He wants to avoid people at all costs. She plans to flood his tropical oasis with Tinsel Town’s elite.
Riddled with guilt over the death of his best friend’s fiancé, Mac Mackenzie abandoned his band and legions of fans. Leaving the rock star life behind, he sought solitude under the swaying palms of his private pacific island. But fate was blowing in a storm cloud that would change everything.
If Emily Bell can perfectly stage the wedding of the decade for Hollywood royalty, she will get the notoriety as a wedding planner to truly make her business a success. Unfortunately, hurricane damage trashed the island paradise and closed the venue. Her only hope of saving the event, and her reputation, is to convince a washed-up musician to let her hold the wedding on his island.
He wants to avoid people at all costs. She plans to flood his tropical oasis with Tinsel Town’s elite.
Will the attraction they have toward one another inspire Mac to help Emily out of her bind? Or will fear of hurting another person prompt him to turn his back on his growing feelings for her?
Let yourselves be swept away with Talia James’ new later in life romance series, Sinfonia, where the settings are hot and the men are smoking.
Though I'm normally into romance for the spice, this book did not disappoint in the romance department at all. I was drawn into the relationship between Mac and Emily from the very beginning and at every turn more than surprised by the way the two of them tried and failed to ignore the burgeoning sparks between the two of them.
Emily felt so close to home. Someone under appreciated, underwhelming the eyes of those around her but steadily and visibly strong her ideals and beliefs. She stood her ground, looked for the best side of everything and it all worked out for her in the end. She'd been battered and looking for a way to collect all the splinters of her life before Mac stumbled into her life and when the two met at first it was nothing more than anger and flaring tempers. But Emily wasn't one to be put down, put in her place, she'd been that way for too long and this was her phoenix story.
Mac on the other hand is wallowing in his guilt. Hiding away from a world that knew him and wanted him to be an active member; he'd taken to a comfortable life of nothing and no one until Emily barreled her way in. I loved the two of them, as they worked together in quiet understanding. Loved the growth as people that the two of them experienced.
And even if I expected sparks with spice I was not disappointed in the sparks that I was met with. Do read this if you're ready to wipe all disappointing romances off of your books. My first read by this author will definitely not be my last.
10/10 do recommend.

This is my first Talia James book and I received an ARC copy for a review from the BookSirens .
The story is well written and easy paced . The dialogues are witty and fun . Love those conversations with Bob where the hero pours his heart out and finds the answers for himself . This is an age gap , slow burn romance with an older man , a former rock star in hiding on a tropical island and a younger woman , an event planner in a search of an island for a wedding .
The story starts as a comedy of errors and misunderstandings between Mac and Emily . There is an added drama from both their ex - es . Meddling Angelina puts them together . But it's Mac who decides to have the wedding on the island . So working together to arrange the wedding , Mac and Emily not only repair the island property but mend and heal the broken pieces in themselves . Mac is forced to come out of his hiding and to start living his life .
Emily is forced to work hard for her dream job and success as an event planner literally by fixing the island property and turning it into tropical paradise . All that helps her become more strong and independent and to leave her self doubts behind . As an added bonus enters Hugo , Emily's ex , who adds confusion and doubt to the situation .
Mac's secret and reason for hiding is revealed and on top of it he has to come to terms with his feelings for Emily . They both have to make choices but first they have to choose themselves .
If you are looking for a sweet summer read with a happily ever after this series starter is the perfect read .
Delightful, humorous, angsty, age-gap romance with a touch of comedy of errors Truly dreamy, to coin an Emily word, story of a 46yo former rock star who had chosen to run away from a situation fifteen years before and a sweet but sometimes feisty, curvy 34yo woman who takes her life back. They need each other. Albeit a predictable romance in many places, it has a few surprises that will rock the boat. The last few chapters will have you reading faster just to see if Emily and Mac finally get their act together. Loved the beginning and their meet-cute. Emily is dead drunk, doesn’t even remember what happened the night before when she realizes that there is a man in...wait...this isn’t her hotel room! What did she do last night?! Mac saved Emily from herself the night before but can’t help himself when he makes her think something happened between them while knowing that it didn’t. Thing is, he is attracted to her but at the same time he can’t wait to get back to his isolation on his own private island. Except he’s spurned a woman who doesn’t take that lightly and sets in motion a love match between Emily and Mac. And don’t forget Bobby. Fascinating romance with low steam but lots of passion even so. The narrative is well-written, the dialogue is witty and very funny. If you like your romance with humor and fewer explicit scenes, try this book. I guarantee you’ll like it. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens.
This was my first experience with this author, so I really didn't know what to expect. The book was highly entertaining and Ms James did a great job of capturing my interest from the start and pulling me into the story. I became engrossed in Mac and Emily's story till the very end. The characters were well fleshed-out and were easy to relate to, I couldn't help but fall in love with them. Mac is dealing with a terrible guilt. So much so that he leaves his rock star life behind and secludes himself in a private pacific island. Emily is an event planner and is tasked with staging a wedding for Hollywood's elite. When mother nature throws her a curve ball, her only choice is to use Mac's island for the venue. All Mac wanted was peace and quiet and to be left alone. He never expected the storm that is Emily to barrel in and cause him to want to come out of hiding.
This was a delightful, humorous, and fun story and I enjoyed it very much. I hope to read more of this author's work in the future.

