When he came to capture me, he unleashed something far more dangerous.

For years, I have lived as a dragon, slaughtering every dragonslayer foolish enough to hunt me.

Until him.

Rook. Tall, dark, and deadly—he’s every inch the demon who brought me to my knees. He binds me in enchanted chains, forcing me to shift into a woman, but he won’t tell me why.

He doesn’t know my secret: I’m in heat for the first time. My dragon blood burns for a mate, and every touch of his claws against my skin sends liquid fire through my veins. Every time he looks at me with his ember eyes, I need more.

He’s an incubus who feeds on desire. I’m a dragon drowning in unwanted lust for my captor.

I should be plotting his death. Instead, I’m craving his body with every beat of my traitorous heart.

One night of submission could quench these flames consuming me… or bind me to my enemy forever.

I wanted to like this, but it felt far too formulaic, like the author had a checklist of popular tropes that she needed to work in, and it just didn’t quite work.

Also, the word stomach gets used 48 times, with belly being used an additional 16! Every other page the FMC’s stomach drops or clenches or curdles or any other fill in the blank term for nerves. It was honestly comical to guess when it would happen next.

This was not one of the worst books I’ve ever read or anything, but there were serious pacing issues. Somehow everything was going far too quickly whilst also dragging so much I struggled to finish it? Either way, I truly do not care enough for the storyline or characters to seek out the next instalment.

Pyrah is a dragon shifter who has the reputation of killing any dragonslayer who dares to confront her. After effectively discarding the last foolish hunter who attacked her, she ends up being captured by Rook, a demon-like man with an enchanted chain that forces her to shift back to her vulnerable human form. She thinks he's a hunter who is after her bounty but she soon learns that he needs her power to open a specific lock that can only be opened with dragonfire...

The concept was actually very interesting and intriguing at first. Simple but effective. I was fairly engaged in the first half but sadly, the second half just didn't make sense at all. The back and forth, the push and pull, the rushed drama and ending...

I somewhat liked Pyrah, and even if she got captured a lot, she didn't necessarily come off as a hopeless damsel in distress. She was strong-willed and it was refreshing. One thing that I disliked was how much she swore. I normally don't really care or notice but here, it just felt a bit out of place. The language was too 'common' for a fantasy type of story in my opinion. Instead of using words like 'need to be claimed or mated' which was pretty much her main goal in this story, she kept using the word 'f*cking' and I always associate this word to lust without attach. It's probably why I didn't see her connection with Rook who became a bit of her 'toy' even if she did think many times that she would like him to be her mate, and wondered if it would even be possible. Overall, she showed a lot of possessiveness towards him, and was quite assertive with her needs as well.

“This isn’t beauty.” I exhale smoke into the cold. “This is power.”
“When I look at you, I see both.”

As for Rook, I liked his possessiveness and even his arrogance. As a half-incubus, he's had a lot of women in his life but he also exerts control on himself, and doesn't agree to be intimate with just anyone. Consent is very important to him, and makes it very clear to Pyrah. Now what I disliked about him was how he made decisions for Pyrah, to then regret them and crawl back. It happened a few times and it annoyed me. He was a bit too indecisive. I also would've liked to read his perspective.

“Hide too long in the shadows, and you forget how to walk in the light.”-Rook

Like I said above, I found they lacked a bit of chemistry. There was no real depth to their relationship and the push and pull got repetitive.

The last 40% of the book bored me due to the plot shifting to become something else. The introduction of another dragon and why Pyrah followed him didn't make any sense. The reason behind that dragon trying to have her was also unclear and never really was explained. The plot with the Queen and the Gray Prince weren't really explored either. In general, the story didn't feel complete. I'm guessing the next book might go into more details but I probably won't be reading it.

