Some truths are better kept secret. Some secrets are better off dead.

He is also a psychopath.

A dirty family secret buried for years, Beau’s evil grows unchecked. In the shadows of the haunted abbey, he commits unspeakable acts on his victims and ensures their silence with threats and intimidation. Senior year, Beau sets his sights on his girlfriend’s headstrong twin sister, Leslie, who hates him. Everything he wants but cannot have, she will be his ultimate prize.

As the victim toll mounts, it becomes clear that someone must stop Beau Devereaux.

Ah, high school… Most of us would never want to go back.

However, I don’t think anyone would want to attend the school in this book to begin with because of a slick monster as a classmate.

With a name like Beau Devereaux, captain of the football team, and two hundred years of family prominence, how could you not be popular? This perpetrator is one that you’ll love to hate!

I say that lightly, but be prepared for dark subject matter because a viewpoint throughout the book is that of a sadistic and disturbed teenager. His demented thoughts toward women are very unsettling so I appreciated the publisher’s trigger warning.

The slightly Gothic setting with the abandoned Abbey and small town somewhere in the southern states sounded picturesque but added to my unease.

The story seemed to be aimed at a younger audience but contains an important message for all ages. I thought that the author’s explanation at the back of the book and her motivation for writing it was informative and moving.

Thank you to Alexandrea Weis, NetGalley, and Vesuvian Books for my advance review copy due to publish on August 2, 2022.

I received a gifted copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the book tour hosted by Black Crow Pr.

TRIGGER WARNINGS: Rape, violence, psychopaths POV.
River of Ashes is the first book in an explosive, dark new series that was both creepy and disturbing but captures you and pulls you in beneath its cover. I recommend reading the author's note at the back of the book first as this explains the topic of the book and reason for choosing to write it.
Beau Devereaux is dark and deadly dangerous. He is dating Dawn who's twin sister Leslie despises him and hates him dating her twin sister Dawn. The girls are total opposites of each other and Beau takes great pleasure in bullying Leslie and manipulating Dawn and everyone else around him. He despises women and has a sadistic, torturous nature that made my toes curl. Beau has his sights on Leslie as his ultimate trophy but can she escape the fate he has in store for her?
The southetn gothic setting in this book was fantastic, it had the right amount of eeriness surrounding it and the twists and turns were nail-biting! I really can't wait to see where book 2 will take us in this amazing new series!

The first book in the St. Benedict series is an absolute gripping read! I don't even know where to start, there's nothing that compares to this book and how it makes you feel. I needed 24 hours to form any coherent thoughts and I'm still struggling to put together what this book is about, how it made me feel and why you have to read it. This book deals with a heavy topic, so be sure to check the trigger warnings.

This book is creepy and disturbing, but in such a way that you want to keep reading. You want to know what happens and what causes the characters to act a certain way. Twin sisters, Leslie and Dawn, are opposites and their relationship is somewhat strained at the moment. They fight a lot and one of the main reasons is boyfriends. Leslie doesn't approve of Beau Devereaux and with good reason. Now here is where the eerie music starts playing. Beau bullies Leslie while dating Dawn, constantly creating a wedge between the sisters and manipulating everyone around him; he gets high on power and pain.

The author includes a note at the back of the book explaining the topic of the book and the reason for choosing it. After reading this book, I was left speechless. Speechless because of the characters, the events, and the disturbing scenes but also because of the important message it carries. I've never read something like this before, and I've read a few thrillers, but NOTHING comes close to River of Ashes. This book evokes different emotions in the reader, I literally clapped my hand over my mouth near the end because I was in utter shock and disbelief. This story is a web of deception that is cleverly planned and well written. These characters will stay with the reader long after putting the book down.

RIVER OF ASHES (ST. BENEDICT, #1)
By: Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor

REVIEW ☆☆☆☆☆

I cannot proceed without mentioning the amazing cover art. Look at it. Stunning!

