The False Starts #3

For Heaven's Sake

Rate this book
From the author of FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH comes a brand-new enemies to lovers romantic comedy about a heroine who needs a fake date stat! The only man at her disposal is the one man she despises the most. Forced proximity, undeniable chemistry, and hilarity.

A destination wedding. A best man who could be Lucifer himself. A week of pretending. This can only mean one thing. Disaster.

Reagan Kennedy needs a date for her brother’s wedding — stat! — or her matchmaking great aunt will set her up with yet another orthodontist. A week of pulling her hair out of boredom? No, thank you.
What’s a girl to do but get a pretend boyfriend? Except, the guy in question is public enemy number one, the guy who made her break girl code seven years ago.

Jason Cowley would do anything to get his best friend’s geriatric great aunt to stop groping his package at every turn. Anything.
When an opportunity arises to fake a relationship with the hellion’s great niece, he’s determined to secure the deal. Especially since he’s harbored feelings for her all these years.

When the unlikely pair joins forces in convincing their families they’re together, everything combusts.
Not only do their separate rooms turn into a newlyweds’ cottage, but with secrets piling up, and sparks flying their fragile ceasefire is in danger.
For Reagan, with every moment she spends with the devil incarnate, it becomes clear there’s more to him than meets the eye.

When a fake relationship stirs real feelings, will they let the past keep them apart, or give in to their hearts?

And when fake turns into real, will they listen to their hearts?

A perfect read for fans of Tessa Bailey, Christina Lauren and Meghan Quinn.

She calls him Beelzebub. He calls her Flames. It's a match made in hell...or heaven.

This book is extremely neat for me to read... The main character had a life-saving surgery and has a scar...like me. The man who loves her, thinks it makes her stronger...like my guy. It's striking home in more ways than one. Unsettling and amazing all at once. I even take photos like Reagan does. It's like someone wrote a book about my husband and I (without Jason's past with drinking and drugs). Even the contrivance of setting us up is very similar...

There are some movie references that are personal favorites. I know you know that I know what I'm talking about. (Any Joey/Phoebe/Monica fans out there?) And "You think I'm gorgeous, you want to kiss me, you want to hug me, you want to looove me." 🤣

Not to mention the 🌶️ factor... 💯! It's the spiciest book of the series I feel. Everything went together so well, and the flow of the book was just really natural. It was easy to get lost in it, to be absorbed into the story and to fall in love with the characters as they fall in love with each other. This is my favorite book of the series yet!

Towards the end a few more characters are introduced, one by the name of Katie. Selfishly, I think her character is named after me. Although you can't walk into a room swinging a dead cat and not hit a Katie. Lol! I cannot wait for her story!

Thank you to J. Preston for an ARC of For Heaven's Sake! My husband appreciates that I love to read your books, and understands that I put aside my chores until I finish reading your newest work. Props to him too for keeping the house running while I have my nose glued to my Kindle. The review above is my own.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. 😁

💜 Ok, I have to start by saying - wow! That was an emotional ride!
I felt like I've read a real life story! Everything was so flowing and interesting.
It was funny, it had drama, it was exciting, it was emotional yet still fitting for the light hearted book lovers and of course there was a huge and amazing LOVE!

❤️ Jason is the sweetest thing ever! I mean I thought he wasn't so appealing in the first book of the series but in this book I fall in love with him. He was an angel! 😇
He was such a deep person! He was strong emotionally but also very sensitive!
He was everything! I love him! He is special and sweet and you really don't get many H like that.
💙 Ray, Reagan, I will say that at first I didn't understand her.
I didn't know what was her motives to act the way she did but as the book progress I've discovered something that instantly made me admire her.
She went through something a little similar to what I went through and she was brave, she was strong, and even though it took her time to get to be at peace with everything, the way was important and only made me like her more! 💖

🤔 When you change your mind to the better about a character after getting to know her or him, you know that the author took you on a journey and you enjoyed the ride! 😉

💓 I loved that the author took two of my favorite tropes (enemies to lovers and fake relationship) and play with it differently! I won't say what she did but it definitely added to the story! It gave it uniqueness.
All the characters from former books made an appearance of course and I loved it!

📚 Be ready for an emotional yet happy and sweet ride with this book! READ IT!!

Yessss I've been waiting for this story and J Preston did not disappoint!

