A love as wild as the ocean can never be tamed. A desire that burns like fire can never be extinguished. A broken boy who becomes a monster can never be outrun.
I’ve loved Kat Shaw since I was nine years old. Loving her was dangerous. Loving her was wrong. Loving her was all I ever had.
And then it was ripped away from me.
I was discarded like unwanted trash, Ruined, shattered, and alone.
But I am not that helpless boy anymore. Now I am a cold, ruthless killer out for blood. And the blood I want is hers.
*Please be advised this is a stand-alone dark romance*
I ate this book up like it was the last book on earth. Now the subject in this book is more on the angst side to me really. Also heavy on abuse and SA.
Kat life has been riches and the good stuff but she felt empty. She bonded and had a amazing friendship with Heath and that friendship turned into them being family. Still there bond and relationship grew until something happened to Kat. She wanted to save Heath and so she pushes him away and causes him heartbreak for his own good. Poor Heath 😥 I felt so bad for him and also knew why Kat did what she did. So from there on out poor girl was dealing with 2 different rapist and abusers. I'm suprised she survived that.
I wish I second part she grew more of a backbone when she was dealing with her abusive husband I know why she took it. Better to deal with that monster then her other one. But girl took beatings and rapes.. until Heath came back into the picture. Well she still did. I did get annoyed she still wanted to push him away. But it's been years and Heath isn't that nice guy anymore. He still loves Kat But he also hates her just as much. I think I loved Heath more then Kat for many reasons even when Heath knew the truth he wanted revenge and his girl. Kat just annoyed me about her choices.
Angst, om drama, sorta cheating (h and H together she's married), drama, sexy times, virgin gal no manwhore (remember shes married she hates the husband he's a rapist and abuser)

There were so many good reviews for this book, I thought surely, this would be it . The book we can all agree on, but no. Not even close.
While the premise was good , the story just lacked any substance . The entire story revolves around one girl that every one wanted and everyone abused . She was weak, pathetic and had no sense of survival . She said she left him to save him , but she couldn’t save herself ? She couldn’t leave the pathetic island and leave with him? No , she couldn’t because she was just as much of a greedy person as she claimed everyone else to be . She stayed because she didn’t have anything else , no where to go, blah blah… but the reality was she stayed because she didn’t know how to live without the comforts of her riches . So I feel no empathy for her at all. In life, choices and consequences will dictate your path . She reaped all the consequences of her choices .
As for Henry, he was just as bad as his character was written so I have no qualms on him . But Heath? 5 years and he wasn’t with anyone? While he sat back and watch the so called love of his life move on and marry someone else? As much as I loved to believe it, I wasn’t sold on it .
From all the snippets and descriptors, Kat didn’t seem all that attractive to everyone and yet, we have all these fellas vying and fighting for her? It just made no sense . The story just lacked the substance to back up all these story lines . Didn’t enjoy it .

I started in the romance genre with the belief that most books can easily become thrillers with the change of a few words/characterizations of one or two of the characters.
Then came this book - and I have no clue what to make of it.
Writing-wise it's well done. Very comprehensible and I wasn't cringing my way through it.
Plot-wise. Oh boy. I think I ought to start reading summaries instead of picking books up by a single line that I see on insta. Some of the books I'm starting to choose are getting really out of hand. For instance, this fuckery.
We have gems like: "Fuck his wife hard next to his purple and very dead body. Make her come and cry my name as he takes his last breath." Talk about a cuckold I guess.
Now, for those curious onlookers wondering why I continued - morbid fascination + want to drown out the bigger problems in life. As it turns out horribly abusive and taboo relationships do a great job of drowning out whatever daily stressor is on your mind.
We also have:"I wouldn't stop, though. I'd ram into her sweet mouth, hitting the back of her throat, owning her, making her my whore and my queen. It didn't matter which as long as she was mine." I think a literary award ought to be given for this one. Imagery so vivid yet so little censor. I also just want to point out that this guy walks around with this girl's underwear in his back pocket.