As for the book, RIVER OF ASHES, prepare to be...on second thought, you cannot prepare to read this kind of thing. Expect to have a strong reaction. Expect to feel disturbed.

If ever I have wanted to jump into a story and strangle a character, Beau Devereaux would be the one. I'm guessing you knew his type in high school. The perfect one whom everyone envied. Plus, Beau is the quarterback, monied, beloved by the town and has a last name that equals saving grace. He, however, is not at all what he seems. Beau is a phony, a practiced liar, a great pretender, a walking facade of sunshine, but most of all, he is evil incarnated into human form. Beau has hobbies, such as relishing in the pain and suffering of others and despising those who are not blessed with wealth, while continually using these people for his own personal gain.

"The ***-kissing store clerk annoyed him. One of many who saw his family as a meal ticket. Losers."

"Someone else looking to attach their star to mine."

Does anyone suspect something is amiss? Well, Beau’s father constantly reminds him:

"This family is under scrutiny right now. I don't want your actions threatening our business or our name...What have I always told you? What is our rule?"

"The image you project, and your deeds, are what you're known for. Don't let them see who you really are."

"I've watched you, studied you. I know what you're capable of, and everyone in this **** town is going to find out. Do you know what that will do to our business? To our reputation? You can't walk around reacting to everything and everyone without thinking your actions through."

Thus, Beau lives according to the rule:

"Self-control in all things. Never let anyone see who you really are."

Now, why would a father find it necessary to say any of this to his son? Because he knows his son is deeply disturbed and highly dangerous? Because he cares much more about his business than his son? Some people might say the lack of a father's love is a justified precursor of Beau’s evil acts. I disagree. I cannot make excuses for psychopathic behavior because there are none. These tendencies are well hidden beneath his carefully cultivated public personality.

Beau, living by the self-control motto, extends this control to include his friends, girlfriend, residents of the town, etc. Beau expects to get everything he wants. Especially at "his" weekend hangout-the Bogue Falaya River and The Abbey.

"He wanted his friends to have a good time-and remember he was the guy who made it possible. Beau swelled with pride. This was his realm, his world, where he could be himself, and there was no one to get in his way. The river rules, and I rule the river."

There is one girl, Leslie, who is not fooled by Beau’s charm. Leslie just happens to be the twin sister of Beau’s girlfriend, Dawn. Leslie is the bane of Beau’s existence and the one thing he wishes to, but cannot, possess. She sees the evil lurking behind his eyes and the snake in the grass just waiting to strike. Leslie wants to warn Dawn off Beau, but Dawn is blind to his faults.

"Right now, Dawn's wrapped up in having the attention of a guy she thinks is the catch of St. Benedict. Dating the football star and heir to the Devereaux fortune seems like a dream come true."

Dawn is either too naive or in denial to realize that Beau is using her as a means to an end. Dawn's character grows exponentially, and I admire the resolve and fortitude in her progress. Beau, on the other hand, begins to unravel like a giant ball of yarn rolling down a steep hill. He, perhaps, realizes that money and power are just an illusion. What he really wants is to make Leslie pay for rejecting him. Obviously, no one dares to reject a Devereaux, and crossing Beau is akin to dancing with the devil himself. Leslie is smart, but then again, she's not. Is it a bit of arrogance or stupidity that blinds her to just how dangerous Beau can be? Leslie knows the games Beau is playing, but her own skills are lacking.

"Ever since the night at the river when I turned him down. He's never let me forget it."

Beau remarks to Leslie about Dawn:

"Your sister is a cheap imitation of the girl I want."

With cruelty that knows no bounds, a complete lack of empathy and old money on his side, Beau does as he pleases without any thought of consequence. The big question is whether or not anyone will attempt to stop whatever sinister things are happening to girls at the river and the Abbey? What happens if you speak up with accusations? Do the powerful always win? Is it necessary and justified to sometimes work outside of the law?

"I don't need help. What I want is revenge."