Rey and Jason have a rocky past which leads to a future where they actively avoid each other, and Rey down right hates Jason. He's her devil in disguise and so this is a match made in hell... Or so it would seem!

It's Carter and Sydney's wedding and in order to get people off of their backs Rey and Jason decide to be in a "fake relationship" but things are never that simple are they 😏

I loved the back and forth between these two, their HEA was hard fought for but I loved every second of it! And I was glad to see much of our beloved characters from previous books - Jenny & Aiden, Carter & Sydney, and of course Aunt B 😍

If you're looking for the lighter side of enemies to lovers, fake relationship, with a great big dose of humour then this book is for you!!

My heart just exploded reading this book! Rey and Jason are everything you want to read in a sexy romance novel.
The “enemies” to lovers trope is one that I always seem to enjoy and these characters did not disappoint! Rey had her mind made up about Jason but thanks to their families and friends she was able to see the true Jason and what kind of life she could have with him.
The love and adoration that Jason had for Rey was not only heart stopping but the sexy times were 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!
This book has an amazing group of secondary characters and it’s great to have the other couples so prevalent in all the books.
J Preston is one of my favorite new to me authors. I cannot wait for this series to continue and to see what the future holds for these characters! This is a MUST read for romance junkies like me 💕💕💕
I received an ARC from the author 😊

Such a great read! Rey and Jason are a sexy couple their hotness and friendliness jump off the page making you completely smitten with them in this sweet 'enemy to lover' 'fake date' romance.
Rey has seen his bad side and she will not let herself forget it. Years she has stayed strong, stayed away, but that is pretty hard when he's your brothers best friend!
The adoration Jason has had, and held, for Rey is so wonderful. Never giving up, making himself better- A better man and person.

The stellar cast of characters do not disappoint! A full on 'set' of secondary characters, friends, parents and a crazy aunt, an aunt that is so utterly hilarious she sometimes steals the scenes oops!

You become family as you read the series, understand the crazy, accept the love.

Now, flying high, winging their way to Carters', her brother/ his best friend, destination wedding (btw- at a freakin' tropical island!!) They begin to realise, well Rey does because Jason has been bitten by the love bug for years, their history is not as it seems, that he is not that cheating jock she thought him to be.

Remember that cast of characters I mentioned?!? Well their sticky fingers are all over Rey and Jas. So much so you may need to make a list- plus ones/ missed flights/ shared rooms.....

Love is in the tropical air.

Wow, wow, wow! There are so many amazing things I could say about this book, this story, and these characters that I truly don’t know where to start. From page one I was absolutely in love with Reagan and my absolute obsession over the character only grew as the story progressed. Reagan, or Rey, is beautifully flawed and human and absolutely lovable at the same time. Her attitude, sass, and grumpiness towards Jason is hilarious and absolutely understandable but only makes you fall more in love with the idea of them together.
The dual pov’s was truly an amazing decision as seeing the inner thoughts of both Reagan and Jason allow you to fall in love with them individually and together. Speaking as someone who reads a lot of books, I want a Jason in my life. He is the epitome of a dreamy surfer boy and is so effortlessly described and easy to picture that he truly came alive in my head.
This book is perfect for fans of the fake dating trope and is paced perfectly so it doesn’t feel rushed or too drawn out and is easy to engage with. The story flows naturally and there's something in it for everyone. For the readers who like the mushy gushy moments you will love this book! For the readers who want more of the smut and fire, well, his nickname for her is Flames…
Overall I recommend this book to literally everyone who has ever been a fan of romance novels or rom-coms. It is gorgeously done and the characters are perfectly imperfect and it is so easy to fall into the pages and get taken to the island with Reagan and Jason.

This is my first read by J.Preston, & I can honestly say, it will not be my last.
Jason & Reagan were absolutely perfect. They both had very deep desires for each other for a long time, but due to a misunderstanding, the desire showed in the form of hate.
I loved that it was the male lead was the one that was so in love and pursuing at all cost. Jase’s heart and demeanor is just so swoony & heartwarming. He’s a breath of fresh air. I love that their communication, although forced by proximity, was so thorough that the truth was discovered and they were able to move on from it. They still had challenges & my heart broke a little, but I’m so glad it was made right for them to get their HEA.
Now…to go back & read the rest!!