"You don't get to leave me again. You never get to leave me unless I fucking slit your throat myself." (as he saves her from a current) With a line as romantic as this I can't tell if he's raised the bar or lowered the standard further into the grave.
But jokes aside - there is somewhat of a compelling piece to want to see them together (no matter how much my brain hates it) with lines like this: "I think you meant what you said. Playing poor was fun for a while, but once you realized it might have consequences, you chose the safe and easy path, the one that had been laid out before you. [...] I couldn't offer you shit, Kat. I had nothing. [...] " would have vowed to spend the rest of my fucking life loving you." And really all my female lizard brain wants to hear are these words. Unfortunately, I'm not the biggest fan of all the packaging it came in.
Especially because it shortly follows with him forcing her to prostitute herself and this "while I'd take a bullet for her, I'd also cut out and eat her still-beating heart." (and let me tell you, as someone with no experience or business eating hearts, that I don't think that'd be an appetizing meal).
"She has to drop to my level first, fall to pieces before I pick her up and make her whole again." (and here we go ladies and gentlemen - round 34 of is he toxic or his normal - hint: the answer isn't normal)
Although this isn’t much of a spoiler to be honest because at this point in the novel I can’t think of any other reason why we’d all be here otherwise.
....
we're several pages deep - and I think I've been scarred. Just when I thought I'd seen it all... sometimes I wish my imagination were less vivid.
the end...
I never thought I would need bleach after reading a book made of words - but I need bleach, except I'm not sure if I should start with my eyes or a specific part of my brain.
This book has been very informative on several levels: 1) I like my love-making and my violence in different scenes - not right next to each other 2) I need to start reading the plot summaries Full disclaimer, this review is nothing against those that enjoyed the novel. For the plot and niche it sells in, it's pretty well written. But as someone not expecting it, I feel attacked.
Triggers listed at end because they contain spoilers, the list is extensive.
Original Sin is Author Mila Crawford's modern retelling of the Bronte classic 'Wuthering Heights'. If you are familiar with that work, you know it is a dark story filled with sorrow and angst. This telling is no different but the characters do achieve a HEA.
Kat, is not your typical rich girl, she's a tomboy who loves the outdoors and has a fuller figure. She's awkward and has difficulty making friends amongst society's elite. Her one true friend is the housekeepers' son, Heath.
Heath, who is referred to as trash by Kat's older brother, is completely and utterly devoted to her. The duo take on the world and those who would bully them together.
The island, the ocean, and even the manor they live in, seem to work against them achieving any kind of happiness. Can they stand together and fight for their forbidden love or will they let outside forces destroy them?
I created a whole goodreads account because I felt obligated to warn people about how utterly disgusting and disturbing this book was. The most shocking thing is that this book is basically incest, throughout multiple parts of the story the male lead uses the fact that they are siblings by law as dirty talk during s*x and it leads to it being disgusting and borderline predatory. Also the male lead literally sodimizes her r*pist husband with a knife and it’s just kind of GLOSSED OVER??? Like it happened and then the husband mentions it once and it’s just like ok?? The pacing and writing is horrendous I mean this is one of the worst written books I have ever read. I’ve read better on wattpad written by 12 year olds. The characters are incredibly unrealistic, predatory, and downright disgusting and there isn’t a single likeable character. The smut isn’t even good or “dark” in a hot way. It just feels like it’s written for shock value. Overall a horrible book would give it 0 stars if I could. I really don’t know what these other people in the reviews are saying.