Awesome book!!!!! This was a fabulous dragon shifter romance with the dragon being a female!!! Usually I like this troupe to be sexy dragon alpha male but I was pleasantly surprised that the dragon shifter was a strong and very smart and dangerous female!!! Pyrah is amazing and I loved her from start to finish! She has guarded her treasure and waited for her mate come for a long time and every dragonslayer or knight that was stupid enough to enter her cave has meant with a bad ending. But when a demon attempts to not only take her captive but chains her too its just one more asshole to deal with. Too bad he isn't like the rest! Not only does she go into heat around this demon but she starts having dirty flithly fantasies about him after seeing him jerk off! Rook is a monster hunter and he needs a dragon to save his sister locked in the queens tower and the only way to save her is a dragon! The dragonfire is the only thing that can melt the enchanted lock. But he didn't count on having to deal with such a fierce and beautiful dragoness! The chemistry and banter between Rook and Pyrah is red hot with all kinds of great sexual build up that is slow burning and between the kisses and wet dreams which leads to some fabulous sex, its simply divine! The storyline and storytelling is awesome and the characters and even side characters like the beautiful sorceress Sin who works for the evil queen and Scaldric the golden alpha dragon who wants to force Pyrah to become his mate and submit to him makes for a great read. I can't wait for book 2 Devouring Kiss to continue Pyrah and Rook's story!! If I may quote Pyrah "I’m playing with fire. But I’m a dragon. I like fire. How dangerous could one night with an incubus be?" Until next time Luv's💕💋

This was horrible. The pacing is bad, the dialogue is cringy, the plot is.... what plot? Also, the writing was awful. It's all tell and no show. We are told Pyrah is a dangerous and powerful dragon, not in the least BY HERSELF, but she spends the whole book being taken prisoner, losing fights and being harmed. The book is also just so misogynistic and patriarchal??? Like, why?? You can make up a whole fantasy world and you choose to keep this shit in? Couldn't be me. Pyrah also loves to use slut and whore as negative descriptions of women and I am so over it. And it's so obvious that we are supposed to hail Rook as a feminist icon for knowing the word "consent" and always being so respectful of Pyrah. Also, why is Pyrah swearing so much using modern swear words and even referencing capital G god??? Rook is a half-incubus demon but capital G god exists? Nothing was properly explained in this world, not the dragon mating part of the plot, not why Rook's sister is imprisoned and in need of saving, NOTHING. I was rolling my eyes for most of this book, thank goodness it's over.

I had the honor of being on the ARC team for Karen. This was my first time reading a book written by her. I think her writing was executed very well. The plot was interesting and the smut scenes were smutty. Definitely made me want a demon boyfriend with a tail. The only thing I will say is I wish it was a dual POV. I think that really would of elevated the book another level.

I liked it for sure but it was a bit of a rough one, the story for some reason didn’t catch me until the gold dragon, before that yes spice but meh. It was sweet after that and I do love the idea of female MC being a dragon. Was ok, story cute and spice ok.

This was a cute, fluffy book to me. It didn't take a lot of attention, nor was it really that spicy. I still enjoyed it though!

Pyrah is a dragon shifter who has never been with a man. She meets Rook, who is possessive as hell at first sight. There's a bit of suspense, spice, and fated mates. The storyline was alright- it dragged in a few places and I found myself struggling to read it until the end. While I love paranormal romances, especially with demons- this book just didn't scratch the itch for me.

SAFETY:
Virgin/celibate?: virgin heroine, manwhore hero (but he's not with anyone else in this book!)
OM/OW?: OM, who can't take no for an answer. Rook handles him. ;)
Cheating/sharing?: no
Triggers: attempted sexual harassment from OM
Kinks: praise, breeding, primal

Easy entertainment, nothing too profound, a bit shallow.

I'm not too interested in the sequel, but I'm also not mad a spend a day reading this. Indifference might be the keyword.

Karen Kincy is a new-to-me author and I was blown away with Demonic Prince! Its unique plot completely captivated my attention. The rich world-building and well-defined characters allowed me to sink deep into this novel and experience Rook and Pyrah's adventures along with them.

"I captured you in chains of aellurium, but you captured me in far stronger bonds." - Rook

I loved Rook! He's a brooding half-demon half-incubus monster who tries to keep Pyrah at a distance. Yet he's gentle and protective of her. While Pyrah considers him an enemy for kidnapping her he is an honorable monster. He values Pyrah's desires and is careful with consent.

"..... I wasn't sure if I wanted to kill you or kiss you....." - Pyrah

Pyrah is a ferocious dragon shifter who is suddenly defeated by Rook and thrown into heat. She is infuriated and intrigued by him, with an aching need to be mated.