For Heaven’s Sake is a fun quick read. It’s a humorous story with a lot of heart.
Jason and Rey have a lot of chemistry. When they’re together sparks (or insults) fly!!! I absolutely loved seeing how their relationship changed when each bared their soul.
Grid book. I recommend!

Until a few days ago I had never heard of this author or this series. As of finishing this book I am hooked. This book was everything I love. A second chance at the one you think could have been your forever, old brother's best friend, tons of spice and emotional feelings throughout the pages, a quirky family member who can't help but make you laugh, and a brother who wants nothing but his sister's happiness with the best man he knows. I could not put it down!

Jason and Reagan were so perfect together. It was a hate/if she wants to hate me I'll accept that relationship. I think that was the one thing I didn't like about Rey. She took what she thought was the truth and ran her hatred off it instead of actually finding out the truth. Jason took it all in stride just so he could be near her. Though he didn't make an effort to change her way of thinking. This wedding and the way they were thrown together is just what their hearts needed.

Aunt Bertie was a hoot. She's that crazy family member that we all cringe at but love to have around. Carter was a great big brother and awesome best friend. The rest of the crew was wonderful as well. But Rey and Jason just stole my heart. And speaking of hearts... mine ached for Rey. She was so strong. As hard as it was I'm glad she made the decision she did.

I haven't read the books in the series prior to this one. While I didn't have an issue following the story I think I would have loved it even more if I had. I may have to find the time to read them.

*I received an advanced copy of this story and am leaving my honest and unbiased review*

Reagan is prickly, Bertie is a perv, and Jason is precious!! For Heaven's Sake is a wonderfully funny and deliciously spicy rom-com that is MUST READ! I will admit Aunt Bertie is the stranger danger/family pervert of every after school special rolled into one and I found myself cringing every time she was around. And it took me almost half the book to like Reagan. But Jason! Oh sweet Jason. The boy was running an uphill battle and won!! And the slow burn was SO WORTH THE WAIT!!! Muy Caliente!! This book is definitely a page turner and well worth the read. Although this can be read as a stand alone it is part of a bigger world and I MUST now read the ones that came before and any that come after. I'm hooked!!.

I've been waiting for this story since I read For Crying Out Loud, and let me tell you, it was worth the wait.
Jo has a way of weaving real life issues with hilarious moments and spicy scenes to create an incredible story that will have you laughing hysterically one minute and tears popping into your eyes the next.
I adore the fire between Rey and Jason. They have a spark that everyone around them can see and they both can feel, even if Rey would like to deny it at first. And when they finally let that spark grow it becomes a raging hot fire. Whew.
Though they have their issues to work through, be it insecurities or trust, they are a pair absolutely fated to be together.
If you love a hot, sweet, funny, and heartfelt romance, this book (and this whole series!) is for you!!

If you like the fake relationship/ enemies to lovers reads, then this one is for you. You get witty banter and all the feels with Jase and Rey's story. Jason is a swoony hero that will make you melt and Reagan is a strong willed heroine. It's definitely an emotional rollercoaster ride with plenty of angst. I also loved seeing all the side characters we already love. I can't wait for more in this series. 4 1/2 stars from me.

I love a romcom and this story did not disappoint. I’ve read all of J. Preston’s books and this is def my favorite. Reagan and Jason had a bit of the emeries to lovers and a lot of the fake relationship which are two of my go - to tropes. The side characters and families made the book even better. Jason character was my favorite. His past struggles and his ability to overcome them was done very well. This book was the perfect combination of funny, steamy, heartfelt, and drama. If you love a romcom this should be a must read.

First of all, the Friends reference!! "Brad, shouldn't you be going? You know, to ensure that there’s no problem with the left phalange?” Brad looks at me confused. “Excuse me?” “Left phalange? The left phalange on the plane?” -- “There’s no phalange on the plane…” I gasp and grasp Rey’s hand. “Did you hear that? There’s no phalange on the plane! We’re not getting on!”

This book had me laughing so much, i loved it! It was my first read of J. Preston's and I am definitely reading the others in the series. Fake dating is quickly becoming one of my favourite tropes. Everything about this book was amazing: the nicknames, the tension, the storyline, the references to movies/books, the spice, so good! Rey and Jason's enemies to lovers relationship was the cherry on top.

