I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed it.
This is a DNF for me. The Prologe reads like a (boring) history book. There were so many thing that were told, not shown.

The writing style is taxing. Same sentence beginnings (His... His... His... Next paragraph: He... He... He...), same sentence structure, same sentence length. There's no alternation, which makes it impossible to read for me.

You WILL fall in love with the the book. You WILL fall in love with the storyline!! You WILL fall in love with the characters!!! And if you don' t already have the follow up sequel to the series, you WILL own it, & Love it once you have read it!!!!
Once again Jerri/Colleen has written a spell binding story that will grab your attention from the first line, of the first book, of the of the first series, to the last line, of the last book, of the final series. Myself, I hope she will continue the story with a third series.

The Oath, book one in Jerri Hines's series The Chronicles of the Ordained, is an epic fantasy and stirring saga clad with paranormal characters (hypnotists, illusionists, healers, and sight seers), and supernatural figures (hawkmen, elves, witches, and magical beings). There are several layers to the story as Hines takes readers through a number of distinguishable realms or kingdoms, each with unique traits and inhabitants. And each with a distinguishable hierarchy of family rulers that come with them family drama and political intrigue, amplifying the saga.

The single recurring theme coursing through the story is the ongoing battle between beings who mean to do good and save lives verses beings intent on destroying lives and pressing others into a bondage-like existence. The trope of good vs. evil is the fundamental thread linking the various characters and keeps the reader engrossed in the tale.

Like Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series, Hines's book thrusts the reader into a fantastical world where protectors are superhuman beings called Enchouns and flying horses called fleogans is a common form of transportation. Like the Game of Thrones series, various kingdoms need to unite to fight the evil beings but their mistrust of each other turn them against one another. Like the Harry Potter series, evil beings threaten the prosperity and peace of those who wish to live in harmony. The ongoing struggle between these opposing forces draw out a nail-biting, heart-pounding saga.

It's a saga rife with magic and warriors, as the story begins 700 years prior with the Reckoning, when Asmeodai, the prince of Hades, similarly to the figure of Asmodeus found in Judeo lore, takes control of the kingdom of Nennius, a realm within the Jornado Empire. After Asmeodai's take over, the Empire is fractured into Nennius, Witheleghe, and Siochanta, which is where the reader begins the voyage.

The Knights of the Ordained banish Asmeodai, burying him beneath the Wahi Tapu Temple but his faithful follower and worshiper, the Nenniusan witch Cyaika draws him out 700 years after his entrapment with the magic of the Draio Dagger. The kings and princes of the two other realms, Witheleghe and Siochanta must imprison Asmeodai beneath the temple again and kill his followers, the Nenniusan witches.

The story is a real page turner, keeping the reader enthralled and contemplating how the Knights of the Ordained will be able to push back the powerful demons. Not only must the Knights battle the destructive beings but they also have their own family drama to deal with, which personalizes the story for readers. Love matches outside of marriages and children born out of wedlock is a recurring theme as well, as the facade to uphold ideals, even at the expense of deceiving loved ones, allows forces like Asmeodai into the homes of loving families.

The story will make readers think about their choices, and recognize how lies tear loving relationships apart, destroy harmony within communities, and divide nations. This fantastical world which Hines creates has many similarities to the world around the reader, and the reader will grasp that quickly.

Lots of world and character building going on and I really had to concentrate to keep track of who was who and where they were to keep track of what is happening. I also struggled with the names of people and places like Whitelegs and surely if people had wings they would be like bats not pigeon wings with feathers, just my take on it and why try to trick someone into bed and mark them for life if you say you love them and are supposed to be an honourable leader.

Jumps around

There are a few grammatical errors. While the story is good, it tends to jump around. When the chapter ends, the new chapter may start off with information missing on how the characters got to a point or act that should have been explained. It leaves one to make their own scenario. Not something the author should let happen. However, I do believe this author will improve over time.

Jumbled mess

The book jumps around. Its impossible to follow. The author doesn't tell a story, he tell snippets that are hard to follow then jumps to another snippet. Don't waste your time.