This book is enlightening in the way of the narrative. The viewpoints of both good and evil characters are given, and readers get answers before the characters do. I like this method, but it creates a seriously tense story. I was on pins and needles, hoping for the best but expecting the worst. When terrible things happen, you can throw the book, but make sure to pick it up and read all the way to the last word. You might think your eyes have deceived you, but actually, no. Do you believe in karma, vindication or just plain irony? You will. Indeed, you will.

I love psychological thrillers and this one surely caught my interest. It is the first book in the St. Benedict series. Beau Devereaux, a psychopath in the skin of a good person is dating Dawn, the twin sister of Leslie. The twins are polar opposites of each other and do not share a good relationship. In fact, Beau seems to have an alter ego - he is the polar opposite of his public self when nobody is watching him. He loves inflicting pain on others. He is rich and there's nobody to stop him from doing what he wants. Even after Leslie's warnings, Dawn remains indifferent to Beau. A lot of the story is told from his point of view which really gave me an insight into what was going inside his head that made him feel so entitled to things he wanted. If I could, I would have happily smashed his head open and put in all the sense there was and then seal it so tight he won't ever be able to go back to his previous self.

The river and the Abbey are Beau's safe places. He does what he does there. They are important places that seem to always be in the background but are pretty much at the forefront of everything that happens. And the end of the story, I did not see that coming.

This was a very unexpected story for me, very different from the kind of books I usually read. It was eerie and creepy at times but I liked it. There was a clear distinction between the good and the bad, and there seemed to be no in-between. The two prominent social issues that make the very foundation of this story are bullying and sexual harrasment, and the authors have not shied away from depicting the raw reality of our real world. The story is fast-paced and gripping, and has its share of twists and turns. Certain things caught me off guard. The character development is commendable. Very well written.
Looking forward to the sequel.

There is mature content and certain things are pretty dark and disturbing so make sure to check the trigger warnings before reading this book.

One word. Excellent. This book filled me with rage at times, those times being around every 10 pages or so. It was spot on with the way it addressed social issues that are so relevant right now like bullying and sexual harassment, which was portrayed in such a harrowing way. I feel like I connected with the characters, whether that was through love or hate (both, it was both), and the antagonist Beau made me want to rip my hair out constantly. If you like a teen based (but definitely adult) thriller with a whole load of twists and turns and a whole load of "oh my god just punch him in the face", please make sure you pick this one up. I’m so hyped that there’s a second book. I definitely feel like this would work really well as a movie, I got a '90s teen thriller vibe from it.

Please check trigger warnings.

River of Ashes was a complete miss, and I am sad about it. Look at that cover. STUNNING!!! Plus, the premise sounded amazing. I have seen several 5-star reviews, so maybe I am in the minority with this one, and you may love it. If you are fan of Southern Gothic this one may appeal to you.

I had a hard time with the writing style. I am not sure if this is a result of two authors or not, but it was so hard to get through at first. It felt clunky, and I had to re-read several sections. Once I found my footing, it was relatively fast-paced.

I love great characters. It doesn’t matter if they are good or evil; I just love a complex, interesting character. I also love a villain's point of view. River of Ashes follows a few points of view; one of them is the villain, a psychopath no less... and it was utterly boring. I don't know how you make a psychopath boring, but they did. I think it would have been better without the villain’s point of view. Since we know what he plans to do, there is no tension or suspense. Even the twist at the end was super predictable. All of the characters are pretty one-dimensional, and the one character that is interesting and complex is wasted.

I think the reason I found this so boring is that the plot is so repetitive. Step 1: Psychopath talks about how he wants to hurt the female main character; Step 2: Female main character doesn't give him the time of day; Step 3: Psychopath goes to the river; he occasionally sees some dogs and a white form and just hurts someone else instead. Wash, rinse, and repeat.

Further, the paranormal aspect (dogs and white form) of this plot is so underdeveloped that it seems out of place. I have read that this is a trilogy and that it will be further developed in the later books, but I don't care enough to find out.

