Haven Bay #7

Let Me Love You

Rate this book
She’s broken-hearted. He’s just broken. When they become temporary neighbors, will they be able to heal together?

Mikayla Talbot has been in love with her boss for years, but when she humiliates herself in front of him—and his brand new fiancé—she flees to Haven Bay to lick her wounds.

When Mikayla is asked to check on her new neighbor, she has no idea he’s Anderson Gray, former Hollywood Heartthrob—nor does she particularly care. He’s grumpy, standoffish, and clearly needs a friend as badly as she does, but he seems determined to push her away.

She never expects the feelings that grow between them or how Gray makes her rethink everything. But her confidence has been knocked, and he doesn’t seem to believe he has anything to offer. Can these two cautious hearts risk it all for love?

How heartfelt and beautiful this story is! Mikayla and Gray's story is filled with so many feels. Right from the start, I knew these two have a wonderful connection that later develop and grow into something beautiful. I loved what they are to each other. They really are each other's support system. Their story is really a beautiful one.

We first met Anderson Gray in Haven Bay book 6, " Begin Again With You". He was such an interesting character that I was hoping he would get his own happily ever after. Alexa Rivers did not disappoint! Gray is back and grumpier than ever - only this time, we not only learn why but also watch as he overcomes his fears with the help of a good woman - namely Mikayla Talbot.
I thought book 6 was my favorite in the Haven Bay series, but I think "Let Me Love You" may have just snuck into that place! This story has everything you could want in a romance book: both the main characters are written really well, the setting of small town Haven Bay is just what you want in a romance story (town square, ice ream parlor, local bar, beach, etc.) and the secondary characters, both new and ones from past books, help round out the perfect recipe for a wonderful story.
When you read this story, don't think of Gray as being agoraphobic. By definition, that is someone with an irrational fear of being in public and Gray's fear is very rational. Gray went through a traumatic event during his time in Holloywood. The results have left him weary and suspicious of people and life in general. Trust is extremely difficult for him so he finds it safer all around to stay at home and alone. Yet, as the saying goes, all it takes is the love of a good woman to change you. (That, and weekly therapy sessions! ) Enter Mikayla Talbot. In Haven Bay to mend a broken heart, she meets grumpy Gray who is just the man to heal her heart and give her the life she didn't think she could have.
Alexa Rivers wrote these two characters beautifully. There was just the right amount of angst to make it interesting and to make you want to keep reading until the issues at hand are resolved so you can finally put the book down!I would definitely recommend this book.
I received and ARC for an honest review.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

While this is a part of a series and some of the prior characters make appearances, you don't have to read them to fully understand and enjoy this book.

This story was such a charming one. I adored Anderson Gray. He was the perfectly tortured male protagonist. His story was so heartbreaking and I just wanted to give this fictional character a hug. Mykayla Talbot was the perfect foil for him. I loved her encouraging and understanding nature. She was exceptional.

Mykayla goes to Haven Bay for a getaway. She had humiliated herself to her boss and she needed to get far from him. She takes her much accrued vacation time and takes her boss's fiancee up on a cottage. Fortunately her sister lives in Haven Bay so she can get some time with her sibling. Mykayla isn't used to down time and she goes over to meet her new neighbor. Mykayla is expecting an elderly gentleman but the handsome brut (Gray) that answers the door.

The scenes between the two are very touching. I adored how they interacted and helped each other through their issues.

This is told in a dual POV format. That is my preferred format as I can understand and connect to the characters better by seeing their thoughts.

This is a sexy story so a word of warning. If you aren't into that, I would personally just skip over as the story is exceptional and shouldn't be missed.

This is the first book I've read in this series but now I have to go back and get all other books in the series and get caught up. You can totally read this book as a standalone but it was so good, I need to know the rest of the stories!

