐲 👩‍🦰🧔‍♂️🐉characters
3.5/5 📘📗📔📓plot

Magic Bonded is the second instalment in the Cursed Shifters series by Charmaine Ross.

This book follows Anise, the young magical girl from book 1, who the wolves found in the woods and took in. It is very, very similar to book one, and is in fact essentially the exact same plot, just with different characters. Anise is taken by Dragon shifters who claim she is their mate, but she rejects the idea as she is not a shifter.....but surprise....she actually is (literally exactly the same as Serafines story in book 1). She must also embrace the mate bond in order to unlock her magic, defeat the Six, save the Dragon shifters and the entire world.

One thing I did like in this book was that the story around the ancient grimoire and its magic moves a lot quicker, and we get more answers about how it came to be and back story on the Six. Another thing I really enjoyed was the world building and description of the underground Dragon settlements and caves.

The spice: there were more spicy scenes in this book than book 1, and they were more descriptive. There is still no sword crossing in this book but I really hope we see some in the future books. As with book 1, Anise is a virgin but takes all three mates in her first experience which I found somewhat not believable. She doesn't even describe any sort of pain or discomfort for her first time, which... yeah... not believable either.

The characters: The characters were fine. I wasn't super endeared to the males but I did really like Anise.

I'm looking forward to seeing where book 3 goes, with the connection to Jorum from book 1 and the new female protagonist in book 3. Hopefully book 3 is a bit more of an original story and not the same plot and characters from the previous 2 books.

DNF 14%. From the beginning, it’s a mess.
In the last book, they found her wand under the floorboards of her torn up house, but here, she fled the house and dropped the wand somewhere outside.

Then, she’s surrounded by strangers as she wakes, and she thinks, ‘Mate. The word landed like a knife…’
But no one had said it??
Or even thought it, that we know of.

We do know that’s what the strangers are to her, of course, but it’s not even remotely a topic of conversation yet.

The writing is more stilted here.

The name ‘Naet’ made my brain hurt so much that I just typed ‘name’ as ‘naem.’

‘Fireheart’ is cute but it felt sacrilegious for the nickname to be used on anyone but Aelin.

And then there’s the body betrayal she just succumbs to maybe 10% in.

We barely know these people.
Worse, she barely knows these people.
There’s a time and a place but this is not it.

Good spice is just like in real life, there has to be chemistry for any sparks to occur.
This was just ridiculous and made the FMC look weak, especially when the FMC from the first book held out for practically the whole thing.

And then the plot starts unfolding just like the first one, except with degraded writing quality, careful respect has been exchanged for chaotic aggression, and an overly pliant main character who has given us no reason to root for her at all.

I love dragons and was excited to see where this story went, but my high hopes instantly crashed and burned.

meh 😕

This is the second time reading this book, and only because I was rereading the series with the realease of the fourth book in the series. I’d forgotten how difficult this was to read, and only finished because there’s information that’s needed for the next one.

I liked the first and third books, but this manufactured angst between bonding was so unnecessary that it was actually painful slogging through. I mostly had a problem seeing Anise as such an idiot that she’s forgotten all she learned the week before regarding Seraphine’s case: that she, too, didn’t know she was a shifter until she shifted, and that the Seraphine’s memories Anise’s spell recalled were eerily similar to that of her own nightmares. I know I was dumb at 20, but was I that dumb?

She also came to the same conclusion of the mates using her for magic that she argued AGAINST when Seraphine said the same thing the week (or so) before.

I also don’t like the sexual assaults in this series… they say “we won’t do anything you don’t want” but forced nudity and grabbing and kidnapping were all things the heroines didn’t want. I hope future books portray assault as what it is.

However, I do like the overall story of the series and is the reason I slogged through this book.

I was a little worried that I wasn't going to like this book when I started reading and Anise was trying to get away from her mates because I was worried that she was going to be overcome by the mate bond and just give up on trying to save everyone and stay true to herself because that's typically pretty common in books with fated mates. Thankfully, that was not the case. Anise continued to fight for what she knew she had to do to help keep her friends and family safe, despite the presence of her new mates.
I was not a Damon fan at first, and if you read this book, I think you will know exactly why, but he did grow on me. Callen wins the award for being the most patient and calm, but even he can only stay calm for so long.
As always, Charmaine Ross gave us some excellent spice, especially in the very last scene.
Finally, since I am a sucker for a good animal character, I have to share how much I loved Nimbar. Sweet girl was so mad at Anise and she seems like just the absolute cutest little (big?) thing when she was described as barking and whining. I'm really hoping that future books bring more draugrs that act like Nimbar :)
One of my favorite things about this series is that there is a solid conclusion at the end of each book. Even if the overarching plot isn't coming to a close, so far each book has ended with a definite conclusion about our main character and their mates.
Highly recommend if you like reverse harem, fated mates, and shifters!

I think if I had skipped the first book and started with this one, I may have liked it a little better than I did. It unfortunately felt very similar to Book 1, with the FMC not wanting her mates, being secretive, trying to escape them, etc. I also have the same issue with the MMCs feeling pretty flat. They do at least have some personality, but we know so little about them when we know a lot about Anise that it made them feel less fleshed out.

As for spice, it does have one or two open-door scenes that are detailed but not overly so, but it’s definitely towards the end.