Please note that there are several trigger warnings in this book. Rape, murder, abuse, stalking, etc.

Thank you to NetGalley and Vesuvian Books for the arc of this book. All of the opinions above are my own.

Wow!!! This book was creepy and crazy good!

“The scariest monsters are the ones that lurk within our souls. Edgar Allan Poe,”

The main character in this book is a whacked out Beau Devereaux. This book takes bullying to a whole new level. He’s rich and thinks he is entitled to whatever he wants. Much of the story is told from his pov so you really get a idea of just what’s going on in his head.

“‘The mighty have a longer way to fall than the helpless. That is why the impact of their demise resonates like a dying star throughout the heavens. But beware their wrath. Such a fate can fashion the monsters men come to fear.’”

The river and the Abbey play a large role in the background throughout the story.

Leslie is one of the only people who see what lurks behind the Golden Boy Persona. It’s come between her and her twin.

“What about the wild dogs? Have you seen them around The Abbey?” “Not to worry, love, I’ll protect you from ghosts, wild dogs, and Beau Devereaux.”

Legend has it that when they appear, death is near.”

This story kept me on the edge throughout the whole book. The twists and turns just kept coming to the very end.

I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

I received an arc of this book for my honest review and holy sh*t!! What did I read here? I'm not sure how to describe it other than disturbing in such a wicked but good way. I *loved* being in the bad guy's POV. The twins were interesting but I'll take the psychopath for the win. I'm sure that will not be everyone's cup of tea, but what a wild and exciting way to write a thriller. The end made me shout with vengeful glee but the epilogue made me want to strangle the authors for not having book two out already!! I can't wait to see what happens next with the Devereaux family.

Wow.
What a twisted little tale of obsession.

First and foremost, I want to thank Vesuvian books for the arc! I’m absolutely in love with the cover art for it. They did an amazing job with that, and the writing style of these authors is immaculate.

The story really drags you in. I was initially selected for this arc because of my love for the You books… but Beau makes Joe Goldberg look like a damn Saint. Check the trigger warnings (rape, abuse etc) before embarking.

I did feel the last few chapters were a bit rushed, but still thoroughly enjoyed the twist ending. Also the fact that there is a sequel is exciting! I look forward to reading it and diving more into world of the Devereaux’s 😈

First off, I love the cover. It makes me think fantasy, but I guess psychopaths hide behind a mask of their own making, so it fits the story. I love psychological thrillers and find psychopaths fascinating. Because of the very effective blurb, a sense of menace lingers on every page and I am waiting and eager for the bad to begin.

River of Ashes by Alexandrea Weis & Lucas Astor is told from the psychopath’s point of view, at least some of the time. Oh yeah. I love seeing the world through his twisted eyes.

Beau is rich, a psychopath and he wants Leslie, though, for the moment, he’s settled for her sister, Dawn, while Leslie find Derek perfect and wants nothing to do with the ‘off’ Beau. Her intuition is spot on.

Beau hides his anger. His motto: Never lose control. One slip…Once the genie is out of the bottle…All his life, his dad had told him, “Don’t let them see who you really are.”

WOW. So much heartache and evil, twists and turns. I love books that get my emotions bubbling, gripping me, making me read until the wee hours of the morning, having to know…I couldn’t stop.

I always try and figure things out, but it didn’t happen here. I was surprised at the very end and that rarely happens. I can hardly wait to see what’s in store for Book II, River Of Wrath, and I plan to be around for it.

This books was a nice read, thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read an ARC in exchange for a review.
The book is really interesting. All of the narrators have a different insight and something different to say. The story didn’t hooked me that fast but still awoke my interest. The best part of the book was the insight of the narration. Each character manages to get lost in their thoughts, all of them with unique stories. This may be horrible of ,e to say, but instead of the main characters (i still loved her) the got who got me to keep reading was the “villain”. Not because I liked him, he is sick and does terrible things. But is not so common to get the mind of a psychopath obsessed with control. The female main character gives strength to the story. The development is stolen form her by her twin sister, a cheerleader who things she is living the dream. Each characters bring something to the story. It it also important to highlight the critiques about how society and power work over the people. How appearances can fool thousands and how hard it is to speak up in close communities.
Even if it is an interesting reading I must warn that it is a violent one. The book contains strong scenes that cold trigger an unwanted reaction.