“I’ll always find her because Kat is an integral part of who I am. She’s the only person who knows all sides of me. She embraces it all, the good and the bad, and while our love may be imperfect, it’s ours to have and to hold. Ours is a love that transcends time and place, equally comfortable in the pits of hell or the clouds of heaven. Kat is everything to me, and I know I mean the world to her.”🥺❤️🔥✨
i fucking ate this book up OMG🤌🏽stop wht ur doing & read this book bcos oh my was this a treat to read😮💨
“my killing spree has just started, and they’ve got no idea they fucked with the wrong man when they kidnapped Katelyn Shaw. i’ll gladly die in battle revenging the woman i love, and i won’t stop until every single person who looked at her wrong is dead. game over.”
heath. u have my heart, my soul, everything😭his words & thoughts are so FREAKING cute & he’s caring. but then whn he returns after 5 years as a new man he’s extremely possessive & jealous af. touch wht belongs to him & ur dead🤭which lemme tell u again is hot. the mouth on him is something alr ;) heath = morally grey🖤
kat, my heart goes out to her bcos her brother is a massive prick & the cards she’s been dealt are hella unlucky. yet she keeps a smile on her face & only looks upwards n onwards. HOWEVA in saying tht kat did annoy me. i felt she was a bit pathetic, she was weak & even w all the years tht passed she didn’t grow a backbone wht so eva.
henry (kats brother) is jus rude asf, like thts it. whn u read it you’ll instantly understand wht i’m saying💀
reading this book was truly a beautiful experience. the drama, the angst, the emotion, the tension. heath carried this story, and i will be obsessed w this retelling 4eva🖤
I love Mila’s writing. I love her spice. And this twist on an old classic is wonderful. I’m just not a super big fan of heavy degradation and this book is full of it. So be warned going in.
I knew this was going to be good as soon as i read the dedication: “For all the Girlies who like them toxic.” What can I say? I like my fictional men morally grey and with alllll the red flags.
Be aware that Original Sin is a DARK reimagining of Wuthering Heights. While it is spicy, this book has more plot than some of Mila Crawford’s other books do.
Kat Shaw and Heath Clifton grew up two lost, broken children who found a best friend in each other. One day, however, they became family. Kat grew up wealthy and privileged, while Heath grew up without until being brought into the Shaw family. Despite becoming technically family and growing up with considerable differences, they became lovers as well as best friends. That is, until one day Kat breaks Heath’s heart. The two reunite after 5 years, both having gone through hell, but their hearts still belonging to each other.
If you’ve read Wuthering Heights, you’ll appreciate that Mila Crawford kept the mix of flashbacks and present time to tell the story. I loved the modern take and the HEA Kat and Heath so rightly deserved. While not insanely spicy, the spice was great, especially for those who love taboo romance.
This book has: - Wuthering Heights re-imagining - HEA - Second chance - Primal - Taboo
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.75/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5/5
I received this as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
Original Sin is out 10/5, a standalone, Wuthering Heights reimagining
Kat grew up with wealth all around her, but her heart was missing something. Growing up she has one true friend, Heath. He brought joy and happiness in her otherwise dull life. Until one day their friendship turns into family. But she doesn't see Heath as her brother, but as her lover, until one day she lets him go. Years go by until she is broken and reunited to him.
Heath lost his mother, with nowhere to go he is taken in by Kats family. He grows with Kat and his feelings grow with him. They have a relationship unlike anyone else. Until Kat pushes him away. With his heart broken, he lives out the next years of his life, until he is reunited with the one person his heart belongs to!
Everything about this book was amazing. Mila can do no wrong. The tension, heartbreak and love these two share was felt on every page. So many emotions while reading this one. If any couples deserves a HEA its Kat and Heath. I loved the Wuthering Heights tie ins throughout. The spice was a great throughout (we love the taboo element)
I read this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review...
I don't know how to rate it. It was well written, but it's dark....very dark. When I see this cover, my stomach turns kind of dark.
It had you hooked, you didn't want to believe that the MMC could do what he was saying he was going to do...and then he did.
They way the story ended, couldn't have happened any other way, but it left me feeling like, "What the hell did I just read?" I was in shock...from a story!
Mila Crawford had impeccable writing and hooked me from the beginning. Please, PLEASE check your triggers. I gave it 4 stars because the book was well done, was intriguing right from the first chapter and I don't want to hurt the author because of my personal grievances. But this one is not for the faint of heart.
Heath has loved Kat since they were 9 yrs old. When his mother passes away Kat’s father adopts him. Her older brother, Henry, bullies and harasses them both for years. When they are 18 Kat pushes him away. For 5 yrs they both went through hell. What do you do when your soul mate is found in your adoptive sister? Original Sin is a dark modern reimagining of Wuthering Heights with an HEA.