"They are talking about a loaf of bread they found in Jason’s house when they started college. An old loaf of bread that must have been there for at least ten years as the house stood empty. A loaf that still looked fresh and plump and ready for eating years after they first discovered it. Jase named it Edward, like the vampire, since no one knew how long it’s been there or how old it was."

This quote was one of my favourites, only because me and my best friend have a running private joke involving a loaf of bread and a fall down the stairs. Reading this made my laugh so much!

I would highly recommend this book, not only is it funny but it had drama and lots of it! It also had a rollercoaster of a storyline involving a heart condition and life-saving surgery, as well as references to addiction after a sports injury. I can not explain how much I loved this book!

The third and final installment in the False Start Series, and they just keep getting better and better! I loved Aiden, and I didn’t think anyone would beat Carter. But Jason?! Holy hotness! You bet I 100% claimed that man! He and Reagan don’t start off in the greatest way. In fact they hate each other. Or so they let everyone believe. Truth is, Jason as always wanted Rey and just didn’t know what to do since she seemed to hate him so much. When all is out in the open, turns out they really have no reason to hate each other and that’s when sparks really fly. Fake dating suddenly turns very real and very satisfying. I was heartbroken when I found out about Rey and all that she’d been through, but she finally comes into her own and I’m so glad that Jason was there to stand by her. I’m really kinda sad that this series is over because I just love these characters so much. I think I’ll be doing a re-read very soon!

I am so happy that I found this little jem. This is a second chance romcom and I was hooked from page one. When Reagan and Jason meet for the first time, he is not ready to act on their mutual attraction as he has to face his demons first. Fast forward seven years later and at the wedding of his best friend and Reagan's brother these two are forced to join forces against a meddling handsy aunt... Will they take advantage this new opportunity? This time Reagan holds all the cards as she needs to decide what the future holds for them...
I laughed, I shed a tear or two and I really enjoyed this book.

It all began in an elevator...
With a mattress and a kiss Reagan and Jason's story begins. I can't begin to explain how much I loved both characters and this beautifully written book, but the whole point is to give you my opinion so here we go. Having read the previous book in this series I was already a fan of her writing. An enemies to lovers while fake dating was a ride between these two that we all weren't expecting but glad to watch unfold. Attraction to misunderstanding brings these two years apart and struggling to figure their way forward. It's hot and funny with Reagan's aunt bringing again a huge dose of purely hilarious and inappropriate spice just like she has before with her meddling matchmaker ways. You can't help but love her. There's also a hit of the unexpected and upsetting to give even more backstory that results in a rollercoaster of feelings to be had finishing their story. Can't wait for more!!!

This book is irritating the shit out of me, I can't force myself any further. DNF at 58%. I don't even want to write a review because I want to forget this book as fast as possible, so here are my raw reading notes:

- The fmc talks, and I want to punch her like she is so irritating
- I'm tired of them mentioning the vibrator especially by name
- the aunt is actually sexually harassing the MMC to the extreme and its getting played off as funny but it's really not
- if the author has to state "I want her for more than the physical," then they're bad at their jobs - show me
- really... really??? He overcomes (redacted) because he's attracted to a girl he doesn't know
- their sex scene wasn't bad but very cheesy and the physical heart pain from feeling emotion was ridiculous. Also, the bath part in general was stupid. Just no
The aunt is actually a criminal. Like she sexually harassing Jason beyond anything, she also drugged/pot up a bunch of unsuspecting people the day they brought a new friend home

There were parts of this book that absolutely just reeled me in, and made it practically impossible to put down. I loved the plot, and how we found certain things out about the MC’s that just tugged at your heartstrings.

I would say this is the most angsty out’ve the trilogy, which is why it was probably hard to put down and stop thinking about it. It was still absolutely hilarious, and super sexy!! If the first two books had been as good as this one, I think I’d be raving about this series non-stop.