This book as I was reading it, I was like having flashbacks to a previous book that this pair had co-written together as the characters were the same and the storyline was similar and I got so confused as it felt the same but not . This book takes us into the lives of twins Leslie and Dawn Moore and Beau Deveraux. Beau is the King of the school and dating Dawn but wants Leslie. He also has a dark side that he is finding it harder to contain and as you read this book, you also discover his nasty antics towards women. He thrives on the power, and as I write the review, I think Beau reminded me of Bryce Walker from 13 Reasons Why with the power of having money and being somewhat invincible. This book though Beau does get Karma back at him and I have to say OMFG the ending of this book blew me away, in a way it has the finish that I can't wait to read Book #2,as you were left with an ending to think about and stew over. This was a good new adult romantic suspense and though the cover has a paranormal/fantasy feel it is more likened to a more modern and contemporary realistic high school setting.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an arc for an honest opinion. This book definitely rode the line between YA (POVS) and Adult (themes). It was a fast-paced psychological horror I won't soon forget. The teens are authentic (something most adults suck at writing) and the tension was palpable throughout. If I bit my nails, I wouldn't have one left. River of Ashes is highly recommended to everyone who likes the dark stuff and isn't put off by a heavy dose of reality. Steer clear if you don't want to live in the mind of a psychotic young man for a good deal of the book. Chilling!

"There were secrets buried in their small town, especially about the Devereaux family".
Beau Devereaux is the richest and most popular boy in the town. Everyone idiolizes him. What they don't know about is the darkness within him, which is why Beau needs to be stopped.
This book involves violence, rape and bullying. Reading Beau's POV was difficult but also interesting. I could see what the men like him have in mind. He truly deserved what happened at the end of the story.
There are so many victims of violence and rape. I loved how girls in this book found their strength and took revenge. Can't wait to read more about them in the second book!

Thank you to Netgalley for the arc!

There’s an almost cinematic quality to RIVER OF ASHES. As the story unfolds, my imagination went haywire, and I could easily imagine David Fincher (director of Fight Club and Gone Girl) or Mary Harron (director of American Psycho) turning this book into a movie. There’s also a bit of a soap opera quality to the drama that plays out between the characters, which would make for a binge-worthy TV series.

River of Ashes is a deep exploration of violence against women and a gripping read that I found impossible to put down. I don’t read thrillers all the time but when I do I tend to prefer psychological ones and this book ticked that box perfectly. It was dark, disturbing and compelling.

The story revolves around violent perpetrator Beau Devereaux who has a sick obsession with his girlfriend’s sister and a deep hate of women. The author did a great job of giving insights into his twisted mind and it was incredibly eerie being witness to his cruel intentions. The reader journeys alongside him as he attempts to manipulate and coerce the sister for his own aims.

This is a very dark book and the first in a series. It started off with a bang, setting the tone for the rest of the series. There’s such a sense of dread which builds steadily through and Southern gothic vibes are executed to perfection. I’m really excited to continue on with the rest of the series!

I appreciated the author notes at the end of the book as it helped me to understand the author’s reasons for writing the book.

Please be aware of trigger warnings before reading - death, sexual assault/rape, psychological abuse, coercive control, gendered violence (violence inflicted on women by males), POV of perpetrator.

Leslie and Dawn are twins. Dawn starts dating Beau who is really psycho and really wants Leslie. Leslie has to dodge his advances at every turn and her sister doesn’t believe her. This puts a rift between the two. This was a creepy read with a bit of paranormal. I can’t wait to read the next one.

”People are like windows, Leelee. They have to crack and shatter before they change their view.”