Emily was heartbroken about her broken engagement to that lying cheater Hugo. Her job has her in a beautiful island to arrange a wedding event of the rich and famous. Events lead her to Mac, the reclusive, rich, disgruntled ex rockstar. Emily is sweet and mostly innocent to Mac’s been everywhere and done every or everyone. He’s a man of many layers, very complex. I loved his character immediately. I also loved Em even though I really didn’t identify with her, her character was just perfect for Mac’s older grouchy guy. Em’s family are something else, but I guess that’s family. I’m almost done with this book and it’s extremely disappointing. There are conversations that go nowhere, moments of confessions that don’t move the story forward. Em and Mac act like high school students. I’m almost done with this book, 85% done and these two have barely kissed. This was the cleanest dirty rockstar book I’ve ever read. The ending was disappointing, giving this book three stars.
This is the first book I've read by Talia James, and I must say I enjoyed reading this story. Mac and Emily was fun to follow. They have a piece of history after spending a night together without anything happening due to Emily being drunk. Since Emily is an event planner, she likes to use Mac's Island. They have a bit of an attract and repulse relationship, Mac thinks he isn't worthy of her and is holding back and she feels that and doesn't get it. Only when something happens do they both know what they want . This book is perfectly written, the storyline and the structure are good. The characters and their characters are great. This book is highly recommended and I will definitely be reading more from Ms James.

Mac and Emily have an unconventional one night stand where nothing sexual happened. Mac took care of a drunken Emily and then never expected to see her again. She is an event planner who wants to use his island for a wedding. He lets her and then helps her fix up the island. He is drawn to her but feels he does not deserve her so he tries to keep her at arms length. She is attracted to him but feels that he doesn't want her. Her life intrudes on their island paradise and causes problems. She finally realizes who and what she wants. I loved the gentle build up from friendship to romance. You feel yourself rooting for them to get together. Great characters and believable plot. I really enjoyed this book. I received this book as an Arc and am leaving a review voluntarily.
Who doesn’t love a romance set on a beautiful tropical island? This is the perfect summer beach read, a heartwarming mix of slow burn romance, high drama and happy endings set in a paradise brought to life through the wonderfully easy to read writing style of Ms. James. I did love that it was not full of twenty somethings, both Mac and Emily are great characters, he’s so flawed and believes he’s beyond redemption and she is striving for some meaning in her life beyond what her meddling mother believes she should be doing (and who she should be marrying). It’s clean, some naked moments but no between the sheets action and it has Bob, a great example of man’s best friend with truckloads of personality. An enjoyable page turner.
Emilies wedding planning business is about to imp!ode when she is asked to take over a wedding at the last minute. It is a famous couple and making it a success will give her business the boost it needs. Tragedy strikes when a storm devastates the island the wedding was to be held on. When a problem comes up Emilie always finds a way to make things work. Mac and Emilie had a rough start but worked well together all the while fighting off their attraction. With interference from family and Emilie's cheating ex I began to wonder if they would ever get together.
There were funny parts sad parts and swooned parts so I would say this story has it all. Oh and I forgot to mention Bob the dog who played a big part.
I love the older man aspect of the story. His lifestyle was pretty exciting.....a recluse on his own island and a former rockstar.
I was sorry about how often we were reminded that Emily suffered low self esteem due to her older sister's large personality and how Emily was made to feel from her mom's large personality.
One star for how once we connected the two main characters, we get too much thrown at them....perhaps OTT.
And for the last 40% it seems they don't connect but grow farther apart. The story has them pulling it together in the last two chapters. 🤔 Netgalley offered ARC for honest review.
This story focuses on Mac, a rock star who's been out of the business for many years and Emily, a wedding planner who's in a bit over her head on a celebrity wedding. Their love story isn't instalove, rather after a rocky beginning, their relationship grows by working together to pull off a big wedding. They both have skeletons in their pasts, but she has a family and former fiance that show up and want to take over her life. After a few twists love wins out! This is my first exposure to this author and it won't be my last.

