Rate this book
In a duel of words, the son and daughter of opposing politicians go head-to-head until their hearts collide...

At one time, Rachel Enger thought she loved Warren Kendrick, except he left without responding to a single letter. Now he's returned home to help his father win the mayoral election opposite her father and that means war.

Their battle spills from the Op-Ed section of the local newspaper to engulf the town. Sparks fly, eggs thrown, and mayhem ensues. Not to mention Mrs. Taylor's rampaging goose is on the loose. Desperate for a measure of peace, the community leaders give the pair an unexpected work together until the election.

Can Rachel and Warren unify the town or will their divide continue to break it apart?

Mother goose just needed a gander!

All of our worries and fears get down sharing them and trusting they will be handled! A friend a confidante to be heard. To hear yourself in understanding yourself and rethinking your position. In give my yourself to others for the greatest good. That's what Warren and Miss Enger prospered on. Their lives were full because they worked make a full life others. Christ gave His all on the cross so we too must give our all.

Of Pens and Ploughshares by Ann Elizabeth Fryer is part of her Hearts Unlocked historical romance series.

What a fun, sweet, touching story! I laughed in various moments and was challenged in others. And the quirky parts were fantastic, especially those involving a certain goose and … eggs.

The characters are on opposite side of their respective father’s run for mayor. When the pair take the op-eds, things get messy—literally. Add to it their broken romance and this second chance might be too much for the town to handle.

This author has one of my favorite storytelling voices and Of Pens and Ploughshares lives up to that expectation. I highly recommend reading this historical romance.

"What if we went into this thing as a service to God? Serve people in the name of Jesus. How much more will we accomplish?”

I'm always looking for new Christian indie historical authors to read. This was my first book by Fryer, and the story was engaging with imperfect characters who showed growth, clear Christian message, and unexpected twists and turns.
I enjoyed being surprised as well as seeing the characters repent of their errors and making amends. This book is very clean and appropriate for teens on up.
The author has a unique style and I would love to see a professional editor help the style enhance the story, because the story is good. As it was, sentence makeup (commonly saw sentences without a subject) and a plethora of outdated or incorrect grammar rules detracted more than it should have.
With such a one on her team, this author will be one to watch.