💀 Spoiler Free Review:

“He liked the image the cells portrayed. It was his laboratory, like he’d read about in Frankenstein, where he could experiment and create his own monsters.”

While this cover looks like it could be a fantasy read- it’s anything but. River of Ashes is a dark, Southern gothic psychological thriller. Quick paced and very twisted. I had a hard time putting this one down.

This book is unsettling, distributing, chilling, violent and one you won’t soon forget. It also comes with it’s fair share of heartache.

A lot of readers might find the content of River of Ashes too dark, I did not. The authors shine a light on the disturbing ways women are treated in today’s society and how not much has changed over the years. An important message to remember while reading this book. Take back your power, and speak up.

I cannot wait to read the second book in this series! A big thank you to the authors and publisher for sending me this book in exchange for my honest review

He loved watching her eyes dart about, searching for rescue, but no one would challenge him. No one ever did..

Beau has a beautiful, bubbly cheerleader as his girlfriend, too bad it is not the twin that he actually wants. But he can put up with this one to get closer to his fantasy. He’s the town’s golden boy, his family owns everything, he is a football star and a model pupil. But behind this façade is the real him, the one who has anger issues, the one who is excited by the fear in a girl’s eyes, the one that you don’t want to be alone with…

The ghostly light illuminated a snake coiled up to the side. His shriek was music to Beau’s ears. “It’s hard to say what I put in there with you. It was dark, so I couldn’t tell if your little friend is venomous or not.”

Warning: Please read the trigger warnings

This was a really good psychological thriller to read, this is one of those books that I picked up because of the beautiful cover it has (a weakness of mine…). We follow the story mostly from Beau’s view, who is our psychopath in the story, and I liked that. We see how he sells a perfect image to the world, but behind that is someone you don’t want to anger. It takes place in a high school setting with all the teenage issues that come with that. Our other views are from twin sisters, one he is dating and the one he really wants. And he is used to getting what he wants…

The authors did a great job with this story, they took on topics that people who rather shy away from and shines a light on them in the best possible way. They reveal the signs that people need to recognise in their own environments. The story is really well told, I could feel how obsessive he is, how he manipulates people, and everything escalates when he realises what he can get away with. And you think you see the end coming, but you don’t…

RIVER OF ASHES is the first instalment in Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor young adult /new adult to adult, contemporary, ST. BENEDICT'S thriller that follows high school seniors (and twins) Leslie and Dawn Moore, and high school quarterback Beau Devereaux.

WARNING: RIVER OF ASHES contains scenes of graphic violence and sexual abuse, and may not be suitable for all readers.

Told from several third person perspectives including Leslie, Dawn and Beau RIVER OF ASHES follows the tumultuous relationship between high school seniors Leslie and Dawn Moore, and Beau Devereaux. Months earlier star quarterback and spoiled rich son of the town’s largest employer, Beau Devereaux found himself attracted to sassy and mouthy Leslie Moore but her rejection sent him into the arms of her identical twin Dawn. Seeking revenge for Leslie’s brush-off, Beau begins to make life miserable for his girlfriend’s sister, while pushing forward with his plans to take what he wants, at all costs.

RIVER OF ASHES is a startling, energetic and dramatic look at a psychopath in action. Long buried secrets come to the surface as Beau’s violent tendencies leave broken bodies and broken souls in its’ wake. There is only one way to stop Beau Devereaux but stopping Beau means, quite possibly, ending another life.

RIVER OF ASHES has most of the hallmarks of a YA story line including jealousy; mean girls; cliques; rich vs poor; semi-oblivious parents ensconced in their own personal hells, as well as a high-school population terrorized by repeated abuse from one of their own.

Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor pull the readers into a haunting nightmare of a psychotic mind. The premise is dark and powerful in its’ presentation as the frenzy and hysteria begin to unfold.