This book is the story of Gray and Mikayla. At the beginning of the story, Mikayla has a highly embarrassing encounter with her boss. She takes some time off to regain her bearings and get over the embarrassment. She goes to Haven Bay, where her sister is, for some quiet time to think. On her first day there, she meets her reclusive neighbor, but he is rude to her. Mikayla is undaunted, though, and brings him breakfast the next day. Slowly, Mikayla breaks down all of Gray's walls and finds out why it is that he doesn't leave the house. He helps her overcome her embarrassment about the situation with her boss and helps her to see that he has been using her for a long time. Mikayla helps Gray with his agoraphobia and shows him that just because he has mental illness (with good reason) doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with him as a person. Their love story is a slow burn but it is just so beautiful how the two of them come to accept each other. Mikayla may describe herself as a bulldozer, but with Gray she was just the right combination of pushing and back off. When they first discover that they feel the same way about each other, it's just like....ahhhhhh, finally!

This was the first I've read from this new to me author and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment reading this wonderful story.
My heart hurt for Mikayla with the situation with her boss in the beginning of the book, but if not for that she wouldn't have run away to Haven Bay and found the opportunity to really find herself, the balance she so sorely needed in her life, friends of her own, new opportunities and the most delicious man, living right next door.
Anderson Gray is a hot mess. Fleeing his Hollywood life after a tragic event, he's been living (and I use that term loosely) with major anxiety issues keeping him inside, solitary and really just existing. Little did he know the woman who just pulled up to the house next door would bulldoze her way into his life and change both of theirs forever.
This is a gorgeously written, slow burn romance that will have you invested in the lives of Mikayla and Gray as they tackle the issues holding them back in their own lives having in the other an incentive to be better and build a worthy life together.
There's a whole bunch of interesting characters around them in this small town in New Zealand. I realise this is the last in this series, but consider me converted, I'll definitely be going back to catch up on the rest of the Haven Bay books while waiting for the Destiny Falls series to start.

This is book seven in The Haven Bay series and it is Mikayla and Gray's story and it is definitely a must read. When Mikayla shows herself up in front of the man that she was in love with and his fiance she decides that she needs to go away and lick her wounds in private and so she goes to stay in Haven Bay so that she can decide what to do next in her life. Gray used to be a Hollywood A Lister but after a traumatic experience that pulled his life apart he now has trouble just getting through the day in Haven Bay and keeping to himself and away from anyone and everything. When Mikayla and Gray meet neither are in a good place and trust is a big issue but will they be able to help each other move forward in there lives and take a chance on each other. I really enjoyed reading this book as it had great characters and a storyline that pulled you in and kept your attention and even though there were some very difficult issues they were written with so much care and compassion that I couldn't put it down as I wanted to see what would happen next and what the outcome will be for them and I can't wait to read more book's by Alexa Rivers in the future.

A Love Worth Fighting For -
Mikayla had lived in a love stupor for years, but taking a break away from the toxic environment, helped her realise she needed to strive for the life she truly deserved. Gray on the other hand had lived a reclusive life filled with blame, which put a restraint on his daily life, but he realised he wanted more out of life, with the help of Mikayla and his other friends. Their journey to happiness wasn’t smooth, but the work and effort they both put into making it work, was just wonderful to experience.

I really thought this story would follow the plot-lines similar to the previous Haven Bay books, based around ‘The Sanctuary’, but this story took a left turn at the beginning and had me on one heck of a ride, that ended up blowing my mind to smithereens. Before you start reading this book, I will suggest you ensure you will not be disturbed, because once you start, there is no way you will want to stop. It was definitely worth my time reading it and the five stars I awarded it. I am really looking forward to reading the ‘Destiny Falls’ series.

Finding Themselves Again . . .

Two people with their own deep issues will meet up in a healing and affirming situation. Can they find a way to use their own strengths to make things better for the other?

Mikayla Talbot humiliated herself in a devastating way in front of her boss, whom she has loved secretly for years. She knows she has to move on from this obsession and heads to the beachside town of Haven Bay to get her head on straight.

Anderson Gray left Hollywood behind after a traumatic event in his life. He drags through day-by-day but no joy or comfort in his life. He is not ready for the new bossy neighbor who moves in next door for a temporary stay. But he intrigues her and she decides to force him out of his self-imposed shell, even if it’s kicking and screaming all the way.

Gray thinks he is too lost in his own misery to offer her anything. Stripped of her self-confidence, Mikayla doesn’t want to open up to a relationship either when she is still reeling over what just happened to her. But will they start to trust and put the other first, which is what might take them to the beginnings of love?