The Grump vs. Optimist trope gets a very sweet airing in this story. Mac is the grump who lives on an island with punishing guilt and a big cute dog. Emily is an over-ambitious wedding planner trying to prove herself against the seemingly perfect success of her sister. I liked how the author allows the characters to break down the stereotypes that have bound them to unhappy lives. The happily-ever-after almost doesn't happen, and it is a riot when Mac and Emily both decide at the exact moment to choose each other instead of their pre-ordained boring lives.

Well thank you now I want to holiday on an exotic island with Mac!
A great read very different from the usual romances loved the back stories has me believing in love once more
Families feature in this messy romance they’re not always giving the best advice for you so true to life mind you we can be our own worst enemies believing what people say about and to us it wears you down till something magical happens
Recluse rock star Mac Mackenzie just wants to be left alone on his tropical island paradise so he can forget his past. Emily Bell needs to prove that she won't be defined as someone's wife and is determined to prove her family and her ex wrong by making her wedding planning business a success. She wants his island as the backdrop of a celebrity wedding. He wants her to go away. Can they work a budding romance into the chaos?
I enjoyed this later in life romance.

I really enjoyed this fast paced, slow burn, often very humorous story about an aging rockstar who believes he is not worthy of loving because of the sins of his past and a wedding planner who believes she is just unlovable. Mac and Emily have an interesting first meeting, and future encounters are a bit bumpy, but sparks fly from the minute they lay eyes on each other. I really wanted this couple to find their way to a happily ever after. The tropical setting is beautiful and romantic. All the good feels you need for a very enjoyable weekend/beach read.
This is the story of Mac and Emily. Mac is a grumpy retired Rock Star and Emily is a Wedding Planner. They get thrown together out unexpectedly and while together, their relationship grows. It’s complicated when Emily’s former cheating ex comes into the picture. This is a ‘clean’ romance but that doesn’t take away from this story. I didn’t like Emily too much as I found her personality a bit annoying but I loved Mac and I loved their story.
Am I just too used to hot and heavy romance stories that make my kindle smoke that I was left smiling but not blushing by this story? Let me say - the writing was engaging, the pacing was good, if uneven, but the characters were polarising. Good for me because I loved them but they're not for everyone due to the complexity of their inner drivers which the author very cleverly leverages throughout.

Going Solo by Talia James is a good, and enjoyable steamy sliver fox romance read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry. The story is an enjoyable later in life romance read that is set in tropical paradise.

This was cute story between Mac and Emily. Mac an older male, Emily the younger female, meet under circumstances and fight their attraction. Outside forces try to keep them apart.
Lacked the steam I was hoping for after all of the tension build up, but was a good story overall.

