Rate this book
Walk in the footsteps of a king!

King David is regarded as one of the Bible’s greatest heroes for one he was a sold-out worshipper. Through all of his successes, failures, and pain, David worshipped God with his whole heart. The first 30 Psalms provide a record of his prayers to God—a window into his prayers as he wrestled through every circumstance across the full spectrum of human emotion.

David’s example is an important model for modern-day Christians, and his words in the Psalms provide powerful language we can use in our own journey.

Psalmist and worship leader Julie Meyer has spent decades helping everyday believers encounter God through Davidic worship. By declaring and singing the Psalms, Julie has discovered that she is able to access that same open Heaven as David—a spiritual dimension where we are confident that God hears us (even when Heaven seems silent), we know that He’s with us (even when He feels distant), and that—whether we feel it or not—we can trust that the giant-slaying God of David is fighting on our behalf!

In 30 Days of Praying the Psalms , Julie takes you on a prayer journey through 30 of David’s songs, equipping you King David saw every type of need answered by declaring God’s faithfulness through the Psalms. Now, discover how you can see the same in your life!

I love the Psalms, so when I ran across this 30-day devotional by Julie Meyer, I bought it almost immediately and started reading. There are some pretty wonderful insights the author shares as she moves us through the first thirty Psalms. And I am grateful she took the time to write this book.

There are several issues with the book, however, that must be addressed, and I sincerely hope that the author or someone close to the author reads this review. First, the book needs serious editing. There are typos and misspellings throughout, and in several places there is so much repetition that one almost feels as if extra words were added to pad the total word count. Sometimes the repetition occurs in the same paragraph.

Another issue is that at the end of most of the day's devotions, there is a to-do list, which is good. But one of the things on the list (most days) is to listen to the soaking music. As far as I can tell, there is only one place in the entire book that tells you where to find the soaking music, and that is in the introduction. And I really had to hunt for it. It seems that for an ebook there could easily have been a hyperlink for each soaking. But when I found the website where the music is to be found, I discovered I would have to subscribe in order to hear it. At that point the book felt like a loss-leader, to pull people to the website and spend money there. That's okay I guess, but when I investigated further, I discovered that there is a waiting list--that I couldn't subscribe even if I wanted to!

Then my third issue is with the final devotion, the one for Psalm 30. The author tells her own testimony of healing, and makes it sound as if all we have to do to be physically healed is cry out to God. I am glad for her that she received a healing, but as someone who very recently lost a spouse due to cancer, I find her approach overly simplistic. She says we should "cry out to God," and we will be healed. We did that, for years. People around the world were crying out to God on her behalf. She was not healed, at least not in the sense the author speaks of.

The fourth issue is that the author has a very limited bibliography, quoting from the same people over and over again throughout the entire book. I felt that the book could be strengthened a great deal by expanding her pool of resources.

So three stars for a book that has some good insights, but could have been much, much better if: (1) it was edited more carefully; (2) the soaking music was actually accessible; (3) the idea of healing was not presented so simplistically; and (4) the bibliography was expanded.

This is a good look at the first 30 Psalms. Ms. Meyer is very thoughtful and diligent in her study of of the Psalms. There was some repetition that was a little annoying but overall a good study.

Wonderful book by Julie Meyer. I’ve enjoyed her worship music for years so I was looking forward to reading this book. It did not disappoint.
Julie took us through the first 30 psalms expounding on the hidden gems within each. I also appreciate the great scripture prayers to go with each psalm as well as looking up and listening to the music of each psalm.
Overall a very meaningful read.

A fresh approach

The author interprets the first thirty Psalms. Through David's trials and triumphs we can learn to pray as he did: with complete faith and confident expectation that God is close, He listens, and He acts on our behalf.

I enjoyed reading 30 Days of Praying through the Psalms. What could be better than praying the scriptures? Some readings were perfect. I created my own prayers for others.

This book was a surprise. Growing up I had a life-changing experience with God while reading the Bible. I felt his presence very close. Julie Meyer has reminded me of the importance of meditating on the Bible, and the book of Psalms gives us many keys to help us in every facet of our lives. It is an excellent resource everyone should have in their library. She even quotes famous people like Charles Spurgeon and others.

Thanks, Julie for a great devotional.

Wonderful devotional

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The way the author reads into the first 30 Psalms, bringing out "keys" in each one, is a wonderful way to use the scripture in a practical manner each day. The addition of a daily prayer is a bonus to sum up the reading for the day. I would recommend this book for anyone wanting to delve deeper into the Bible and its' teachings.

Prayers that will help you in your daily walk with God.

This prayer journal that lasts for thirty days that leads you through the Psalms can help you with your daily walk with God. This author gives you insights on how God will always be there for us if we just pour out our prayers to him. I liked all the Psalms but Psalm 29 really spoke to me. I can see myself using these daily prayers even after 30 days. Totally recommend this book.

I found this book very inspiring. Loved diving into the first 30 Psalms.

I think I would’ve given it five stars if the “keys” had been highlighted on each page they were mentioned on and if they were summarized at the end of each chapter (and at the end of the book?) As it was, it was hard to review the “keys.”

A thirty day devotional based on the first thirty psalms. Each mediation has an essay that focuses on David and how to study and use the psalms in our daily life. There is also a daily prayer that is a reflection of the psalm's message. A useful tool for incorporating the psalms in daily prayer and meditation.

This is a really good book for daily devotions. The author dives deeply into the first 30 Psalms with clarity and personal experiences. She also ends each Psalm with a prayer. I hope she writes a second book for Psalms 31-60.

Psalms to guide your life

I read this book as a part of my morning devotion. The format, interpretation and enthusiasm of this text is so comforting and uplifting. I am not a singer so I found each Psalm set to music on You Tube. Highly recommend!

Great study

Julie pulls out the main points of each Psalm t
That we can apply to our lives. A wonderful work to use as you read through the Psalms.
Once you finish, I would think one could keep going with the Psalms on their own.
I hope Julie does more of these.