Mikayla accidentally confesses her love for her boss when she mistakes his intentions, now she has taken a leave of absence to go see her sister in Haven Bay. She has been asked to check on her next-door neighbor as he is a bit of a recluse. Mikayla is under the impression that her neighbor is elderly but imagine her surprise when he turns out to be only a few years older than her.
Gray has been hiding out in Haven Bay for several years much to the detriment of his agent. Gray has very few people that he trusts, but he can't help being intrigued by Mikayla especially as she doesn't seem to take 'no' for an answer.
The more time Mikayla spends with Gray the more she begins to realize just what all ails him and taking her cues from him she begins to try to help and protect him. The more time Gray spends with Mikayla the more he becomes drawn to her, but he isn't sure that she will ever be happy with what little he can offer. With the help of mutual friends, a young boy looking for help and a lot of understanding these two just might find their happy ending.

Lovely story
Grey, confining himself to his home, shuns people, cleans when anxious. Now a romcom script writer, he has chosen a life away from being a Hollywood star after his home was set on fire by a crazed fan and his housekeeper died. Suffers from extreme anxiety. Now living in the other side of the world, afraid and practically a hermit
Mikayla, visiting the area to recover from the extreme embarrassment of thinking her boss was proposing to her, when he was seeking her opinion on the ring he was intending to propose to his girlfriend. Having been in love with Price for years she blurted out her feelings and accepted his non proposal with glee.
Bulldozing herself into Gray's life, she actively helps him overcome his mental health issues and slowly, with her support he is able to find a footing.
The writer describes it all in simplistic detail, sympathetic to the concerns and it is carefully written with understanding and hopeful resolution. Full credit to her.

Mikayla Talbot is in love with her boss Price. She is his chief operations officer. Price Marshall is 36 and the CEO of New Zealand’s most successful hydroelectric company. When Price shows Mikayla an engagement ring, she mistakenly thinks he is proposing and blurts out that she loves him. The ring is for his girlfriend Alison. Mikayla didn’t know he was serious about Alison. Mikayla is so embarrassed that she accepts Alison’s offer to take a vacation in Haven Bay at her aunt’s summer home. Mikayla’s twin sister Megan lives there so she can see her as well as get herself together.

Anderson Gray is the reclusive neighbor next door. Even though he pushes Mikayla away, she keeps showing up at his house.

Why is Gray a recluse? Will Gray give in and become friends with Mikayla? Will Mikayla get over Price? I loved meeting the other quirky characters in Haven Bay while waiting to see what happens with Mikayla and Gray.

I absolutely love this story! It was so heart warming, captivating, and beautiful. This is a small town romance story. Mikayla is lovely. She is intelligent, curious, gorgeous, and persistent. Mikayla is running away from home to a small town Haven Bay because she is embarrassed. It's great because she will have her sister there to have in her corner. While she is licking her wounds she becomes intrigue about her next door neighbor. Gray is her next door neighbor. He is rude, smart, famous, and handsome. He is dealing with some issues because of his past. He has a small circle of friends that care about him. Gray is not good with people in general because of his issues. These two start as friends at first and it goes from there. Their chemistry is off the charts and they just combust. Alexa writing was done beautifully and flows throughout the book. I receive this ARC for an honest review through Bookfunnel. I love it! Amazing work Alexa Rivers!

4.5 Stars!

This was a sweet and heartfelt read!

Mikayla needs a break after what might possibly be the most embarrassing moment I’ve read. Gray is a prisoner of the past. Can they help each other and possibly find a future that neither one of them could have imagined?

Yikes! McKayla’s incident with Price was like watching a slow motion train wreck. You could see it coming, but there was just no stopping it. I’m glad she took some time away, especially since she met Gray. She clearly was stuck in her own rut and just couldn’t see it until it was too late.

I really felt for Gray and what he’d been through. I’m glad Mikayla was tough and didn’t back down with him. I really liked his friendships with Kennedy and Charity. I really liked A.J. And loved that he didn’t give up!!!

I really can’t wait see what will happen with Kennedy and Liam!

Wonderful characters with amazing depth.

Bravo to Ms Rivers for a remarkably deep, moving story. Mikayla and Gray's journey was a delight to read, from Grumpy Gray's appearance to the end.

