Sweet Water’s matchmakers soon have Peyton at Bryce’s mansion, working on his books, but she barely sees Bryce – until a ghost from his past forces him to ask for her help.
On the surface they have nothing in common, but could a friendship forged between this unlikely pair grow into something more?

Reasons I enjoyed this book: Romantic Realistic Entertaining Informative Easy-to-read Page-turner Happily Ever After Inspirational Tear-jerker Unpredictable Wonderful characters Original
Wonderful illustration of living the Christian life, with two people and their children helping to build the others up by focusing on what God wants for us and not our discouragements, fears, losses or other’s opinions. All this while struggling with their own issues. Made me think and though this is a Christian book, did not find it to be overbearing. Loving Sweet Water and the “Piece Makers” with their seemingly point on matches. Looking forward to the next in the series.
Two people scarred for life. Peyton wears her scars from her divorce inside and Bryce wears his from his accident inside. Can this two different people find a way to each other hearts through sharing their beliefs in God and find happiness, love and a new family again? A really great story from wonderful Jessie Gussman who never ceases to amaze me with her wisdom and her insightful view of love through faith, love and God.
Didn’t realise this was a Christian romance until I started reading it - picked it up on kindle unlimited to tick off North Dakota on a reading challenge. And it’s fine, except that the main character development is because of becoming a better Christian. I prefer Beverly Jenkins inspirationals to this but it’s not awful-awful.
He's bitter, crotchety, withdrawn, sour on life,.and has his reasons. Once a star baseball player, an accident scarred him physically and a hacking of his social media account and false statements planted there got him cancelled. He refused to apologize for something he had never said nor done. Originally from South Carolina, he has since moved into a huge but dilapidated mansion outside Sweet Water. A reaction his daughter had to both his scars and his falsely sullied reputation meant she was rejected by classmates and ashamed of plus afraid of his scars. He has her raised separately from him to protect her, hiring a nanny and paying his SIL and her husband to raise Kendra. Having either deliberately or not failed to get Payton, 2nd hand bookstore/bakery owner, married to Coleman, the quilters' club/matchmakers group have now decided to marry Peyton off to Bryce, because they know she will see beyond his scars, and that he has changed enough a few nudges will mean that marriage between them is a possibility both can embrace. And the setup is perfect: he has a 3 story library with at least 6000 books that need catalogued, and she is a book lover. It is a paid position and the quilters are willing to watch the store for her a couple hours on Fridays so she can catalogue the books from a little after noon until midnight. He has had someone set up a system with a scanner, making the job much easier. After a rocky start, she amd Bryce gradually get to know each other better. Then his SIL calls. She and her husband are going on a vacation for 2 weeks and he needs to bring his daughter and her nanny to N. Dakota, and they'll be there over Easter. Still afraid Kendra, his daughter, will react badly to his scars, he is surprised to discover Kendra thinks he hates her, thinks her dad likes Owen, Peyton's son, better, and that Bryce and Peyton are living together when they're only staying overnight the night before Easter, and not sharing a room. Peyton's reassurances to the contrary fall on deaf ears. Paisley, the nanny, is tired and has retired early. There is no buffer and Peyton and Owen are heading home, planning to come for Easter dinner, when Owen hatches a plan and talks Kendra into trying it out. Will the kids' plan work? Or has the damage already been done? Can Peyton overcome the scars of her ex-husband's betrayal, and can Bryce overcome the lies and reactions to his scars?
Cowboy Dancing All Night is the matchmaking scheme of the Sweet Water Piece Makers. A group of little older ladies that supposedly make quilts in the church basement. But they had been successful in matching and getting together several couples in Sweet Water. They were trying to match the single people so they would stay in Sweet Water and start a family. Many said it was just talk, but the couple's that actually were put together by their trickery would tell you different. The latest single people in Sweet Water to be put together by their whiley ways were Bryce, the baseball player that suffered an accident and his face was covered in scars and on his arms. He was involved in a hacking of his Facebook where they made it look like he used racial slurs. With the scars and his Facebook issue he lost his place on the baseball team. So he moved back to his family home in Sweet Water and became a hermit. Peyton was the new comer to Sweet Water that they wanted to match up before but, it actually was a trick to get her friend Sadie marched with Coleman, Sadie's brother's best friend.