Definitely check TW’s before reading. This is a very intense, twisted and dark book. But it’s also very steamy and the mmc- Heath goes from a sweet caring boy to a twisted vengeful killer. All because of the girl he fell in love with as a boy, and who pushed him away as a young man at 18. Katlyn hasn’t had it easy either, she’s lost her mom as a young girl and her brother is a sadistic sick person. He makes her life and Heath’s hell. And after their father dies and Heath is hurt, he threatens her and forces her to leave Heath. But he’s back 5 years later and determined to make those who hurt him and destroyed his life pay. The only thing that hasn’t changed in 5 years is his love for Kat.
Heath has loved Kat since they were 9 yrs old. When his mother passes away Kat’s father adopts him. Her older brother, Henry, bullies and harasses them both for years. When they are 18 Kat pushes him away. For 5 yrs they both went through hell. When Heath comes back he is filled with hatred. It’s a complete rollercoaster after that. I couldn’t stop reading. This book is dark so check the TW.

Sweet baby Jesus!! Forgive me father for I have sinned!!
Mila did it again with this forbidden, twisted, all triggers, dark romance 🖤
Kat is from the elites and has it very hard. From one hardship into another. Heath is forced to leave, but will not let anyone or anything get in the way of what’s his.
Their story is intense. Hot hot scenes. And oh so juicy. You will be sucked in from the very beginning and have you jaw dropping throughout the book.
Mila did it again!!! This was one hell of a wild ride, as most of her books are. So many WTF moments and honestly I audibly gasped at some parts of this book. I loved the build up after the prologue… it gave us the prelude to their love story. And I loved the real life love/hate relationship after everything happens.
Heath deserved so much… and Katelyn did as well. After what all they went through in their lives the garbage they were doled out was awful. I loved them both… and loved their beautiful love story.
This book IS NOT for everyone! Please make sure you check your trigger warnings! THIS IS THE EPITOME OF DARK ROMANCE!
Another deliciously dark, twisted and depraved story from Mila Crawford. The story is a modern day take on the classic wuthering heights tale with beautiful but broken characters that have to claw their way to love. The story is written with such emotion amd passion that I felt immersed in the pages and given the chance would have probably finished it in one sitting. The spice level is hot but very dark at times and there are some heavy themes throughout so please check your TW before reading.
This is most likely a case of "its not you, its me" because its written well and I liked it being a retelling of Wuthering Heights. Unfortunately, I was bored.
If I could give it 5* simply because of that cover I would bc it's freaking HOT!!! 🔥🔥🔥 However, it's become my first dnf of 2024.
I’m here for a dark romance. I don’t shy away from bad characters. Not a fan of abuse like this thought. It just felt like it was trying to be darker for thrills? All the characters made no sense?
- ummmmm. WTF IS KAT DOING - Umm. 5 months and she’s with Eddie? There better be a damn good reason - 5 years feel too short to accomplish what he did. He’s 23. A baby - what. He would have been ok sharing her with Eddie??? Like platonically righr??? - he hadn’t been with anyone else? Wow - oh wow…. That was… brutal… - wtf Henry??? - I think I missed how her leaving him and marrying Eddie helped him - this was a little too much for me. Right at my limit

Awesome modernized retelling of Wuthering Heights. Kat and Heath are awesome adaptations of the original characters. Totally traumatized by the people around them but still love each other as they are two halves of the same whole.
Some really terrible things happen in this story. People trying to keep them apart and terrorizing them. It was really sad at times. Much like the original. I try not to give away much plot but I can see the comparison to the original subject matter. I loved the classic and I loved this!!
Overall, this was a great read. It showed the undying love two people can have for each other and what they are willing to do to protect one another and try to be together again.

Pretty good! I think the writing could be improved because the dialogue would sometimes not match the description in my opinion, but it was steamy Wuthering Heights goodness. I love the toxicness and depraved obsession that comes from the source material and this gave me what I wanted.