"Make me dirty. Make me yours." - Pyrah

The angst between Rook and Pyrah is pure delight; one is being driven wild by lust while the other is fighting their desire. Their snarky and humorous banter left me with a constant smirk on my face. And once Rook's leather breeches fall and his cock springs free in all its demonic glory their story becomes pure wicked fun - inclusive of incubus sex dreams (a creative spin I haven't read before). The author also gives us a bit of grovel towards the end which is a bonus worth mentioning.

I thoroughly enjoyed their fiery chemistry and look forward to continuing Rook and Pyrah's story. Highly recommended!!

Told in Pyrah's POV
Erotic monster goodness - virgin h - no sharing
Violence/profanity
Safe-ish due to OM drama
To be continued and HEA

I am voluntarily sharing my honest review after receiving a free advance reader copy of this book due for release on March 13, 2023.

Monster Romance we meet again! This is perfect for lovers of dragon slayers, demons, broody characters, forced proximity, and insane tension.

This story is filled with humorous banter and two MCs that just cant get enough of each other. I absolutely loved Rook and Pyrah! Their interactions were entertaining and kept me hooked! Our MC Pyrah is a dragon shifter caught by Rook and she's ready to give in to her desires although she's in the situation she's in. Yup! this is a captor and captive romance, the tensions in this one are super high. Pyrah isnt our typical damsel in distress, she can feel the pull towards the demon prince and his sexy ways and she loves it.

This quote - "I wasn't sure if I wanted to kill you or kiss you" - is the best description when it comes to Rook and Pyrah... loved it! The interactions between Pyrah and Rook were sexy but dont be fooled there is the character growth factor. Rook has my heart, I loved learning more about who he is and I cant wait for more! Looking forward to the next book.

Huge thanks to the author for sending me a copy. All opinions are my own.

loved the vibes, hated the plot

The lore made absolutely no sense, in the beginning it seems like he's her fated mate but by the end it seems like she chooses? its never explained properly. Her 'heat' seems to just come and go randomly, and the allerium changes rules at least 3 times.

They change their minds about how they feel about 10000 times and it is so tedious, and she forgives him for what he did waaaaay too easy.

This book was a nice read, definitely a good solid enemies to lover, paranormal romance. I love how this book just jumped straight in and cut to the chase, although it did tend to feel a little jumpy at times, but that could have just been from its fast pace. I definitely would have loved to have seen Rooks POV during some parts of the book, I think it really would have added to the story, and brought it up a star. Between being captured, rejected and forced into marriage, things just kept not going Pyrah’s way during this book. She spent half of this book trying to get laid, and well I will say, when she eventually did, SHE DID. (Oh and that tail tho, Jesus). The connection between the two, especially with her in heat, was intense to say the least. Would be intrigued to see where the story leads in the second book.

It wasn't a bad book. Yes, the plot could use some serious work, but this was entirely written for the smut. That much was obvious. If more thought had been put in the plot line it could have been a great book, now everything was just surface level stuff. The smut was hot, but I've read better. Not really invested in the story or the characters so I highly doubt I'll ever read book two. Enjoyable book, but that's all.

DEMONIC PRINCE is the perfect read for fans of monster romance and romantasy. It has a strong Witcher vibe that I adored, especially now with a new (and unfortunately last) season of my beloved Geralt Cavill upon us. The reasons I draw this comparison lie with the characters (Rook is a monster hunter, and is very good to his horse), the fantasy setting the author was able to evoke through her writing, and the adventurous storyline that read like quests within quests with multiple threats to destroy.

However, that’s where the similarities end. Demonic Prince stands on its own in terms of plot and romance, choosing a unique blend of paranormal romance and fantasy. The FMC, Pyrah, is a fierce dragon shifter taken by the incubus monster hunter Rook who has need of her dragonfire. The nature of their forced proximity and the fact that she goes into her first heat make things between the two interesting from the start. Their heated interactions soon have a spicy payoff, but whether this in turn leads to romance is something you must find out by reading the book.

Though the strong spicy element of the book was undoubtedly one of my favorite things about it, I was intrigued by Rook’s history and the challenges it leads to for both him and Pyrah. I was especially curious to learn more about his sister, and wished we had gotten a little more about her and the mission to save her. I felt the resolution on that regard was a little rushed, but perhaps we’ll see more in the upcoming book regardless of the fact that the ending seemed quite conclusive.

