What would you do if your dead sister sent you postcards?
I've struggled to get my life back on track after a lifetime of despair, addiction, and loss. I finally have it all. A bustling business, a home, my health, and time with my beloved daughter Sophie.
But that tenuous balance is tipped when my twin Jane's postcard arrives in the mail. My family thinks she's dead. They want to put it all behind them. But how can I agree when the evidence is right in front of me?
When my nagging little sister provokes my rebellious teenager to run away, I am forced to confront the past I've wanted to bury for decades. I have to keep myself on the straight and narrow or I could easily relapse and loose it all. The last thing I want is to return to the creepy old mansion where my father died or to see my ruthless mother ravaged by Alzheimer's.
My vindictive ex-husband can no longer handle Sophie. So I'll find the strength to bring her home somehow. Even if it means returning to the small coastal village where I grew up.
Going back to my home town brings up more than I bargained for. Long buried secrets, lies, and hidden truths taunt me from every side.
Can I solve this mystery while haunted by ghosts from the past and the very present craving for my addiction? Are the postcards coming from my long lost sister, or has it really been me all along?
Just finished this wonderful book. This story follows Alice through a short time span in her life. We see all the ups and downs of a single mother who doesn’t have a great relationship with either her ex-husband (who is a total yutz, in my opinion) or her teenage daughter, and if you have children, we have all been down that dark road. We find her trying to struggle through her past addictions as she tries to keep her head above water and resume a somewhat normal life. All this while trying to reconcile to her feelings toward her family which is a bizarre situation to say the least. Everyone in her family wants to declare her twin sister dead since she has been missing for over 20 years, but Alice seems to be able to tune in to that twin connection and hold on to the idea that she is alive somewhere. As I was reading this story, I found myself crossing the fence to believing Alice is right about her sister and then thinking that she is sending clues to herself. I never saw the ending coming and loved every minute of it. This would make a great television movie! Can’t wait to read more from this author.
This tense mystery is totally engrossing with a shock ending that blew me away! Alice’s twin disappeared 25 years ago and while her family believes she is deceased Alice doesn’t feel it (twin sensing?) As Alice, a recovering drug and alcohol addict, struggles with her hateful family who want her to declare her sister dead for inheritance purposes, Alice wrestles and spirals to maintain her sanity. Simply the story around the challenges of maintaining her sobriety I found to be eye opening of how difficult it can be to stay sober. There are some pretty difficult and painful dysfunctional family interactions which play out however there really is a light at the end of the tunnel. Do not read this before bed as if you do and you complete it you won’t be able to go to sleep!
I opened this book and didn’t stop reading. Unreliable narrator plagued with blackouts, addiction and a genuine hate for her family, Alice leads us down a path filled with positive mantras and a clear dark voice of negativity.
At first I thought this was a “My Sweet Audrina” type story in which her twin sister Jane existed only in Alice’s mind due to extreme trauma, but there are photos of Jane’s existence, so not that. (Sorry for the spoiler of that old VC Andrews book)
Regardless of her unstable mind, Alice is relentless in demanding her family not declare Jane dead. It is a great ride.
I did feel the ending was a tiny bit rushed if only for the fact that I did not want this book to end.
Have You Seen Jane by Annabelle Fogerty is a new author and book to me. This is a well written highly emotional story. Ms. Fogerty writes a story about a single mother’s struggle with her addictions and mental illness. She does a very well job of handling these subjects with care and kindness. She also adds lies, secrets and a lot of family drama to hold your attention. The characters are very real with a lot of feelings. This is a very good page turner from the beginning to that unforeseeable ending. I highly recommend this intriguing book and thank Annabelle Fogerty for the opportunity to read and review such an intriguing book! #haveyouseenjane #annabellefogerty #arc
I enjoyed it. This is a well written story dealing with addiction and mental illness that the author handled with grace and empathy. The characters are believable and the plot is original. When I wasn't reading, I was thinking about it. This story will stay with you long after you finish reading it. I would definitely recommend it. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
This is a well written psychological thriller with strong characters and an intriguing storyline. It's the story of Alice who struggles with addiction, mental illness and relationships. The author brings drama with secrets and lies along with a ton of emotions, throws in the surprising twist and delivers a fantastic story. Loved it!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Have You Seen Jane is an amazing mystery written by Annabelle Fogerty. The characters are amazing for telling this story. Within this story you will find many secrets that will keep you turning the pages. The twins involved in this story really show how much of a bond they can have. When Jane went missing over 25 years earlier her twin won't let go of the feeling she is still alive. The lengths that she takes to figure out this mystery really makes for a great read. Suspicious about why her mother married the man she did only heightens the mystery. When everything is brought to light it is truly a jaw dropping moment.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.
If you like family secrets, plot twists, mother-daughter conflicts, characters seemingly going crazy, and law enforcement that just won’t listen, then this is the book for you!
This is the first of Annabelle Fogerty’s work that I have read. She writes in her Afterword that, with this book, she has finally found her voice. I am so glad. After you read Have You Seen Jane, you will be, too.
This book was fabulous it had me at the edge of my seat. Alice who’s twin was missing how can a twin give up on their other half well not this time Alice went all the way in not giving up . Something sinister has occurred in that house she grew up in. Oh my world the twist in this book had me bug eyed. I definitely recommend this book!
This was a fast paced story about a single mothers struggle with addiction and family. Alice is also struggling with the disappearance of her sister Jane 25 years ago. After a trip back to her family home...things aren't as they appear. I enjoyed this book and thank the author for an ARC.
I found this one interesting and it did keep me guessing. The story gave me bits and pieces throughout to where I had suspicions but still didn’t know if I was right until the end. I can’t wait to read more from Annabelle.
I got this book as an ARC and I had it tucked away and just found it. I am sooo glad I found it! I've never read anything by this author but that's not the case anymore! Such a good book and the end was great!
This read was very different and could and would have been a five star if the unnecessary bad language was left out. It added nothing to great psychological thriller.
Have You Seen Jane by Annabelle Fogerty was a interesting page turner. It was about Alice and her sister Jane who disappeared 20 years ago. Alice also has a daughter who she is trying to form a mother daughter relationship with. It was a good read with lot of surprise’s and plenty of drama to keep you entertained from beginning to end. I received a arc copy of this book for my honest review.