If you want a light-hearted romcom, this series is perfect for that. While it does lightly dust over some heavier topics, there isn’t a main focus on them. If inter-connected standalones are your thing (like Ana Huang) then this would be perfect for you! 🫶🏻

I enjoyed Jason and Reagan’s fake relationship with a side of enemies to lovers. Reagan’s brother’s best friend is Jason. Reagan and Jason shared one kiss 7 years ago and she has hated Jason ever since because of what she believed happened after the kiss. Reagan has made an effort to avoid Jason as much as possible but now Reagan’s brother is having a destination wedding and Jason and Reagan agree to be in a fake relationship for the week long extravaganza. While there, fate and meddling keep throwing them together and blurring the lines of the fake part of the relationship. The book has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, steam, strong families, good friends, laughter, and love. The book was fairly well written and included three dimensional main characters, and a engaging story line. I was a bigger fan of Jason than I was of Reagan, she seemed a bit immature to me. There were a few believability issues in the book as well. The first 40% of the book was very engaging, then it dragged in the middle without much story advancement which interrupted the flow of the story, and then the last 20% was engaging again. Therefore, it’s a 3.5 star read for me. I willingly reviewed an early copy of this book.

Jason and Reagan's Fake Date . . .

Two people need a solution to a problem; but can they stand being with each other in a fake date situation for a week? Well, maybe. Desperate times and all that . . .

Reagan Kennedy’s great aunt sees herself as a matchmaker. If Reagan attends her brother’s wedding without a date, her aunt will bring in another orthodontist for her. All the other times were total boredom, and she is not willing to spend a week like that.

So Reagan turns to Jason Cowley for help. He has always had a crush on her, so he will gladly accept a fake relationship. However, they are a little too convincing. The family is thrilled and they are put into a honeymoon cottage together! And being in such close proximity now, Reagan is thinking she had misjudged him and he’s not so bad after all.

As their fake relationship begins to heat up with actual feelings for each other, is it time to forget the long ago misunderstanding and accept what their hearts are trying to tell them?

Reagan Kennedy's brother Carter is getting married (mind you, their father is Wilson...everyone is very presidential) and Jason is her fake date to the wedding. She hates Jason with a passion after an ill-fated kiss seven years ago but he's better than whatever Aunt Bertie has planned for her, so off they go to spend some time on a tropical island together. It turns out that some of the things she hated Jason for weren't true after all. For Jason, the kiss was a life-changing event, and he's the farthest thing from hating her. But Rey is living on borrowed time, after a cardiac event.

I loved this. It's sweet, funny, romantic, the editing is flawless, and Jason says some pretty swooney things.

Series status: It's the third book in a series that I haven't read. There are some references to the previous stories but not too detailed to spoil it all.

Steam level: Lots of moaning, Jason knows what he's doing.

Do you have a hard time picking a favourite trope? I do! But fear not! This book has a few, such as a fake relationship, best friend's little sister (with a twist 🤫), enemies to lovers and romantic set up by family and friends!

I've been with the False Starts series since For Crying Out Loud, through For What it's Worth and I love getting to reacquaint myself with all the amazing characters in For Heaven's Sake.

Carter and Sydney are getting married and the whole gang are reuniting for a romantic getaway wedding. In an attempt for Jason to avoid Aunt Bertie's wandering hands, Reagan is persuaded to help out by faking a relationship with him.

Despite her intention to avoid him as much as possible, that plan is quickly thwarted by her meddling friends and family. As time goes on she might even have to admit he's not that bad, maybe even likeable.

As always when this group of characters are together lots of hilarious drama ensues. The banter level is of the scales and the spice you ask? I finished the book a few days ago and I'm STILL fanning myself! 🥴🥵

Two of my favourite romance tropes of all time are the enemies-to-lovers and fake dating, and this book from J. Preston really delivered on both. The author combined everything I love from each of those tropes separately into one book that hooked me in really fast. I found myself wanting to return to reading it almost immediately after I put it down, grabbing any moment I could amidst a busy day of adulting. In fact, even though I was busy with errands and responsibilities, I finished this book in two days. It had a good mixture of sweet, steamy, and funny, so if that’s what you like in a book, I’d say grab this one up. My only complaint was that I found a lot of things happened at the end in a manner that felt a tad rushed, so it got a little hard to keep up. But overall, I was not disappointed in the least with my first read from this author.

Reagan hates Jason - he's always been in love with her. She's off limits, but they both need a fake date to her brother's destination wedding. Misunderstandings and secrets have kept them apart for years, and almost prevent their fledgling relationship. This is a wonderful followup to For What It's Worth. Jason and Reagan have some interesting adventures along their way to love. Aunt Berta is as crazy and inappropriate as ever. The chapter titles are hilarious, but what I love most is the nicknames they have for each other. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