Mac and Emily had a rocky start which was made worse by Mac's past and the reappearing of Emily's ex-fiance. It seemed like all was lost until eventually they both came to realise that they could not do without each other.
I great well written story that can keep you captivated.

Storyline was not original, at first. But things really took a turn when Emily and Mac were working on getting island ready for Anya’s wedding The dog “Bobby” as Emily had renamed Mac’s trusty canine, was a great addition to characters. The way words were written, you could hear the dog’s voice saying them. Book was a delightful read Recommend
I had a great time reading this well developed storyline that flowed easily and smoothly. The characters have a strong connection with plenty of chemistry.

This book was really good at first it was kinda slow but once it gets going it is amazing I really enjoyed reading Mac and Emily were absolutely wonderful the author did so good! I can’t wait to read more!
“This was the price he had to pay for everything he’d done.”
This book started out so good! The entire first half was amazing: great characters, (especially Mac, I just adored him!) incredible chemistry, entertaining plot, steamy build up towards more as Mac and Emily grew closer. But then suddenly it lost its way. The story became too complicated, Mac and Emily both seemed to pull away and begin to act completely different than before, losing that chemistry and connection they had shared, a bunch of new characters were added with their own drama and the romance of the story almost seemed forgotten. The final few chapters were uninspired and flat. Mac’s secret, once fully revealed, was anticlimactic and a bit baffling as it seemed not worthy of his self-punishment and penance. Emily’s actions were confusing and not worthy of the characters, almost as if she was a completely different person. We never even got to find out what was up with the song he was writing. I thought it was a deep, emotional piece for Emily but it was literally never mentioned again. The two of them never seemed to be able to capture the chemistry and emotional connection they had shared before all the confusing drama started. Even the end was a disappointment. Suddenly, out of nowhere, they change their minds and can’t live without each other after which we barely got an I love you, a kiss, and then the end. Quite a let down after such a fantastic and promising beginning.

This is the 1st book in the Sinfonia : Crimzon Steel series by Talia James and this is Emily (wedding planner) and Mac (ex-rockstar, rich, recluse and owns an island) story. Her engagement to Hugo was broken by his lying and cheating. She has been given a job to arrange a wedding for the rich and famous on an island. But mother nature didn't like her island so Emily now has to find an alternative! Enter Mac, he has his own island and maybe, just maybe he will help her out! Now circumstances seem to be against them, her family and ex create dramas, his band members do the same, but his dog is awesome! Will the wedding go ahead? Will they let their chemistry rule and get their HEA? Must read to find out.

Emily is working as a wedding planner and when the venue is gone, she asks Mac, a new interest who has his own island, for help. They set up the wedding on his island but certain guests cause issues for either Emily - her sister - or Mac by his old band mates. Old memories and secrets come to light. The characters are a mish-mash of entertaining personalities and backstories, making the plot twists multiple times. The storyline has vivid locales, surprises, big decisions, Bobby - his dog, drunk arguments and much more that keep the pages turning. Totally enjoyed this book and plan to read it again to see what I missed the first time.

I really wanted to love this book, but I struggled to finish it. I kept pushing myself to finish it so I could finally experience the romance - it literally happens in the last few pages.
The premise sounded fun, and I loved the idea of a later in life romance. My personal issue with the story is the antagonist interactions between Mac and Emily. They snip and snap at each other, say hurtful things and don’t even seem to like each other for most of the book.
The writing and storytelling was great, I just wish this romance had more actual romance in it. Non existent steam.

One of them is because he couldn't keep it in his pants before and now he's pissed off Angelina. The other is he can't seem to get away from Emma but Angelina is to blame for that. But she may regret her jealous act sooner than she thinks. I loved most of the story and especially Bob. And all their interactions. But I wish the epilogue showed more in their future or at least if they got to have any kids. I am debating about getting the next book. Curious to see Cookie's outcome but I'd really like it if we get more Mac and Emma.
This super sweet read is perfect for escaping bruised emotions & you need nothing but the sugary sweetness. It's not full of all the angst but does have some emotions to work through. This is definitely going in my favourites for those days I need something to help me, without all the really negative & angry emotions to work through.