Overall, it was a fine read but nothing really stuck with me. It is the second book in the series and relies a bit on the events of the first book (the MCs of the first book also make an appearance). I think you would be fine reading it as a standalone, but I would recommend starting with Book 1 if you can.

This series isn't letting go of me anytime soon. It just keeps getting better and better.

Anise was adopted by wolves when she was very little and found in the woods. Fast forward many years, she has helped Seraphine find who she really is and now it seems, it's her turn.

Enter 3 hot dragons and let the sparks fly, or not. What Anise learns is hard to swallow for her and to believe what she is feeling is real, seems impossible. A lot of action, more secrets revealed, and another of the 'SIX' that needs to be taken down and you have a book that will keep you guessing and not wanting to put it down.

I couldn't stop reading and I know you'll feel the same as you get to know Anise and her three dragon mates.

Book 2 in the Cursed Shifter Series. I am honored to have been a Beta reader for the rewrite of this book. Charmaine has created a very wonderful story about the Dragon Shifter part of this series.
Anise is discovered by Damon one of the Alpha Dragons as their true bond mate and takes her home to Naet and Callan his bond mates.
Drisella is one of The Six that rules the Dragon territory. Hungry for the magic to make her immortal. She is very evil and stops at nothing to get what she wants. Causing lots of trauma in the souls she tortures.
I devoured this book. It's very well written and the characters are well developed. There is a lot of suspense, secrets revealed, truths that are hard to digest and believe. Very steamy between Anise and her 3 mates.
I highly recommend this book and this series. Definitely a must read.

I recently finished the 1st book and thought I'd get into the 2nd. I haven't felt the urge to quickly read them one after the other, as each book has followed a different character.

In saying that, the plot of this one was basically a carbon copy of book 1 just different characters. While I did enjoy it, I didn't feel as much of a connection to the characters, although I did really love Anise.

**SPOILERS BELOW**

I did like the idea of the grimoire being hidden in each different person and being bound with magic.

I'm also interested to see where the 3rd book goes with the next character!

Seriously loving this series. The first book was brilliant and was pretty action packed so seeing how the next book would progress the story was always going to be interesting, bloody hell I wasn’t disappointed! This book has a different fmc and I think it adds a different dynamic when that happens. The main plot stays the same but phew it’s hot! With lots of action and dragon shifters! Lots of them all wanting the same woman! What’s not to love. Can’t wait for the next book.

Really loving this series!
Magic Bonded hits it out of the ballpark as a sequel to the first book in this series. I adore dragon shifters. Damon, Naet, and Callan are a perfect trio for the magic-wielding Anise. Even though Anise has always been magical and witnessed her wolf brother's bond with Serafine in the previous book, she still denies the possibility that she is the dragons' mate and the keeper of ancient magic. This story is packed with action, something I really like about a good romance. Can't wait for the next in the series.

This story picks up where Aniste is dropped off at the cabin after Eike drops her off to protect her from Eioste. Aniste is taken from the cabin by the alpha dragon. She is so freaked out about him being a dragon that she falls off a mountain and he catches her.

This book was so good and loved that the mates in this story fully accepted her from the beginning. They are all alpha, super protective, obsessive, and delicious. I am really looking forward to the rest of the series as they put together the book and defeat all of the SIX.

Disappointing. Following the first one, I was hoping for an improvement to the story or at least the writing.

I feel quite annoyed now that I've finished it because it's a massive waste of time. Incredibly lazy copy and paste or the first book but even less thought out. Skims over important details and gives far too much to things you don't need to know. This author got this book all wrong.

There's no chemistry for me between the characters and I really struggled to finish this because it was so boring.

I'm glad that Anise is the main character in this one because I wasn't a super huge fan of Serafine in book one. I still had a little bit of a hard time following the story and after reading two of Charmaine's books, I think it may just be that I, personally, have a hard time following her writing style. This is by no means any sort of critique on her abilities, just that perhaps her style isn't for me.

Three Dragons for Anise

Anise is a magical human hiding with the wolf shifters when she’s kidnapped by a dragon who claims she’s their mate. From there, more and more secrets are revealed, leading to the biggest shock of all. Damon, Naet, Callum and Anise’s story is gripping and action-packed - I never wanted to put it down!

A great 2nd in the series

Loved Anise's story, how hot are her dragon shifters. There's the perfect amount of plot and smut. One qualm I have is why do we get background onthe female characters but not on the males.

Paranormal RH Series

I received an ARC from BookSprout and am leaving my review voluntarily. This is book 2 in the Cursed Shifters Series. It is an RH paranormal series. Try to read book 1 as the storyline is all connected.

Triggers:

Spoilers:
Damon, Callan and Naet - dragon shifters

Anise, raised by the wolves after she had been found as a young child but kept hidden as she has magic inside her.

When the wolves are attacked, Anise goes to hide in her mountain cabin. There she is found and taken by the dragons who sense she is their mate.

A bit of action with the bad dragon attacking the good dragons. Anise finds out her true story. Sexy time.

The 3 dragon mates seemed decent enough. Anise was annoying - because of what happened with Seraphine (book 1, Magic Claimed) I don't understand how Anise didn't think something similar could be happening with her.