Charleen, one of the Piece Makers tell Peyton who runs her own bookstore and served casseroles to her patrons told her Bryce has a large library and needs somebody to catalog it for him. She tells Peyton to go to apply without calling and just show up. She did that and he wasn't very happy. They finally worked the anger out between them, she started working there on Friday night's and was having so much fun. Bryce seen Peyton didn't mind his scars and treated him as a regular person. She even shared her views on her religion and Bryce had been so mad because of all that happened to him. Peyton slowly worked her sweet ways on Bryce and changed his ideas of how to live happier. But what will happen when his daughter comes for a visit and her son has his own opinion about what he wants for his Mom?
I received an advanced copy of the book to give my honest opinion. It is a good addition to this series.
Peyton and Bryce are another successful match for the Piece Makers. The ladies took the plea Owen (Peyton’s son) made for match for his mom to heart. Peyton, a bookstore/cafe owner, is intrigued when Charlene, a Piece Maker, mentions that Bryce Shaker has a massive collection of books that he needs catalogued. Rather than give Peyton his contact information, Charlene suggests that she should go out to speak to Bryce in person. Charlene fails to mention that Bryce has become a hermit since a terrible accident left him disfigured and a social media hack job ruined his reputation and career in professional baseball. He is now a bitter, lonely man who guards his heart as well as his privacy.
Peyton’s first meeting with Bryce ends in anger and her determination not to take the job of cataloguing the books in his massive library. It is her son Owen who persuades her to follow the teachings she has tried to convey to him over the years and go to see Bryce again. She can’t go back on the lessons she has tried to teach her son, so she does go to see Bryce again. Peyton apologizes to Bryce for her anger and tells him when she will show up to begin the job. That job leads both Peyton and Bryce on a journey of renewed faith, self discovery and strengthening ties with God, their community and, in Bryce’s case, his daughter. Can they both release the pain of their pasts and move forward to build a future together?
The wonderful characters and storyline in this book are truly inspiring. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
It's so much fun watching the Piece Makers come up with ways to get the couples they plan to match together. In this case the guy and the girl basically never go anywhere so how will they manage to get them together? What they come up with is ingenious- Peyton Sinclair owns a bookstore/bakeshop in Sweet Water and she loves everything about books. Bryce Shaker owns a mansion that has a huge library filled with books that he wants to have cataloged. Putting them together for this project may just have Peyton's son Owen getting the father he has desired.
I enjoyed this story as Peyton struggled with being a single mom and trying to raise up her son to be a man of integrity. Trying to teach him to play baseball- a sport she didn't know anything about didn't go so well when he played his first game. She also didn't really want to marry again after being betrayed by her husband who tried to demoralize her by claiming it was her fault he cheated on her.
Bryce Shaker was in hiding in his family mansion in Sweet Water. He had been a major league baseball player before an accident that scarred him and a social media scandal that he was innocent of doing. He is grumpy and doesn't want anyone's pity so he almost drives Peyton away by his anger. But there is a calm about her that seems to make him feel better and she definitely challenges him to be a better man.
Will these two realize they are really perfect for one another and fulfill a young boy's dream?
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.
I love this series. In this book, Peyton, owner of the town bookstore is the target of the Piece Makers, a group of elderly women who want to find the perfect match for the single residents of Sweet Water North Dakota. Peyton is a 30 year old single mom of twelve year old Owen. Her husband walked out on her when Owen was just 2 and really did a number on her self esteem. The Piece Makers line up the perfect job to supplement Peyton's earnings by asking her to catalog the library of a long time recluse, Bryce, who lives in a mansion about 30 minutes outside of town and has a huge three story library filled with books. It really is Peyton's dream job but when she goes to his home unannounced by design of the Piece Makers, she is met by a grossly scarred disfigured former pro-baseball player who seems to hate people. She still wants to see and catalog his library so she warns him that she will come back on Friday afternoon and if he doesn't want her help, he better lock his door. This is a sweet, clean romance. I love the marriage advice at the start of each chapter contributed by various readers from all over the world.

Peyton escaped the last round of matchmaking, but now the Piece Makers have her in their sights again... As a book-lover, the job of cataloguing Bryce's huge library is a big draw - but his initial rudeness is offputting. Bryce just wants to hide his scars - internal and external - in his own home, and this woman is messing up his neatly ordered life. Worst of all, as he gets to know her a little better, he begins to wonder whether maybe that's a good thing. Neither has any interest in a relationship - but each is making the other start to question that feeling...