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. Opinions are my own.

I’ve mentioned before that one of my favorite shifter words is “heat” and I stand by that. So many interesting happens when that word gets flung about amongst shifters. And in this case, we’re talking dragons. And incubus. A recipe for spicy things.

Demonic Prince was a fast and exciting read, where the characters don’t sit idly for long. The vibe I got while reading was The Witcher, not only because our broody incubus Rook is a monster hunter with a pretty cool horse, but also the quest-like type of the story. Once Rook takes Pyrah from her cave, they encounter several obstacles upon their way and are often faced with threats they must vanquish.

My favorite aspect of the story was the romance. While Pyrah tries to use her charms to be free of Rook, he tries to resist his basic impulses as an incubus and keep his distance at first. Things however get spicy between the two without forsaking some great tension.

Since this is a part of a series, I’m curious to see what happens when an incubus and a dragon shifter stay together, especially given the entity of the threats surrounding the two. I also hope we get to see more about Rook’s sister! I’m curious to learn more about his past at court.

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. Opinions are my own.

I had incredibly high hopes for this. I bought it in paperback. My first indie romantic fantasy smut in paperback!

However I can't help but feel a tiny bit disappointed, and I think it's from my own high expectations.

The story felt kind of rushed and shallow. Feelings, context, and thought processes were glossed over, which sometimes made conversation and charscter sctions difficult to follow. This was frustrating sometimes because I wanted something deeper, more reflective. Not Plated Prisoner levels of naval gazing, but something a bit more beyond what was provided.

The story is about a female dragon shifter who goes into heat when an incubus demon captures her for his own motive, so it's very much based on physical feelings and reactions. And I get that most indie smut is sex first, feelings later, but this pair rejected each other every other page and then had hurt feelings from that basically the whole book. It did make a distinction between mates/love and sex, which was nice, but like I said, it just felt kinda shallow.

By the end I loved the banter and the dynamic between the two leads, whom I never believed for one instance might not end up together despite everything thrown at them. I also liked the interesting world building.

I am most likely going to buy the next book, although I'm not sure if it's going to be about Rook and Pyrah or another character.

“Hide too long in the shadows, and you forget how to walk in the light.”

I can’t remember the last monster romance I read (or if I’ve even read one before?) but I flew through this one! I loooved Pyrah, our dragon shifter treasure hoarding feisty FMC. Pyrah was a strong and independent woman and never gave off damsel in distress vibes. And Rook, our MMC, was the brooding alpha love interest that we love. Pyrah and Rook had fantastic banter and I loooved the tension! Def a quick steamy read and def one I recommend for anyone looking to try monster romance.

Thanks to the author for gifting me a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

It was a good demon romance, the spice and plot were interesting and I liked it.

Rook is a sweetheart, I love him!
Pyrah is a good fmc too, strong yet with a touch of vulnerability that made me love her too.

The ending left me a little disappointed, it felt rushed and since there's no cliffhanger, the ending felt too final.

I will probably read book 2, because I really liked Rook and Pyrah's romance, but when? That I can’t say.

I loved the storyline of this book. The world was well fleshed out and left a lot of room for future books to traverse. The characters were intriguing, original and genuinely fun to read about. The spice was great.

My only complaint is that it lacked the build up of suspense. The romantic aspect felt rushed and there was no real fear for the characters when presented with danger.

Overall it was a fun, quick read!

Honestly I really enjoyed this book. I got it for free on stuff your kindle day so I didn’t expect much but now I kind of want to preorder the second one🤭🤭. This wasn’t the best writing I’ve ever read and the story was fast paced, but it is only 250 pages. It gave me a book thrill I’ve been missing since ACOTAR, but def isn’t the same. I really like the idea of a dragon shifter and it was executed pretty well in my opinion. However, I’ve never read another dragon shifting book. Rook was also 🤭🤭

Update: not even 10 minutes after this review I preordered the second book.

What in the rushed writing was this? I strongly disliked the writing style. Some of the inner dialogue was painfully cheesy and super unrealistic. It reads like the author wrote this book in a one hour sitting.
