The invasion of the Milky Way has begun, and the Empire is winning easily, but when it becomes clear that the war with the Asferja will be nowhere near an end before the next invasion arrives and forces them to split their focus, Paul is tapped to lead a small team to the nearby galaxy of Andromeda where the Asferja intergalactic 'threads' are tethered, with more being created as the war goes on.

But the Empire can't send a warfleet with him. The Essence cost of intergalactic travel would be far too high, but thanks to their alliance with the Neofan they have another option. Paul and a few others from the Empire are going to take Vikarathe to Andromeda and use his status with the Vargemma there to quickly assemble a warfleet and strike the Asferja from the rear, cutting the 'threads' and taking some pressure off the Milky Way as they prep for round two to arrive...all the while still fighting the Hadarak in the center of the galaxy.

The number of enemy races is going to build fast and attempt to overwhelm the Empire, and drawing some of the fight to Andromeda will be a key strategic move this early in the Gauntlet Wars...but it will also imperil the native races in Andromeda, some of which belong to the Bond of Resistance and are already fighting the Asferja and losing territory to them as the insectoid race is not just passing through, but setting up breeding grounds to grow more troops locally before sending them into the Milky Way to hammer the Empire indefinitely.

The only way to stop this unending stream of 'bugs' is to not just strike at them in Andromeda, but to move in permanently. Only by conquering the galaxy and expanding the Empire can they blunt this attack. To do so they'll need the Empire's best naval commander and an army of civilians, troops, scientists, techs, and everything else necessary to annex Andromeda.

It is said that the true power of the lightside takes time to build, and does so off past actions. The Empire now has a chance to colonize Andromeda in a short period of time due to one such past action. An act of mercy. Paul may be the one to lead the Vargemma against the threads, but the future of Andromeda comes down to another part of the Empire that wouldn't exist if not for the actions of a single enemy commander who tried to take his own life and was stopped by Paul long, long ago before recruiting him to fight for the good guys.

He didn't even have a name back then, an anonymous individual in a massive swarm race. But Paul did give him a name, one revered by the Empire from its ancient mythology, for it's match with his mastermind skills. While the Vargemma and Paul fight to protect the Milky Way, the fate of Andromeda will come down to the civilization building powers of the Paladin under the leadership of the individual simply known as...Thrawn.

Too much philosophy and bragging

New enemies and explanations of the wider war, which is good. However, it is bogged down by the need to fill space with how superior Star Force is, which is weird since that has been established over the course of the last several hundred books, lol.

That and the weird need to tell untrustworthy allies and recently defeated enemies, all your plans is just... silly.

For the length of time between book releases, there's just too little actual juicy content compared to mostly rehashed information from previous novels.

Veey disappointing to read

The story progresses... slowly

When Star Force was a monthly installment the heavy use of strange names and divergent plots was not a distraction but now that we get a book twice a year, the alphabet soup of names and plot threads becomes an impediment and slows the pacing while reducing the enjoyment. When you spend 20% of your reading time searching the various fan forums to refresh yourself on the obscure and random naming perhaps simplicity is in order.

I do enjoy the overall plot and the current arc is interesting, the pacing has stagnated somewhat.

Great Book!

Although parts of the story were rather… dull, and I get the distinct feeling this book is more to set up for a larger conflict rather than jumping directly into the action, it was a solid addition to the series. I must say, having a single conversation taking up around seven percent of the book is a bit much, but the conversation was interesting. Props to the author for that. As far as characters go, this series is promising to have far more complex ones than the original series, which is great! Old ones made some cameo appearances, which was really cool too. Some other reviews rant and rave about how the author tells the audience how good and perfect his characters are, but I have found it extraordinarily difficult to find sci-fi that doesn’t try and convert readers to a specific philosophy. It’s no different here, only the author is very blunt about it.
Let me be clear. This book has its failings, but it’s also an incredible addition to a very long storyline that we are only beginning to see.