I loved Gray's gruffness in the previous book, and have been intrigued by who he was from as long as I've known he was residing in Haven Bay (it's been a few books since his character was introduced). And if I recall correctly, Mikayla had a cameo in a previous book too (maybe more than one? It's been soooo long since I read the early books in this series!), so my anticipation was ramped for this book!

I sympathised with Mikayla as she watched/stood by Gray, and I felt such an infinity for Gray, his immense struggles and his pushing through each challenge. I applaud the author for her well-researched book. Realistic yet hope-filled.

I also loved the way Gray's best friend was introduced naturally into the storyline, setting us up for the next book series. Well done!

Mikayla and Gray’s story is touching and captivating. Their romantic journey is filled with unseen obstacles, insecurities and doubts that both must confront and try to overcome. Gray’s mental health struggles are handled with a compassion and dignity that in no way detract from enjoying this book. Offering friendship to a man who was haunted by his past and caged by his fears leads Mikayla to the love of her life. She refuses to be pushed away, keeps leading with kindness, honesty and compassion without showing pity or disgust. The fact that their mutual love gives Gray the strength and courage to confront and try to take control of his fears makes their love story much more fascinating and memorable.

This is a slow burn, good feel, friends to lover’s love story between Anderson Gray and Mikayla Talbot in the Haven Bay series. Mikalya is a woman escaping an embarrassing situation, she is persistent, tenacious, loyal and giving. Anderson (Gray) is a lonely recluse with fears, anxiety and phobias but underneath he has the capacity to and wants a great romantic love. I love how their friendship starts slow and even though they are both hurting, their friendship gradually begins to heal each other’s soul as they fall in love. This is the first book that I have read in the Haven Bay series and now I want to go back and read all the other stories. I am especially looking forward to the next story in this series about Kennedy. I received an ARC for an honest review.

I have not read books 1-6 and didn’t need to in order to keep up with book 7; so don’t let that deter you because this is a great book. We have Mikayla (Mik) who is taking a break while her heart heals and Gray who just needs someone to take a break on life to help him rediscover his. They really are a great pair together. Mik is truly a sensitive person, not in her feelings but in her ability to understand another’s struggles. Gray needed someone to see he isn’t scary just scared. Man, their story hit my heart I tell ya. They just work in a truly believable way. The story flowed leaving no gaps BUT ending with much that could still be explored. It also deals with mental illness in a relatable and not disturbing way. I truly appreciate that. Great book!

Mikayla has had a crush on her boss for years, putting herself out to help him with the business, then one day there's an embarrassing incident and she goes on a long holiday to Haven Bay.
While staying in the cottage she goes next door to check on the neighbour, expecting an old man! Nothing could be further from the truth when she meets him. Not having much time to watch films, she has no idea who he is.
Gray sees her arriving and begins to put up with her, he is hiding out in New Zealand from America, due to painful events in his past.
Can Mikayla get past his barriers? Can Gray overcome his demons?

I wondered about the grump reclusive former actor who appeared in previous books. My heart broke when I Grey revealed his history, what he had been though, and how it shaped who he is today. Mikayla is unlucky in love and gave way too much to a demanding boss who didn’t return her feelings. He held her back and I wonder if it was more a case of infatuation. She befriends her neighbor on holiday even though he keeps pushing her away. Mikayla was really good for Grey, supportive and encouraging, without pushing too hard. And Grey is good for her too in helping get over her heartache and discover new opportunities. I liked the teenager he helped coach and his actress friend who sounds like she has a history in Haven Bay.

Mikayla Talbot & Anderson Gray are an unlikely couple, he’s a reclusive Hollywood star in hiding thanks to a stalker, a fire, and a death; while she’s on a work break after telling her boss she was in love with him as he was preparing to propose to his fiancé.

After meeting and not exactly being friendly, Mikayla takes it as a personal challenge to win Gray over as a friendly neighbor, especially since she has no idea he’s famous. Once she realizes his fears, she remains his friend as he helps her heal too.

It’s a great slow burn romance, where the characters actually are friends first and then the sizzle of attraction takes roots; it’s also a story of healing and having patience while people suffer through their own personal traumas.

It’s a slow burn story.

