When the guy who ruined her first kiss turns into a hottie... Does she risk giving him a second chance?

Jenny Cowley has moved fifteen times in her nineteen years, never even lasting a year in any one place. Worse, she's never had a real kiss, not counting the gross, slobbery mess bestowed on her at age thirteen by her brother's friend.

Cue up move sixteen and hopefully the last one. Jenny's back in her hometown, living with her brother and some friend of his while attending university. Fine. Whatever.Except it's so not fine, when she arrives with all her worldly belongings jammed in her suitcase and comes face to face with her brother's long-lost childhood friend, Mr. Slobbermouth himself, who not only stole her first kiss but turned her off the idea of kissing ever since.

Jenny is torn between the unpleasant memory of a gangly, awkward boy and the pulse-racing sight of a now broad shouldered, brown haired God with washboard abs.

This semester will be one wild ride!

I received an ARC copy for the purposes of reviewing this book. It will be available on Kindle Oct. 01, 2021.

Warning! Do not eat or drink anything while reading this book! There are parts in the book that I may have spit my drink everywhere. Luckily it was water and an easy clean up and not a margarita so I didn’t commit alcohol abuse!

This is a very cute story about two people that meet when they’re 14 but don’t start seeing each other until they’re older.

Jenny and Aiden meet in high school where Aiden falls in love with her and decides to kiss her one day. She’s instantly repulsed, punches him, and runs away because because the kiss is horrible, so he gets back at her by spreading rumors saying that she is a bad kisser. Luckily she moves a lot because her dad is in the military and leaves a few months later.

Fast forward five years when she moves back to the states and they’re insta-roomies because he lives with her brother.

There are funny parts, there are steamy parts, and there are emotional parts. The book is very well balanced between all of it. But like I said above, I wouldn’t read while drinking anything because when the funny does pop up it is super funny.

The book is easy to follow and I definitely enjoyed reading it. I love when the authors put the characters names before their POVs like she did. Makes it so much easier to follow! The characters do seem to ramble a bit, but I am quite sure that is because of the age of the characters.

My favorite character is Carter. He can be my BFF too! I love his personality and I really hope to see more of him in the future!

I loved this book! The characters and the banter. The way it takes you to the beginning. The setbacks and how they're overcome. The chemistry is hot in this slow burn romance. It is well written and has great fluidity. Trust me, you want to read this book and the beautiful story weaved by the great author J. Preston.

If your looking for a book that will make you laugh this is the one for you!
Jenny is a girl traumatized but a bad first kiss that haunted her for years. Finally she’s getting a fresh start at college only to run into the bad kisser himself Aiden. Sparks fly as Aiden attempts to get into Jenny’s good graces enough for a second chance with the girl he never been able to stop thinking about.
Not only are Jenny and Aiden fun easy to relate to characters but the entire cast of friends will have you in stitches. Can’t wait for the next one from Preston.

Such good fun

I hate the train journey from the south coast into London but I was able to forget about it today. Actually, I could’ve done with the journey being a few minutes longer each way.

It’s very easy to get lost in Aiden and Jenny’s world of ongoing battle and recreational rudeness. He needs the big, posh stick removed from his arse and she needs to learn that the past doesn’t have to repeat itself relentlessly.

Many a chuckle and a pleasing number of laugh out loud lines to be enjoyed… and pretty scorching in those moments when things are actually going well ;) this is nicely paced and the author has a fiendish sense of humour.

Authors notes, not everyone reads them but I'm glad I do because sometimes that's where the Spotify playlists hide and I freaking love when an author has a playlist to go with their book. Instant bonus points in my head!

This book was funny, sweet, emotional, awkward and everything you want from a coming of age romcom.
A seriously good shot of serotonin to the old system whilst reading about Jenny and Aiden.

I enjoyed every up and down with them,I died inside a little with the cringe that comes at that age and I cried laughing at some parts. I mean anyone could mistake a piece of seaweed for a maneating shark whilst freezing in the ocean, right?

The characters were clever and witty. Never missing as opertunity to weasel their way into my heart and I cannot wait for Carter's story. I need it!

I however do need some closure on Edward. Give a girl some deets or in on the bet atleast.

Fun and sweet characters. super cute ending that is swoon worthy. I did at times find some of the language immature but it didn't detract from the story.