Full of potential

Book 2 continues to establish and bring to life the epic concept of the Gauntlet Wars. The use of different perspectives of new yet secondary characters provides immersive depth to the story. I particularly enjoyed the detail on how the Star Force carrier ships fight from the perspective of one it’s controllers and their reactions to the sheer power of the Furyan fleet commander when they witness it for the first time. Can’t wait for the next one. My request of the editors is to put more diligence into proofing the manuscript for there are too many typos.

I've read all the previous books over the years. Some of this book seemed to aim at bringing new readers up to speed as to how Star Force operates by attempting to convert the enemies into allies for the greater good. There is a lot of slope dragging parts where the author uses all sorts of terms that I have lost track of over the years explaining the light side vs. dark side and getting into Star Wars lingo and characters. However, the overall storyline kept my interest and the book reading pace picked up and left me hanging to see what happens in the next book. I too would like to see more of the original characters brought into the story :-)

Nice

So I like where this is going. I am hoping the author pulls in more of the "main" charters from the previous books.

It will be interesting to see where the author takes the story. I just wish the books were longer. But I understand that if he keeps each book shorter. He can get them out faster.

But the books have come a long way. From where they started years ago. ... lol

So take a chance and go grab book one. And start beng reading.

Becoming a philosophy book

I have read all the books since the beginning. While there have been a few books I liked less than others it has always been an interesting universe the author has built.

While this doesn't change in this book, I feel (my opinion) there is waaaaay too much talk on the philosophy of the lightside/darkside. It dominates this book and the last one with no where near enough combat or details about the conquest of a new galaxy.

Interesting and as well written as usual. Really interesting take on the mythology of souls. Stylistically still hoping for improvement, especially after the wait. It felt like two disassociated books between the first and second halves with the background worldbuilding separated from the latest combat situation, though they were entertaining as usual.

Excellent intra galactic space adventure

The Star Force series is composed of 100+ smaller books, that have created a massive universe. Not just a world. Not just a star system. Not a galaxy. This is massive and yet the story continues to move with great speed and pacing. It's wonderful and my favorite sci-fi series.

Exceeded my expectations.

Having read a lot of Sci-fi and fantasy, this book surprised me. It has a different style of writing compared to most others. I couldn’t put my finger on it, I just know that I enjoyed it. I did not understand some sections as I realise now their are many other books leading to this one.

slow advancement

The storyline does advance. Weird gaps in some of the elements of the base war in Milky Way versus Andromeda make it somewhat confusing.
I have been invested so far, but believe I will leave this for a few years to see if it goes anywhere and spend time on other stories.

I think this series is in the ballpark of 300 books so far. Most of those are 100 page short books. He's cleaned up the text quite a bit. I'm liking that these later installments are a longer more normal book length. It's still not the best writing. But it is a sweet merging of all the best sci-fi concepts, and is epic in scale. I'll keep reading them as fast as the author can write them.

I want another 100 books to read — The universe is infinite

Build out the story — 1000 books — help us imagine the possibilities. Fuel us with the curiosity fire while simultaneously exposing the values and goals that must become one with our nature if we expect to become a spacefaring species

Wild Ride

I’m happy to see the series continue. As soon as the books come out, I spend hours in a far far away place and enjoy the ride. Looking forward to the next one. Fantastic book and series.

fast paced

Star force origin and the follow up gauntlet wars is an amazing series with amazing character development and back ground information. Even with character development, story development, and back ground development the series is fast paced.

Enjoy

AWESOME

Keep them coming. Star force is my primary series. All others I read are to simply take time while waiting for the next chapter in the star force series.

a great continuation and lord building addition

As the title says. If you’re seeing this without reading the past two series I would highly suggest that you do.

I will have to wait impatiently for the next edition in the series. I would recommend this book and the series is an easy read.

I LOVE the first (origins, phase 2) two series by this author. Gauntlet wars Andromeda has gotten waaay too long, tedious, and to be quite honest, boring. Cut out all the fluff and you're left with maybe 10% (or more like 5%) of the book that actually moves the story forward. I would love to read a book twice as long if it was actually full of story, but, it isn't. Yawn.
