Love is greater than hate. Peace is deeper than fear. “This book is not merely a story of war. This is a story of how God can restore what has been broken. God, the Creator, can fashion a new life from broken shards no matter how shattered your life may be. This is my personal journey from brokenness to wholeness; unmistakably marked by grace and mercy. My prayer is that in reading my story you will see that there is an eternal and steadfast hope that you can have. My story is only one that is part of the bigger story that God has been writing since the beginning of time.”
Loved every minute of this book!! Written in such a gripping way it reads like a novel. Hout's story is one filled with sadness through his childhood, but he still holds onto faith that things will get better. Once He sees the light of Jesus he then is able to overcome his struggles and change his life and the world around him. My favorite books to read are biographies believers that are well written, and engaging--this one ranks right up there with the best of them.
Wow. This true-life story was an amazing tale of a young boy's struggle for survival during the Cambodian civil war and genocide, and of God's amazing grace and redemption in his life. I felt that the story was very well written and did a good job of dealing with the heavy, difficult subject matter in a way that did justice to the actual events without making the book graphic or difficult to stomach. I love how Hout could see as he looked back all the ways God had been caring for him though all the terrible times, even when he didn't yet know who God was. This was definitely an inspirational read!
What an incredible story! I really didn't know much about Cambodia's history or the genocide during the 1970s. I loved how the author brought his personal spiritual journey into the book. He was a great story teller!