Mikayla was obsessing her boss. Anderson was escaping from the world because he had PTSD. An embarrassing and heartbreaking situation led Mikayla to go for a vocation, and this was the beginning of Anderson and her story…

This is not a simple and pure love story, instead, it’s about how a powerful love and patience could help a PTSD patient to recover. Through the story reader could get a glimpse into the world of a person who has suffered from PTSD, for example how frustrated they felt. And that is what made this story meaningful.

It’s a good read. Thank you for including me in the arc team!

I loved being back in Haven Bay and we finally get to know the deeply private and recluse Gray and it is all thanks to Mikayla who doesn't take no for an answer and needs a distraction after coming to Haven Bay to get over the utter mortifying encounter with her boss. I loved how Gray finally gets motivated and ever so slightly nudged in a gentle way to start living again and being out in the open. There are loads of laughs, familiar face and new ones as well as some heartbreak, hopelessness, attraction and love. I can not wait for Destiny Falls to see what happens there!!!!.

The way Mikayla’s story opens is enough to make you run with her from sheer humiliation! That she runs to Haven Bay puts her next door to Anderson Gray, whose own back story is traumatic and who is also seeking shelter in Haven Bay. Mikayla starts to break down his defenses and they become closer – but it’s unclear whether two fragile and healing people can find their way to a happy ever after. Let me tell you, the chemistry between those two is awesome from the start, and it’s not easy to stop reading once you’ve started this book. Another two appealing characters from Alexa Rivers, and more insight into the lovely Haven Bay community.

I read a couple of Little Sky novellas, but the Haven Bay series has cemented the author as a world-class storyteller. I felt so bad for Mikayla, how she mis-read the situation with her boss. But Grey... now we know why he was so grumpy in "Begin Again with You". And his issues go much deeper than just being grumpy. I love how she just inserts herself into his life; they begin spending time together as mere acquaintances, and it isn't long before they're on a slow burn. Friends from the previous books show up throughout this story. And there's a perfect lead-in to Destiny Bay... I received a copy of this book from the author, and this is my honest review.

Mikayla is in live with her boss and when he shoes her a diamond ring she blurts out YES! But it’s for his girlfriend and she’s horribly embarrassed. She’s given time off for a vacation and time to think. She goes to her aunts beach house and finds that she’s has a grumpy neighbor. Anderson is a former A lister and left Hollywood after a traumatic experience to live as a recluse in a beach house. She’s determined to meet him and then get him to start living, But as she’s helping him they start getting feelings for each other. Will this lead to more? Wow!!! Exceptional story!!! Two people who are perfect for each other, personalities probably (definitely?) not good with anyone else. He wants nothing to do with the world; she could give a shit what his issues are!!! She pushes, no, drives right through him. Nonetheless a remarkably well crafted story so good to read, I couldn't put it down.
Alexa Rivers stories are always excellent, but she has really outdone herself with "Let Me Love You"
I wholeheartedly recommend this book to all romance readers.

Beautiful heartfelt read.

It was lovely to be back in Haven Bay. I have been looking forward to Anderson Gray's story and it did not disappoint. Mikayla and Gray's friendship and connection was very special, and I enjoyed following their story about overcoming fear and fighting for the life you want. Having been briefly introduced to Gray's friend, Kennedy, I now also can't wait for the first book in Alexa River's new series, Destiny Falls.

Alexa is such a talented writer, I have never read a book of hers I didn't love. So happy to return to Haven Bay and have Gray's story - a hero with issues for sure but once the story unfolds you can see why. Mikayla was a lovely heroine for Gray. All of Alexa's characters are so well written, they feel so real and like people you would love to have in your life. There are "all the feels" with an Alexa story - romance, friendship, humour, some real poingnant moments and plenty of heat too. Such a consistently good writer, I highly recommend reading her entire catalogue.

Mikayla is a driven woman, she works hard (in an operations management role), and is kind of in love with her boss (Price), which means she has gone over and above for her work. Then she embarrasses herself, and flees her work, taking a holiday. Mikayla introduces herself to Grumpy Neighbour (Anderson Gray), who is abrupt with her, but intriguing. I loved Mikayla and Gray's touching story, the chemistry between them, how they support one another and the healing they do together.