What a perfect re-imagining of a Classic. As one of the original morally grey MMC, Heathcliff is finally getting his HEA in this re-imagining.
Adoptive Siblings Re-Imagining Touch Her & Die Forbidden Love Dual POV
What do you do when your soul mate is found in your adoptive sister? For Heath Clifford that is the question he is constantly asking himself. Katelyn Shaw is his best friend, confidant, and love of his life, but she is also his sister. Growing up with an abusive father and horrible brother, Heath and Kat clung to each other. And then one day everything changed and Kat broke Heath’s heart.
Fast forward five years and Heath is back for revenge and everything that is HIS.
This is by far Mila’s best work to date. Seeing this version of this classic come to life but with all the spiciness, degrading, un-aliving, and HEA we have come to know and love from Mila.
Adoptive siblings who knew they were soulmates but life just gets in the way. The first few chapters are of the past, where we see Heath & Kat growing up together and how they become adoptive siblings. The housekeeper's son from The Bronx & the rich girl from the fancy suburbs.. Something happens where their paths separate.
The other half of the book is present day, where we see Heath come back into the town (I use this loosely, it was like super rich neighborhood) and is coming back to claim what's his. Of course, Kat is unhappily married (understatement), but he's not going to let that stop him.
**BE WARNED, the first chapter is graphic because it displays a DV situation between Kat and her Husband**

“I’d follow you, Kat. Because there would be no point in living without you.”
Heath moves in with the Shaw’s when he is 9yrs old with his Mother who is the live in help. Heath becomes close to Katelyn (Shaw’s daughter) and they become inseparable. Heath’s Mom passes away when he is 14 and he is left alone and scared as to what will become of him. Mr. Shaw adopts him and giving him a second chance with a son that was better then his blood.
At 17 Mr. Shaw passes and Katelyn and Heath are left in the care of her idiot brother Henry. Henry is a pompous, spoiled, entitled jerk who blows his fathers hard earn money on booze, drugs and cheap woman. Senior year Katelyn and Heath graduate become closer then ever. Heath ends up in the hospital for several months and in this time Katelyn becomes involved with Eddie a friend of her brother Henry. She pushes him away and tells him to move on making him leave everything behind him and moved back to the Bronx where he lived before living with the Shaw’s.
“My heart turned to ash the day you told me to leave. Not only can I hate my own heart, but I can tear it out with my bare hands if it hurts me too much.”
Five years later Heath returns and buys the old Shaw mansion that was foreclosed on. Having done well for himself after leaving he worked his way up with the help from mafia. Although financial he has become successful, Heath is a broken shell of the person he was since leaving. Katelyn has consumed his thoughts and he both loves and hates her. Coming back his one mission is to get her back.
“Sweet Katelyn, I’m the monster the rest of the evil men in your life run from.”
I loved this book and the heart breaking story. I love Mila’s books and always can never put them down! This is a Wuthering Heights retell.

Katelyn and Heath-a ruinous type of love. It’s not their fault. They did the best they could with experiencing so much loss and trauma. But a soul wants what it wants. One of my favorite things is when a love is so strong that two people find their way back to one another and will do whatever it takes to make it happen. That’s what we have here. Heath isn’t done with Kat, no matter what she says and how much pain she had caused him. As usual I’m pulling for the morally grey man to get his happy ending. This was my first book by Mila and it won’t be the last.
"I could die right now, Kat, and I'd be a happy man because most people long for peace in a life consumed with turmoil, and I've found it in your touch.”
"Better to cry over lost years and misunderstanding than to never have rekindled a true love that was meant to be."
"Everything I've ever done was for you, Katelyn. When I open my eyes and rise, it's because of you. When I close them at night, even my dreams flood with visions of you. I can't escape you, even if I wanted to"
"You can't escape me, Kat. I told you once that if you died, I'd follow, and I meant it. It's me and you and eternity, Katelyn Shaw. I'll kill us both myself if you ever try to leave me again."