Another heart-warming story in the series - a delightful romance between two people who clearly need each other but take a while to realise it. Fortunately, they do come to realise it, and it's great to watch. The idea of dancing has never appealed, let alone the idea of dancing all night, but I'm sure that if anyone could convince me, these two could! As always, well written, touching, with some great humour and an inspiring message. Recommended.
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
There's so much to love about this book by Jessie Gussman. I love the Piece Makers and their determination to bring couples together. I love how Jessie wrote herself, her Good Grief, Idaho ladies, and Jay Dyess into this story. I love the two children who work together in order to get the family they want. I love that Peyton tries to live out her faith but she still struggles with the temptation to behave just as rudely as the people around her. ,She wouldn't have been as relatable if she just naturally did everything with a "good Christian attitude." I love that this book highlights people with scars, both inside and out, and shows the contrast of different ways of dealing with it. You can either look for the lessons God wants you to learn from your hardships and make your life better or you can grow angry and bitter and alienate those who love you most. This is one book where everyone comes out a winner!
I loved this heartwarming love story of Bryce and Peyton. Both are single parents who have troubled pasts. Bryce is a recluse who has a scarred face from an accident and was forced to retire from his baseball career due to social media. He has custody of his 10-year old daughter but he sent her to live with an Aunt in South Carolina so he rarely sees her since he lives in North Dakota. Peyton owns a book store and bake shop in Sweet Water, ND and lives with her 13-year old son after her divorce. The Piece Makers devise a plan for Peyton and Bryce to get together in their matchmaking efforts. What is the plan and does it work? You will have to read the book to find out. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy a clean Christian heartwarming love story. I received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Owen wants a Dad so, he asks The Peace Makers to help him find a match for his mom, Peyton. The Piece Makers have found who they believe is her perfect match, now they just need to find a way to bring them together. Peyton is the owner of the local Book Shop and has no interest in romance after her divorce. Bryce is a former famous baseball player who has locked himself away from the world including from his own daughter after a terrible accident. Peyton loves books and Bryce has a gigantic library that needs to be organized. Have the Piece makers found a way through books to get Peyton and Bruce together? Will Peyton and Bryce realize they have more in common then just books and maybe realize they could be a perfectly matched set?
The Piece Makers, local quilters and matchmakers, want to match Bryce and Peyton. But it takes their two kids to do the job.
Peyton loves God and tries to exemplify His character to others, especially her 12-year-old son. She shows forgiveness, patience, focus on inward qualities, and love for others. Bryce has been hurt both physically and emotionally. Can Peyton and her son help him to heal emotionally and spiritually as well as restore his relationship with his 10-year-old daughter?
Favorite quote: “We forget that our value is in our position as children of God. And our worth is in His love for us.”
Jessie has written another winner. I highly recommend this book.
I received a free copy of this book from the author. My review is voluntary and unbiased.
I loved this tale of beauty and the beast with a country charm twist. You will want to read “Cowboy Rescue me” the book prior to this one 1st. Tho you don’t have too. Jessie introduces some the main characters to you there and it definitely adds to the sweet story of seeing past 1st impressions. Acting with faith and grace Peyton agrees to help catalog a huge Private Library. For someone one of the Ladies from the Quilting group called the Piece Makes knows. Even tho the owner Bryce is a bit brash, from all the pain and hurt he’s been through. Can these two form a friendship that’s life changing? You’ll just have to read it. Or listen to it on “Say With Jay” on YouTube when it comes out soon. I happily read this book to share my honest thoughts.
The Piece Makers are Sweet Water, North Dakota's resident sweet little old lady quilters who make it their business to match local lonely hearts. Peyton is an emotionally scarred single mom and Bryce is a physically and emotionally scarred former professional baseball player. Peyton's son, Owen, who's trying Little League baseball for the first time, has asked the Piece Makers to find a dad for him to practice with. The sweet little old ladies were on their game in this story (pun intended, LOL). Peyton and Bryce didn't know what hit them! This was a fun story with the baseball elements, the small town busybodies, and the 6,000 books Peyton is cataloging for Bryce! Six THOUSAND books! Be still my heart! *sigh*
What a wonderful story! The Piece Makers are at the matchmaking again. This time they are matching Peyton upon request by her young son. She has been talked into organizing a large library at the home of a reclusive Bryce. Bryce left a career in baseball when a horrible accident scarred him. Then, someone hacked into his social media account and caused commotion by making everyone think he used a racial slur. Instead of admitting something he did not do, he denied it and went into hiding to the point he even distanced himself from his young daughter. With Peyton’s background of a cheating husband, she has a trust issue. Will these two be a win or a fail with the Piece Makers?
