I got this book for free. Seems to be the first book in a series. There was an insta-lust thing going on between them and it got stronger when they both had to pretend that it didn’t exist.
Chemistry between Fynn and Evelyn was there, but I felt there was a lack of the emotional bonding between them. Romance felt lacking. Would have been nice to see the author delve into Fynn’s backstory more, as it felt shallow.
Fynn Monroe an investigative journalist, is always out to get to the truth. This time its the truth about the rise of The Cartice Family. The founders & owners of Ludere Enterprises. He knows there is something they are hiding. The family will not have an interview with a single member of the press. That all changes when Evelyn Cartice Legal Counsel & sister for the Cartce family invites Mr. Monroe to their newly purchased eighteenth century country manor for a week. The bet that Mr. Monroe can find corruption in the Ludere Enterprises'. What does he get? the story of the century. Build his reputation within the racks of journalist.
Evelyn Cartice Legal Counsel for the Ludee Enterprises is about to make the bet of her life. Allow the investigative journalist, Mr. Monroe to look thru their business records. To prove to him & the e public that the company is legit & nothing to hide. They need the story by an honest journalist, who has integrity & writes the truth. Him not finding any dirt of the Cartice family will lead the path to a smooth launch into the international markets. What Evelyn didn't expect was to have the chemistry she had for Fynn. Could it only be lust? She has already been hurt by a rich boyfriend. She doesn't want to be used, lied to by an outside of all things. but while the two bond over a few days. Hearts & desires take over& leads to a night of passion. Both Fynn & Evelyn imagines possibly being able to have a relationship after this story is written. Just when they start to open up about they emotions. On the last day of the bet Fynn Monroe finds the dirt. Dirt he wonders if the whole Cartice family knows. Or are they in the dark too? Now he has to break the news to the woman he has just failing in love with. What happens when Evelyn's plan backfires? She has lost the bet & she didn't even know it! Not only that she has been lied, & used not by an outsider but by a loved one. What will Fynn do know that he knows the truth. His story is due & if he doesn't report to his editor it's his career. Or the woman he loves.
What is Evelyn going to do? She is almost sure the CEO her brother Ryan doesn't know the illegal transactions that Mr. Monroe found. How does this affect her loyality to the company if she goes against her beliefs on ethics. Will she hide the dirt to protect the Cartice family name? Or will she wait and see what Flynn will do with the secret he uncovered. Either way she knows she has lost the man she believes she loves. Plus the respect from her siblings once they find out the truth. I enjoyed the story, intrigue & lust of the two characters. I do wish they would go into more detail of Fynn Monroe's back story. It's brought up thru the story several times. The only thing we know is he needs to have a big story. Plus, he has lost out on his inheritance. Sounds to me it has something to do with honesty & ethics?