WOOF this book is… something else. I’m going to start off by listing many triggers that are in here:
Rap3
Murd3r
Abu5e
V!olence
Psychopath POV
Obsession
Stalking
Revenge

Now with that being said, I did enjoy the storyline and this was definitely a good psychological thriller. Set in a high school in Louisiana, Beau is the town golden boy and heir to the Devereaux fortune and company. But what almost no one else knows is that he is a psychopath. Obsessing over his girlfriend Dawn’s twin sister Leslie, he believes nothing will stop him in getting what he wants. The twists and turns of this book will pull you in and leave you *slightly* panicked at times. @alexandreaweis @lucasastorauthor @vesuvianmedia y’all did a doozy on this! ALSO THE PLOT TWIST AT THE END, I did not see that coming in the slightest!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5

I have been itching to read River of Ashes ever since reviews started popping up on my feed! This book promised psychological thrills and oof, did it deliver 👀

Beau Devereaux is a walking nightmare that preys on the girls around him. Spending time in his mind was arm-hair-raising and absolutely bone-chilling. While we are privy to his thoughts and emotions, Beau is never the victim. Astor and Weis never try to get you to feel sympathy for Beau and for that I’m forever thankful.

While I did get frustrated with the high school drama at times, I understood that it played its role in the story. I was stunned on several occasions. From beginning to end, this book is full of psychological twists and turns. That ending in particular 😱 I have no idea where book two could be headed, but I need to know more!

!! Looking up trigger warnings is a must for this !!
I was initially intrigued by the plot as well as the stunning cover but I didn't particularly enjoy the story as much as I thought I would. I feel that the pace was a bit too fast and that everything was a bit too rushed. Certain events also felt vague so I couldn't really enjoy the story. With that being said, this is a very dark novel with very graphic sexual assault mentioned so please be wary of that if you decide to read this novel.

This was overall a very quick read but is definitely not one for me. It wasn't the gruesome scenes or the intense violence but rather the dialogue and the overall turn of events. The ending was not what I expected and it didn't really give me the satisfaction I had expected.

Thank you Katie and Brey PA and to the author for providing me with this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I was seriously looking forward to reading this after all of the reviews I have been hearing. Great for this time of year.

It’s an intense delve into the problematic psyche of privileged narcissistic teen men and the young women that they affect. Also showing the way that people join together to make change.

From the very beginning I could not put this down. It is soo very well written and flows fast. I rooted for the women and hated him all along the way. The twists in life that encourage bad personalities are soo prevalent. There has a slight paranormal twist as well as an atmosphere that is creepily interesting. I am very much ready to read the next book.

I accepted this arc solely based on the brief synopsis and gorgeous cover and was a little weary when I realised just how dark it was. However, I can’t praise this book enough. The story is unique and captivating, the characters, the tense macabre atmosphere and the eerie river setting was mesmerising.

I especially enjoyed Beau’s POV - it was simply brilliant and absolutely gripping.
readers to fully enjoy Beau's perspective.

All in all, the writing style of the two authors and the thrilling plot, twists and turns all came together really well to create an psychological thriller. It might even be my favourite 2022 read (of this genre).

Loved it! 5 stars

I wasn’t sure how to rate this book. I didn’t like it but that’s because it is not a me book. Too violent. Too graphic. Please be aware of trigger warnings: rape, sexual assault, gaslighting…

However, I do recognize the excellent writing and the well defined characters. These two authors wrote well together.

And I want to add, THAT COVER!!! The artwork in the book is gorgeous! It is what caught my attention and made me want to read this book. Just beautiful!

Thank you Net Galley and Vesuvian Books for this digital arc in exchange for my honest review which is not affiliated with any brand.

Evil lurks in the most unlikely places especially when cloaked in charm, good looks, and wealth. With reality bordering on the chilling, I jumped in feet first and was amazed when the story unfolded. The lure of the river and the foreboding figure of the Abbey are a character of their own. The twists and turns add more to this thriller and make you question did you see what you just saw. The next book can’t come out fast enough because I need to know what happens next.