Read it as an ARC. For Crying Out Loud by @authorjpreston is the story of Aiden Vaugh and Jenny Cowley. They met as teenagers (he’s pining for her so hard is borderline stalkish 😅) and as any 14 year old who finds himself in love with his best friend’s sister he decides he needs her to know his feelings before she moves away, except things don’t go as planned and he ends up messing up their first kiss. Fast forward six years later and they meet again in college. Aiden is determined this time to make things right but of course nothing ever is as easy as it seems and there’s insecurities, doubts, tears, and heartbreaks. Their love story is a true rollercoaster (all the feels! 😍) that ends with a very HEA (swoon! ❤️) I won’t give away the entire plot but I’ll say that I absolutely LOVED this book, I laughed so hard at times that I thought I was going to wake up my kids at night 😅 Of course Aide and Jenny have a fantastic group of friends, their dynamics feel real. There’s plenty of banter, laughs and innuendos 😜 I praise Jo for creating such an amazing book, it’s never easy to start something new but Jo did an outstanding job with her debut novel and I can’t wait to read more! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This book has it all For Crying Out Loud!! (haha!)
Well written with lovable characters. Sweet moments and all the feels of young love.
He's British and swoony yet a cute, funny, guy that wants her love so very badly.
She's innocent and sweet with a good left hook to make sure all these guys stay in line! Lets not forget to mention her hoTT wonderful brother named Jason who I can't wait to read about in future novels! The insufferable friend Carter god's gift to the world has a heart of gold, face & body of a god and disposition of an adorable puppy- always up to mischief!
Our main characters meet in the UK as teens but all are America for college, living life and having fun.

Just so very entertaining and a blast of fresh air from heavier tales.
Makes you smile. Makes you laugh.

Each chapter starts with insightful hilarious golden quotes from each character. So not only do our lovers share awesome wisdom, their friends do too! Those snippets of 'sage' outrageous wisdom gave me a smile each and every time.

Can't wait for the second book in the series.

I've been on a super dark streak lately and this book came like a breath of fresh air.

It is cute, funny, well-written, and has some super lovable characters that I miss already.

I can't wait for the second book in the series, since I already know the MC is a star and will not disappoint.

Also, bonus point for the chapter headers, which are absolute gold, genius, I screenshot half of them, and they had me giggling the whole time. I will never look at lemonade, lemons, and life the same way.

#SmutCom at it's best!

How can you not love a book with a sexy cast of characters that have insecurities like real people, that make mistakes and are figuring it out one step at a time? And having a sexy British hunk MC (who makes his fair share of mistakes) doesn't hurt either! 😉

And who doesn't love the handsome big brother character being felt up by an old Auntie of his friends at the Thanksgiving dinner table?!?

With chapter intros that are as off the wall as I am, it's tough not to be ensnared and become attached to the characters. A few of my favorites are:
"I'm not half as crazy as I look. I'm twice as crazy."

"If it has tires or testicles, it's gonna give you trouble."

"Sometimes I write 'drink coffee' on my to-do list just to feel like I've accomplished something."

And my personal favorite:

"They should announce the sequel to Groundhog Day and then just re-release the original."

If you're looking for a cute, real life type of rom-com, this is it. I can't wait for the sequel!

Thank you to the author, J. Preston for this advanced readers copy. The views expressed are my own.

I read this as a BETA and I can’t freaking wait for you all to read it! Aiden and Jenny’s story is not an easy one. They go through a lot and misunderstandings run rampant, but I love that their story is unique. You will not be disappointed in this book. 6 years is a long time to wait to deal with the ramifications of your first kiss. Follow Aiden and Jenny’s story into love.

I really liked this book. It was the usual twist and turns of a romance novel, but it never got boring and I absolutely loved the characters. I need a Carter Kennedy in my life! I think the story got tied up a bit quickly at the end, but I'm really looking forward to reading the next book and reacquaint myself with these awesome characters once more.
I hope this will be made into an audiobook at some time too!

Rollercoaster is right

This was a cute story with a lot of back and forth. I really enjoyed the different point of views. It helped keeping the characters sympathetic. But only read if you're a fan of misunderstandings eventually leading them to each other.

⭐1.5/5⭐
For Crying Out Loud is RIGHT! The .5 stars is generous because it's not like the book was terribly written. It does have good banter and a good set of characters.
Somehow 'Life of Pi' was written as 'Life of Pie' on the last page of the book which I painstakingly stared at for awhile... because how, just HOW?!
This book did not to be just over 400 pages, I honestly think it could've gotten away with 250 pages. A portion of the plot gets copied and pasted from the start of the book somewhere in the middle and it's not til the end and the ending is where it feels like there's actually something at stake.
It's a classic "will they won't they" scenario and I felt a lot of the conflicts the characters went through didn't feel finished and weren't rounded out. Womp womp.
I actually enjoyed the book when I first started, I was with it but now I can't wait to be without it.
The main reason I give this story one star is because the fact that the term of endearment for Jenny was "Kitten" had me digging a hole 6ft deep so I could crawl in and die. That was actually insufferable to read time and time again. If I ever come across another book that uses "Kitten" as a pet name I will immediately DNF. Thank you and goodnight.