Enjoyed Peyton and Bryce's story. Bryce was in hiding after a terrible accident scarred his face and his online accounts had been hacked and caused him bad publicity. Peyton was the owner of a local book shop. And because of her love of books, when given the opportunity to help catalog over 600 rare books in Bryce's home, she jumped at the chance. I loved how she tried to help her son learn how to play baseball, even though she had no skills in sports. If you like clean heartfelt books, I highly recommend 'Cowboy Dancing All Night'. I received this book from the publisher. The thoughts and comments are my own.
I loved Peyton and Bryce's story! Peyton is the all-around loved resident of Sweet Water. Bryce is a very angry, hurting ex-baseball player. Think Beauty and the Beast! Honestly, I love that Peyton refused to help Bryce at first because it showed her backbone and that she is human like the rest of us. I also loved the fact that her son reminded her to show love to everyone, especially those who are hurting. All in all a very beautiful and meaningful story with great lessons we all could learn from! I received an ARC of this book from the author. I was under no obligation to review it. That in no way affected my review.
Loved this story—a sweet romance between a poor, hard-working single mom and a former professional baseball star who feels like he lost everything when he was injured and disfigured in a car accident and now he is living alone in his big house. It was reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast complete with the library! I especially enjoyed the Christian message about how to handle adversity when life is not going your way and how to respond to others when they judge you or behave unkindly. Very uplifting! Very challenging! And the story was very entertaining! Highly recommend! I received an advance copy of this book and this voluntary review contains my honest opinions.
Great Christian love story. Some people are scared on the outside and some people are scared on the inside, he had had a horrible accident plus fallen from a lofty position and she had had a really bad marriage ending in a divorce that left her in a bad place. He was hiding in his mansion feeling sorry for himself, hiding from life. She was trying to make a better life for herself and her son, but was insisting she didn't want another relationship with a man. Can the piece makers bring these two lonely souls together?
Jessie's books are edifying. I would say they are also light reads, but she does tackle difficult topics. Bad things happen to the characters or because of their choices, but there is redemption, grace, and forgiveness. She weaves in truths about how we should leave as Christians, which serve as reminders as I listen along.
I've listened to her books on YouTube "Say With Jay." He's a great narrator, even for the women's voices. It's the type of book that you can listen to while doing something else. Any can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend starting the series in order as several connect characters and places.

Beauty and the Beast retold. Such a sweet story. Peyton is a single mom not interested in romance. The Piece Makers tell her of a job cataloging books for a private library. Bryce was injured in an accident and is bitter and angry. He and Peyton clash when she comes about the job. She later realizes that he is hurting and she goes back to apologize. She treats him with respect and humility and doesn't let his grumpiness change her happiness.
Such a sweet book on humility and seeing past people's scars to offer them kindness.
Bryce has been hurt - not only by an accident, but also by someone stealing his social media account and posting things he'd never post. He's hid himself away, but it angry and hurt. Peyton has been hurt by her ex-husband who she loved. She's vowed to never marry again. These two, with their visible and invisible scars, have been so inspirational to me. The way that they came to know each other, and the way they've inspired me have been amazing. I loved reading each of their stories and seeing how they make each other better!
A beautifully written story of faith, hope and love. The delightful "Piece Makers" are at their match making once again! The delightful, "Piece Makers" are at their match making once again! Ms. Gussman writes characters that are flawed but work to be the best examples of Christ that they can be. This book is unique in that each chapter begins with a different readers input on what makes a great marriage. Such wise words to think about. The characters learn to ask God about their life decisions knowing their value is in their position as children of God.
I had an ARC for this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Bryce Shaker is a former major league baseball player who moved home to Sweet Water after he was in an accident that left him scarred and unable to play baseball. Peyton and her son have a used bookstore in town that also serves food. She is contracted to catalogue his vast library of books. The plot includes themes of acceptance, being considerate and looking for the best in situations. A heartwarming story by master story teller, Jessie Gussman.
The Piece Makers strike again - at a young boys request! He really wants his Mother to be happy and thinks she needs a man in her life!!! And so they find someone for her — a man who has a library with THOUSANDS of books that needs to be organized!!! BUT he was in an accident and has scars on his face and is very antisocial!!! TOTALLY LOVED THIS BOOK — two broken families - and they really be healed??? I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own.