This was such a fun story! I literally loved everything about this book! Each of the characters burrowed their way into my heart and that is where they will stay forever more!

There were times I wanted to shake Aiden and slap him upside the head and tell him to get his head from out of his ass, but the character growth he showed just melted my heart in the end and I was rooting for him and Jenny from the get go!

Jenny, my girl, she was SO sassy, honestly her inner dialogue was just everything!

This story made me laugh, made me cry, made me cringe (because some of the things these characters did was SO relatable!) And then made me laugh some more.

Jo has written this flawlessly and I can't wait to read the books for the rest of these characters! 😍

Cute Story . . .

Jenny Cowley knew Aiden from high school. But Aiden’s talents at the time were not displayed through his slobbery kissing at the age of 13. His kiss was so cringe-worthy that Jenny swore off smooching for a long time. But she had embarrassed him by her extreme response, so he spread nasty rumors about her kisses. Since her family moved often, with her dad in the military, she survived the experience.

Still remembering that awkward situation from high school when she runs into Aiden again at college, the gorgeous guy he turned into now is certainly drool-worthy (in a good way, of course). And he wants a chance to show her how he has improved since then. Will she give him his chance? Will it be worth the wait?

This book was really fun, and probably brought back memories to many of us of perhaps a similar experience. Will Aiden get his opportunity to impress the girl he never stopped thinking of? Or is she still not over her teenage trauma?

Funny sweet read

Jenny’s first kiss was with Aiden. She was 13, and she punched him. Now, 6 years later, and she still, hasn’t gotten over it. Aiden remembers it too. But for different reasons

This is a hilarious story of a first kiss gone wrong. Turned off dating all together after a traumatic first kiss, Jenny thinks she’s getting a fresh start in college, until she finds out her roommate is none other than the bad kisser himself.

The characters are relatable, and their story is hilarious. Throw in their friend Carter, and you’re bound to laugh until you cry.

An epic (emotional) rollercoaster

I apologize if this review makes no sense, but you see, I've just been on a wild roller coaster ride. Aiden and Jenny's story is an emotional journey filled with frustration, confusion, tension, heartache, uncertainty, and epic wonderful love. If you like romances filled with fun, irreverent characters, lots of twists and turns, and a beautiful against-all-odds love, you need to read this story RIGHT NOW. You won't regret it. I promise.

Dnf at 25%

Characters:
Jenny is overly “quirky” to the point where it’s just weird. She named her fists?? Bonnie and Clyde?? Really?? And the nicknames she calls people?? I can’t.

Apparently she’s also a walking train wreck and has a disgusting habit of spewing food all over the place.

She’s not endearing. She’s fucking weird.

Plot:
I couldn’t do it. It was just so incredibly stupid. It pained me to read the 25% that I actually did get through.

The weird plot of Carter being into her one second, and then within hours of them meeting they decide they’re platonic bffs is just so weird. And then he acts like her gay best friend, immediately is able to notice subtle changes in her body language, and watches / cries along in The Notebook. No 20 year old guy could / would ever. Everything is weird and over the top and forced.

Jenny brings Aiden a bowl of strawberries and he said he hadn’t had any in 6 years because they reminded him of her. First of all, why? That was never explained previously. And secondly, he was 14 fucking years old when they met. You’re telling me a 14 year old had the emotional capacity to cut out a common food item just because it made them reminiscent??

The first day of school some girl who is apparently wearing a clubbing outfit to class runs into Jenny and then starts a cat fight with her and her new friend. For no reason at all. No one in college would be like that. So childish and over the top. I can’t read this book anymore it’s too cringy.

In her first class, in which she shows up wearing a Rolling Stones T-shirt, apparently everyone else is a guy in glasses and a sweater vest. They all stare and judge her for being “cool” and assume she is, therefore, stupid. IN WHAT WORLD?!? Did this author ever go to college?!?

Writing:
So. Fucking. Bad.

Tropes:
Roommate, brother’s best friend

I beta read this book and it was amazing. I loved Jenny and Aiden’s story. Jenny’s first kiss was ruined by the man himself. Now several years later, Jenny moves in with her brother and his roommate, Aiden. The slow burn in this book was perfect and the chemistry between the two characters was natural. We got to watch them grow together and it was amazing.

Teenager angst

If you like teenager angst-y , drama then this is for you. When I realized the main characters were 19 and 20 year olds, I almost stopped reading. Now I wish I had.

The entire story was immature drama after drama after drama. I kept going hoping it would get better. It does not. I’m annoyed with myself for scrolling through as much as a did.
